Should I Warn My Cheating Ex's New Boyfriend?

- Phillip's ex boyfriend cheated on him for most of their relationship and now he want's to know if he should warn the ex's new boyfriend.

I've dated a compulsive liar and cheater and the best advice I can give is to keep that compulsive liar and cheater in the one place he belongs in your life - in your past. Do not bring him and his crap into your present which means STAY OUT OF HIS BUSINESS. If Phillip, the ex, treats his current the way he treated you, the current boyfriend will find out. Be grateful that Phillip is in your past and you should keep him there.

You're right, Marc; this is a very difficult situation to give advice about. If Phillip sees his ex's new bf on a regular basis and definitely has knowledge of any cheating then he could try talking to the new bf; otherwise, it's best if he puts the ex in the past and lets them deal with their relationship by themselves. Your response is so well thought out and reasonable. I would want more information from "Phillip ". Is the new BF in your social group ? If that is the only reason you'd be communicating with him , then, no. Save it until you had solid proof the EX was back to cheating . Then speak up. Man am I glad to lead my monagmous life when I hear stuff like this . Zero drama from that .
I have been both the CHEATER and the CHEATEE and my best advice would be if Phillip knows his ex-boyfriend's NEW lover really well as a personal FRIEND then he has a duty to warn him and expose the truth about his ex-s infidelity. Otherwise, if Phillip does NOT know the new boyfriend at all then he needs to MYOB and stay out of it as he is NO LONGER involved intimately in the life of his ex-boyfriend and telling this new guy about his misdeeds will only come back to bite Phillip in the rear in the end (so to speak). Hope that helps Phillip. The BEST thing he can do now is MOVE ON with his life and find somebody new for himself.

Working through the advantages and disadvantages carefully then making a decision is the way to go. I personally believe every one comes with some kind of past to a new relationship and its up to others to explore & work their way through them on their on own. There might be others that come along in the future and no one can be there to warn everybody so I would just make the break as early on as possible.

I’m taken aback by your difficulty with this inquiry, Marc. You really are an exceptionally bright and insightful man so I can’t understand your quandary with this. Here’s how it’s simplified: STDs are involved, so tell the new boyfriend. Yes there is debatable ambiguity about telling someone about a pathological cheater, philosophical complexities. But the second any kind of STD is involved, everything else is out the window. Tell him of course!
The ex may not currently have an STD, he was likely treated when Phillip was so there is no imminent risk so it's back to the debate about warning someone about a cheater and the drama that may result from it.

Whatever makes us think he couldn’t be laissez-faire about his new guy? When it comes to these kinds of issues that can in fact be life or death always assume the worst. Maybe that’s not fair to the man, but that changes everything. For me, that’s the deal breaker. I say, Shut up and let him learn about the philandering on his own - EXCEPT when any STD is involved. It’s my philosophy.
I see it almost like a Hamlet-like to be or not to be dilemma where he just can’t come up with a final resolution and keeps on scratching his head, but then he learns that his murderous uncle is actually going over to Ophelia’s home with a weapon. At that point her life could very well be in danger and he just says, Fuck this indecisive shit. I’m going over there and telling Ophelia that he’s a cold blooded monster and she better be careful and run away. Maybe Claudius won’t actually harm her, but Hamlet ain’t taking no chances. A very in -perfect analogy of course, but I think you get the point.

It's time to move on and enjoy your life instead of thinking about his. Yes, it's always good to know, but like Marc said, I wouldn't be able to tell the new boyfriend due to the extra drama this will create in your own life. That is a very complicated situation due to in spite of your good intentions probably the new boyfriend and other friends will see you a the jealous ex but also sometime later you would be the bad guy that did not warn... As I said... It is a very complicated situation.

It's not complicated at all..mind you business. Your ex and his new bf are not your business.
My situation was interesting. After breaking up for the same reasons as Phillip's, I got a call from the one who broke us up (yes, they knew what they were doing) asking me to commiserate and wanted to get into all kinds of details. I simply said sorry, you might have know that taking up with a cheater, you'd also be cheated on. Don't call me again.
I'm for keeping the past the past. I've learned some of the best lessons in life from experiences I never would have chosen but nevertheless those experiences came up in my life and I remember those lessons the best.

He'd definitely come off as a jealous ex. We've all got big egos, the new partner would want to believe he will be different, which would have to mean the ex just wasn't the right person and is angry about it. If he doesn't think that, a lot of the time I feel I have to learn things for myself, so the new guy may be the same.
If you decide to tell him, I'd say to do it passively, or wait until he asks you.

Simply put; Stay Out Of Grown Peoples Relationship!!!! You are not together anymore and whatever he did to you is over. Who knows maybe he changed and seriously loves this other guy. By telling a stranger that you are dating a cheater doesn't help anyone. You are literally ruining the life of that guy. Imagine if they brake up, would you continue to tell to every possible boyfriend of your ex, be careful he is a cheater? Just be happy it's over for you and continue your own life. Forget him and move on, your ex is moving on as well.

I'd be very hesitant about it, even if it was a friend. They can turn it on you and it can bring them closer to the cheater in defiance rather than make them more careful. I'd mention the std though and just encourage general care in whatever they do. If they come asking then give the full honest account.

The baths don't cure boredom. Ironically he got another STD within 6 weeks. Sell the house and that was the past.
