I lost 73 lbs with a Keto diet, eating breakfast, lunch and dinner in 4 hours and fasting 20 hours/day. I also walked 8 miles every other day. I got off 7 medications I had been on for 20+ years and had best blood test results ever. After these results, my doctor said, “you have a 2% chance of continued success.” That was 2 years, 10 months ago. I still live the same lifestyle.

The best way to reduce stress and lower your blood pressure is to meditate on the Word of God and your breathing. Thank you for your very interesting information. ❤️🙏
Amen. The Lord our God is our Healer and He promises to "forgive all your sins and heal all your diseases" (Psalm 10:3). But please notice which comes first. Just listening to the Word of God read on different topics ... peace, strength in the Lord, joy etc. will calm your mind, spirit and body. This WILL reduce stress and lower blood pressure. But all the other things mentioned are important as well. God bless you all.
Almost three years ago my BP was 200/119. Medication brought it down but I did not want to stay on the meds. By following Dr. Story's advice I was able to reduce my medication to 1/2 a diuretic pill a day and get my BP down to where I am getting daily readings that are below 120/80. The only thing I am doing that I don't recall coming from Dr. Story is drinking 16 ounces of celery juice on an empty stomach most mornings. I hope everyone has a happy Labor Day!
At age 88 I was 5-11 & 185 lbs, stopped eating breakfast, ate a meal with generous supplements at noon & 6 or 7 p.m. only, lost 5 lbs. a month easily to 170 (my weight at age 40). My weight has stabilized at 160 (my weight in high school). My current age is 93. Doing chest breathing, 6 breaths a minute for 3 minutes, after stress, I have lowered systolic 40 points. At rest BP is under 120/70.
Thanks a million for pouring out your heart in detail to help me and may God richly blessed you. Your God sent - I woke up this morning needing help and you came just in time. I’m starting your program right now and will continue to listen to your message over and over. Have a great day dear.

Beet root juice and exercise have definitely been a game changer for me. I’ve struggled with my BP for the better part of 20 years and I just decided to take matters into my own hands. Thank you for sharing this information - I’ll be incorporating some of these tips.
Lowering blood pressure naturally by 40mmHg is a significant achievement that typically involves multiple lifestyle changes. I adopted a DASH diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, while drastically reducing sodium intake. Regular exercise became a priority, with 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. I lost weight through these dietary changes and increased physical activity. Stress management techniques like meditation and deep breathing exercises played a crucial role. I also cut back on alcohol and quit smoking. Additionally, I incorporated potassium-rich foods and natural supplements like garlic and omega-3 fatty acids. Consistency was key, and these changes, maintained over time, led to a substantial reduction in my blood pressure without medication.
Celtic salt has reduced my BP to normal. I take some on my fingertip about 5 times a day. Since i started my BP has returned to normal. I do not eat the poison of table salt. It’s the type of salt that is important.
I started working out since 2012. I started wiith strength training for 30 mins and walking/jogging on the treadmill for 45 mins. After two months, I joined the gym ,working out 5 days a week for three hours, after work (strength training, HIIT, cycling & zumba) for three years. I went down to 115lbs (I used to be 150bs). I kept it off the weight for 5 years. I always watch what I eat coz I do not believe going on a diet. I cut down on high intensity training, but, did heavy weights. I jog 5 miles three times a week. I gained more muscle and toned. High blood pressure and diabetes run in our family. My blood pressure is controled and so my blood sugar level.
All your suggestions to lower blood pressure are 100% truth from the day I started to do only like half of them they worked beautiful In just two days the results were amazing. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
For me turning off news and political shows helped the most. I now walk 2 miles while listening to podcasts or music or audiobooks. I’m no longer on any medications at age 69. .
This video is excellent. At 69 years old I found out that my blood pressure was higher than it should be. This came as a bit of a shock as it used to be low in the past. My cholesterol was also higher than desired. I cut out full fat foods like butter, cheese, full fat yoghurt and milk, ice cream and cakes etc. I did not eat beef or lamb but I cut out pork and processed meats. I significantly reduced the amount of chicken and turkey in my diet. I liked salmon, haddock and tuna so I continued these alongside eating lots of fruits and vegetables, legumes and nuts. I added avocado and reduced my salt intake. I take magnesium, salmon oil, some multivitamin, vitamin d and extra vitamin c supplements. I started brisk walking while listening to audio books as my exercise of choice. I walk for at least thirty minutes (generally a little longer) twice a day, seven days a week. In March 2024 my b.p. averaged 144/88 and it is now is 107/73. My cholesterol has also reduced. I have lost over 19% of my body weight but I am working to put back a little as I am now in the "underweight" category.
I like your style, clear and concise and understand just how I live my life, or at least try with minimal stress, healthy eating, less is more, quite active with household chores, and daily exercise with Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, deep breathing, meditation keeps me in good spirits and enjoy living @ 82! ❤ Thank you I now feel connected..

Well, if you give a 💩 about feeling the best you can & Living Life to the Max! Start eating more protein, like meat, eggs, butter, bacon cheese etc and cut out glutens and sugars... You'll feel GREAT & have tons of ENERGY!!! No matter how long you live...
@@brimminy Suggesting a low carb, high protein diet for cardiovascular health is about as far from excellent advice as you can possibly get. Where is Dr. Atkins now? Unlike Dr. Ornish and Dr. Esselstyn, he's no longer with us. I'd do a lot more research on the effect of a high protein diet if I were you. It was debunked many years ago, along with the so-called Paleo diets. All evidence points towards ancient man doing a lot more gathering than hunting. As for cheese, eggs, butter and bacon - all these are high-fat products that cause endothelial dysfunction.
I meant to mention, I walked an hour every day to burn fat. After I got my weight off, I started doing simple squats, planks, stretches, and weights three times a week. But I walked every day for one hour while I was on the healthy ABC diet, thank you
Completely eliminating bad Sugars e.g. Chocolate, Biscuits, Cake etc and reducing Carbs by around 75% worked wonders on my BP numbers in only a few weeks. Sugar cravings were quite bad but the results on my BP kept me motivated.
I lost weight and lowered my blood pressure and lowered my blood sugar in two months all I ate was meat butter eggs, as soon as I stopped eating starch and carb crap all my numbers are perfect .
I noticed that reducing sodium does help as well as beet juice. And if I may 2 more things that seem to work for me as well. : -A FEW SPOONS OF GROUND FLAX SEEDS -HIBISCUS TEA
I was diagnosed with elevated BP levels in 2016 and wasn't on medication. A year later, the medication was doubled. I was overweight even though I had been an oil free vegetarian for 23 years. I would go to the gym daily, so I couldn't figure out what was going wrong. I changed my diet completely - eliminated carbohydrates completely 😢and increased the fat content. Yes, the BP numbers dropped but fluctuated during the day. I discovered beetroot, and that lowered my numbers dramatically. I stopped the morning dose altogether, and if it drops at night, at least I am asleep. I also take magnesium supplement. I do have many of the whole foods mentioned in this video. I am 78 and still follow a very strict diet and exercise regimen
i just changed my hospital to a really peaceful and friendly one. its my best medical decision cos my BP readings are looking good now, after few days of medication.

Goodmorning Doc!!! I did the carnivore diet and lost so much weight in 3 months, also I drank a glass of Hibiscus tea daily .....I had a good A1C and my BP # dropped.....Cool Seinfeld tone....😂
@cjbecker1683 I ate Steak or Chicken for dinner and due to work I would have 1 egg with a grilled chicken breast from Whataburger in the mornings, and again Beef or half smoke chicken from a BBQ joint no sauce and brisket for lunch rarely fish and I don't eat pork......and I would also walk every morning for 30mins..........try it
Completely agree with everything Adam has stated in this video. I had a blood pressure crisis about 2 weeks ago (no ER but it was high enough almost). Now I am down to 128 over 78 and being more aware. My blood pressure was up for awhile and I didn't realize. Beet root juice is definitely worth getting through the taste of it. Also makes my bike rides faster and easier!
@@missyasche881too much can irritate the bladder, I had blood in urine, but no detectable infection, for months alongside awful bladder pain. Started getting medically gaslit about the pain (prob cos female). Turn out it was caused by beetroot sensitivity, now I can't eat it at all 🙁

I asked my GP to refer me again to weight management. This time was a different program. Its called lifestyle changes. They shut you down every time you say the word diet or exercise. They said eventually everyone fails diets. I only made 3 changes, drinkbat least 2 litres of water. Since I have hypothyroidism, I have bad habits of NOT eating. What I did eat was BAD. I love my 2 toasts lathered with butter (salted butter) I love salt 🧂 😋, and a 16 oz mug of tea, whats in it? Cream and whole milk. Thats it all day. So the changes I made was substitute the butter and toast, and start eating every 2 hours. After the yoghurt, fruit or eggs, for breakfast, after 2 hours I would eat a bowl full of fruit, since I'm not a sweet eater, I added chaat masala black pepper and lemon and orange juice drops. I enjoyed that actually. Its called fruit chaat. 2 hours later, lunch. I made home made soup, it had to have lots of vegetables in it, specially red and green, in the slow cooker. I like chicken corn soup or chicken noodle soup, and beef barley. At around 5 pm dinner. I marinated chicken in 0 fat or low fat yogurt and lots of vegetables, specially green and red ones. With my meals no bread or rice. Since I'm disabled and limited to my physical activities I opted to be in the kitchen at least 4 hours a day, I would clean cupboards, bend a lot and go up and down a lot. I am in a wheelchair but I even walked a bit, across the road from me, theres a small water area with ducks and geese. Lots of benches to sit on. Twice I walked across and didn't take the car. After 1 year I lost 28 kg. If I can do it, anyone can.
My age 55, have a BP of 120/90 since my childhood. I have been concentrating on my weight loss as my weight is now 76kg. I will keep my experience short. I have experimented with replacing rice with different tupes of millets after hearing so much about it's health benefits. No other diatery change nor quantity of it. In 1 month I lost 4kg, feel less lethargic after eating, less digestive problems, etc. Doctor, you have not mentioned about Yoga ofcourse, breathing excercise is also a part of it but about other parts like stretching, twisting, etc. and how they contribute to BP in your experience. Thanks for the valuable tips 👍
For me, over 10 years ago, I was having a mediteranean diet, without caring that much about calories, but I reduced sugar. However what did the trick to lose 20kg in about two and a half months, was walking 1 hour a day at a very fast pace (6km/h). I started by walking about 1~2km a day at a normal pace, increasing gradually for the first month. Then for the one and a half month that followed, I was starting my day early by walking those 6km at the fastest pace that I could. I was sweating a lot at the begining, and I remember weighing myself one time before the walk, drinking 2lt of water during, and weighing myself after it, only to find out about 100g difference (i.e. about 2lt of sweat was lost, along with a bit of weight). At the end of this effort, I was able to walk uphill at that pace without even sweating. After the first few weeks, it felt so great, I didn’t even want to skip a single day without going for that fast walk. At the end of those two and a half months, I was coming back without even sweating at all, or feeling any tired. This was the time when I injured myself by running fast while my weight was still high, even though I’d already lost the 20kg, and I injured myself, taking some months to recover. I’m not saying that this is for everyone obviously. I started by being very obese, and this was what worked for me at that time. It was just a lesson to be more careful the next time, and to not overdo it.
I have never been over weight in fact I'm quite slim , yet at 38 I discovered I had HBP , I'm 49 now and still have HBP and still haven't gained much weight,I recently cut out sugar in my food and drinks, as for salt I only eat Celtic salt I was told the right salt is actually good for you !!
You are a great Doctor. Attitude really makes a difference. Sometimes we worry about what may never happen or what may not matter in the next few minutes 😂 I do my best to stay away from negative people and it has really improved my health. Thanks Doctor. I really learned so much here!
Everything you said was very good, and well presented, until you arrived at substituing sodium with potassium . , have a salt substitute . I do not think that it is a good idea, eventually it is quite unhealthy, I know a few people who did this at the suggestion of their doctor, and all became very ill, and died early. They developed oedemas especially in the legs.By doing this, PH of the body is out of balance, has to be a bit more alkaline just a bit more, not totally alkaline. Also the heart and brain suffer, because salt helps with the electrical impulses in the heart and brain.as well. We need salt,it can be reduced but not eliminated completely. It is important what salt we use, and Pink Hymalayan Salt is very good, also Celtic Salt is good as well.
I’ve had high bp all my life, being I’ll and disabled too, but do you know I’ve just discovered something great which I just did not know before. We are supposed to take two readings. The first one for me was always too high. But wait 5 minutes and take some deep breaths and then take another reading. You will be quite amazed that the second reading is always so much lower, In fact todays was almost 40 degrees lower.

Grill chicken ground turkey red meat no bread asparagus salads exercise 6-7 days a week I’ve dropped 63lbs in 3 months and I’m in the middle of testing my body off of my blood pressure meds hopefully everything goes well
I lost weight by fasting, no carbs, one meal a day when I do eat, sauna 4x a week 30 minutes each time, lots of unsweetened black iced tea and I put cayenne pepper on everything and I use Celtic salt. My blood pressure is still elevated today because it depends on what I'm doing. Our bodies need salt. I have 40 pounds left to lose yet. I'm just a month into this.
I lost 20 pounds in 7 weeks, on somewhat of a Ketovore diet AND walking at least a mile and a half immediately after each meal. I also completely gave up most breads and all sugar, using only Stevia in my decaf coffee. I skipped breakfast every day except Sundays, for lunch I made either a chicken or tuna wrap on flatbread loaded with lettuce, tomato, cheese and onions…but most days I would make a big arugula and spinach salad with all the fixings, radishes, onions, olives, egg, tomato, cucumbers, bell peppers, and feta cheese. I still used creamy ranch dressing, and still lost alot of weight. For dinner (most days) I would satiate myself with any kind of whole meats there are, but mostly grass fed steaks, beef, fish, and chicken, with fresh steamed vegetables on the side. Overall, it’s really not difficult to lose weight with a goal in mind, it’s a matter of discipline. At age 60, I went from 185 to 165 in 7 weeks, and my goal is to get down to 135-145, which was the weight I was after having 3 children 35 years ago.
Thank you so much , very informative and actionable info. I would add taking few crushed raw garlic cloves and soak them in water for 15 mins and to drink this.
Shedding 20+ kgs through low carb diet combined with intermittent fasting and regular walks stabilized my blood pressure that used to be permanently above 179/113, sometimes would be above 200/125. I was 87 kgs and dropped to 63 kgs over a period of 1 year. My blood pressure is now 120s-130s/80s-90s.
When I was whole-food-plant-based and walked 10,000 steps a day, I got fatter and fatter. 30 lbs. heavier! I switched to carnivore (high-protein-high-fat) and lost 25 lbs. right away. Puzzling!
Plant based does not save people who over eat. Regardless of the diet your calories are what matters with weight. You can’t outrun poor caloric intake..

I was recently prescribed 4 different blood pressure pills by my doctor (at the age of 82) because I suddenly got atrial fibrillation. I read the package leaflets very carefully, and i was very surprised to find that in one of them patients were recommended to eat more salt! I know that potassium and magnesiuk are vital for heart health, so I used to eat a combined supplement of those two. But in another of the drug leaflets it said that the pills had potassium added in them, so the patient should abstain from taking extra potassium, or eating food that is rich in potassium. I wasn't told any of this by my doctor or the pharmacist who sold me the pills. The latter told me not to eat grapefruit or grape fruit juice, though, which was also printed in the leaflets of two of the drugs. (The leaflets had so smal letters that I had to use a magnifying glass to read them, but I am really glad that I did...)
Sunlight (UVA in particular) is a major way to improve nitric oxide production. Plenty of videos and papers on it. FOr me I also did ketogenic diet and dropped my BP and stopped my meds within 2 weeks (long before I lost the 35lb on it). WFPB and Southbeach had also helped me lose weight before but did not have much impact on my BP (though I only lost 10lb), and I was hungry all the time.
I can hop on a bike for 20-30 mile rides easy & don't imagine many viewers will work their way up to 25 mph........a nice cruise pace can be in that 10-12 mph range on a trail. Just being out in nature is going to help us all also👍
I lost about 10 lbs in 1 month by eating once a day plus a snack. I eat very little carbs but lots of meat and butter and also lots of greens and fruit. In the morning i do not eat however I put unsalted organic butter in my coffee (and not little, quite a bit!). The reason for this is when you eat once a day and almost no carbs you absolutely need to increase fat otherwise you will go into starvation after a few days. At lunch I don’t eat anything. Then, around 5:00 I eat either steak or burger or chicken or fish (any of these with lots of vegetables sometimes with butter). Then around 7:30/8:00 pm I have some natural yogurt and then some fruit. I do not touch the sweetened sugary yogurt from supermarket. in the weekend I may eat twice a day because I meet with friends or family but during the week I find it so much better not to eat at lunch. I can think more clearly at work and I got used to the hungry feeling and looking forward to my one meal plus the snack later in the day
Regarding eating nitrate rich foods it's also important to have the correct oral microbiome, so it is essential to avoid using mouthwash with alcohol and toothpaste with fluoride

My family friends dont believe me when l show them my blood preasure readings. I stopped taking BP medicines which l have taken for more than 20 years. I feel so refreshed. Full of energy. Reasons. I stopped taking eating processed foods. Stopped taking sugar and all sugary products like stachy foods, bread, rice pastas, flour etc. I'm 70yo. I love walking. I was addicted to energy drinks for 17 years. I now feel happy and healthy. I take omega3 and vitamin K2-D3. Since I stopped the BP meds l need to work on repairs to my body which went through asault from thiazide medications for over 20 years. I believe it can be done.
This was a great video, filled with good information but also common sense. As far as diet goes, I follow quite strictly a protocol of no ultra processed foods, including pre-packaged meals, chips, cookies, store-bought bread, etc. Other than that, it's combination of Mediterranean and DASH diets. Also, I eliminated all table salt from my diet and whenever possible, we only choose no salt added foods and eliminated sodium from the cooking process. I do think I went a little overboard on the salt minimization. I exercise regularly, work up a good sweat usually, and am a salty sweater, so I lose sodium through sweating. I also do take a low dose of an anti-hypertensive ARB medication, which retains potassium and I eat potassium rich foods. As a result, I think I suffered from an electrolyte imbalance (as you mention, potassium and sodium levels in the blood can work inversely of eachother). I started getting night leg cramping which I think reflected too low of a sodium level, so now I watch my salt intake and if I feel I'm eating too many low sodium foods on a given day, I'll salt my decaf coffee with Celtic sea salt. (Funny thing is, I no longer like foods to taste salty and my spouse needs a low sodium diet, so I have to be careful about having too much salt in our meals). For exercise, I do aerobic work outs, plus fairly intense cycling 6 days a week, and I walk and move around frequently (live on an active farm so there's always physical work to do). My BMI dropped to what is considered "moderate thinness" , rather than the normal range, but I feel great a bit thinner as I'm very petitely framed. I would add stretching to your list of exercises, along with the isometrics that you mentioned, as there is evidence suggesting that stretch exercises can keep the arteries and veins from getting too stiff. Once again, great video- thanks!
Blood pressure is complex diseases you have to restrict to many things to control it I learned one thing don’t snack sleep at least 8 hours and no stress and anxiety

Unrefined salt (sea salt, Himalayan, etc does not contribute to high blood pressure, because the sodium chloride is neutralized by the various natural products in sea ( or unrefined) salt). Refined salt (regular table salt) in the blood stream, is surrounded by 5 molecules of water (as a protection) against the mono ingredient (sodium cloride). The mechanism for refined salt to contribute to high blood pressure is the necessary protection of the surrounded water molecules. In other words, refined (regular table) salt causes excess water to enter the blood stream.

Doing chest breathing, 6 breaths a minute for 3 minutes, after stress, I have lowered systolic 40 points. At rest BP is under 120/70.

Attitude so important! I’m going to beat my conditions…if others can, so can I.

Celtic salt has reduced my BP to normal. I take some on my fingertip about 5 times a day. Since i started my BP has returned to normal. I do not eat the poison of table salt. It’s the type of salt that is important.
It's the different MINERALS in Celtic salt making the difference.
Celtic salt does nothing. It has barely any minerals in it. Just pop a vitamin.
Please can I use it to cook my meals?

After two months, I joined the gym ,working out 5 days a week for three hours, after work (strength training, HIIT, cycling & zumba) for three years. I went down to 115lbs (I used to be 150bs). I kept it off the weight for 5 years. I always watch what I eat coz I do not believe going on a diet. I cut down on high intensity training, but, did heavy weights. I jog 5 miles three times a week. Finally, I have found you who breaks down the items you need for high blood pressure!! Thank you so much!!!❤❤❤❤
"Who breaks down......"!

Completely eliminating bad Sugars e.g. Chocolate, Biscuits, Cake etc and reducing Carbs by around 75% worked wonders on my BP numbers in only a few weeks.
Sugar cravings were quite bad but the results on my BP kept me motivated.

I have a small amount of dark (80% plus) chocolate daily, rich in antioxidants and minimum sugar.
eating all carbs only once per day o every couple of days and avoiding fructose helps me to avoid cravings
Barely sweetened dark chocolates, 80-90%, can be consumed daily in moderation without fear unless it counteracts other medications!

You are awesome Dr Story. I'm so glad I found you.
Congratulations! Victory over doctors' negative words is such a magnificent achievement! Most never consider you can win!

I can think more clearly at work and I got used to the hungry feeling and looking forward to my one meal plus the snack later in the day
And your Bp ??

@DIDYOUSEETHAT172 Mediterranean diet is no longer healthy , they have as much cardiovascular health issues as anywhere else since the region became wealthy the studies were based off fairly poor regions, where they lived mainly off vegetables, Olives some fish and very little meat
Just use vinegar , and spices to replace the salt
@@aaronmeyler8838 Yep make my own EVOO, balsamic or apple cider vinegar dressings / marinades, Dijon mustard and a few herbs and fresh garlic.

I like how you explain everything thank you so much! I like to use Gray Celtic Sea salt it has 59 minerals! But we got to remember we still need iodine so every once in a while I will eat the salt with the iodine.
