The fact that Emilia Jones didn't get nominated for an Oscar is nothing short of tragic. She was simply amazing.
When father feels her daughter singing on the back of the truck, that part made me cry
the Leo character may actually have been the most complex.. him being the older sibling that was able to function fine before his sister was born but then pushed into an inferior role because his younger sibling can hear... his comment that 'the family was fine and could function before you were born' to Ruby was very deep.
Really good movie. The frustration Leo showed at Ruby saying "Let them figure out how to deal with deaf people", that made me cry.
My husband is a Coda. I’ve been in the family for over 30 years. The deaf community is very special. My husbands first language is ASL and my children have been raised with deaf grandparents. We are very proud to be part of the deaf community.
Incredible cinematography at that moment of complete silence during the concert. Films like this don’t come along that often. Well done all, you smashed it!
The waterworks started for me when Frank asks Ruby to sing the song for him. Up until that point, I had seen the song as a romantic song, but as soon as he made that request, the song became immensily more personal and the meaning shifted completely to a father-daughter relationship. And when he puts his hands on her throat to feel the vibration of her vocal cords, they were finally connected through music, and he finally understood and appreciated that side of her. It was a gorgeous scene.
This was the best movie I've seen in years. That moment during her audition when she starts to sign the music she is singing................GOOSEBUMPS
Amazing movie. Deserves an oscar for best performances by all actors, for director, for editing, sound design, ....
The best scene is the one with Troy and the daughter sitting on the bed of the truck and he was touching her neck to feel the vibrations of her singing. That was the most touching scene.
Emilia truly deserves all the praise and awards for this movie I can't even imagine how hard it is to learn all those lines both in dialogue and sign language the whole team and cast deserve it was an amazing experience I watch it 2x now and got emotional in both
I cried my eyes out 4 times, but I nearly wet my pants too - it was SO funny at times, so emotional at others. Great story, great authentic acting, great movie!
Troy Kotsur is so funny 😆 he is so natural to make people laugh.
I love this movie! I'm glad to hear that Marlee Matlin had trouble saying the lines where the mother is dismissive of her daughter wanting to be a singer, just because the mother was deaf. It was hard to hear those lines too, but it was part of the story arc.
troy better win that oscar. or i.ll steal it for him. he made me cry and laugh at the same time. hope he wins that oscar.
So many emotions watching this film. I remember finishing it and felt so grateful to see it, but I was a total mess after watching. I cried too many times in this film. I really commend Emilia Jones for learning ASL, she really worked so hard on it. Imagine she had to learn everyone's lines in ASL, not just her own. I'm so happy she was casted as Ruby, because she really did so well. All in all, the film is just sooo beautiful. This film deserves more views to be honest. Not many people know about it.
The first 40 seconds where they're hugging each other is so beautiful! Obviously Daniel was saying goodbye but you can see how much they all genuinely care about each other. Our world needs so many more displays of genuine love for our fellow humans.
I was so surprised to hear Emilia Jones' British accent holy cower American accent is flawless
She practiced singing for few months and that's how she sings! She's really got the talent .
Being a CODA and having a movie made to show others a perspective into our lives is amazing!
