Upgrading the brakes in a car won't make its breaking distance any shorter, most brakes are strong enough to lock the wheels up at speed, that's why cars have ABS. The weak link in the chain is the tire. Wider tires will transmit more energy. Bigger brakes only means they will maintain the available braking power for longer before fading.
Was going to say the same thing... Bigger rotors don't help in a single high speed avoidance stop .. if anything they just add rotating mass and hurt it. Tires are ultimately the limiting factor
Larger diameter rotors exert more leverage to the hub. Simple physics. Is it an appreciable difference? Maybe not, but it most definitely applies a greater force
Hey guys - over the last few months, the video has been getting choppier and choppier and drops more and more frames from the recording. Not really an issue since it's a podcast rather than a driving video where that actually matters. But the times I happen to be looking @ the video feed it ends up being really annoying on what is otherwise a really high production value. If you could take a look into it that would be great. I would imagine the recording device is overloaded and can't encode fast enough.
Fun fact: the local Porsche Club to Knoxville holds their autocrosses in the parking lot of Dollywood Splash Country (water park equivalent to Dollywood). I first learned car control there in my dad's 1986 Carrera.
Branch this pod out a bit, I'd love to hear Matt and Zack also touch on broader cultural subjects. Put their own spin on Rogan, however, with the primary emphasis still on automotive.
FWIW Zack, if that Safari WRX guy wants more info, I wrote the "Unofficial How to Lift your Impreza" threads back in the day on all the forums. I can give him some good links with info.
FOR ZACK. Is this the ep where Matt is talking about moving on from the Mach E? Just wanted to pipe in with the regular New Prius being the only option atm (they probably still sell the old very underwhelming Prime) and the NEW Prime is set to be out for next year and the waiting lists are probably already quite full. Matt could probably get bumped up there tho, if he could find a solution until then. Extending the Ford's lease? Getting into something used and interesting for a year that won't depreciate? Lexus NX450h+ is the Lexus version of the Rav4 Prime and while boring, is probably one of the best overall vehicles on offer out there that gets NO attention. SavageGeese were pretty blown away by how hard the Rav4 Prime could launch and said it was probably one of the fastest vehicles in a straight line that Toyota has ever made.
43:37 the bigger limit to breaking is the tires not the rotors, bigger rotors does help it no over heat but in an emergency situation typically you hear the tires not being able to get traction
Happy to see Matt and Zack agree on the Mazda 3 being a good “an car” as I just bought one and am really happy with it. It’s a lot of regular car for the money.
I think they look fantastic, Mazda managed to make a small commuter car beautiful and understated where the Golfs and Hyundai were getting uglier and uglier.
One of my favorites from the old studio was actually a Hooniverse episode... not that I enjoyed hearing a drive-by shooting, but wow did it get very real, very fast.
I think you’re also referring to the Foothills Parkway. Perfectly and newly paved road, epic views, longer sweeping curves. Tail of the dragon is typically max 50mph. Met a guy in Ford Gt who said he hit 175+ on foothill
The 4.7 V8 Vantage also has a better gearbox and a little bit better fit and finish overall. Astons also do not like to sit. You want one that has been taken care of and driven on a somewhat regular basis.
I can vouch for paint being a major supply chain bottleneck. Whatever is in automotive paint is super scarce right now. Ordered some touch up paint and clear coat almost 3 weeks ago and won’t ship out until the end of the week because of supply issues. This is a 1oz bottle btw.
Was just in Townsend last year for a huge Ford Bronco event. Also, when I was a kid, my family went to a Porsche Club event there, and it rained overnight. Since the car (air-cooled) was parked on a slope, it flooded something and wouldn't start. Luckily was an easy fix.
@@travis3810 yeah it's a nice and relaxed town. I can't handle pigeon forge or Gatlinburg. Ive been down several times for Fiat on the dragon. I wasn't aware there was a Bronco event otherwise I would have went to that too 😂

They fixed the floor obviously but still have a viewing port that shows the bottom of the sink hole. Are you saying that now none of the damaged cars are still there?
I increased the bite of my brakes with more aggressive endless brake pads as the coefficient of friction is higher. While pads and rotors can increase the braking power just due to the size of contact, bigger rotors only really increase the amount of heat the brakes can withstand
I grew up not far from the whole Pigeon Forge area; Dollywood was a very regular and fond memory as a kid, I still enjoy going during Christmas time; it hasn’t lost it’s magic when all lit up and beautiful. I was surprised to hear Matt & Zack not trashing Pigeon Forge, I guess it’s different enough to not be completely tacky. The excellent driving is all I really miss now while my wife and I travel the country for work; nowhere besides Colorado has compared.
What exactly is wrong with Hershey PA? Hershey is one of the top small towns in the country. One challenge is traffic in the summer from people visiting Hersheypark, founded by Milton Hershey for his workers. He gave all of his Hershey food company stock to the Milton Hershey school who provide free education to 2000+ disadvantaged students. He also made a huge donation to establish the Hershey Medical Center which is one of the best hospitals in the country. If he is a bad example, I would like to see what you think is a good example of a corporate leader. I think you confused Hershey with Centralia PA with the coal mine fire 53 miles away.
Your channel is great. Keep up the great work. This is not directed at this video but I really enjoy when you ask your guests what cars they own. I am always interested in what people drive. I wish you would ask every single person on the podcast what they drive personally. And about cars they used to own.

Louisville native here. Matt's sort of right about everything being on one block, and the town kinda being bleh outside of that - but there's like 5 or 6 blocks like that. Frankfort avenue, bardstown road, nulu, st. Matthews near chenowith lane, whiskey row. Outside of those, it's fairly residential and commercial. We also have some decent parks and hiking for the area, if you're into that, but it might not be impressive to the Californians
