I see so many videos suggesting plants based on harvest time, yield, growing conditions etc, so it's really nice to see videos actually comparing the taste and usability instead. Too many people are growing food they don't actually want to or know how to cook, so thank you :)
WOW - what a GREAT video about pumpkins!!! I have always heard that those pumpkins sold for Halloween are NOT for eating. Great information and YOU impress me assimilating into the USA culture so beautifully!!! GOD BLESS!
The main reason we advise against eating ones sold for decoration is because those are handled differently during shipping, and should be washed... a lot... before cutting into them if you plan on baking or cooking them. Also, if carved, do not leave them exposed to the weather because they will spoil more quickly.
My pumpkins are my pride and joy every year. But we grow them all of the seasons of the year, it is not a seasonal crop for us. Can't wait to hear your take and advice! My only big problem is managing flies.
That's awesome, I start growing them in March myself, we eat them all summer long, in fall and in winter. They keep really well for months after harvest.
This was very educational, some of these verieties l haven't heard of. lt was pretty cool to learn you've been to Australia, l'm in South East Australia. Always love your vids, l've learnt so much, take care and happy gardening.
Thank you for sharing this! I’m always a bit leery when choosing which pumpkins to cook with. I always end up buying a butternut squash instead. I feel more confident now in choosing which pumpkins fit my dishes. Thank you!
I always enjoy your videos and a lot of information you give to us thank you very much my kitten even want some of your pumpkins he was glued to the video when I was playing it
What a cool video! I always try cooking up different kinds of pumpkins after Halloween. They Are So Big! This year I baked & dehydrated a Jarrahdale pumpkin. Yummo. Maybe I will buy some Long Island cheese seeds.
Hi Jag that’s amazing I would like to wish you and your family a belated thanksgiving day I would buy pumpkin because I don’t have space to plant take care bye.
Uncle, try growing Japanese Kabocha pumpkin. Galt isn't that far from San Francisco. They grow great out here in the cool weather. They should grow even better where you have warmer weather.
I grow a lot of jack-o-lantern every year and for the first time ever I'm doing big max and jack be little along with some corn. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Also, fun fact: sugarbelle pumpkins are great for kids if they're starting out carving pumpkins for halloween.
Thank you Jag! As usual you come through. I was looking to find out what type of pumpkin I had when I opened and found a bunch of strings very similar to spaghetti squash. I removed the strings and stir fried them with veggies and a light sauce. IT WAS DELICIOUS!! So now I'll be saving and planting some of these seeds. Do you have any suggestions on the best way to go about doing so? THANKS AGAIN! You are a wealth of knowledge! 🎉🎉🎉
For blander / less sweet types of pumpkin try this: peel the raw flesh, cut it in ~1" cubes and boil them in whole milk sweetened with honey and flavored with vanilla and/or cinnamon for 30 minutes or so (until the cubes get as soft as you like). It's called Moldavian pumpkin soup and you can eat it with a spoon or blend it into a thick delicious "smoothie".
Thank you for this helpful review! I’m wanting to expand the varieties of pumpkin I grow this year and might try a couple of “new” French types (can’t spell or pronounce the names 😆). I’m in the Pacific Northwest and wonder if the Long Island Cheese variety will work here.
Thanks! I was just about to start cooking our pumpkins we grew this summer. For getting the seeds out, for the wheel-shaped ones if you take a knife and cut along the long edge, it makes it a lot easier to pull them out. How long/hot did you choose to roast them for?
Will try, i find it hard to cut these pumpkins then to take the seeds out lol. I roasted at 350F for one hour. I had 3 halves of big pumpkins in the oven placed upside down.
I ordered pumpkin seeds from Botanical Interest online when they were on sale and they just happen to be your top three sweet choices, I am so glad! Thank you for this video! I learned a great deal. Hopefully you can do the same for tomato vatieties next year.
I ordered a packet of pumpkin seeds! But I accidentally put my email as 2922@... instead of 2022@... I'm inspired!! I don't know where to get horse manure but I'll try chicken manure. I was growing them more like zucchini, and not having good luck.
Great video! Nice reminder that there is more to pumpkins than just your typical jack o lantern
I grew jarrahdale for the first time this past season. And it’s all I’m going to grow next year! By far my favorite 🥰
My favorite too! Even though it’s considered a ‘savory’ type it made the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever tasted!

I'm growing the Long Island, Fairy Tale and Winter Luxury this year. Cant wait to taste them!
Awesome video!
I'm glad you wrote the names of the pumpkins because I never would have guessed how to spell Jarrahdale (much like whoever did the close captions)
All your pumpkins look great and I try to grow them.
Thanks for this video it's exactly what I was hoping to find, good work as always Jag!
Every year I buy pumpkins for fall decoration. This video has encouraged me to give them a try instead of throwing them out.

I get a variety of different pumpkins after Halloween and Thanksgiving. I give them to the squirrels!
Awesome, I give them to chickens and my dog as well!
A happiest memorie is watching Lucky Dawg mow into a giant pumpkin!
I've done that for a couple of years now as well. Then I find pumpkin sprouts all over the garden the following year!
I really love your comparison videos. Good luck with your new farm!!!
Thank you!
What a great video. I appreciate the cutting in half and showing the seeds - very helpful

Very interesting video, we enjoyed it! 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for the very informative review. It was very helpful. Typically, how many pumpkins per plant does one get?
About 3 to 4 good ones.

That's Awesome! I am going to give this a try tomorrow! Thanks Vladimir!

My colleage laugh when I said I feel happy to see pumpkins in the garden😁😁😅
Curious ifther3 is any difference in the taste of the seeds when roasted and eaten. Has anyone tried this?
Do you know if the Long Island Cheese is a long keeper?
Long Island Cheese keeps for about 3 months in cool dark and dry place
MashaAllah
How come you are closed?
Because we open from April to Sep.
No fall or thanksgiving. Not everyone lives in America.
I ordered a packet of pumpkin seeds! But I accidentally put my email as 2922@... instead of 2022@...

I got your order, unfortunately I can't edit your email but I will email you directly when it ships
