Jay: "Thats the biggest intercooler ive ever seen"
dude: "Thank You"
You should do something on 85 Cadillac bustle back
Zach The Ripper dave hesters son probably
"The sound system is in the motor". I love that. As it should be.
"1650 HP and I want you to use every bit of it."
"Sure, let me just give LAX a call and have them shut down for a minute."
The Mercury Racing 1650 was already sick but the rigging of such a beast under the hood of that car was just amazing. Absolutely flawless welds on both ends of those turbos. Dad and I really enjoyed this great car and video together... My dad isn't doing too good so it was great quality time. Thanks guys.
fla playa Just wanna wish you and your loved ones a lifetime of health happiness and prosperity
Thank you Curtis, really appreciate those thoughts. Right back at you and your family sir.
How’s yo pops doing?
@@sosacarlos He's okay, stabilized as best as possible. Thanks very much, he'll appreciate you all asking and showing some love.
"The engine is the sound system." I fuckin love that. As much as I love music, there is just nothing like the sounds coming off a powerful engine.
AGREED!
Music is for working in the garage the music in the car is the engine
"But I can't hear the music" - Random Ex
who else wants a complete garage tour!
+Luke Bernard That would be like a 10 part series with 1 hour episodes :P
+Alexander Rex Evensen Not if it was just a quick look at each car.
Best possible scenario
+Lastseengaming that's right baby, goddammit
Yes that's a great idea! he can make it a new series
I love the fact that Jay Leno still loves the burnout. He may have gray hair but he's still an 18-year-old inside :)
Just because there's snow on the roof doesn't mean there's no fire in the furnace
To be fair, Jay has had grey hair since he was 18.
The smoke also matches the hair color.
@@robertrichardson9953 wow that actually was a good saying.
@@2007ghettonissanaltima Right?
Best line I’ve heard in awhile....
“The sound systems in the motor”!
👍👍
I love how low it sits.
Even at stock height it’d still be lower than anything built today.
One of the most impressive cars I've seen on this channel. That motor is a work of art.
A 1650 HP speedboat engine in a 70' Charger? That thing is ferocious!!
I laughed at 21:46 when Jay feeds it and starts screaming! The look of fear and concern on the owners face for a second was priceless he even started lifting his left hand up in panic lol.
The level of workmanship is stunning on this thing. it was really apparent when it was up on the lift. Plus, major points for having the balls to stick an offshore racing boat powerplant into this car.
Jay: It have a sound system?
Mr. SpeedKore: It's in the motor.
As it should be
now THAT is how you stance a car!
This honestly is one of the best chargers I've ever seen. In fact one of the best customized cars I've seen, period.
that is the baddest charger I EVER seen! just flawless!
Jay, there is NOBODY than yourself that can make any car test fun. Always nice to watch what ya got. Thanks
Yesterday I farted in a bus and people turned around. Felt like I was in The Voice
This is my dream car. I'm 21 and have no job but I hope to drive this beast once. I don't know how but I'll be a proud owner of a 1970 Dodge charger one day.
Lord funious I love the optimism. 21 and the world hasn't beaten your dreams down yet. Go get em kid!
Job is a great start. Learn some skills. Go to auto tech school for your passion.
Job
Same for me, dreaming to get a 68 some day...
at my age and income I could have got a hemi challanger but I got a Caravan instead.
Jay is a class act ! , he has some of the coolest rarest cars on the planet , and he is cool enough to showcase them .Bravo , Jay is a down to earth car guy that made it through the crazy world of show business . Thanks !
When you fully upgrade a car in forza
How true this statement is..
FACT
I think that car frightened Jay.
+Ken Porter Oh yeah.
Aye
+Ken Porter That car frightened me and I'm watching it on video on the opposite coast! This car is INSANE!
+Ken Porter Haha, yes, he didn't floor it not even once!
+Ken Porter Jay adored the car so much he recoiled at the prospect of damaging it.
First read Channing Tatum😂
+Loris but... Will it do a burnout?
+Antoine Marty definitely
When I was a kid, one of the "dream cars" was the Vector W2, with a twin-turbo Chevy 350. How far we have come.
i see you are man of culture aswell
"sound system is in the motor" love it amen brother!
This is an amazing car! The way cars are built these days is unreal!
What a beautiful piece of machine
That was an amazing car. Thank you to the company that built it.
This is how the new chargers should've looked.
There's a kit that I've seen around lately that converts the new challenger into a retro super bird. I saw a black challenger the other day with the massive super bird spoiler out at Scott AFB, IL, didn't look too bad, LOL. Obviously it was massive and unnecessary but I could definitely appreciate the intent.
Nerolus google concept dodge charger R/T its definitely what the charger should have been
They do a version of the Superbird and Daytona on the new Challenger.
That car looks hideous! Loke a Viper and Corvette had a baby that was born to long!
Maybe if it was a little shorter and a little less fat it could work as a production car. Right now it's too long for my tastes for parking and tight streets near me, lol. Still is one sick machine though.
1650hp is insane. With the boat motor, I thought you guys would be wearing life jackets for the drive.
Probably one of my favorite cars on this show. Wish I had one in my garage.
This guy didn't answer a single question directly.
Hold up.... I may be going crazy but did he say 1650HP?!???? Jesus what a car
Kev Bayotte That propelled a P51 to 435 mph.
Yeah, it's pretty mad.
Also, when you look under the hood, you'll notice stuff like a DOHC configuration, which is _definitly_ not stock !! :D
Yeah, that's what 27 psi of boost gets you thanks to that turbocharger. While I like superchargers because they respond right away, they cannot get anywhere close to that amount of boost. With superchargers and early turbochargers you're talking in the area of 7 psi boost.
Superboat Unlimited class boats run those motors. The 50' cats run 175-180 on the long straights. Twin 1650s.
I don't know of any pleasure boat running quad 1650s. There's a 50' Nortech cat running quad 1350s I'm sure he's right at 200 if not more. I know a guy who owns a 52' MTI cat with twin 1650s he took a pic of his GPS at 185. If he had four he could probly run close to 210.
Mercury just came out with a 1750 motor so the Unlimited race class might get faster next year.
literally a coffin a wheels. I Love it.
Like gwampa Munster's dragster...😈
WOW! ..............Now that's a FREAKING motor!!
That Charger is AWSOME !!!
I love how the engine roars instead of turbo's sound over powering the beautiful motor
Get this car, your neighbors will love you for it !
Maybe my hearing ain't 20/20, but did he just say 1650 hp?
it may not be 20/20, but it's surely 5/7
+John Hardin
A lot of carbon, 1650hp.
Power to weight ratio looks pretty alright x)
+Dhananjay Ringe Wow a perfect score.
+John Hardin I want one of these for my '10 Corolla, lol. ;)
+John Hardin he said 1650, but unless they tuned it, it can only reach that power with 112 octane gasoline, according to the manufacturer. as a daily driver with regular pump gas, it's a sedate 1300 HP :V
This cars an absolute beast! You know its scary fast when Jay says hes scared to lay into it.
Man, this this thing is a dream. Must be nice to be able to create such things...real craftsmanship.
my god, that is the nastiest sounding V8 I've heard in a long time, really awesome engine.
Whats the thought process of putting a Boat Engine in a Car? Where they like "Mhh we have this charger what Engine are we gonna put in it? Well its a Boat so we might as well put a Boat Engine in it."
I was wondering the same thing, but the only answer I can think of is because they bought the biggest motor possible. 9.0l is ridiculous
Because there aren't automotive 32 valve, DOHC big blocks which are designed to make 1600+ HP for hours on end!
+MCMonsterbuilder Well in the video he basically says they wanted to build a car powered by a boat engine. So it seems like they where more like "mmmm we have this boat engine what car big enough to fit it in"
+MCMonsterbuilder because the car is as big as a boat?
+MCMonsterbuilder Mercury sells the engine for automotive use. they meant it for the kit car racing scene, they probably didn't expect to see it in a Charger
Thank you Jay every time you put a big smile on my kid face... in those times i'm just four years old... and i love that ...
That is easily in the top ten best builds I've ever seen....probably in the top 5. The sound is damn near perfect.... So well done!
I love this channel!!! That was the most interesting car I have seen in here.. & I've been watching for a long time now. It's a shame we couldn't see more footage of it on the road & expressway.
They didnt even touch on the most interesting part of the engine! I guess they didnt want to overly promote Mercury Marine and more just focus on the build aspects.. lol.. But the coolest part of that motor is the custom quad cams! dohc on both heads! Amazing head work and design by Mercury Marine to incorporate dohc heads on a V8! Obviously that thing must breathe AMAZING! Kinda like 2 k20 heads on a v8 block! Always dreamed about that! lol.. Awesome stuff.
They call it a quad cam, but that is a bit of a misnomer if you ask me. It is a DOHC on each head. That is still just a DOHC. Or are they trying to say that in a 90 degree V engine layout, the 2 cams on top of the other head are still somehow over the head of the other bank? You have the block, then a head, and then the cams. The cams are over the head, hence the term Over Head Cam. Not over the head and off to the side by 2 feel Cam. That is why Ford calls the mustang engine a DOHC V8. Surprised they haven't jumped on the Quad Cam name bandwagon. They are missing out on the easy money afforded by people who instantly believe more is more. :)
Still an awesome engine.
@ yeah I was jumping to assumptions. They do only state quad cam not QOHC.
@@Power5 .. It fine man, I actually also assumed it was like the same thing as the Ford Modular motor as well, and it shares similarities obviously, but Mercury Marine just took the technology and innovation to a whole new level here and did some amazing work to produce a motor like this that can make 1500whp barely batting an eye lol... Here are the full specs..

OMG !
Had to replay de video .
That thing was loved man ...
Congratulations to Builders , Creators and thanks for sharing this one Jay and Team .
One of the most amazing cars on Jay Leno's Garage.!!!!!!! So much fab and detail.
+Donald Kumler If Jay sold $5.00 or 10.00 raffle tickets with a single grand prize of a tour of his garage some lucky charity would get a ton of money, and one motorhead out there would get a once in a lifetime chance to see the ultimate car collection. This would be a win win.
Outstanding job! Beautiful car!
It's been a very long time since my first glimpse of an engine caused me to make an involuntary noise. Something like "phuagh" in this case. That is pure power porn, and I didn't even know what it was at the time. It just looks utterly, beautifully overpowered.
Jay, that was one of the coolest cars I've ever seen. Didn't like the hood scoope, but the rest of the car was amazing. Thanks for demonstrating it.
I bow down to the craftmanship, and that engine!
OMG ... that things scary! I think I'M IN LOVE ... Thanks Jay
LOL! The dude was supposes to walk off when his partner was called to step into the camera shot, but instead hes lurking around in the back like a castaway! Lmao
Wow...the builder is soooo understated then does a wailing burnout!!!! This build is almost beyond my comprehension, thank you Jay .....Amazing
Absolutely awesome that you got this work of art up on a lift and showed the bottom'.. Thanks for doing that!
My dad still has his GTX with the original 440 in it. Great car
1650 horsepower, with lap belts?? But has a roll cage. Seems legit haha
my dream car right here...favorite cars of all-time, the old chargers...so beautiful
LONG LIVE JAY, The King of cars. Period.
are wisconsin folks irish? what the hell was that irish Accent Jay
+jcoopdo
Yeah, you caught that to.
+jcoopdo There are some irish mostly German
haha
+css46290 that explains it
brin3535 your clearly racist and a bigot il leave it at that
Lap belts? Jesus... you'd think a 5-point harness would be standard.
Why? They may as well put an airbag full of ball bearings in it, as if you hit anything you probably don't want to survive.
The noise ! Woke me up in Brisbane Australia the other night when they were filming ! Sound travels over water albeit The Pacific Ocean !
I like my exotics but this made me smile.
The old Coke bottle Chargers are my favorite car of all time. This thing is incredible! Great Job! Is it for sale????
I like the body except the tail lights and emblem. The original 68-70 Charger rear styling cannot be beat . I also like how there is no sound system .
There is - the exhaust
The taillights on this look to be based on a 1968 GTX. No idea why they went that direction.
Yeah I’m not feeling the taillight
Listening to the two gentlemen that showed the car to Leno and the quality workmanship, the mechanics and fabricators that worked on this , were some of the top of the business !!!!!!!
Its incredible the amount of work and dedication has gone into this car .
I don't know, does anyone else think the light gray grill and taillights thing doesn't look good?
And fixed headlights..
+Ostkreutz Rox
I agree; even though they mentioned it is aluminum, the finish looks like cheap plastic .
Same with some of the interior details .
Not uncommon these days, think Ikea .
It seems to me they took a great looking car shape, and don't quite have the design skills to get the small things right .
And that interior, and the name ...
horsterer77
well thanks man. We forgot to mention the rims, they also don't fit :D The interior is ok though, I get that they went without radio and glovebox, but I would have included that, making that big panel open. But as this is not going to be someone's daily driver, it doesn't really matter.
+Ostkreutz Rox I thought the headlights and grill where terrible, worst part about the car. The tail lights and exhaust where bad too. Then the wheels.
+Ostkreutz Rox , Yeah I'd want hideaway headlights and grill.
Dethmeister
OH YES!!
If it doesn't make Jay scream like a teenage girl when pulling onto the highway it's not exciting enough!
+Mr Everything What areyou talking about ! Jay is scared shitless of that car , it's a fucking 1650hp carbon fibre !!
+die4race I agree :P Mr Everything doesn' t seem to understand what just happened... Jay Leno pissed his pants over pulling a burnout in this one!
+die4race learn to read fool. Thats why he's implying.
+Mr Everything don't have a tantrum
What's up with all these condescending wannabe tough guy comments? Maybe you didn't watch the video yet where he actually pulls onto the highway?
First time I have ever seen Jay concerned about putting the pedal to the metal. That beauty must be a complete beast. Best channel on UA-cam. Thanks Jay.
07:00 to 07:10 ..a perfect example of why I can't watch Jays videos after everyone goes to bed >< you owe me new eardrums Jay!
I definitely think this one scared you Jay. I have never seen you pass on a burn out...
Wish I could buy car like that.
Jay is one of my fav comedians kinda laughing inside when i see him put the car on the lift and start examining it like a kid in a candy store
I cannot tell you how perfect this car is. Even though it has crazy power, these guys still managed to used dials and switches, which, for some reason, has been faded out by cringe screens. I love the wheels, the look, the carbon, the power, the interior, everything. It is just a breath of fresh air to see something done exactly how I would. Seeing someone mod a car but still calling back to the 70s with the dials and gages is just so beautiful. Great work, it embodies everything I would love in a car.
Dom's new ride?
It should be
+Mathew Stephenson Definitely.
I second this plan
No no no this one is the one that will live :D
+MaxTheKanuck fortunatly you will be happy to know that all the cars on the fast an furious are purpose built replicas, Unlike the Dukes of hazzard they dont go around wrecking original chargers.
Jay defo seemed to meet his match power wise. He mentioned at least 4x how he was concerned to tear the rear tires loose.
When Carbon Fiber Meets Muscle Cars: This Madness Happens. What a Outrageous Car. One of the Best Dodge Charger Custom Made
OUCH!!!!... this car is SO BADASS!
Anyone else think of Dominic Toretto when he mentioned Dominic ?
Yep
+Sup Bro
Yeah my first thought was : "Dom wants this car ! "
And now he owns it,.......
@@Wildstar40 well he got it now mate
No.
I get the feeling that thing scares the hell out of you Jay.. You gettin' old on us?
It's /only/ 1650 horse power... lol
SpeedKore is no joke. The 67 Camaro for Chris Evans is their finest build imo.
Jay, this was the first time I have ever seen you genuinely concerned about the explosive power potential under the hood of a profile car. Rightly so. This one is preternatural. It is a work of art, with an Atlas 5 powerplant.
Tell us Jay ..... Is a Tantrum on your List to Acquire ??? maybe at 11-1200 HP it might be more fun to Boot around town with ...Ya Think ? Thank You For bringing this to You Tube, Keep 'em Coming !
NEXT CAR THE REGERA BY KOENIGSEGG JAY PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN
That car is by far , different from my many dreams I've had over the years...
Great looking car, clean build. The understated look is super, interior wellcrafted.
Now we're looking forward to the next edition of the restoration blog!
Well, the Charger is a boat, so it makes sense to put a boat engine in it.
No, charger will eat any jdm cars alive in touge
@@YyouTTubeE sure thing fella
Yep especially when it is eating jdm and supercars alive
While I'm glad there are folks out there like these guys, and they certainly have built something special which showcases their talent, it just doesn't do it for me. I'm a big Mopar fan, but a car that has so much horsepower you can't put your foot down for fear of spinning out sounds like more worry than usable fun. 1650hp is impressive just like 1000hp is but these numbers are getting silly and I have to wonder if they are overcompensating for something? To each their own, and it does look great but not my taste.
GOOD LORD ALMIGHTY!! Not since Phoebe Cates first stepped out of the pool have I been so entranced at a video screen.
OMG, what a beast. Lovely build.
This is one of those episodes where everyone should just shut up and listen to the car. I don't care about what shocks it has. Just rip it up.
S.P. Smith Audio some of us care..
Jaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy this is the Stuff we need to see, love this Beast !
Greats from Germany, we have the German TÜV ... Thinks like that is an no go here :-(
Love Your Garage and go on with the Videos
This episode never gets old. Such a great car.
That car is on a whole nother level!
Isn't the qc4 engine platform based on a big block Chevy?
Pretty much
I wonder what the weight distribution is, probarbly 80/20 xD
+kinger2005 that has overhead cams AND its 9 liter, i mean thats a hell of a strech if its true
+waderedsox whoops i apologize google has just corrected me
+kinger2005 Indeed, it isn't.
You just can't beat dodge!!/Mopar
I'm a Mopar guy, but this basically has a Chevy engine in it.
True
....its a custom made charger look like whit Chevy engine..... but still very intresting
Not really much Dodge left on that car but it's sick
+Mauricio Nuñez there is zero GM junk used under the hood of this car....
Wow....amazing idea, beautiful car!
Sound system is in the motor. Love it!
