Let me tell you about them, change there water daily, change there food about every few days. Finches are so cute i have some myself. They learn there songs from the dad bird. The stripes on there chest (zebra finch) thats why they call them zebra finches. Fun fact, the finch is one is one of the smallest birds in the world with most being native to the southern Hemisphere. Did you no that a flock of finches is called a charm?

You have three variety there. The common orange cheek. The black cheek and the beige . It’s advisable never mix them all together. Don’t destroy the nice colour you have. Male have check with bird orange and female has lighter cheek and no cheek patch. Young Zebra finch are born with black beak and later in life colour start to appear on the beak. Breeding are quiet simple and provide grass or coconut material. They are happily to breed. Word of advise don’t give to much nest material. Many of them will practice nest layer building. ( building a nest on top of another). Best is after each chick left the nest. The nest box is clear out and clean. Left empty so that female can build new nest. In that way you can minimize mite and other disease. They also require some cuttlefish bone and mineral sand as calcium as that made female to have strong egg shelf. Some board band vitamin in water once a month. Bird Pearch don’t be too big as it will develop feet problem. Black check should be breed on the own. Genetic throw back will happen. Try to source a pied variety. Yet Very so often you will get a full white zebra finch without any marking with a red dark beak. The baby can be hand feed and train to become very tame. Occasionally fly off and return to you on your hand. That is a achievement. All the best and hope more video of your zebra finch.

Don’t do community breeding. In the wild the are ok because they are all same species. A common orange cheek.
In aviary breeding… different variants are evolve. If you mix you just mess it all up. You have few good strain. Keep it pure breed simple. Don’t be lazy and mixing it all up. Example orange cheek with black throat or head and others.

I'd say go for colony breeding with the option for selecting a pair now and then, if you want to develop special caracteristics. You still can reintroduce the pair back to their peers, later. Dexter, are you from Sri Lanka? Cause every word you say sends me back to that beautiful place. Keep on going and may your dreams become reality!

I would personally follow the advice of the person you brought them from. Leg bands mean the breeders have thought carefully about the genetic blueprint and you won’t be in breeding. Maybe you could try some community breeding a bit later. Sometimes it about quality not quantity to start with, they are beautiful happy birds 😊

Finches are awesome hardy birds. They’re like watching fish swim around-very soothing. Ok raised many varieties in the past. You’ll love them! I did! Get some Society Finches cause they’re good parents & surragant parents & will rear other eggs or babies that aren’t cared for. Enjoy! They’ll reproduce fast- trust me! Good luck! You’ll do great!

They can be messy birds lol. They prefer an open birdbath as opposed to enclosed one. Cages with a slide out bottom with news or wax paper on it can make cleaning a little easier.
Coconut fider or dry grass best for nesting material
Calcium source is important for breeding. I used cuddle fish bone.
You can use a regular enclosed basket for them to nest in. I use to make covers for milk cartons and mounted them to the outside of the cage with a lid. You can monitor the chicks a lot easier this way. But it's always best not to disturb them as much as possible. I would just cut 2 L or 1 L milked cartons in half and use the bottom half as a nesting box.

    #1 - What’s the bike at 0:47
#2 - Need advise from any experienced regarding controlling the breeding of finches.
Is it ok to make two separate cages. Putting all the male birds in one cage and the females in another. And for breeding keeping a separate cage, where we can add selected pairs for breeding.
Or else to keep the colony as it is and avoid providing nesting box and materials so they will stop over breeding.
Bcz they start the next clutch before the chicks are matured and avoiding the chicks from feeding. Sometime chicks are forced out from the nest before their usual nestout maturity.
