The interpreter audibly tearing up while translating Troy's words about his father is absolutely priceless and beautiful.
Agree
Totally, it’s one thing to flawlessly interpret everything but to add emotion to it is really great
Pretty sure all of that was done pre win cus he was talking about popey eating spinach before doing the signs for it...
that crap was staged and also it was already arranged for him to win, he already knew, just hear the translation. There is no kindness on that. Such a bullshit award on a bullshit ceremony.
Anytime I watch that part, I tear up.
She signs to Troy "congratulations, I Love you", before announce it... she tried to said it to Troy first even though she doesn't know ASL, so she made an effort and learned a bit just in case, because she wanted that Troy knew he was the winner before the hearing people and this is INCREDIBLY thoughtful, because he deserved it to know first and no after the rest cheered because someone else translated it or by context only
You can tell the other nominees catch on quickly though - JK Simmons, being a class act, immediately pointed to him and signed his congratulations as well.
Loved that Yuh Jung Youn address the winner first in sign language then announced it verbally. She is such a class.
She was definitely very happy for him, very beautiful.
I love it when Yuh-Jung Youn signed "Congratulations, I love you", and when she did that, everyone started freaking out when they realized it was Troy's win before his name was announced. I also appreciate that they used deaf applause for him. It was incredibly respectful for all of them to do that. And Troy's speech was so beautiful. A huge congratulations to Troy and to the CODA cast.
Troy winning + Yuh-Jung Youn presenting = Oscar gold. Congratulations for Troy and CODA’s cast.
She was so so sweet!
Yuh-Jung Youn was so adorable and considerate when she offered to hold the Oscar for Troy when he had to use his hands to express himself.
thats kind of required lmao
Did anyone else hear Marlee Matlin say “oh my god” when Yuh-Jung started signing? That was so sweet.
Great pick-up!
Does anyone know what JK Simmons signed briefly when they announced Troy's name?
@@danmcgrain9050 I wanted to know too, so googled 😊 .It seems he attempted to sign ' honour'
@@danmcgrain9050he was pointing up at him cuz they can see themselves on the screen in that layout
4:46 the narrator's voice cracking... i'm crying.💔
That unsure laugh at 2:44 when audience was not seeing the reason why Yuh-Jung Youn was taking away Troy's Oscar shows just how much we need to learn in order to incorporate deaf community completely in the society. Once he starting his sign speech, we understood why he could not be holding something in his hands, but we were confused together for the second or two. We will learn, CODA was a big step in the right direction.
she's a class, i grew tremendous respect for her
i also got confused when she took the trophy but as soon as he started his sign speech, i almost felt embarassed to not get it the first time. and i also love that she stayed right beside him during his speech so that the trophy would still be in frame right beside him.
Erm, all due respect, but not only the Deaf community.
As someone who has failing sight, more representation needs to happen for all “challenges.”
But, as someone with a disability, i also know that I’m “blessed with the burden” of education.
deaf is not disability.@@Quaker-tc8ue
Really? People got confused? It was obvious to me that someone needed to hold the trophy so he could talk with his hands. I would’ve done the same thing. Good for her.
Troy is one of the most charismatic of CODA, and not only did he show that deaf people can win oscars, but he also gave charisma and more soul to the category
Marlee Matlin did that way before then
but still he's not Francois Damiens
Maybe Yuh-Jung Youn could be the most longest caught-up in camera presenter in Oscar history. Love her adorable hearwarming reaction to Troy.
He deserved an Oscar for that amazing speech
Troy & Yuh-Jung interacting is just so adorable!! I love how she held the statue for him while he signed.
Interesting how the tech crew didn't descend the mic to the floor even though Troy didn't practically need it. Such a poetic image - while the deaf may not be able to hear, they still have a voice!
I have deaf friends. Some voice, some don't
I know a gentleman who refuses to voice.
Because they literally DO have a voice. They just dont use it at least most of em
My favorite moment from this year’s Academy Awards. A well deserved Oscar for Troy Kotsur. And loved Youn Yuh Jung presenting, she’s so spontaneous and funny. Also loved the fact that she stayed on stage by his side, made me remember the 1965 Oscars when Audrey Hepburn presented Rex Harrison Best Actor and the two stayed hugged on stage. However, I have one thing to say on this category: I’ll never understand how on earth Mike Faist was not nominated for his performance in Spielberg’s West Side Story. His acting as Riff was a REVELATION, hope he gets recognized by the Academy soon
Just a quick reminder that Troy Kotsur went from being a Tusken Raider from Star Wars to becoming the first deaf male actor to win an Oscar for an acting category
Marlee Matlin was first.
@@supermariofan03 oh okay, I didn’t notice that until now
@@supermariofan03 They said first male actor lol
@@DoctorXander He edited it to male. When I read it, it just said “first deaf actor”.
He was in star wars?! No kidding
Yuh-Jung Youn is an international treasure, we must protect her.
What a powerful moment from Yuh-Jung Youn. Rejecting the awkward laughs and pauses, a moment of delicate kindness and foresight.
This moment is historic and wonderful! Troy Kotsur deserved the academy awards for Best supporting actor for CODA.
Look at Yuh Jung Youn carefully taking care of Troy. Beauty
Fun fact: We know that Troy is the second deaf actor to win an Oscar. The first? His CODA costar Marlee Matlin in the 80s.
Loved that she used sign language first before announcing his name! Didn't see this coming!
She's almost too cute to be true! Such a humble and kind lady!
When the applause gradually turned into a sign language congratulating his win, it's just so moving....
One of the most beautiful presentation of an Oscar in history. It was so pretty to watch. The way she watched his every sign is momentous while holding Troy's Oscar.
Also watched the video where she said she wanted him to win and so practiced signing 'congrats' and 'I love you' days prior to the event. Thoughtful gesture imo 😊
Best speech of the night! What a legend!
Congratulations, Troy, very well earned. Both of Ruby's parents are Oscar Winners now!
Amazing how an incredible acting performance doesn’t require much or any dialogue
This is a lesson that Charlie Chaplin already taught us. 😄👏👏👏
He won saying one word!!!!
He had tons of dialogue.. ASL was the vehicle.
Never even thought of that! I think of him as having dialog through the whole movie but he only had one line! 😄😄
i agree, but he did have dialog, tons of it.
You cannot imagine how much I cried during this live show.
Yuh jung youn is amazing
So many in the audience doing the sign for applause makes me very happy.
OMG the interpreter sobbing walking behind Troy, ack!!!
I liked CODA as a film.
But Troy is the best part of this film!
The love of a father is so strong even though he doesn't talk in the film. The scenes where they're signing so fast during an argument, give the same effect as if the words were actually spoken.
As a hearing person who is learning ASL, I think Emilia did an awesome job learning in just under a year. I don't have any deaf family members but I definitely felt the struggle of people asking you what dirty words are in ASL 😂😂😂
Congrats, Troy!
(I love that everyone was doing the deaf version of clapping/celebration!)
I just adored this humble, funny and amazing woman! ❤️ She's a Lady.
Yun-Jung Youn is sooooo adorable.... Love her.
Yuh-Jung Youn is a Comedy Icon. She needs to star opposite Rita Moreno.
It brought tears to my eyes. What a beautiful and necessary moment
I was hoping that Kodi Smit Mcphee was going to be the winner in this category, but after watching the performance of Troy Kotsur in "CODA", i just knew that he made one fantastic performance.
He is also the second deaf actor in winning this award. The previous one was for Marleen Matlin in "Children of a lesser god"
still my favorite moment in this years Oscars
Very well deserved Troy Kotsur was brilliant in CODA he truly deserved that Oscar.
This is probably the most heartwarming and heartfelt clip from the Oscars.
A very historic win indeed. His performance carried the film!!!
Troy's Wife Deanne Bray, was the first deaf actor I saw on TV, she played Sue Thomas on Sue Thomas F.B.Eye, and Troy guest starred on the show and now he's an Oscar winner.
One of the best moments of this chaotic ceremony.
Troy Kotsur has great acting in CODA. Troy Kotsur became the first male deaf actor to win an Oscar and only second deaf actor ever after his co-star Marlee Matlin, who won Best Actress for Children of a Lesser God.
He was unbelievable in CODA!!!
Most deserving Best Supporting Actor win since JK Simmons in Whiplash.
La entrega más tierna que vi ! Esa mujer tiene una ternura , considerada, encantadora y mucha humildad
One of the greatest Oscar moments. I loved this win.
Oh my god. I just saw this movie yesterday and just saw all the you tube videos related to it, it just unexplainable the emotions, the beauty, the feelings, not just the movie itself but its actors. I haven’t been touched so emotionally by a film since Schindler list.
Oh man, he definitely deserves it. I'm sure he is the best signer after his father.
Just one beautiful moment
I rooted for him winning the Oscar since the day I first watched Coda. He was the heart of that movie. He brought the funniest and most moving moments!
he deserves another Oscar for his speech.
두분이 영화같은 장면을 만들어내네요^^ 몇번을 보고 또 보는지 감동의 눈물이 뚝뚝 ㅜㅜ
You two are making a scene like a movie^^ How many times I watch it and see it again, I'm so moved by tears
ㅜㅜ
We were all cheering Troy before and after the Oscars.
Thank God for the blessing of hearing and talking
One of my most favorite moments of the entire show.
Troy and Youn are so cute together. :)
Arent they?! I immediately wished they work together 😅.Youn was lookin on with such a motherly gaze 🧡
It's ironic that Yuh-Jung Youn did a bit about her complaining how to pronounce her name and she very sweetly tried to pronounce his name or even sign it. Kinda poetic.
Phenomenal performance
💯 well deserved
Amazing congratulations sir
The facial expressions / reactions of J.K Simmons, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons are so interesting during the announcement!!
SO AMAZING !!!
What a speech!
JK signing (i believe) congratulations when Troy's name was announced was a lovely gesture.
Why did this take a whole month after the ceremony to upload? Anyway, best moment of the night, Troy deserved this win 100%.
First saw Troy in an episode of Criminal Minds.
DID NOT know who he was. He played a deaf inmate who broke out of jail and was on the run. (yeah, I know, he played a deaf inmate, duh)
BUT I did not know who Troy was. Never looked him up. I did not realize the actor was deaf. I just knew it was a great episode that made me cry at the end. Love this man.
It was beautiful! I am deaf. I love Sue Thomas and Marlee Martin too. God bless them! ❤🤟❤
I tear up as much as when i watch the movie!!
Still get emotional see this. It’s further proof that anything AND everything is possible.
more people need to know that JK Simmons signed "honor" in ASL after Yuh-Jung Youn announced Troy Kotsur's win. class act.
Touching, this is a good to around the world. Thanks Oscar
congratulations troy!
So proud of him ❤️ 💙
Oh my 😍😍
Troy kotsur was brilliant and his acting was brilliant in coda...his acting was brilliant especially in movie when tries to sense the music of his daughter, it bought tears to my eyes
now watch La Famille Belier
What a day 👏🏻❤️
This has proved no word can describe a good actor
usurper?
Coda is such A beautiful movie great performance each n every one.
Yeachhhh our actress 👑
Amazing
Wow! Great win for Troy and great movie win! It was hard to find this movie in a theater but I did.! Many of recent best picture are either terrible or don't sound like anything I would want to see. This movie is wonderful,!
is a copy of a french movie, the french one is better
Excellent sign language speech.👍🏻
WOW 😱😭❤️
One of the greatest Oscar speeches of all time.
One of the most beautiful moment in whole Oscars history
I remember watching this live and being a little upset that the applause was so little but then they cut to the crowd doing the ASL equivalent of applause and teared up a bit.
NOT TEARING UP!!! 🥹🥹😭😭
1:57 The reaction on Troy’s face pretty much says “Oh Christ. I gotta make ANOTHER speech?”
He was awarded this award, congratulations!
I was rewatching Criminal minds and he popped up on the episode.. very talented
Troy's performance in CODA was hilarious, encouraging, heartbreaking and inspiring.
He only copied the french guy from the original movie
@@abrahamlupis9354 but troy is actually deaf so he's much better at signing
He really was
@@abrahamlupis9354 you wrong !!!!!!
Youn is so Sweet!
I cried the way way interpreter interpret
Support the actors like him he such a good actor
support the foreigners that come with original ideas and avoid the u.s. copies
Muito Merecido, a academia enfim variando os ganhadores ♥️👏👏
Sim! Ele é uma graça. Merecido mesmo.
I'm from Gloucester, Ma where the movie takes place, I'm not deaf and don't know sign language but watching his performance I felt like he was signing with a Gloucester accent!
Haha such a wholesome comment
I would’ve loved for Kodi Smit McPhee because I am from the same hometown as him but this is also one of the most beautiful and well deserved victories in the category’s history. Coda as well is such a brilliant and beautiful movie.
Kodi is a promising talent so I doubt this will be the Last time he ever receives a nomination.
and a lame copy
I know now how really really very important the original "Look Who's Coming to Dinner" because of this film. I fell in love with Sidney Poitier in "To Sir, with love" because my aunt introduce it to me. But to really realize the importance of that movie not just because to the lense of history but in my own understanding and reflection I wish I see that movie during its original release.
Please cast the both of them in a film where they are the lead.
