Yes, this song/video was for AIDS, right DURING the height of the epidemic, when there was no hope, and when homophonia was around😮 and when AIDS victims (most of whom were Gay men) didn't have any family or any friends left when they were dying. These artists at the time were seen as bold and courageous

I saw Gladys Knight in Oakland performing. I was in a bad accident two days before. With a walker braced up. One of the promoters saw me next i was taken inside before the doors opened with my family. I was told to pick anywhere you want. FRONT ROW legs up in pain but Gladys is worth it.

    Family/professional ties:
Stevie Wonder - cousin to the Jackson family through matriarch Katherine; labelmate with Gladys at age 12.
Dionne Warwick is Whitney Houston's cousin and Cissy's niece; muse and voice for Burt Bacharach.
Gladys Knight's ex-husband, Barry Hankerson, introduced their goddaughter Aaliyah to R Kelly.

We've been friends since grade school, and it is now 49 years later, and we are still friends!! And in all those years, we have never, and I do mean NEVER, have had an argument or a fight about anything!! That is how close we are, and how much we have always respected each other to have different opinions from each other. Still friends to this day!! During the 60s, 70s, 80s there was amazing camaraderie and genuine admiration among solo artists - and bands as well - for each other. They knew and appreciated each other's talent and uniqueness. And while each artist continued to seek/maintain his/her own fame, they willingly collaborated with other artists from many different genres for worthy causes. QUITE IMPRESSIVE. This beautiful song, written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Sager, and brilliantly performed by this group of artists was released to benefit AIDS prevention/research. I think we need and could benefit with more of this type of collaboration in today's divisive world. MUSIC - more than any other art form - is a unifier.

This recording, billed as being by Dionne Warwick & Friends, was released as a charity single for AIDS research and prevention. 1. She is Whitney Houston's auntie.
    2. She sold over 100 million records, with 56 charting singles and 2 number one hits.
    3. She won six Grammy awards.
    4. Despite all that, she declared bankruptcy in 2013.
    5. She was the favoured singer of composer Burt Bacharach. She recorded over 100 of his songs, and at least 39 of those charted.
    6. She is still performing today at age 83.

The live version with Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Dionne and Stevie is my favorite. Gives me chills everytime I hear it.

There was a time when Dionne Warwick ruled the airwaves. Her covers of the Bacharach/David songs were everywhere.

So thankful to my momma for making these artists and music a part of my growing up. I know I'm a better person because of it.

Stevie has been blowing the world away with his harmonica and singing skills since he was a child going by "Little Stevie Wonder." I'm sure you can find videos of him as a child. Musical Legend........... All legends from my day and I still cry every time I hear this song.

The moment you hear Gregory Abbott sing "shake you down"
" You read my mind, girl I wanna shake you down...." You'll know it!!
Also not sure if you have reacted to Dionne Warwick's
" I know I'll never Love this Way Again" but no one runs away with that one... She's at her Best in that one.

I'm SURE I'm the oldest person here so let me fill in the blanks. This song was written to raise money for AIDS research when the disease was a death sentence. Elton, along with Elizabeth Taylor, were warriors in raising money for the cause. Including Elton guaranteed huge success. I do not know if they actually were friends, but certainly did an amazing job for the cause.
