I think the brake caliper should be at the rear of the front hub not at the front of the hub
100% correct. The caliper was installed incorrectly in this video, the front is wrong, they belong in the back. There's far too much play in the stock brake lines when installed in the front (wrong). Anyone who may see this, I hope this comment helps, along with this mans video.
@@robm4526 thanks man you’re a life saver
@@robm4526 What do you mean by play? They are hydraulic lines, not cable. They either have proper pressure or don't. Another reason i install them in the front is to help protect the caliper from debris when driving forward since they are shielded more by the rim.
Cars can have both leading or trailing brakes pads, granted that trailing is more commonly used.
Thanks for the video!
Glad it helped :)
Thanks for the video. In sure it will help me when I go to work on mine
Glad to hear it!
Hope yours turns out great!
I think you put the disk brake on the back side of front wheel
Great job... Just did and finished today..
I didn't get the calipers mixed up
Because of your cool vid...
PEACE fren
Glad it helped :)
If I put disc brakes on my fourwheeler can I still go tho mud just wondering
I don't mean to sound like a know it all but I think your caliper problem is because your brackets are on backwards.. The bend in the bracket is supposed to face the rear of the bike not the front. Still a good video tho buddy!
Sure would be nice if they specified in the instruction (>.- *cough cough. they are terrible*), but they drill out part that makes the bolts fit flushly if bent in specifically. You can not reverse mount it (see the video at 1:38)
Sooo I have to apologize! I just got in a quadrax set and the instructions say to mount it towards the front too! My highlifter says to go towards the back tho lol! Guess I'll do it like these say.
@@chasemontgomery9051 NP, glad ya got it figured out :)
Chase you are correct ... you guys are reading the instructions wrong and looking at the pictures on the instructions not enough ... the calipers are sopposed to be in the back ... yes i understand the instruction are misleading but if u really look at how the show it they have an arrow pointing to rear
Also ur mount that u say cant be turned the other way is for the other side of the machine ... you do not want your brake calipers in the front ...
I followed video. The brake line wont reach. I need to switch them in order to reach the brake line.
Good vid , planning on converting rear drum on a rancher420
Well i hope you find my tutorial a hell of a lot more useful than the crappy included instructions :)
(also, double check the packaging if your calipers are in the right box for the correct side)
Thx I’m
Going to change over my wife’s brakes to this I hate the drum brakes
Thx again and merry Christmas to you 👍🏻
Hope it helps :)
I want these on my rear tires on my 2000 foreman. Kit says it wont work with stock rims. Do spacers work or do I need new rins?
I replaced my tires with some 12 incehers from a different hodna atv (i cant remember, bough them used on craigslist for like $200).
i would go with what the manufacturer says, replace with larger rims to ensure clearance.
So my question is, are they actually working well? Like was it worth the money to convert them? I have an 88 300 but the brakes are non-existent and just don't stay working long with the drums. I've been thinking of going this route but don't want to spend it if it's not worth it.
I you need to rebuild the entire front brakes (like i needed to), Yes absolutely worth it to swap.
I you just need to replace them, no, id just buy some ultra-high quality pads.
Edit: Also, they are a decent improvement over the drums in terms of breaking power, but i would also recommend re-building your master cylinder for maximum pressure potential (i needed to, as the old piston i had in there would not hold enough pressure to make it brake effectively),
Let me no if im right because i seen another vid on here from utube it on the back side
5:30...No grease???
i have an issue while bleeding brakes, there is no pressure at all and no liquid coming out at all at the bleed screws. I suspect the master cylinder may just not be pumping anything because i can hear air pumping out at the bleed screws, but no fluid is coming out.
Air in the lines. Buy a brake vacuum pump kit.
Make sure the bleed screw is on the top, if it's on the bottom you'll never get it bled out.
I'm trying to gather installation information regarding this SuperATV front disc conversion kit. Your video is pretty good but my question is did you press, hammer, or otherwise cut out the original threaded studs from the hub flange? (i.e. "the piece that the wheel would mount on") Nobody documents this -assumed- part of the process. Thanks
I hammered mine out.
Just got a socket that fit over the back of the stud and wacked the shit out of it until it came out.
You need to because the new (extended) studs that come with the kit mount through were the original ones were (see 3:48).
Hope that helps. If so send beer :)
@@Orvis25 Yeah man that clarifies everything. It was my suspicion that the studs had to be removed but nobody was actually documenting that fact for the SuperATV kit. Thanks for the video... I had a beer last night in your honor, best I could do =)
@@robturner7116 *Thumbs Up*
Where do u get more pads
the company that make the calipers (SuperATV).
They might also be able to use motorcycle pads, but im not sure.
will it fit 11in rims
i doubt it. it was a tight fit for the 12 inch rims.
If I do this to my 1998 Honda fourtrax 300 can I still go tho mud
i would "assume" so, but do not take mine mudding so, cant say for sure. talk to the company.
@@Orvis25 ok thxs
Dose it matter what way the drilled hole face pointed forward or backward
You mean the one the caliper mounts on?
I mounted mine in front to stay in order with the hose mounts, and so its more protected by frontal rough terain going inside the wheel well.
Yes
Orvis, did you run into any issues with it being on the front?
No issues so far.
Countersunk bolts, Goober
Did you have to buy bigger wheels and tires for these to fit?
yes
@@Orvis25 thanks for the reply. One person said yes another said no so I wasn’t 100% sure but I also have a foreman 400
@@DirtTrailAdventures Ya i bought some OEM rims and tires from someone who upgraded their Forman 500 if i remember correctly.
any 12 inch rims "should" work.
@@Orvis25 My stock fit fine,
@@commanderslag7724 lucky you then? my stock 300 rims would not work.
Is it still holding up with your caliber installed in the front?
Yep. Flawless.
@@Orvis25 ok great! i did the same thing on mine and see all the people saying it needs to be on the rear but can't find any real reason. Even the new rubicons have their disk brake caliber mounted on the front.
@@eh8173 only time will tell i guess. Good luck to us both :P But ya, im with you.
Do the disks stop good?
30-60% better IMO.
Sorry, what is the price of that kit?
I paid over $250 for it shipped (i cant remember)
Caliber goes to the inside
Not the front side
I only got one bolt for my calipers this is ass
Wow to anyone watching this DO NOT follow this guy’s instructions unless you want an unsafe set of brakes on your ATV
And why is it unsafe might i ask? I am 5 years in and have had zero issues.
This guy is clearly not mechanically inclined I don't know what made you think the caliber would go on the front for some reason but that never is the situation calibers go on the back they have always gone on the back to tell me one vehicle where the calipers are on the front
Mine for the last 4 years :)
They are on the front on the newer honda ranchers and foremans. As well as the 400ex, and about 50% of all cars on the road.
