a lot of people get upset about sansa not telling jon, but you're right - she didn't know she was going to use them. she also didn't know if she could trust littlefinger to actually come through and she also knew jon would refuse to work with him, so that's why she didn't tell him
It was also a big gamble she couldn't even know for sure if he would come plus to be fair to her I won't spoil in the comments but she talks about it the next episode and owns up to it in a very grown up way
@yeah91919 I just disagree also George literally wrote the same charge in Blackwater Tywin cavlery comes in at the last minute and saves the day and he literally said he wanted something similar to LOTR that's straight from the author
People have every right to be upset with Sansa. She was the one who made Jon go fight Ramsay, and when they couldn't get enough people she carried on at him... What did she want him to do? Run away? After she made them go there? It was 100% bad writing, and you can tell the SHOW writers came up with that garbage scene.
listen D&D wanted a rohirrim charge moment but the only way they could do it was by sansa witholding information so that it would be a big surprise. the difference is that tywin wasnt in kings landing witholding information from the defenders, so the cavalry charge at blackwater bay made perfect sense and wasnt bad writing.
Now that I've re-watched this episode I finally get what Sansa was trying (very poorly) to say. I don't think she could bring herself to outright say the truth, so she just gymnastic flipped around it. Jon asked her how do we get Rickon back. She said "We don't." She also said don't do what Ramsey expects you to do. Essentially: Rickon is already dead. For all intents and purposes. We're not getting him back. Period. But Ramsey wants you to TRY to get him back. So DON'T try. Accept that he's dead no matter what we do, and use his death in a way that can HELP us, because he's 100% dead anyway. Ramsey wants you to try to save Rickon. Don't try to save him (because you can't.) But let Ramsey THINK you're going to try, and surprise him when you _don't._ She should've just came right out and said it. (Not that it would've done any good probably. Because Jon wouldn't have believed her about Rickon having less than 0% chance. And Jon would've ignored her direct advice the same way he ignored her indirect advice. Thus ending up in the exact same scenario.)
I agree Jon wouldn't get it because he doesn't get what Ramsey does. The no honor combined with his sadism. Jon doesn't comprehend that kind of enemy. Those tactics. He doesn't get Ramseys motivations or Littlefingers. He doesn't think moves ahead or about political or power advantage. He doesn't get off on the game & can't predict the moves of people who do. Who do things for no decernable reason or lie easily. He thinks he does because he's been through a lot and made peace with and between people but it's not really the same. He thinks because he lived undercover he understands lying. He doesn't understand it the way Sansa does.

The thing I like most about this is how in the scene we are. Like there are directing and writing choices I dislike as with any filmed battle, but near the beginning with John surviving and arrow volley, having his back protected when he delivers a final blow to somebody that got plowed by a horse. It shows basically his destiny to survive. I also liked John's choreography for the fight a LOT. I wish they made more battle scenes because like you would not have ran out of material so fast.

Seeing Ramsay Bolton finally get what was coming to him was soooo satisfying. But I have to say that all I could think watching that dog when it first started licking his face and all - if you'll notice in scenes like this involving dogs, they never show the dogs' tails! For the reason that they are usually wagging - the dogs are well trained to do exactly what they are doing, and they know they're gonna get praise and treats for it, and they're usually very, very happy - just well trained to appear vicious and scary.
I think the reason Sansa didn't tell Jon about Little Finger because she had no way of knowing if he would actually come through. If Little Finger had already taken his army home or refused to come and they made a plan for him to be there, things could have been worse. I think Jon was going to fight the next day, Little Finger or no Little Finger.
