I've said it before and I'll say it again: Layne Norton is a national treasure.
In 2010, I gained 10 lbs (mostly fat) during one 18-week marathon training cycle. I simply over-estimated how many calories I needed to take in to fuel my training. 😞
i gained 10lbs of fat in about 2 weeks, i simply underestimated how tasty foreign food was on a holiday.
I gained 10lbs in a month killing hookers every Saturday. I was told juicy deltoid meat was a source of lean protein. I am disappointed.
If fat was that inefficient as a fuel source, then the body wouldn't be so predisposed to storing it. If your body took 5 hours to tap into fat stores, but only 3 minutes to start burning muscle - then your body would be like 'I'm just going to store all these extra calories as muscle'.

I ran my first marathon about 15 years ago and was feed some prime A grade BS like this and got so worried about it I completely over ate carbs leading into the marathon ( including the morning of) and ended up suffering the biggest stitch in the second half that I almost didn’t finish and run about 20 to 30 minutes longer than I think I could of without the stitch.

I am a senior kinesiology student, taking a nutritional course to become a certified nutritionist on the side and my dad showed me this video. As someone who is studying this information and looking a clinical trials in my spare time to get a better understanding, I heard Gary speak and got super confused, I thought I didn't know enough to challenge this but I will research it and confirm my skepticism. Normal people, however, my father, hear this information and take it as truth because Gary says it with such conviction and confidence.

I don't know how then I'm gaining muscle with evening Intermittent fasting and morning hit cardio, so weird, I must be an alien according to that Gary Brecka. In any case, and I will always say regardless the excuses that some people make, it's all about calories in vs calories out for either gaining or losing fat and or muscle, nothing else. And I had to stop my cardio session, because I was burning too much calories vs what I was eating, so now my muscle gains are even better. Best
Don’t forget that gaining muscle is not in and of itself healthy or being fit. Cardio is super important for health and longevity.

Depends. Gary is correct about that information but it only matters if you have a minority genetic defect. So get a genetic test.

I can run upwards of 50 minutes before refueling and even then I don't know how necessary that is. 20 minute glycogen stores would make running so much harder

That Gary Brecka guy, much like his most famous "patient" Dana White of the UFC, gives so much used car salesman vibes it's astounding people actually take him seriously.
i'm not a doctor but i am pretty sure unless you're swimming your body just is not going to let you burn 1600 calories in a work out not because of the calories but because of the immediate impact on your skeletal structure of that much work, your nervous system would just make you extremely weak intentionally to stop you from doing something so stupid.
Thank goodness for Layne for debunking all the fitness nonsense on the Internet, same as Dr Idz, debunking alm the bogus health and nutrition claims by the likes of saladino and others
