Awesome review. I’m looking for a edc tool for my purse I need it for my kids and everyday. I think I’m going to go with the leatherman as I find myself mostly needing scissors and those scissors are a lot better on the leatherman.

Regardless that the Leatherman has 2 flat head screwdrivers, I would always give it to the bit driver style screwdriver in my opinion as it is replaceable and is more universal. Also the arm of the driver is better. In addition the leatherman has 3 spaces occupied for screwdrivers.

Here in the UK both are illegal because the knife locks which is also the case in some US states and many countries as far as I understand it, so why the Gerber’s blade locks but the driver doesn’t I don’t understand. Here the T4’s blade is hidden amongst the other tools (why I didn’t choose the T2) but if Gerber swapped the lock to the driver, it’d be a much harder choice for me.
As it’s the T4’s blade shape is perfect, slight curve for cutting with a tip and length which isn’t scary, it fits in every pocket I’ve got, everything in it is what i’ve found I need day-to-day especially the file which is really easy to get out and is perfect as a general pokey stick and it’s all one handed opening. If you’ve got to carry a load of bits or make a decision on which bit to pick up before you go out, you may as well take the bits out and a proper handle that doesn’t fold over.

First let me say I'm no lawyer so check with a lawyer but...I couldn't find a state where these are illegal to OWN. I did find a couple states where carrying them in a threatening manner is illegal but in general they are considered pocketknives and considered a tool in most states. It's worth noting though that many states have laws against carrying even pocketknives into places like schools and courthouses etc.
I checked the web for some UK laws and they are fairly confusing but I did find a UK website that clears some of this up www.knivesandtools.com/en/ct/uk-knife-laws.htm now they basically say carrying them to from work is fine and again completely legal to own. That website does say that they do not sell any knives that aren't legal for you to OWN in the UK and they sell both of the multi-tools reviewed in my video.
Again I'm no expert on the laws but it does appear that the courts in many places differentiate on whether you are using a "pocketknife" as a tool or using it to threaten or harm someone.
Very interesting stuff to research and thank you for bringing it up :)

@@MidnightRoadGarage in the UK, if you’ve got anything over 3” one or it locks, you *could*, emphasis on “could” get 5-7 years inside. I’m a middle aged white man, so I’m not likely to get stopped randomly ;) but it’s a freebie for the police if you’re stopped and they want to up their statistics. The way the law is applied is similar here in that if you’re not wafting it under someone’s nose, you’re fine…unless they decide you’re not.
On the way to karate once in my pyjamas I once got stopped carrying a 7” staff sticking out of my 2” bag because it was a “concealed weapon”. I asked how he seen it from 200 yards away if it was concealed? He asked where I was going, I pointed to the karate pyjamas and asked “where do you think?” If I’d have had it then, it’d have been used against me.
Technically a plumber with a Wave in his tool belt getting out of a plumber’s van could get arrested for a locking blade. They’re unlikely to but I know a few tradesmen who’ve had run ins with police including one joiner who had his axe on his belt but they ignored that obvious work’s tool for the “thing we might be able to get him for”.
In short, the UK’s laws are poorly drawn up, poorly and inconsistently applied and open for personal interpretation of the individual police officer, desk sergeant or judge.
From some UA-cam channels like the knife centre, it seems the law is equally bad in the states as there are town, county, state and federal laws which are all open to interpretation whipped up by the media who are owned by the Government’s friends and have used “knife crime” as an excuse to blame everyone but themselves for the sorry state of the country….rant over :p
Personally I’ve never understood how a 4” knife blade is illegal, but a 4” saw blade is fine…and that’ll make a much worse mess of someone than a knife blade.
I wish more multi-tools had a “no sharp edge” option like that one Gerber, because everyone, of every age could carry something like that without issue. Leatherman did that one for kids, can’t remember the name of it, but it had a removable blade which one could leave at home which seemed like a good idea but for what I understand, people hurt themselves putting the knife blade in and out incorrectly so they pulled it. If bladeless is too much for them, something non-locking and small which wouldn’t terrify people :)

Oh and the “illegal to own” part…they banned “zombie knives” which were basically any knives with bright green paracord handles, so the shops took off the paracord, added black and sold the 2 separately.
      Hence, poorly that through :p

@@kettchuk918 all of that is insane and I absolutely believe it. In the states it pays to know your local laws. I live in VA where you can get a concealed carry with minimal effort if you don't have any felonies. The nicest thing about having one is that you no longer need to worry about being busted for mistakenly having a "concealed" weapon.
