Great boat and I have to say, that's the way to do a "boat-for-sale" video. It's long but very thorough, with slow pans, close ups but more importantly, good wide angle shots throughout the interior. Thank you! I've been Producing film and video for over 25 years, it's so nice when you see someone nail it. Well done sir!
Ok, it doesn't hurt that I love the boat. But I'm here to comment about the exquisite production of this video. Well done. Mesmerizing moments at sea, a really nice sense of natural observation of boat operations, and musical score done the way it should be: as a backdrop that layers with the atmosphere of the shots rather than something that thinks it has something to prove. You've earned my subscription.
One fantastic boat plus one of the best boat tours ever! Very well done! I think Captain Q would approve himself! This is one of my dream boats along with a Kraken 50! Love it!
The attention to detail is immaculate. IMHO this would be for layout and liveaboard and Amel would be for full time cruising (only an up because of sheltered cockpit and electric winches
Really nice set up! Me Likey! I like the in cabin rod holders and the location of the fresh food hammocks. I really like the picture hanging that shows all of the thru hulls. quick reference without going to the book. Just a little short in the headroom category for me. Really nicely laid out and looks to be a great vessel. I went to your link and read everything. Again, Nice yacht! you really put together a great video. wish everyone would do the same. keep up the good work!
Where is Morgan nowadays, as haven't see her in the videos for some time? I have been enjoying the technical details and walkthroughs of your latest videos, but I do miss the older type content. What's your future plans and has Covid been difficult?
Covid has drastically effected out plans. We were going to return to Canada for a year to work and save up more money, but her job with the city was squashed due to covid. I was going to join Paper Boat Project with Stefan (formerly of Miss Lonestar) and sail from Dominican Republic to Jamaica...that obviously fell apart. And we were also going to travel to Japan this past July...that died. So, we've stayed put in Mexico, where it has been safest and easiest to be. Who knows what the future has to bring, but know that we'll survive and keep on doing our thing!!
BOOM! You nailed it again Josh. The way the camera caresses the lines and form of this boat is almost sexual. (mmm maybe that says more about me he he ) I feel your passion is every sailing presentations. Get on with your bad self~ now to your question: Is the IP 420 the Best Bluewater Sailboat under $300K? The book "WORLDS BEST SAILBOATS" [ vol 2], devotes 12 full color pages to the IPs. With the 420 being featured. So who the "heck" am I to argue? Answer: yes, OH HELL YES! I have to give a salute to the owner/Captain of this IP 420. His OCD has not been in vain. Not only his electronics suite but his labeling of storage areas and the nice diagram of the thru hull location deserve at least an honorable mention in the Sailing Museum of OCD Sailors. I do have a couple of questions: Is there a H2O maker onboard? I did not see one and they are not standard equipment from IP. Same question on a bow thruster, is there one? Getting in and out of docks with a full keel, displacement sailboat is not the easiest of maneuvers, a bow thruster does help a heck of a lot. I have heard others say the IPs sail like a bath tub. To them I say you are getting a Morgan and IP confused. The IPs are graceful and elegant in their sailing performance, not to mention stable with the feeling of "Go Anywhere" the IPs impart on their crew. I noted on the bow area a 2020 FL registration. I also noticed what looked like a Federal Hull Registration number in the interior. Is this IP Federally registered? Last question, is a sailboat purchased in Mexico subject to US state tax or any Mexico tax? Thank you again for your most honest prestation. Be happy, be safe.
Sorry I didn’t get back to your comment sooner! It’s a good thorough comment. I can’t remember now if this boat had a watermaker...I believe it did, was otherwise fully equipped for extended cruising/liveaboard. It did have the bow thruster. Yeah, these boats are no slouches, and achieve great hull speeds and daily average miles on passages. Very stable, very comfortable...if I had the budget, a 465 or 485 would be at the top of my list for my personal cruising boat. For now, my custom steel BR has to stay at the top of that list! Lol. There’s really nothing left to be desired on one of those boats for equipment, accommodations, stowage, etc. The only thing i would want to change is mainsail to slab reefing or in-boom furling as opposed to in-mast. That’s my only gripe.
Oh, and no-boats purchased offshore of US are not subject to any state tax until such time as boat is returned to the US and then specific state “mud”, “luxury”, “property” taxes would apply. As long as they are in MX waters, all that applies is a temp import permit for about $60 good for 10yrs and MX liability insurance. There’s probably no better place in the world to own/operate a boat.
There are a number of higher quality, better performing offshore cruisers for less than $300K. The Cabo Rico 42, Valiant 42, Pacific Seacraft 44 are all vastly superior in both build quality and performance and all can be had for less than $300K.
IP has LWL 37.4' vs Cabo Rico LWL 32' vs Valiant 42 LWL 34.5' vs PS44 LWL 33.5' (advantage IP). In same order as above, here are how specs compare: Sail area/Disp. - 15.30/16.31/16.37/17.12 (advantage PS44) | Bal./Disp. - 40.0/38.8/38.6/40 (advantage - draw) | Disp./Len. - 257/365/267/325 (adv. IP in lighter air, Cabo Rico in heavier air) | Comfort Ratio - 34.12/38.73/34.87/39.36 (negligible practical difference in comfort for bluewater, but slight adv. PS) | Capsize Screening Formula - 1.84/1.70/1.76/1.68 (again, negligible but adv. CR) | S# - 1.95/na/1.84/1.57 (adv. IP). So, you can see based on the specs, they are all comparable and the examples you've given are anything but "vastly superior" in quality or performance. I've also put out a video on a Pacific Seacraft 38...they are comparable in build quality. I've seen nothing in the construction or fit/finish of the IP that would suggest it's anything but as well built a boat as the PS. And performance of the IP is par or better (certainly of the above comparisons and specs, it's very likely the fastest of the 4). Layout/comfort advantage - I personally think goes to IP of the 4. Prices are comparable between all 4. Power-plant and tankage - advantage IP. Have you ever been aboard or sailed an IP? I think you would be surprised!
For those who don't know what the S# means: "The equation incorporates SA/Disp (100% fore triangle) and Disp/length ratios to create a guide to probable boat performance vs. other boats of comparable size. For boats of the same length, generally the higher the S#, the lower the PHRF. Under 2 - Slow, under powered. 2-3 - Cruiser 3-5 - Racer Cruiser 5+ - Fast/Racing"
There's a lot of jealous people in here that can only afford older Beneteaus and Hunters I guess. I really like the IP 420. One thing I was wondering though is about the chainplates. I heard they rectified the problem with them sometime around 2003. Is this something that was fixed for the 420 models?
Sorry to hear that dude. We've enjoyed going out to dinner that last two nights with live music and normal human behaviour and living! It's a damn shame. And we're the youngest people in the crowd...lol
IMHO, the answer is no, it is not. Well built boat, for sure. Nice detailed description and tour, BTW (see how easy it is to give someone a compliment?). I don't know why some people mount solar panels right under the boom. You can see the shadow in the video, rendering the solar panel useless.
Passive/aggressive much? "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." Do some homework, Einstein. Different types of panels perform differently, in different situations. Nothing is "black or white".
if this is 245,000 then my blue water pilothouse with ten times the features and amenities is worth half a million 😆 and full keels aren’t exclusive to any brand
Nothing lasts forever. Eisenglass. What you're looking for is a boat that will be maintained such that this one has, so that components lasts as long as humanly possible. In a 100 years, none of this matters.
I watched the video, and have to say... WTF??? This boat looks terrible. You know what you can get for under 300k? Not even for 10k...as it looks like you have to pump another 100k.
Price Reduced to $245K
It's this still available???

Thank you for the compliment! I’m glad you appreciated the effort 😊
This is the best boat tour I've ever seen. More of this, less of everything else!
This is a benchmark on how a boat for sale/boat tour video should be done.
Ok, it doesn't hurt that I love the boat. But I'm here to comment about the exquisite production of this video. Well done. Soooooo Beautiful!!! I love it!
We are looking for Liveaboard 2023 !!! Our home on the market to sell THEN. It’s sailboat shopping time!

Thank you Wayne, I very much appreciate your comment :)

This... Is how you do a thumb nail / title combo! It’s not click bait, but it is interesting and eye-catching.

A really beautiful boat. I believe the 420 had some chainplate issues. But at all a great offshore cruiser. Thanks for the tour.
You would be wrong....
The chainplate issue was resolved with the 1999 model year IPs and everything after that.
Really nice set up! Me Likey! I like the in cabin rod holders and the location of the fresh food hammocks. Great boat a❤island packet .😊
Nice looking boat, but 17 yr old chainplates are at the end of the manufacturer recommended life span and very pricey to replace/fix.
Now that’s how you sell a boat!
Do you still have it.
How many hours on the iron geni?
Is this beauty still available?
Beautiful

Very nice boat!! Add a water maker and leave San Carlos behind!!🤔
Still for sale?
Where the Armory located?
Love some IPs.

how do they open the cabinet with the heater in front of it? I am all for the heater but it blocks some great storage
The door is cleverly retrofitted to lift out and provide access to that space
whats the asking price

Most people that trash talk IPs have zero experience on them or are bay racer snobs that have never been away from the marina for more than an hour.
The chainplate issue was resolved with the 1999 model year IPs and everything after that.
Island Piglet. nuff said.
Short answer :

Love the armchair sailors who stop in to give their expert opinions. As if watching Sailing Doodles makes them an expert on sailboats.
My biggest problem m is that I am 6'6" tall, so most SV are just too short in cabin headroom.
Oh Well,
Oh well. You can just sit on the couch and dream while other adapt and sail oceans. Im 6' 3" and sail around the Caribbean on a much smaller boat.
Hope you all good, likely heading into lockdown here again... smh.
Sorry to hear that dude. We've enjoyed going out to dinner that last two nights with live music and normal human behaviour and living! It's a damn shame. And we're the youngest people in the crowd...lol
The engine is vibrating way too much, it needs realignment somewhere.....there should be no detectable vibration.
Hahahaha!!! You clearly have ZERO experience with marine diesel engines. The all vibrate a lot.
No toe rails? Well, none you can safely brace against. Seems a problem for an otherwise nice vessel.
IMHO, the answer is no, it is not. Well built boat, for sure. Nice detailed description and tour, BTW (see how easy it is to give someone a compliment?). I don't know why some people mount solar panels right under the boom. You can see the shadow in the video, rendering the solar panel useless.

Do some homework, Einstein. Different types of panels perform differently, in different situations. Nothing is "black or white".
Capt Randy = Armchair Sailing Expert.
Based on current Cov -19 events this will sell for $130,000.00 USD.
A sailboat can be written off as a quarantine unit. A health expense. Cha-ching.
You must be high and not know the market.
Lol Michael...sold for well over $200k.
if this is 245,000 then my blue water pilothouse with ten times the features and amenities is worth half a million 😆
and full keels aren’t exclusive to any brand
Maybe it is...put a video up on UA-cam, and a bunch of arseholes will tell you what they think...😂
You are so proud to compare your boat to the IP420, but no enough to even tell us what the make of it is.....
Canvas Bimini won't last and the clear vinyl windows won't last either unless they are Eglass.
Nothing lasts forever. Eisenglass. What you're looking for is a boat that will be maintained such that this one has, so that components lasts as long as humanly possible. In a 100 years, none of this matters.
Nothing on a boat last long. You must never leave the marina.
Unless you like to sail upwind..
Which IP models have you sailed?
I'll take an older high quality New England built boat seven days a week instead
GREAT! And seven days a week the IP420 will still be a better boat.
Nice boats but ur camera skills are frustrating 😤
too many ads
300k 😂
I don't trust in mast furlng systems. In boom or standard.
Yup, when things go bad, they go real bad.
No
300k Are you having a laugh? U can buy your own private island for half that price!
Yeah, but can you buy your own private island for $270k?
Good Video though... 270...........nah!!!!!!!.........60
I’ve ever tried to sail an island
These videos would look much better if the sails were trimmed properly!
Its a demonstration, not a race. You armchair experts are comical.
very nice boat with a very nice and affordable price, but, ill stick with american made boats
Island Packet is American made.
IP are made in Florida. Who does not know that besides you?
IMO, the IPs are simply....well....ugly. And they are slow and un-weatherly. But otherwise.....
The ones who talk crap about IPs are the ones who have zero experience with them.
I watched the video, and have to say... WTF??? This boat looks terrible. You know what you can get for under 300k? Not even for 10k...as it looks like you have to pump another 100k.
You’re not very smart, are you.
For $270.000,00 you can buy catamaran. The best price of this yacht is maximum $100.000,00.
😂
you're crazy
Good luck with your cat in bad weather ☺️
You’re a funny guy
Some people should not talk.
I got it wow, waaaaaaaay over priced for this boat
Can get a nice super maramu for $250k so no i wouldnt pay $150k for that boat.
