Hey Dan, I just wanted to express how much we all appreciate your efforts. You have been working really hard to put out content lately on almost a daily basis, and it's really great!! Many of us find ourselves sitting at home, so watching your videos makes this whole social distancing thing easier to take. Cheers. ;)

Split unions on the F1 actuator pipes are a known thing with these cars. Usually once they're fixed they stay fixed which suggests to me that the torque setting originally used at the factory may have been wrong, or the materials were over-stressed for this application.

Great info !! I always thought the initial pump noise was from the fuel pump, and not the F1 transmission pump....thanks for clarifying this...

Just changed my F-1 fluid and flushed the system replaced w/ Royal Purple Max EZ PS fluid and it does shift faster and smoother now !
I asked my Ferrari tech about what you said and he says he disconects the return hose at the reservoir and by using the factory Leonardo ( or other as you did ) ,computer program , it is possible to get like 90% of the fluid changed w/ out removing the actuator , opening the bleeders . so , I said "It sounds similar to an oil change where we do not routinely drain the oil cooler(s) etc ." He agreed ,
said it is about 1.5 hrs labor to change fluid .he says you will waste a liter +or so of fluid cycling thru the system .Ferrari tech says the filter in the reservoir @ the bottom is NOT replaceable you just get a new reservoir if bad / dirty !
Spoke w/ a petroleum engineer he said we should use Royal Purple Max EZ PS fluid ( similar to CHF11s ) in lieu of ATF . ( Both are hydraulic fluids and not that far different ! )
The petroleum engineer said he recommended it due to the synterlec proprietary additives, ( A friction reducer ) .and it has a good balance between type 4 and 5 hydraulic fluid ( one type shrinks seals and the other swells them !)
so will not harm seals .or the hydraulic accumulator!
BTW our Indie Ferrari tech says you need to CK the fluid level after the fluid has drained back out of the hydraulic accumulator and that takes all night ! ( and do it before you turn on the pump ! so leave the back hatch open so you do not need to open the door to trip the motor compartment latch ! AND recall, the door opening cycles the pump too so DON'T open the door ! ) it should be about 10mm below the top of the bottom of the opening ( base of the filler neck )
DO NOT overfill or you will make a horrible mess Tech says !
Royal Purple ! Good Ol' USA American Texas oil Co. technology! LOL 🙂🙂
Warning sounds like an ad ! LOL
" Royal Purple's Max EZ is created to improve the life and performance of all power steering units. This innovative power steering fluid = ( equivalent to ATF , BTW ! ) is made as a perfect combination of selected synthetic base oils plus Royal Purple's proprietary Synerlec additive technology. Royal Purple's Max EZ significantly increases both pump life and fluid life. Superior wear and corrosion protection is guaranteed as well. Max EZ is non-foaming and features high temperature service capability."

Dan, you bled the clutch circuit only. To do this properly you need to bleed the selector actuator as well. That’s where most of the fluid sits (unfortunately harder to do as you need to remove the actuator from the transaxle to open the bleeders). Also, you should be changing the filter on the output of the reservoir. Finally that ATF isn’t the best choice of fluid. I recommend using CHF11S.

( yes i found out ) it sounds familiar to some fluid used in the Saab cars I own . and the tech says the filter in the reservoir @ the bottom is NOT replaceable you just get a new reservoir if bad / dirty ? if whats indicated is ATF ? we like mobile 1 and our fav is royal purple brand .
in fact spoke w/ a petroleum engineer @ royal Purple, IN Texas today and he said we should use Royal Purple Max EZ PS fluid ( similar to CHF11s ) in lieu of ATF . ( Both are hydraulic fluids and not that far different ! ) special transmission oils were not made until 1948 !

Just did my smg motor in my 07 M6, such a similar system but I’m looking to see the mechanical differences, before I did my motor it would come on every time I opened the door, 1st time for about 7 secs and once about every 3 mins or so after fairly quickly, now it doesn’t come on even after hrs of sitting, the new fluid helped as well. Interesting F1 doesn’t require a super specific fluid as smg needs Ch11s. Also cool how you have a reservoir accessible, mine is near the tranny 😕 great video!

I did the same on our Ferrari 612 Scaglietti F1 I use for business and for guests on our Italian holiday adventures not long ago and it was fun. Would have been nice to see you run through all the gears and measure the clutch like you did some time ago with your friend Mr. Josh Hill and his laptop running the Texa software. Good luck on the sale and I am sure you will make the buyer a happy guy or girl! Leonardo

Hey Dan, I have some Shell Donax TA fluid left over from when I changed the F1 fluid in my 360. Do you have any idea if I can use it in my 430 to top off the reservoir? My F1 fluid is bottomed out after I run a prime cycle just by turning the key on and a few weeks ago it would not shift into gear till I turned the car off and back on. Its just low.
