How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a UA-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
That spreader is really on life support right now, her time is near.

Hi Ryan. I appreciate all of your videos. They give this old 76 year old, an incentive, to want to get back out, and do something, besides just using my tractor, in the winter time, to clear my driveway of snow. The children are all grown and gone, I don't have any horses and don't need the hay, but I am thinking of getting another Clydesdale, to pull my little Surrey around. So I really appreciate your videos, that give me a boost, watching you, & your family. By the way, quite some time ago, I recall you helping Hannah, maybe in the early stages of your courtship, work her farm. Do you and she, still work her farm?
A spreader really needs to be a high priority purchase this winter!

My 7600 did the same thing, ended up cracking the transmission housing as a result because I put it in park without realizing. The dealer did an update kit on the shift linkage when they did the housing and it’s been perfect since

awsome video ryan thats alot of manure you were hauling lol i got to say i really like how you edit your videos birds eye view with the drones and have the backround music on there and how you edit your clips i was thinking of doing something simuler with mine and my brothers channel what editor do you use thumbs up and shared
Curious if you've considered starting nutrient spreading in the highest elevation of a given plot? Thanks for the video as always.
I think you are right about testing manure nutrient content. I take and look at analysis of a lot of both liquid and solid manure samples and it is rare to see one significantly different from average, and even if it is the next sample taken from the same location is usually much more in line with the book value/avg we use. If you are not obligated by law I think it's a waste of time unless you are personally interested in it.

Hi Ryan, why do you chisel plough? Doesn't it damage your soil structure and reduce fertility. Do you have a harrow that can carve up the crop residue, and then a drill that can just place the seed with minimal disturbance. I'm not a farmer but many farmers in the UK are making more money with mintill. Love your channel.

THe endgate has seen better days.Very convienient to have powershift on the 7600.Remember that that the 6200,6300,6400,7700,7800 was introduced 30 years ago in 1992.About how many do you spread?

my 7600 power shift lever is worse than yours, i actually have move the power shift to 1 or 2 in reverse to find nuetral
Seems like you guys struggle with some timeliness on things…..what do you attribute that too? You’ve got 12 row corn head….no way you should’ve had to run 36 hrs to beat snow

We were doing tillage, not harvesting. We’ve picked up more acres so it’s offset the time savings with the combine. Need more storage and another truck to save more time during harvest
@@brittblanton8342 my point being….12 row should’ve speeded harvest right from the start = equals more nice days to do tillage and bales before crap weather hits
