Under General go to the bottom to Launch Options and try entering SteamDeck=0 %command%
That should get it to go to the launcher instead of directly into the game.
Yea I had to do this yesterday to make the game more stable, after the update I was getting dips into the 70's but enabling the launcher back through steam and messing with settings I was able to get a solid 90 fps
@@optimalbonkerzdips into the 70s.. wow. How horrifying that must have been
@@BahhBahhBrownSheepexactly…
@@optimalbonkerz Did you resolve that 60fps to 30fps issue you mentioned by getting into the launcher?
Yes I was going to comment this
Valve released a Proton Hotfix that makes the verified version run at 60 fps instead of it showing 90fps on the OLED model now and the frame time is much better!
Cant wait to try it on my deck.
That's pretty damn good. I might pick up a steam deck oled when I get my next check now that I got a job and my next check is going to be bigger than my first check. :D
You won’t get the launcher because they removed it to get steam verified. When the game launches it checks that it’s running on a Deck and automatically adjusts settings, hence the resolution and frame-rate issues.
Which you can bypass by setting SteamDeck=0 %command% in the launch parameters.
You can also add DXVK_CONFIG="dxgi.syncInterval=1" to the launch options to disable vsync
@@mechanicalmonk2020 while you can add this, you shouldnt need to if verified. They really messed things up.
@@mechanicalmonk2020 Apparently doesn't work anymore
@@0tispunkm3y3r it still works I had it running yesterday after I updated on my legion GO
@@0tispunkm3y3r still works as had it up and running today 👍
Great video 😁
As others have said, use SteamDeck=0 to get the launcher in order to adjust the resolution. Since F4 is an older game, the resolution in the steam properties isn't passed to the game; it comes from the settings. As a tip, I have found that using 1280x720 and NIS scaling method (instead of FSR) works really well when docked because it has an inherent sharpening to it; so on my 65'inch 4k TV it looks just as good as running the game at 1920, but with better FPS.
Lego Batman 2 isn’t verified either but it works just fine for me
Yup, Resident Evil 3 remake wasn't either when I played it last, but it worked just fine.
Yes many games that haven't been officially verified do work it's just not graranteed
Okay and?
@@BahhBahhBrownSheep And what? You offended?
@@jon8223 my exact thoughts bro
you got a enough sibilance on your voice track here for me to comment on it. Normally it's fine but maybe you changed your mic's input gain or something? Maybe worth looking into. Love your work.
I use the lcd deck, and I was wondering if the preset settings has motion blur off. I can handle fps games, but motion blur can make me queasy.
Wow thats a huge performance jump. I played this locked to 40hz before and it was pretty solid.
The verified label doesn't mean much, when you use the Deck Virtual Keyboard (Steam + X hotkey i believe) the game crashes after you put it away, making it nearly impossible to progress on a new game, unless if you connect an external keyboard just to name your character.
That's steamdeck for you.
@@2ndAmendmenttime No, that's BETHESDA for you. Though the steam verified thing is poorly done
@@ZachAR3 and steam deck for you too. Linux.
@@Kaylas1821 cope windows fanboy. It's a Bethesda issue, just like the other thousands of bugs they have on windows.
Didt have this issue before the update
I haven't seen the show, but seeing the interest in these games experiencing a renaissance gives me a bit of a warm fuzzy feeling since I'm a long time enjoyer of these games. It's like going back in time. At least in this one aspect. Personally all this Fallout talk is making me want to play the original Fallout. ☢
Fallout sucks, Bethesda is a terrible company, yet people support this bs. The only feeling you should get is disappointment knowing people are throwing wads of cash away for it.
@@BahhBahhBrownSheepwhy are all your comments so negative?
@@Mike-wc3jo because ETA Prime is a terrible sellout and Fallout is made by a terrible company. This is no different than when Cyberpunk was revived by the anime being good. Neither of these games deserved it.
@@BahhBahhBrownSheep you sound emotional
Notice how the frame rate timing is jumping up and down extremely fast …. It’s because the game is jumping to half frame time from the oled. The old way was to change ini to preset interval 0 and it would run at true. Otherwise it half rates frame timing. Thanks Bethesda for breaking it again lol
Sounds like double buffered Vsync
To lock your settings after editing thr ini file onthe My Documents folder, right click the ini file, properties, and tick the Read Only. This locks your settings. However, if you change some settings on the game, it will not save since the game cannot save it on the ini file because, the ini file is in Read Only mode. Hope this helps.
I am 50h in an unmoded playthrough with a steam deck oled before update and i am genuinely worried about updating after the feedback. Now its playing great and I get 4+ hours of battery when playing it which its awesome cos I'm traveling on holiday, its it true it only last a couple hours after update?
I have updated and first impression the battery does go down much quicker and I can hear the fan right away while before it wouldn't even quick the fan after hours. I did the work around to access the settings and it's set on ultra, so put everything back into high/medium and game is back the way I like it. Ultra settings in the deck ain't ever worth it.
Yeah the god rays kill the framerate. Even on a 4070ti I drop to 40fps with god rays on ultra and need medium to keep above 60. Impressive that the deck does kind of the same thing though! But medium just fixes everything on deck and it’s very enjoyable with a bit of fan noise here and there
could you test the far harbor dlc? the fog used to be a performance killer for the last-gen consoles.
If you used it in docked mode with keyboard and mouse does it work?
The moment you used mods the performance tanks!
Yeah that’s generally how that works
@@PeakKissShot wrong device for modding. my legion go runs fallout 4 with 50 mods through nexus at a locked 60fps
@@braukwood925 I’m sure that’s very enjoyable for half an hour
@@PeakKissShot why would it only be enjoyable for half an hour? temps never get very high and the battery last hours when gaming. if i need to play for more than a couple hours i use my battery bank or an outlet
Really hope they release a steam deck 2 with enhanced performance, mods are a real game changer
Iv been playing this on the rog ally with the new fluid motion fames on the latest amd update it runs great
Even on the external monitor it looks like the same issue to me. It says 120 but you've got that same weird frame time graph and I don't believe for a second the deck is powerful enough to run 120fps quite steady like that. So surely, this is 50-60FPS at 800p. Which is still good. I think as well from what I've seen of others who've been able to re-enable the graphics settings menu, the defaults are simply all set to "Ultra". Lazy.
I wonder if this update helps the legion go version
Change the launch paraments to load the settings menu for the steamdeck to this:
SteamDeck=0 %command%
How can i get this amazing interface? Loving it!
Will an un-modded saved game be playable with the update? I’m over 100 hours into a vanilla Fallout 4 run on my OG Steamdeck, and would hate to lose it. (I figure my VERY modded XBox run will be toast.)
pretty sure saves dont care about updates
The game is capped at 60 due to physics engine being tied to frame rate. At least before the update, I don’t know if they fixed that…
I dont understand how this game is getting 120fps at 800p externally but mine struggles with 60fps. Is it all just because I have a first edition deck and not the OLED?
It’s a bug with the frame rate counter so it shows double the frame rate
@@Joro1738 That makes a bit more sense now.
AMD's Fluid Motion Frames just doubles the counter. 🤣
Nice
This resolution forcing on external display annoys me as it also happens in the other games (option doesn't work). Alsways had this problem 😢
Hey, so I can’t find the target fps settings? I’m also on Steam deck. Help because I want to have stable 60 frames
So I’ve just started Fallout 4 on my OLED how can I change my settings to medium? I don’t need the ultra settings I just can’t listen to this fan and have it running hot like this.
I have no audio dialogue on the steamdeck . i feel like ive tried everything . Its driving me crazy
You got the limited OLED also !
ive got no audio on my deck.. just some sound effect and broken speach..
Is anyone else having issues with crashing on the older steam deck? I haven't played fallout 4 on the deck in a while but I never had it crash like it is now.
If you enable the launcher back on the steam deck your game will crash every single time you close the on screen keyboard, but you can get a stable 90 fps on fallout if you enable the launcher and change the settings
I think Valve need to have pretty strict guidelines when game developers create specific "Steam Deck" profiles. In most cases they are doing the machine a disservice rather than a service. I'm thinking about how this game seem to work as well as "The Ascent" which is automatically locked to 30fps, and you can't do anything about it. It would be much better if the game devs included a specific preset for the steam deck. Which is automatically applied as long as there's no settings file yet. And also that there's a specific energy setting as well that is applied together with the preset. HOWEVER, the user should be able to modify these values themselves... This should be a requirement when devs do Steam Deck profiles.
SteamDeck=0 %command% is the command for enabling the setting menu popup. Just place it in the line under properties
I just dont understand why valve doesnt offer egpu support or offer a proprietary egpu (if they want to keep full control over it and the performance).
What UI mod is this?
An easy fix with a text file and command code but really shouldn't be necessary, poor verification set up from Valve!
TFW one of your favorite gaming youtubers can't tell that the game is running at 45fps when the counter says 90 due to a known bug with the OLED SD and F4.
I noticed that the 90hz is actually 60hz n set to 60fps yea as you said looks like 30fps
Is anybody else having an issue where the game crashes when they try to pause it or is that just me
OK, here's how it is on OLED:
Fallout 4 will run at HALF of the framerate you set it to on OLED. Set it to 30fps, and true framerate will be 15 frames. Set it to 60, and true framerate will be 30fps. Set it to 90fps and true framerate will be 45fps. NO MATTER the external display, as far as I know.
There is a way to make Fallout 4 work as intended on OLED, you can find the fix on both Reddit and UA-cam. I applied it just a few hours ago, and I can assure you, you will feel the difference immediately.
Does it run like that on the original LCD version ?
I thought changing the ini file to 0 thing was broken, I’ve literally tried this multiple times and it makes no difference on the oled for me?
@@kallumlansley4855 there is a new fix
@@kallumlansley4855 Yes, it doesn't work anymore. You need a different method that involves creating a new file with literally one line of text. Almost only one word. And then you have to include a command line in the launcher of the game. Then it works.
@@ElementalTJ The game works correctly on LCD Steam Deck,
The game has a 60 FPS cap, so when it says 120, that's also only running at 60. That's why gamescope shows such a weird frametime graph
try using the launch option SteamDeck=0 %command%
this works
Turing on weapon debris still crash my game
Weapon debris has crashed every system I have ever had. Can anyone run the game with this option on? Why wouldn't it have been noticed and fixed at some point?
what steam deck theme is this and how do I get it?!?!
Pip boy
where did you get the motivation to make a video every day
I'm guessing $$$
Half rate shading kills the Pip Boy readability
I was getting 90 fps untill the update now to jumps back n forth 40 to 50 fps
Of corse Fallout 4 works on the Steam Deck Oled if it works even on the PS4 what I have on it. Steam Deck Oled is the King of the Handheld Gaming PCs! 👑
I have zero confidence that Bethesda will fix any of the issues with resolution and refresh rate. These issues are persistent across Bethesda’s game engine and they never seem to be fixed. Pretty on par for Bethesda.
Use proton 9.1 proton and ir runs at 90hz
There's a big problem with Fallout 4 on Steam deck Oled. It shows 90 fps but actually runs at only 45 fps.
Would look better on Legion go.
As long as it's "Vanilla Fallout 4" steamdeck will handle it, but you can't simply mod your Fallout 4 especially graphic mods (photorealistic graphic + 8K texture) that makes even RTX 3000 / 4000 series "sweating"
steamdeck=0 %command%
I get like 55 on average all high settings 800p
Your mods don't break as long as they don't use the F4SE
happy hunting!
Surprised to see it didn’t crash 😂😂 I can only run the game about 10 min even with optimizing in every single way, I’m on a 4080 btw with a 12th gen I9 went into INI files etc, I tried getting a refund and nothing, I can run new Vegas and fallout 3 like nothing and 76 like nothing
90 cut in half is 45, so it’s running at 45 fps. Which is fine I guess, but it’s pretty ridiculous that they verified this when it clearly does not work properly.
Hey bro you know it's not a real 90FPS? apparently it just creates a clone of each frame to handle the 90hz screen. So its actually 45fps.
Full-screen ultra wide-screen drops the resolution to about 480, regardless of what you set it to. It's not unplayable, but looks awful and is clearly just bad implementation. I can run New Vegas without an issue at full screen, but their latest game? Nope.
Works pretty well on Rog Ally
New players are screwed. If you have an old save, you’re good. Why? Because you cannot open and close the virtual keyboard. It crashes the game. Same as Skyrim. So you cannot name your character or change the names of crafted items. Broken. How is this verified? Can’t play past first 5 mins.
The best game on the best console.
Its not recommended to run Fallout 4 above 60hz, the game is tied to framerate and will start to break physics.
Anyone tried using mods with this on steamdeck?
Tried the update last night. Noticed the game still didn't have a default FOV slider. Laughed to myself played it for 10 minutes. Then quit out.

Don't do it if you don't want to break your mods.
Never trust an update from Bethesda. 🤣I turn off all auto-updates for their games just in case.
Beth will fix this in a few years
Ehh haven t played fallout 3
😁😁😁👍👍👍
You expect a Bethesda game to work after an update? They'd be out of business with that kind of expectation. The fans fix bugs far better and faster than they do.
(LCD model) By default graphical settings post this update, it's been running decent to honestly great. I went ahead and set my Deck settings to 45 fps and no serious stuttering yet. I was honestly expecting way worse, and here I am already another 10 hours in deck. It's like 2015 all over again.
Just wait for modders to fix it, as usual with Bethesda Games
And people say the SD is king lol
60 fps in this game feels like 30, 90 like 50 - lol
This is now an OPPOSITE steam deck verified game, it RUNS WORSE at half the framerates despite the game saying it's running 60 or 90hz. I was running 60fps just fine with this game on my LCD model.
"Next gen" update is really something isn't it? Broke every mod in existence that makes the games less buggy and enjoyable.
Bethesda went the jank way with the game as always.
Half the videos him talking about that files... We get a ETA... You can't edit the file...
they borked the game with this update > fallout london is dead now
fallout 4 runs on a intel4xxx igpu... get gud
Basically its now broke.
next gen upadate is disappointment
They made it worse :(
"Verified" yet Frame Pacing is Garbage, look at that graph! Typical Bethesda
God that stuttering is so bad. I would have traded in my Ally and bought one of these if it had VRR. Such a missed opportunity...
The frame time graph is glitched for this game. It’s very smooth actually playing.
Updates will go so far they need release steam deck two what will valve do new game comes out useless update will not work except for upgrade hardware
The patch is fucking useless and fixed nothing, even well known bugs.
