What an achievement, I am so pleased it started up for you. I would have also been crapping myself if I had the balls to do what you have just done. I’m sure you will get it all set up and running smoothly over the next few days. All the very best mate
Best inter active video I was nervous during the startup of the engine wish I had your engineering skills. Best video by far. Well done keep them coming.
@@SavingSalvage well done Deano m'boi glad to hear it start looking forward to seeing the next video. I've a K-series Rover engine all new parts to be rebuilt basic in comparison but I needed motivation which you've helped me get 👍 Blessings from Glasgow ✝️🏴🇬🇧🙏
I was a factory trained R8 tech with Audi in California when the R8 was introduced. Only certain techs could drive them and fewer were trained to work on them. I remember wondering how small shops would be able to survive in the years to come because these cars needed such special white glove treatment - bollox. Get in there and figure it out. You did a massive job and did it well - hats off to ya.
I think this is a fantastic step forward. I was initially scared of all that smoke, then you explained 'burning off the old oil' and I felt happy for you. This is my most anticipated build. LOVE this one (GT3 is a very close 2nd).
Great video. Have just watched in amazement how you got that complex engine back togther. Understand your anxiety about starting it but it ran so big congratulations for getting it going👍
Great series and content Dean, this is what the old Wheeler Dealers with Ed should have been, showing the steps needed to build a car vs just bolting bits on. 100% my favourite channel for car rebuilds, others have tried but dont come close!
Fair play Dean ,must be so nerve wracking waiting for it to fire into life after such an extensive rebuild, Matt had a similar thing with his murcielago running funky at first, no doubt you’ll get it sorted soon enough 👍🏻
Nice! Well done Dean, so glad it started and you managed to clean out all that crud! Be interested to see what you do to get it running sweeter. Keep going bud, awesome vid!
Well done Dean I remember rebuilding my 1987 toyota corolla 1.3l engine and I thought that was complicated. This was some job you did great achievement 👏 👍
Hi Dean, wow ....as has been said many times previously this is one helluva achievement and given your luck to see and clean out that debris in the inlet header .....your hard work deserved a fair slice of good Will 🙏!! Looking forward to the road test and hearing that car roar... Be safe , be kind 🙏🦉 G
Mate you had me crying with laughter, delaying the inevitable!! The amount of times I've done that with your heart in your throat!! Great stuff mate keep it going !!!
I’ve followed this rebuild from the get go and extremely impressed and enjoyable. Full credit to you for your hard work and commitment towards this project 🤙🏼
Nice one, so glad it started. I have been in the same position many times, pacing around too nervous to start something that had received major work, it normally works out though. If I could give one piece if advice, don't be to quick to start things. Finish the install! Too many times I have seen shit go wrong because of wanting to hear it running. Great work though!
My heart was beating fast (I’m sure not as fast as yours!) but very nervous for you on initial start up! Such a major project - I’m sure it will turn out as you have imagined
Nice one. I have rebuilt engines in the past (many years ago) and always had issues. One Toyota engine was so tight after new bearings and machined crank it all had to come apart again and be rebuilt. My Alfa Boxer engine was so easy to work on once you got it out the car but a nightmare to do any thing on while in the car. A 1.3 engine with 4 carburetors. It was so quick off the line a mates MK1 Golf GTI struggled to keep up with it.
blown away by the amount of piston that came out of that intake, i an super happy for you that she coming back to life for you, sorry for the late reply i hope she do not have any other big issues for you
When you turned that mate my heart was really going❤. Fantastic achievement, I don’t know how you remember where all the looms go! Thank god you spotted the shrapnel in the inlet manifold 👍🇬🇧😎
It started! Be happy! Of course it will sound lumpy etc until everything is fitted etc, you have performed miracles with it! Congratulations and well done!
My goodness Dean…what an epic job but it is your patience that astounds me…how do you carry on with such a complex engine….it simply amazes me. One thing though…I will never buy an R8 for any reason…that much stuff behind me liable to go wrong means it would be a constant misery…..when you finish, send it to auction and never look back!! You are an HERO…and brave beyond words!!😱😱😱😱😱😃😃😃😃
I think you should be happy 😁 It's a huge step for you and the R8 It would not be perfect at the beginning but I think it's not so many hours work left 🙂
Looks like there is still a problem in the right cilinderbank. At youre first hard start there where little puffs of smoke af turning over a few times a lot of smoke . I think something is up with rings, gasket or valve guides. Would first check you're sparkplugs before starting again. Good luck on the build.
Dean I really enjoy your projects,Your fearless, and you get through some work for a single pin. Also it’s great that you show your mistakes, many wouldn’t all the best for the R8
That sounded lovely and sweet on start up.. great result 😄- with the right hand bank having the oil burn off after the original engine blow, is there away to have the manifold cleaned to get the inevitable debris out of the Cat given what was in the inlet manifold there is likely to be some big bits in the exhaust too .. ??
I've been watching your videos for a while now, and I have to say you are so talented! Your dedication towards cars is so inspirational! Keep up the amazing work 👏 😊
Just absolutely love your content Dean ........... what a mission to rebuild. Might be an idea to run with 2 cameras maybe one static throughout the video where you could keep cutting in and out of the video, by the way great editing just wish you posted more content👍
Yeah, I was wondering why it had a lumpy idle and then you casually mentioned ALL the 'bits and pieces' you needed to add to it. SO, you should be very happy with the first start up. It was an excellent first result after rebuilding the motor! Well done! What an achievement!
Bro! New subscriber here, absolutely FANTASTIC JOB putting her back together! I put an Audi A8L V8 Awd sedan back together after fitting a used engine after the timing belt broke and killed the original 😂 I had a very similar crank start….. die, crank back up……run…. Die…. Start AGAIN……. Run a little longer….. die AGAIN!…… lol just like you’re dealing with, once you get everything connected and verify oil flow/oil pressure, connect the radiator/cooling system 😂 I did the same thing ! 😂Open that throttle and give her some revvs and blow all that crap out and I bet she will smooth right out! It sounds fantastic on my side! No knocking, no ticking, just nice quiet Open manifolds! 😂😂🎉🎉 Can’t wait to see more!
What an achievement, I am so pleased it started up for you. I would have also been crapping myself if I had the balls to do what you have just done. I’m sure you will get it all set up and running smoothly over the next few days. All the very best mate
Thanks mate! I hope so 😀

Hello Dean,
Where are you based, because I would be grateful if I had you as a trusted mechanic
I wish you all the best brother..

What an achievement Dean. You are brilliant to be able to rebuild that engine alone. And capturing and editing it all too. Hats off.
An engine like that is close to being brand new, probably needs a running in service again! What an amazing rebuild!
Can I just say thank you for giving us such indepth analyses of engine breakdown and rebuild.
I and everyone here enjoy your mate 🎉

Absolutely FANTASTIC work Dean. I'm gripped for you mate. This is the big one!!!
You need to take that motor to all the car shows you can...!!!
I think this is a fantastic step forward. I was initially scared of all that smoke, then you explained 'burning off the old oil' and I felt happy for you. This is my most anticipated build. LOVE this one (GT3 is a very close 2nd).
Congratulations! Really enjoyed seeing the journey on this. So many small problems to overcome and work around to progress bit by bit. Inspiring.
Great video. Have just watched in amazement how you got that complex engine back togther. Understand your anxiety about starting it but it ran so big congratulations for getting it going👍

Fantastic achievement young man. Plus so honest about the odd mistake. There are some good channels on UA-cam, and yours is up there with them 👍👍
