Everyone thinks that working on a Ferrari is a thing from another world, but it's still pure mechanics, more than modern cars. I will subscribe your channel just because you are the first person who does it in a supercar with love and passion for mechanics I do not know anyone who changes the spark plugs or the engine oil of a Ferrari without being in the official store. Dan, the Ferrari spark plugs looked easy to install but here is a method that works good to prevent cross threading when the plug is in a difficult location or at a difficult angle. Get a length of heater hose or gas hose with an I.D, slightly smaller than the O.D. of the spark plug porcelain. Slide the hose on the plug and use the hose to insert the plug and get the threads started. I've done this for so long that now I always use this method even if the installation is super easy. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this! It was useful for reference on many bits for changing plugs on my maserati 4200 gransport (very similar engine in many respects) - especially torque specs, grease/anti seize specs. The two things I would recommend to everyone doing it: 1) use a magnetic spark plug socket. Much better feel and no issues with rubber coming off. Well worth it to avoid cross threading. 2) get a tiny 1/4 torque wrench (type designed for bicycles). Fits almost as many places as a 1/4 wrench and allows you to torque to spec

Cool video, I learned something new. I got here because I was curious about what plugs Ferrari uses. Your right about the spark plugs. People who don't know about cars don't understand. Many factors wear out plugs. Especially, high performance use. I own a Ford Crown Victoria Police. Even though this car is retired, I still drive fast at full throttle sometimes, I'm an aggressive and spirited driver. It's not a Ferrari, but I love my police car. Also, you're using great plugs. The NGK laser iridium plugs are great plugs. And like you said, high rpms and high compression, which is high performance use will wear out plugs sooner. These NGK plugs are OEM plugs on the Mitsubishi Evolution X. I use to own an Evo X but film school, and work forced me to sell it, I couldn't afford it anymore. So now I own an affordable, and durable retired Ford Crown Victoria Police car. Ones I'm a successful filmmaker I'll own another Evo X. And just like you I'm a fan of Ferrari. I like your F430. @@normalguysupercar Yes, correct sir. Especially, with a car like yours. I would be scared to get a check engine light or misfire in a Ferrari. Thanks!
Dielectric grease ?! 🤦♂️ That will increase the earth electrode electrical resistance value to the car’s overall ground reference point ! You should apply a very thin coat of 2 stroke lube oil or a 5w30 thin layer of oil (ident to engine oil, for instance) on the thread.
Good tip on the oil.
Normal Guy Supercar 😂
By the way, regarding an earlier video of yours in which you received a citation for having your REAR wheels on the stop line, the cop was right.
Doesn't mean he isn't an asshole.
@@normalguysupercarindeed
You do not want to put anything on the front part of the electrode of a spark plug, if anything in the back where the coil boot contact the electrode it's fine just a little bit but not in the front, just on the threads a little of anti-size very little and not all the way to the top threads, besides water will never be able to acumulate on the front part of the electrode the temperatures in the combustion chamber where that part of the electrode lives are crazy hot so any water or moisture just evaporate so is unnecessary.
Agreed
The s2000 revs to 9k and has the same compression ratio but the spark plugs need to be changed every 100k miles
How much would a Ferrari dealership charge for this? Also what are the OEM spark plugs in the F430?
I have no idea on the cost, but I'm guessing over $1k. The OEM are the same ones.
@@normalguysupercar holy shit $1000 hahaha
My maserati dealership is a lot more reasonable. I doubt they'd charge me more than $500 for spark plugs
Props for Eddie Grant in the intro!
Haha I love when people note the intro song.
i saw your car at the Car and coffee
Cool! Luckily it didn't melt in the rain.
This reminds me it's time to do plugs and wires on my C5.
I think I'm going to get the cat's cut off and get it tuned😊
I endorse this plan.
Hey Dan I've just subscribed today to help you get the 458, love the channel.👍🇺🇸
Fantastic! Thank you!
GREAT VIDEO THANK YOU SO MUCH!! question 1 my friend every when in khlm ihave to change the oil for the transmission in my FERRARI F430 SPIDER?,WHAT TYPE OF BEST OIL I MUST USE FOR BEST PERFOMANCE, ENGINE OIL AND TRANSMISSION OIL?tHANK YOU
Pennzoil euro platinum or shell
Give your neighbor a ride in the ferrari:-) the rusted bolts use apple cider vineagar then zinc plate its real ez to do
Interesting idea, I may give that a try.
@@normalguysupercar another idea for you is to get the fiberglass titanium wrap exhaust part ceramic coated inside and outside not the spray paint the professional stuff shop done PS l love to help others spend their money Lol
Running those on my GLI Mark 6 Jetta lol
They are good plugs
I thought they were called feeler guages? Or are they just called different stuff
I think you're correct.
Normal Guy Supercar Ok gotcha. I work on a lot of planes and we use feeler gauges so I wasn’t sure if they were different in aviation as opposed to automotive.
My Q60 revs up to 8000 rpm and I'm running stock plugs right now
My ae86 revs to 8200 rpms and compression is 12:1
How many miles on it
Now it's almost at 50k
It really bothers me that weld isn't quite centered, but I'm a welder
Well, experts are going to notice things that require an expert eye. :)
Ferrari need to scare children at Halloween time.
Hmmm, yes. I like this.
I cannot wait till i am about 48 years old to buy a Ferrari. I'll have to save 1500 per month for 10 years to put a nice down payment or pay cash for one.
7:38,Spark plugs are barely tight?
I can't believe that specified torque is 10 Newton Meters (7.4 Foot -Pounds).
Specified torque for my Toyota Corolla is 24 Newton Meters (18 Foot -Pounds).
Yup. I was shocked it was so low.
@@normalguysupercarto be fair, with light anti seize/grease torque specs need to be reduced about 30% as lubricated torque is higher - so it's really about the equivalent of 15Nm of dry torque spec. Which is pretty common for aluminium engines
i got the SMA reference ;)
😁
How do you feel about valve cover gasket changes on this...??? LOL LOL
I'm gonna have to do them at some point... Mine is leaking a little.
I have a 328i BMW that I'm dreading. $400 for the valve cover assembly and it looks as crowded like your Ferrari. BUT, I have power tools and I drink beer too. LOL
How much would that cost at the Dealer to do that ? $1,000 ?
Probably somewhere around there. Certainly at least $500.
Yeah. The dealer charges full price for the spark plugs plus their labor rate.
Thanks because this makes working on Ferrari's not intimidating.
You're welcome. The 430 has been very easy to work on so far.
You ready for cars and coffee if it isn't raining?
Yup!
You need magnetic tools. Makes like easier
I have some.
Hope u shared the buns?
Hmm, no. I snarfed them down.
Nothing says 458 like needing to replace spark plugs
Ha! I'm sure the 458 needs them just as frequently.
Honda s2000 revs to 9k. I think it calls for spark plugs at 100k. Sounds like ferrari setting stupid standards because its a ‘supercar’
When the engine costs more than a Honda s2k, why take the risk on not changing them?
Normal Guy Supercar
Facts.
I ckd 490 hp
From the factory
Just buy a corvette and there not as expensive.
And nowhere near as fun.
Yeah true but corvettes are mass produced sh!t Boxes and Ferrari's are a piece of art.
They are or abbreviated they're. Ahh, I was raised by a teacher and simple crap like this bothers me.
@@studog05 you would be a barrel of fun at dinner wouldn't you
