“Unscheduled dismount” very diplomatically phrased 😁✌🏻
4:08 "I never ride motorcycle, what should I do?" "...Well, just take one of the electra glides..."
I trained a 4'10'' little girl in the motor officer techniques. I first put her on a Police Electra Glide with a standard civilian seat. She still had to stop and start on one foot but she got the hang of it in about 2 hours. She was soon riding with no problem even with the police seat. For short riders, the police seat can be easily cut down and narrowed in the front and have foam added at the back of the seat to sit the rider closer to the bars. Doing so, makes it much easier to back up the bike and much more stable when stopped. If you need such a seat, let me know as I have a couple of modified police seats.
How long do you ride in the heat doing slow ride before taking a break, any overheating
I do a show in the end of April where I'm riding for 15 minutes straight, in 90 degree heat, on the black top, which is about 110 degrees, and never over heated. The newer Harley's will shut down if they over heat. I've never had that happen here in Fl. and I run classes all summer long.
jerry ive been riding for a few years im a young guy in my 30's and im thinking about getting a bigger bike but people keep telling me that a sport bike is better than a cruiser because they can break faster and move better in case of an emergency is that true? i love to cruise and my passion is a cruiser bike but would i be safer in a sport bike because of breaking power as oppose to a cruiser?
@@rodm2895 Since sport bikes have a short wheelbase and rake, if too much brake forced is used, the rear tire will lift and you could go end over end. If the sport bike has ABS, that system can prevent that from happening but it will lengthen the stopping distance., Due to the long wheelbase and rake of a cruiser the rear wheel can not lift. Thus braking distance is about the same on either type motorcycles. Just buy a bike with ABS, and get some good training, and don't listen to so called ''experienced riders''.
Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino thank u very much for ur advice Jerry have a great day and God bless
i found myself cheering for the guy who had never ridden before lol.
And me for that very short guy, who was unable to reach the ground with both feet at the same time.
Interesting... You get cops who never rode motorcycles onto the training... I always figured guys who'd get on that were genuine riders in the first place.
The advantage of teaching someone with no experience at all is that they don't have years of bad habits that need to be broken.
Us self-taught types might have learned to get the job done, but that doesn't mean we learned to do it the right way.
And that can be important when you're representing not just yourself, but an entire department, and could have an entire platoon of lawyers looking to hang you out to dry for the least little mistake.
Guard Dog's right. Self taught riders develop bad habits. I know I probably have in the 3 months I've been riding. Just got my endorsement last week. Always room to grow.
So therefore ,,, you think genuine bikers would do better in this course ? Wrong ...after 3 days you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference of who is who.
Memphis PD Motors... As an instructor I'm loving how you guys start at the very beginning of rider training. It's so important and often overlooked; as, instructors are sometimes too anxious to get to the pattern training. Great job!!!
That’s wild. First time riding a bike and they’re on one of the biggest heaviest bikes there is. None of this Honda 50 for the first time here.
Amazing how quick you see progress, nothing cooler than watching or seeing motors on the road. That's what got me riding 40+ yrs ago😎
No kidding, man. I just got my M endorsement last week. Talk about a feeling anyone who never has or will ride a bike will ever feel. For some reason it comes naturally, but, there's always room to grow. I am in love, man. These guys get my mad respect. I am not as good as them.
What would be interesting is to follow one or two of the officers for a few days after graduation. See how they do on their first few tours of duty as a motorman.
Toughest 120 hrs of training I ever went through. Motors is the only way to go.
It is absolutely amazing how the Police instructors can take a non rider , and turn them into some of the most skilled riders in the world !
love the idea of taking a rider from scratch and the impressions of fundamentals. Great vid
My grandfather was a Waukegan cop in the 70s and one of the first motor units of his department. They ran the motorcycles out of his garage xD
I live next to walk town never seen a bike cop in my life wonder why they don't ride anymore
My grandparents lived in Lake Zurich back in the 70's, we went to Waukegan all the time.....great memories😎
I live one town over as well. I just got my first Harley and that's why I'm watching this. I didn't know they had a motor unit. But times have definitely changed since then.
Way to go Motors!! One of the toughest schools I've been to in my career. Typical motor fashion, when u drop your bike(sirens will go off) Stay safe.
I love how the first thing they taught them was how to push their Harleys! 😂 Just kidding. I'm a huge Harley guy! I have a 08 Electraglide. Great video! Much respect.
Holy... WOW.
I wish I could train with motor police officers... if even just for a couple of days.
I’ve had a few of those “Unscheduled Dismounts”
If I ever cum too quick I’m just gonna start calling “unscheduled ejaculation”
So can someone tell me why it is that when the motorcycle has its kickstand down, the ofcr dismounts to the right? I see some ofcrs struggle to do it. One would think dismounting to the left is much easier, as thats the way the bike is leaning
I’m not an officer but I mount on the right because I’m tall. It’s much easier if you have a bad back also because you’re bringing the bike to you instead of flopping down on it.
Man going from no motorcycles to this has to be insane.
i found the clutch travel to the beginning of the friction zone [aka the sweet spot] very far out on the harley as well; it was at my fingertips and i actually had to let go of the handle to use the clutch. This was remedied by replacing the clutch and brake levers with adjustable levers. the clutch is much easier to use and it's now possible to do the two fingered thing with the brake as well. i love this vid! i'm 5'4" toooo lol. u go guy!
“Unscheduled dismount” 🤦♂️.....that’s pc for falling off your bike folks, Strewth!!!!
Once these guys get a few years under their belt, I can honestly say nobody rides better than a cop. I've been riding for 53 years and I ride a Road King.
about 9 years ago I had a problem with my 800cc Suzuki Marauder, It went onto it's right hand side and I couldn't get it up. I remembered another pgm similar to this one where the officer sat in the seat and pushed it up by walking backwards. It was a flash thought for me but once I used it the bike came up very, very smoothly so I have the U.S. Police Forces (motorcyclists) to thank for that tip. Although it was a bit smaller than these beasts it's the same method and I'll never forget it now.
Did I hear correctly? Some cops learning to ride for the 1st time on a 1700cc?
go big or go home as they say
I am beginning on a Sportster and that damn bike of mine is heavy at 550+. Almost Unschedually Dismounted my boss's Ultra Glide Limited. Talk about a PIA to get back up after leaning it 15 degrees
A big v-twin doesn't have nearly the compression ratio of other bikes, so the "1700 cc" label means virtually nothing. It's not exactly a Hayabusa.
@@huntergirl7275 i was refering to the big weight of these bikes
Thx for ur service u make the world a btr place.
I wonder if the Sportbike Cop tells his Sportbike buddies he's riding a Harley now 😁 oh the shame of it.
I found I was stressed just watching. It brings back memories from the course I took two years ago. Intense.
I commend you. I just started riding street bikes 3 months ago. Had a dirt bike for 5 years. I am not as good as any of y'all who do it for a living.
Excellent explanation of how to use the H-D, please keep us updated on the progress of the Motor Unit. Great job, as always! (Glad to watch the reload, again)
Harleys are just bad ass. Imagine if they were riding spotsbikes...they would all look like dorks.
A ultra classic is a very advanced bike, for someone with zero experience
Horrible geometry, horrible brakes, horrible gearbox, top heavy , and wide. Advanced? Not at all.
shocking to learn that some of those guys didn´t have a license before they entered that unit
What’s more shocking is how many graduate the academy and have zero firearms skills whatsoever. And don’t own one themselves.
@@VState60 Commmmmee on?
@@VState60
Makes no sense! Weapons qualifications??
Fantastic video. Are there any women motorcycle officers?
Siobhan Norman a female officer led a civilian motorcycle license course here.. bad ass did stunts in front of us and everything
@@annamika5461
I'd love to see that video.
So what if an officer has their motorcycle license already and they have been riding for a while already? Do they get to skip the basic training and do they just have to do the police training part of it? We have motorcycle cops here in Toronto as well, as well as in all the surrounding jurisdictions and the provincial police. The OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) Gold Helmets are quite well known.
Real respect for you guys. Retired UK COP
Its there officers there who have never riden a motorcycle? i missed that part
1:20
Rode with those guys for years when I was on motors. Mathis is the man. Glad I’m retired now, living the life and still riding in central Florida.
"Unscheduled dismount"
Now dropping bike isn't that embarrassing anymore. You just dismounted it with a schedule.
@Scubaninja100 These BIKES are 995
Tough Class but essential.
That's amazing that the instructors have combined a basic rider course into the Harley certification.
Hey awesome video I just subscribed and turned on notifications keep up the good work and be safe being a police officer is very dangerous so be safe 👍👍
I just finished my msf course on a 250 with some prior experience. Can’t imagine staring on such a beast bike
GAWD, starting with an Electra Glide as a FIRST MOTORCYCLE? These Miami Leos got BALLZ!!! Seer
seeratlas d' Tyria I’m 17 and started on an Electra glide when I was 16
man, I've never ever dropped a bike before, but with one of those 900 pound bikes id be dropping it all day. They're doing really well for never riding a motorcycle before and hopping on a 900 pound bike
Almost "Unschedually Dismounted" my boss's Ultra Glide Limited once. Talk about a PIA to get back up after tilting it 15 degrees. Mad respect for these guys.
Great vlog on Motor School. Be Safe. Retired Motor Officer , City of Stamford, CT.🏍🇺🇸
I enjoyed this video more than anything else I’ve seen today. 🙌🏾
You can be a motor officer without ever having ridden before ? Surprising.
In some cases that might be better-no bad habits to unlearn.
Gotta start somewhere....good vid =)
I noticed an instructor doing a demonstration without all his safety gear (gloves) ... bad, no doughnut!
I want to see K9 videos! :)
Cuervo PI moar doggos please
I was taught..by H.P. trainers you always mount and dismount on the Right side...why?...You stay out of traffic..less chance of getting hit by other motorists.....Kansas Highway Patrol training School...and we have less than 12 troopers for the whole State...under staffed for sure...
Their website says they have more than 800 members of the patrol.
Colton Blumhagen pretty sure he means officers on motorcycles.
@@ColtonBlumhagen the web site is for all State troupers... office staff, car patrol, air patrol, trainers at the schools, and motorcycle le corps are the bottom of the list...I know for a fact...have family as Troopers...smartass..
LOL I love one of the first things they have to learn is how to deal with the bike "when the motor's not working" LOL they ARE Harley's after all :) Seer
@Mexico City
That may be the case in the US, but I was told that Harley offered the best fleet prices in Canada, so that's what they went with. Smart marketing!!! That's what Harley does well, marketing.
seeratlas d' Tyria I saw a funny question once it said if Harley-Davidson made a airplane would you fly on it ??
thanks for what you do, thanks for your service.
Excellent presentation- taking a novice from scratch- well done in all areas
Looks great. As a MSF instructor, I would advise the instructors to wear all their gear(full finger gloves/long sleeve shirts) whist demonstrating the exercises. Other than that great job
Besides head gear, boots and gloves it looks like they handled everything pretty well. It was a controlled environment.
TY for including us in the Memorial Service for the fallen Officers🇺🇸God Bless.🙏🏼💗🇺🇸🏍
I'm a new subscriber and THIS IS SO AWESOME! I ride 2017 HD Street Glide Special and I Love it. I would love going thru those riding curves. I do love in the Miami area and this makes me so PROUD💪🏽. Ride safe and God Bless 😄. 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼💃🏽🏍
Guys who have never ridden before should learn on a much smaller and less powerful bike before graduating to a real police bike. That's conventional wisdom.
There is always a first time for everything in this world .
Determination and focus plus listening to understand is key.
I found watching someone else do it gives the most confidence.
Your jobs are hard enough and now with an elevated difficulty riding a motorcycle while having to contend with the weather and cagers. Thank you for your service. Ride safe and God bless.
Please no Harley Davidson, please.
These Instructors are Razor Sharp
MSF BRC first couple of exercises. Throttle & clutch control is a valuable skill for beginning as well as those that are experienced.
Your course is similar to MSF BRC did you know that??
Looks like i need to move down south to train these officers on some golden helmet moves. Good stuff
these guys will be easy to out run ! :crying with laughter:
So @ time line 11:00 in talking about feathering REAR brakes...Do the police bikes have separate braking the " ELB electronic linked braking? From What I have been told the "sweet spot " in the Hydraulic Clutch is NON EXISTENT. ME I have a old 1992 FLHTC . I wish there was a group in the Treasure coast for civilians doing this,& advances Motoring. Ride safe ,keep the sunny side up & have Fun.
The hard training is necessary. Motors is probably the most dangerous job in any department. The riding conditions are very dangerous with traffic, weather, and the idiots we see every day driving on the roadway. Check Wikipedia and look up Los Angeles Police killed in the line of duty. The amount of killed by "Motorcycle Accident" is huge. Again, VERY DANGEROUS JOB.
11:00 I don't think Mathis does the best job with descriptive words. It seems like he's not sure what he's gonna say. Actually I don't think he should be teaching at all but that's just my opinion after watching 100's of hours of motorcycle know-how videos.
Sorry but I just look at this as if I'm the one on the bike trying to learn, the recipient of whatever he's saying.
Learn how to teach by visiting Paul at Prorider Central Texas, Jerry Palladino, CanyonChasers, FortNine, and others like Simmons (but he takes too long to get to the point) (so does MotoJitsu).
That officer who’s 5’4”, how did they adjust his seat? I’m 5’7”and I can’t flat foot my 2015 police Electra Glide that I just bought.
Why does your department choose such a large bike for police duty? Why wouldn't a naked 1000cc work? Storage capacity? Crash Safety? More open space in FL?
I really enjoyed watching the training and drills these officers were taught.
500 kg harley as a working tool. Lol. Bad brake, chromed out cruiser with terrible performance and 200kg overweight. No sane police officer here would ever work on a bike like this. Only in america. Ridicolous.
Tiny little Chicks can Handle those Big Bikes better than most Men... No Shame, Ociffers! ;) \,,/
11:15 XD
Instructors: Some of the police officers never rode a motorcycle before.
Me: Great! So let’s start them off on a 1,000 pound, 1,700 cc motorcycle. Lol 😂
"Unscheduled dismount"? I like this. Now I know what to say to my insurance company! Jokes aside , truly amazing skills!
Indians are better, I know cuz I own one. Height means absolutely nothing. I have seen with my own eyes a 115-pound woman school everyone with a Harley road glide. It comes down to technique. Advise everyone to subscribe to "ride like a pro" Jerry Palladino. He was a motorman as well.
Hard to believe you'd want to be a motor officer without knowing how to ride a motorcycle, but then again when i went to Navy bootcamp there were guys who joined and didn't know how to swim. Still can't figure that one out lol Love watching the motor officers when they have competitions in my area, these guys can really handle the clutch.
These Harleys may look cool, but they don't belong in the police force. They are too big and slow. A proper police or fire rescue motorcycle should be able to accelerate quickly, make fast nimble turns, and go super fast. This matters when traffic slows down 4-wheeled cars and seconds count. You guys probably buy Harleys to serve the American workforce. But sports-tourers, like the BMW 1200 RTPs and even superbikes, like the Suzuki Hayabusa, are much more fit for these kind of duties than a Harley. The sports tourers and superbikes can also be used by the paramedics to respond to patients with serious or life threatening emergencies with proper tools very quickly to treat and save their lives before a 4-wheeled ambulance or an airlift helicopter arrives.
Wow!!! They take people who have never rode a motorcycle and turn them into professionals. I wonder how many actually make it when they have never rode vs when they have experience? Good school I know I’d love to do the practical part of learning what the school expects but I never want to be a Police Officer so I give them guys who honor their Oath all the respect.
Honestly, I need to get some training for this guys . They are really good ! I am driving actually, Harley Davidson road king police !
I'm a motorcycle rider myself and I'm not a big fan of these Harley's for police use I'm not knocking the company it's just the fact that these motorcycles are unnecessarily heavy for their low CC power only made for a single rider plus they are terrible off road especially for Florida dirt
We got beach sand we got suger sand we got swamps things that make 4x4 trucks struggle sometimes ... shouldn't the point of having motorcycle cops partly made for the fact they can go places cars cannot go with these id be scared to go down an ally thats 4 feet wide but i easly go down with the bike i have now
Some kind of doul sport - scrambler - adventure bike or even a cafe racer will be much better for the job
And i want to ask if i become a motorcycle cop could i spend my own money a build a better bike for myself
I bet if i was giving permission to do that i could even ride around with a K9
Whoa, some have never driven a motorcycle? That’s mind scrambling.
To me that’s a liability.
Motor cops are the best. Supreme skill on heavy bikes. I like the positive attitude and perseverance of the shorter dude. I hope he made it.
Miami taco businesses must be doing good because a lot of the officers need diet coke still :) "What exercise are you about to do officer, uh, corn on cobe & chicken wings, da da da da diet coke :) & more throttle!!!!
Motorcycle cops are good on their vehicles. Bike cops? Not so much. They think they'll melt if they get rained on.
this reminds me when i took my test to get my license .just with nicer motorcycles
Thats not the sound a horse makes lol great video btw, can we get a video with mounted patrol riders?
This was a very interesting video. Wishing ye every success. From Ireland.
Hats off to some of those officers that have never ridden before only to jump onto a 1k lb bike. That’s like driving a formula car at drivers ed. Good idea to put the pads on and take off the saddle bags, that way all that gets hurt is their pride.
I know this is late on slowly binging it to catche back up. You should do a mounted, bicycle, and marine training
Why do American police ride such heavy awkward bikes any way. There are much better bikes
Hello, how did you make those fairing protectors? Please share some details and the guard for engine guards.
LMFAO they are training newbies on what is quite possibly the worst handling motorcycles in history? IDK why departments continue to use HDs when BMW makes a far, far superior police motorcycle. Not even in the same ballpark.
The two bikes you mentioned are the worst on the list. They should number riding Honda's.
Wow wow you have your good day love your mom is good morning I love you love love your day today I have no no you are love love and you are you have love your mother love love your day you are so sweet I miss love your mom is you I have you and you love me love love and your day I have no no good morning you are your good love you have no good today no good no you have good luck and love love and your day today and you I have no no you have love your good love and you are love your good morning I have love you love love you have love you love love you I
Smart thinking to get them used to pushing a harley... 😆 🤣 😂
So this is kind of like the MSF basic riders course just with lights and sirens
Where can I find the fairing guard that's applied at the corner of the "batwing"?
Did they all pass? Odd ending.
