It's a strange coincidence this song was getting a lot of radio play in May 1996 when the big flood in Timmins, ON occurred. While not a true disaster, it made quite a mess none the less. This same weather event washed out a bridge near Terrace Bay, ON so all east-west traffic had to go the north route on Highway 11. Another 1990s story.
Common Disaster sould me on this group - never had heard of them prior to this album. Touched me to the core and aided my healing from life...Vietnam, and other stuff. Only seen them a handful of times, each encouraged me to maintain a healthy balance. Love them.
Right on, Art. I thanked Margo after a concert for the way their songs had helped me through some tough times. She replied, "Thank you! That's what they're for!" You could see her joy in helping was absolutely sincere.
The bass and guitar working off each other in this one are as good as it gets. While not a fan or gratuitous cursing in songs I always add in my head " I'll get his ass in the end"
When we see all the little things we argue about, the way people will join together to save a dog, the safety of our children, is it not strange how disasters unite us, and how we can all unite to prevent them, and not miss out on things before disasters arrive.
Damn I love the Cowboy Junkies. And have been some seeing a showcase guy in Toronto upon the release it the the Trinity Sessions! So much great music comes from my home in Canada!
I knew this song for years, and used to hear it now and then. Awhile ago I watched "Six Feet Under" about a decade late, and was delighted to catch a glimpse of the song in an episode. Now I'm here in the video and I find Margo really resembles Brenda! ;)
Thanks to vh1, when they played videos, they introduced me to the junkies. This was the song and album that got me hooked. Songs like this, speaking confidently and the rest of the album made me a fan.
@@w0mblemania there is good music but it is harder to find. Pop music has become unbearably simplistic and overproduced. Check out Rick Beato’s videos on the subject. He’s a veteran producer and has seen the scene change for the worse for over 30 years.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 I used to listen to Rick -- not really a fan of his style/approach -- and I get what you're saying. But to be honest, I'm not even really talking about pop at this stage. Pop is... pop. It's always filled with junk, in every generation. Rather, I'm talking about the rest of the industry. There is some really stellar stuff out there.
I’ve been playing a 12 string for over 50 years. Greg Lake has always been a big inspiration to me, but it still blows my mind that he is playing a eight string bass set up as a 12 string type situation first and only one I’ve ever seen in my life Simply amazing. just for the record, as one of my best memories ever, I was at Cal State jam 74. forever burned in my memory banks, peace, everybody and happy salutations
@KatPeople Rock had the CD , someone borrowed it ... never gave it back ... bought the CD again ... things vanished when I moved . No longer use headphones ,, not going to explain it ... especially earbuds ... now they're saying earbuds do more damage because they get closer to the brain ... something about EMFs coming off the earbuds . Would love to see them in concert , yes , indeed ... but in the meantime when someone uploads the song it just would be nice if they upload it loud enough since a lot of us are listening on our cell phones and not laptops and computers .
I hear you , my friend . Believe me I hear you and yes I read the same thing about the earbuds and that's why I stopped using them cuz it kind of sounds like it makes sense and I already had brain damage and post-concussion syndrome and severe memory loss and so I don't need any more damage to my neurology
Used to listen to this song all the time, but the past week it eluded me and I couldn't remember the song name or the band name. Thank god I figured it out! Love it so much!
Canada brought us many a good thing! They brought us Rush, and this band the Cowboy Junkies! For these 2 talented bands alone, I can forgive Canada for giving us Justin Bieber!
"l found myself a friend, he's crooked as a stick in water", is a great lyric.
This song is more relevant than ever before. Who’s with me✌🏼🤙🏼
right on!
I agree. She and her brothers are spot on with this song ps don't forget the bass player as well
I am👍
Saw them at the recent Calgary folk festival. Margo said the pandemic was a common disaster.
Our country is in a freefall.
God I forgot how much I loved this song.
This is pure masterpiece
My favorite Cowboy Junkies cut!! Margo’s voice…..OMG❤️💕
The bass line in this song totally awesome
One of the best ever in my opinion
You are correct.
Hofner violin bass
If you haven't heard their version of "Sweet Jane" .... immediately do so.. well, after this song is over!
Chryssy Sandoval Best version ever!
Agreed. Also their cover of ‘Powderfinger’.
Nice version. When did they do it?
@@Texturas75 not too sure but I do remember that it was on the "Natural Born Killers" soundtrack.
Nice video remember 1996 amazing year...! Alanis, Jewel, Tracy Bonham, Garbage, Fiona Apple, Heather Nova, Natalie Merchant, Paula Cole, Sara Mclachlan, Shania Twain, The Corrs, Cardigans... Love them!
Agree.. 1996 was a great year to pop music
Love all that you mentioned, incredible female musicianship. I miss the 90's... 😞
Tori amos, juliana hatfield, sass jordan,
Tori Amos and Dolores O'riordan.
came to knew this song back in mid 90s when MTV used to play real music. i still love it.
Great cheekbones and a great album. My god she's beautiful!
One of the most beautiful songs of all time.
Margo's voice is sweet as maple syrup and as intoxicating as whisky. Just one more reason to love our neighbors to the north.
Great comment. :)
It's just a artistic interpretation of reality.
seductive
They have a lot to make up for after Justin Beiber.
Didn't Beiber make it in the States first? You can thank Usher for that. Plus, Canada has contributed more good music than bad.

Love of this amazing group when I first heard this cut...still moves me and knocks me out emotionally...seen them a few times and wow.

right on, thanks for sharing this. Hope you are still hanging in there 4 years later.
Please keep healing.Ben Harper's music may help too.
@@twasbrillig33i LOVE your name , the first two words of my favorite poem from my childhood as well as the rest of my years going forward .
Man, I love her voice and intensity. Years now! It is sooo beautiful! Old Soul, most definitely.
Timeless classic
I first heard Cowboy Junkies with the Trinity Sessions album, bloody awesome!
Song still holding out so strong after so long.
The bass and guitar working off each other in this one are as good as it gets. While not a fan or gratuitous cursing in songs I always add in my head " I'll get his ass in the end"
This song reminds me of my dad. He's been gone for ten years, and I am thankful every day that he exposed me to such brilliant artists at a young age.
When we see all the little things we argue about, the way people will join together to save a dog, the safety of our children, is it not strange how disasters unite us, and how we can all unite to prevent them, and not miss out on things before disasters arrive.
Moody and dark with a solid groove. Great song
This is my sister and myself's life story. Traumatic childhood. Love it!
Damn I love the Cowboy Junkies. And have been some seeing a showcase guy in Toronto upon the release it the the Trinity Sessions! So much great music comes from my home in Canada!
That bass!!!
Yep
Makes all the difference !
The bass/lead playing off each other is masterclass stuff.
Great bass ! Great band!
A perfect mix. A Genuinely Great Band. They all have "the feel " as it were . Again the whole Band has that Genesayqua .
You play?
Absolutely awesome tune that I enjoyed in the 90s and agree it's timeless.
gives me shivers everytime
DANG, this was an awesome flashback.
What an amazing voice!

a hidden gem of a song
My lord. This song is pure fuel for a riveting murder romance script. It's a shame I can't write worth a damn.
Each time I've seen the Junkies live, people ask me "How was it?" and I think to myself, 'you know how it was'..."It was sublime. Just the best".
wow love this song...underrated group...
Cowboy Junkies are smooth as silk. Margo your voice goes down like a smooth whiskey. Your music just makes me happy.
You can't keep a good song down. They always hold their own!
Thanks to vh1, when they played videos, they introduced me to the junkies. This was the song and album that got me hooked. Songs like this, speaking confidently and the rest of the album made me a fan.
One of my favorite songs, sung by the best sounding female vocalist I've ever heard.
She is awesome.
This is one of my favorite songs on one of my favorite Cowboy Junkies CDs.
Great mood music! Margo Timmins is a great talent!!
A very haunting and underrated CJ song. Love their coolness.

+Charles Sevigny I agree!
MARGO IS SOOO BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED...THE PERFECT WOMAN!!!! I WILL LOVE HER FOREVER!!!!!
Deserves to be played loud
music in the 90's comes back because it was great original and offers quality something that you will never find in the poor music scene these days...
You're not trying hard enough. There's as much great music around now as there ever was. You just have to look around.
Weirdly, I actually agree with both of you.

A common disaster - Life in general.
Happy 60th Birthday Michael Timmins
That solo is short and oh so twisted, the dissonant undertones pull out and underscore the the song. Genius!!
Crooked as a stick in water......👌
I swear she's the female version of Chris isaac or vice versa idk I love them both!

To reiterate the comment at the top...THE smoothest voice in music, absolutely fantastic
Margo is a TREASURE!
so groovy
wow heavy bass lines
To dark guy , very heavy !
Makes it a masterpiece!
Band never got what it deserved
A fallen Angel and her great band! Higher Melodies!
Perfect mix.
This song is amazing and Lay It Down is one of my favorite CDs in my collection.
She and their music reminds me of Mazzy Star
My theme song for when I'm feeling noir-ish.
A perfect descriptor.
SHY WATER.
Super song and great band in beatyfull women in the voice amaizing I remember 16 years old

The Timmins, especially Margo’s singing👌🏼.. The scene at the end where ‘Dorothy’ is flattened by her house is some dark humor, very CJ..
Common Disaster, very 2020
A song from 1996 sums up today, I'd say.
1:23 catching her breath, best version of that I have ever heard lol
love this great song.
a beatiful voice !
Cowboy Junkies are the ONLY greatest thing to come out of Canada don't argue with me just agree with me 😵💫
J'adoreeeeeeeeeeee
Ooooh I remember I heard this one many years ago. Probably on Swedish MTV.
Hat tip to the smooth character who outfitted the female deputy in REACHER with a Cowboy Junkies tee.
Muito boa essa música. Há bastante tempo eu não ouvia.
Love this tune :)
