When I decided to go "electric", 2 people made my decision for me: Alex (I'm no longer 25 and don't have to beat every Ferrari with my Tesla Model S anymore) Guberman and you. Your long reviews in particular really, really cinched it for me. I poured over your posts. Then I ordered the base model in Moonstone gray. About the time the VW chart showed our Pro leaving the factory in Germany, you posted your journey from Jacksonville FL to Fort Collins in the exact same model and color. Your fair reviews are awesome. You did not candy coat the things that come up short on the ID.4. I was left with knowing that the base model Pro was just what I wanted. I had taken one for a drive after devouring everything UA-cam had to offer. I wanted to know just 2 things: what kind of acceleration does the Pro have coming off a green light and how well it accelerates while going 50mph on the highway when I needed to pass another vehicle. Both of these showed me I was making the right choice. Thanks so much for your reviews. Ironically, our Pro has arrived at the Port of Jacksonville and will soon be on its way to us here in Central Florida!
@@Scorpben First ever vehicle with a info screen, so that part is a wee bit of a learning curve. The car itself is just plain awesome. We just drove it to Atlanta from Orlando and back (around 430 mi.) and it performed really well. EA chargers work well, unless you get a dud. 2 charges got us from Atlanta to Orlando. Total charging time was around 80 minutes. That gave us time for chow and restrooms. Absolutely zero regrets with the Pro.
@@thesecond5588 awesome! I have the eGolf currently and still love it except the range. Been looking at the ID4 for awhile and will likely upgrade by the end of the year. How's the free EA charging going? Seems too good to be true!
Thanks this video is super helpful. I'm going to get the Pro S (without gradient package). I want the 19" more efficient wheels, glass roof, black leatherette, and light up front badge. I'm probably the only person that will like the window buttons. I press the rear windows by mistake too often. With this setup that'll never happen.
Wow that’s a good point, I’ve also rolled down the rear window way too many times in multiple vehicles. And I think I’d pick the same trim, I’m just trying to decide if I want to spend the money on the AWD version or put all season snow tires on the RWD version. We can get epic snow up here in northern NY but going RWD with different tires would save me over $2500 and give me better range.
@@JohnSandovalesq I'm also trying to decide on RWD or wait for AWD. I moved from Carthage, NY a year ago. I had a Tesla Model 3 SR+ didn't feel a need for AWD with snow tires. With the AWD in the ID.4 I like that it can tow more.
The Pro S costs $45,000+. You were showing the Pro S w/gradient for $47,000+. I have the Pro S and absolutely love the brown accent color. Each his own. Love your videos !
Good point. I'll have to order one when I get a Pro S. I wonder if a 2" receiver can be installed instead of the 1.25" that comes with the 1st edition.
@@MumstheThird better check into that. I'm Canadian and only the AWD will have a hitch as a factory installed item not available afterwards. May be diff in US though.
Thank you for your reviews! I just ordered an ID.4. I test drove it twice and really liked the way it drove, but so many negative reviews online were making me doubt my decision. Can't wait for it to arrive!
I own a 1st edition. You made a great decision. Check with your local power company if they have rebates on level 2 charging equipment. Here in Snohomish, WA I got like $500 off the charger and a $400 electricity credit.
@@Chan-gt7re mostly about how terrible the infotainment system was. Most of those reviews were from early to mid 2021 though so maybe it got updated between then and when I tried it out. I didn't notice any of the lag or issues they were talking about. Also lots of comments about the sliding buttons but I didn't find those to be annoying either. I did only have 2 hours in the car though :)
@@somethingaboutsoph1439 Oh yeah! I remember the center screen would lag when I swiped left and right quickly. Hopefully the Over The Air (OTA) updates help fix that in the near future. I know the American version of the ID4 is coming out soon from the Chatanooga location. The center console supposedly will be "Americanized" whatever that means. You should do a ID4 review when you get yours!
@@Chan-gt7re mine doesn't lag all the time. Just occasionally. But that's the least of the issues. I get glitches where parts of the car (info screen, driver assists, parking brake) throw errors saying it doesn't work. After parking it for a bit turned off it goes back working just fine. I call it a small annoyance.
i really recommend to check the 2021 Volkswagen id4 top 5 hidden features video, there are some things that many people complain about being complicated but its just in easy shortcuts and tricks
I’m seriously thinking of the id4 awd. And comparing trim, I’m not sure the $4.5k premium for the pro s is worth it. The pro seems to be a much better value
Thank you. After experiencing 110F summer weather, I won't go for any car with glass roof eventhough the ID4 comes with the screen, it's still too hot! The Pro is definitely in my shopping list😁
This is also the reason I prefer cloth seats to leather or pleather seats. I live in Phoenix. It makes it a lot more comfortable in the summer in my experience.
Pro is our choice too with the cars getting way too hot in California sun, specially with the Black leather Seats. I could not justify paying $5k more for the Glass and 2 inches of the infotainment which would be largely useless with Carplay.
Fact! The glass just does NOT keep the heat out. Same situation on my 2014 Touareg Lux TDI, vs the 2013 Touareg Sport TDI with the hard top. The hard top stayed much cooler, every single time.
Thanks, Kyle. I'm getting a 1st Edition in a few weeks. Was lucky to find one. One thing you didn't mention is that the 1st Edition is the only model that has a trailer hitch (until the AWD becomes available). We need it for our bike rack.
I like the ID. 4 . Test drove the 1st Edition and loved it. I am waiting for my lease to be up. Also waiting for the all wheel drive. I currently have the Tiguan R-line SEL.
I love VW, but I wouldn’t call the ID.4 a breakthrough. There’s a lot that needs to be fixed and Electrify America has a serious shortage of charging stations and reliability issues. It’s also super annoying that for $50K for a fully loaded ID.4 you don’t get surround cameras or heads up display. This is a compact car with a very low rent interior, so-so range, and not great charging times. The least they could do is offer it with all of the features you’d get in other similarly priced vehicles. It’s frustrating that less expensive ICE vehicles get more equipment, feel more premium and offer more space relative to their cost than the ID.4. The charging rate is also middling at only 125kW. EV6 and Ioniq 5 are going to be true breakthroughs with their 800V charging architecture enabling 80% charges in under 20 minutes vs. 40 minutes in the ID.4. That extra time charging quickly adds up on a road trip.
@@CFG39 Yeah hopefully 800V chargers become the norm. That would bring EVs to parity in terms of road tripping with ICE cars. The ID4 is kind of the appliance EV and it does a good job of being that.
@@maruthi70 honestly if you want an EV, the only one I’d buy is a Tesla today because of charging infrastructure. However, in 3-5 years from now, I believe we will see CCS chargers plentifully built out across North America. So, then I would consider other EV vehicles. My only complaints with Teslas are that they don’t have real blindspot monitoring, no cross traffic detection (lack of radars), and no available surround cameras. If they added those things I would literally trade in my Model 3 today and buy a new one. Model 3 LR AWD is really hard to beat for an all around vehicle. It’s so much more efficient than Model Y in the real world if you go with the 18” wheels and Michelin MXM4 tires. You’ll be able to go more than 300 miles on a charge at highway speed which is impressive.
I live in Denmark and I just bought a slightly used 2021 Pro Performance Tech. It has that brown leather and suede interior. I thought it looked bad on the photos, but seeing it in real life I actually like it. Your videos has helped me a lot in learning about my new car.
I currently have a reservation for an AWD Pro S w/ Gradient in Moonstone Grey. Very excited. From photos at least I feel like I am going to really like the brown interior accents. Overall I think the interior is much better looking than my father-in-law's Model Y. Hopeful that the infotainment system gets better with the upcoming OTA update.
I picked up a 1st Edition on Saturday without a reservation. Glacier White with light gray interior, it's a great car imho and the massaging seats ...omg I love that. Heading out this Saturday on an 8,000+ mile road trip in it.
@@RonRattie Thanks...I want to lease one ..because in 3 years the technology is definitely gonna change...Enjoy it..I test drove one and was really impressed..1st edition or pro is the way to go
Great video. Watched your road trips as well. You are turning out one of the best car reviewers on UA-cam. I think the ID4 has two big issues: no frunk and the software problems. I personaly like it's sibling, the Skoda Enyaq more. It's also the better value.
Yep! Moonstone Grey! We just picked up a pro in that color yesterday. I was worried we were missing out by getting the base model, but it really does seem to be better in several ways. Only thing we wish it had was a power liftgate... and that sunroof 😍.
How cool would it be for the huge glass roof to have the frontal portion as an open sunroof portion to the entire structure. I like all the large glass roofs on cars these days but I am so used to having an opening of moonroof and I'm not ready to give that up.
You are the best car reviewer on the internet. The way you explain things is very helpful for an average person like myself. Thank you.If i ever buy an Id4 or any EV, That would be because of your reviews.
Kyle - when I'm touring in any car I carry a small icebox on the passenger's seat with an ice brick to have a ready supply of cool drinks, that might even include that pink stuff you get from Starbucks. While you need breaks for refreshment you then don't have to go looking for a supply. Love your work.
I've had VW's since 2002. First a 2002 Jetta GLX VR6 and since 2013 a CC Sport with the 2.0T. Love them both so I really want to love the ID.4 but I think I seriously leaning toward the Ioniq 5 AWD. But I haven't been in either one of them yet so who knows at this point which one I'd actually like better. Thanks for the video
You highlighted all of the reasons I purchased the Pro. I could not find any differences other than cosmetics. Thanks for confirming my personal choice.
Not much about the "electric car" stuff. What charging options come with the car for level 1 and level 2? Cable(s), connectors, charge rate. Any difference between models? What DC charging rates between the models? Any difference. Any battery preconditioning? How viewable is both battery percentage and guess of range available? Nice work on regular car comparisons.
I just purchased the Moonstone Gray ID.4 Pro yesterday and I'm loving it. My friend got the 1st edition, and a big feature that it includes is a 1 1/4" hitch receiver. It's not clear to me if there is going to be a path to upgrade the Pro to have a hitch soon. Whenever it comes, it will be a matter of changing out the whole back bumper crash bar, because that's how the hitch mount is attached. If my local part man at my dealer is right (and I'm not sure if he is), VW only has a hitch upgrade for the AWD model and not the RWD. But given that the 1st Edition includes the hitch, I'm sure a path will open up eventually. A few other things the Pro is missing: * no ski pass-through... * ...which means there are no cup holders in the back seat (unless you put bottles in the door pockets) * the side view mirrors don't fold in automatically * no buttons to program to open my garage door opener * no compass in the rear view mirror I think Kyle hit all the other differences in this video. The 19" wheels don't feel like a big compromise to me--I like them and I'm happy if they extend my range a bit. The $40K price for the base is a huge deal for me and puts my value-detector into full tilt. At that price, I feel like safely bought 3 years of time to see how things evolve. I could see myself driving this Pro till the wheels fall off, but at this price I don't think I'll be in bad shape trading it in in 3 years if the spirit moves.
Thanks, I also ordered this. Waiting patiently. Really wish it had garage door opener built in, pass through, and hitch. I’d pay another thousand for that, but not 4-5k.
Bought a PRO S gradient, and totally loving it. The LEVEL 2 adaptive cruise is killer, just wish it didn't have a conductive steering wheel requiring you to reconnect/touch it every so often to prove you're not sleeping. Small deal though. I've owned the 1st edition e-Golf which was fun but not equal in any way to the iD4. I've been driving a VOLT Premier 2017 with adc for the past 6 years and really thought it was the most amazing car, truly loved it. The iD4 surpasses the Volt in many ways. Buy and enjoy, however be warned.....once you go EV, you can never return to ICE, once you go Adaptive Cruise, you can never be without it, once you go Travel Assist, you can never be without it. Awesome car.
Thanks Kyle for the review and answering my question about the Pro seats! The Sales Rep at a Stevens Creek VW dealership in San Jose was telling me stories why the Pro did NOT have heated seats!! I kept asking are you SURE and he kept saying YA! They also were charging $3,000 dollars over MSPR for ID4s which caused me serious pause or I would have been conned to buy a Pro S..
This is my first time watching one of your review videos. I enjoy your personality and the way you present. Keep up the good work. FYI I appreciate the fact that your review isn't in a noisy environment, All to often, I see review with loud road noise.
I wonder what the service maintenance needs/plan would be for the first 3 yrs, like all other new cars. Of course, no more oil changes and without an engine, no 15,000 mile service like we know. I don't know at the moment what the service needs at the dealer would be at this point except a typical burnt out light bulb or a tire rotation or a fix like a sudden faulty seat belt, etc
Very helpful, thanks! Still wondering if I should wait and spend more on the AWD versus getting a 2WD sooner and cheaper -- though both versions have yet to arrive here in Vancouver).
Just got my 1st edition white exterior/lunar grey interior a few days ago. $45,300. A blast to drive. Many issues at first though.. no charger was included, the dealership forgot to put it back in the car(it was a demo), and I'm 80 miles from the dealership and now waiting on them to ship it. Then I had a flat tire the morning after I bought it, a nail.!! had to go to les schwab who fixed it for free :)... then opening the back/hatch when my garage was open with not enough room put alittle ding in the top/hatch of my brand new id.4 !!... then I went to charge at electrify america and all but one worked out of 8 chargers .. had to wait for another car for an hour cuz I only had about 5 percent since I didnt' have the home charger. And when I charged it cost me .43 cents a killowatt cuz the dealership took there sweet time sending my enrollment code for the app for free charging. OTHER THAN THAT.. it's great :) Hopefully now I get to enjoy it.
We got the Pro S in Dusk Blue without Gradient. I agree the First Edition is the best deal, but the white steering wheel was really a deal breaker for me. I also wanted the 19" wheels, and I think the black roof trim on the Pro and Pro S looks nicer than the silver. For $4,500 for the Pro S over the Pro, you get: Available in Dusk Blue Hands free liftgate Power folding mirrors with memory Glass roof Lighted grille and logo Projector headlights with all weather cornering lights. Bigger infotainment screen Leatherette seats, 8 way adjustable w/ memory, lumbar, and massaging. For $1,500 for Gradient added to Pro S, you get: Available in Kings Red (+$395) 20" wheels Silver roof rails and roof trim Black roof
@@tonys9413 The acceleration from 50 to 70 for entering highways or from 65 to 75 for passing, etc., is really good. It's not going to blow your socks off, or beat something like a Model 3, but it's more than enough and still feels quick. When you get a chance to test drive one, definitely take it on a highway to see for yourself.
I’m so annoyed with the brown interior with the black seats. I love the black seats over the light gray, but the brown is tacky in my opinion. The ID.4 is my dream car. I’m living for your coverage of the ID. 4.
Thanks for the great detail. We should be getting the ID4 next year. It will be first value for money family EV in South Africa. At the moment we only have the iPace, Tycan, i3, XC40 Recharge and MiniE. But they are very expensive, even compaired to other EVs.
You have a new SUB! GREAT informative video to say the least. I'm out here in Southern CA, my HOV decals just expired at the end of December and are not eligible for any type of renewal. So I pre- sold my '17 VOLT back in Early December, and had to give it up 3 days ago thinking I would have gotten my Tesla M3 by now, unfortunately Tesla has pushed back the the delivery date twice already, now back to February-March. Hearing from folk's who recently took possession of Tesla's the QC is lacking big time, mainly panel gaps and poor interior work amongst other things. I have owned a Passat & 2 two GTI in the past, all were great reliable cars. So I'm seriously looking at these ID 4's which would get me HOV access for 5 more years. Going this weekend to test drive one at a local Dealer. Thanks again for sharing this video
Great video! Does the Base Model look a bit bigger then the 1st and Pro S? The Pro looks like an SUV and is a good looking vehicle, the other look a bit more Sedan or is that the angle?
Great overview, Kyle. I've had my 1st since March and I adore it. I'm not a fan of the brown either. Was I mistaken, or was there a compass in the mirror on the S?
There may have been. That was the first thing I purchased. VW offers it as an add on. I bought it and had it installed at the dealership. It has compass and homelink. To me, $400 very well spent!!
The glass roof was a deal breaker for me, so I went to the Pro base model. In 2022, from the factory in the USA, it's going to be $4k cheaper, but will have less features (I am guessing a smaller battery, but I can be wrong) and. At least, that's what I took from an official VW video on UA-cam. I enjoyed watching the trip from FL to CO to see how the Pro handled for you as well as some real life charging issues when you travel long distance. Thanks for confirming that I made the right choice.
Will be interested to see how the AWD version compares when it hits the US early next year. The extra ~$4,500 hurts, but hopefully the extra 100 HP and AWD is worth it?
So how is the screen lag one year later? I've seen reviews where it was quite terrible in the beginning, as in people touching a button 5 times and it still doesn't respond.
It is moonstone...I have the id4 pro in that same one moonstone its sooooo smooth and quite. The dealership totally sucked in handling my lease total sharks. But the car is great. A bit of an issue with the id4 light ...but still love it.
Yeah .. I ended up purchasing because the darn dealerships wouldn't even come close to the 3500 down /379 a month that's on the vw website. I ended up getting a 1st edition for 45k . They wanted 2500 down and 627 for a 36 month lease/12k miles on the pro s. If you don't mind sharing what did you get yours leased for?
Ya, shitty, like the clothe interior I had when I bought my 1981 Jetta diesel coupe brand new. They will tear and stain easily, just like in the 2015 -2019 e-Golfs. Don't eat or spill or put children in your ID.4 Pro model, the seats will be stained forever.
Great video. You lamented that the 21” wheels will not be available here in the USA. However, bigger wheels usually means less rubber, pothole vulnerable tires & wheels, and a less compliant ride. As an old-timer I would prefer the plusher ride with fewer flats and bent wheels.
I prefer 19 inch wheels and no glass roof with power driver seat and awd. Good review. I'm also considering the Ioniq 5. Next spring will be my time of purchase.
Based on this video and the road trip in ID.4 I ended up leasing a Grey ProS this past Monday. Put in a reservation the Friday before and the dealer ended up getting the same specs in that day. So far so good!
I tried getting a lease but it ended up being way more than the advertised 3500 down and 379 a month for 36 months.. i know the Pro S should be a bit more but if the car costs 10 percent more it should be about 4000 down and and $420 a month.. They quoted me 2k down and 625 a month. I also have an 800+ credit score so that wasn't an issue. If you don't mind sharing what did you get your's for? Maybe I was getting shaken down by the dealership. I eneded up purchasing a 1st edition for 45k
@@tri0xin I did $4,000 down, $450 a month 36 months with 10,000 miles a year. First time ever doing a lease so not totally confident it's the best deal but I did not want to pay $600 or $700 a month purchasing. With so many other EVs coming out, I definitely want to try others out in the years to come.
@@maruthi70 if you haven't already gotten your car I recommend just making sure the $7,500 comes out of the total and there are no additional add-ons or up charges.
Hoi Great Video and Review. I bought an ID4 1st édition Max in France and have it si ce one month. Great car I live it and after driving ICE Cars since so many years its is so relaxing and quiet to cruise on the Highway with Travel Assist and geting your back massages 👍
Interestingly the base model looks nice. 19" wheels are beautiful & efficient as well. The front looks clean. The side profile without the chrome decor is actually brilliant - it gives it that cool floating roof effect.
I’m leaning toward the AWD option in Canada with no extras. The optional package is 8,000 here in Canada and there are really only three things that look appealing the roof, the massaging seats and the ski pass through. We have had issues with our current VW sun roof, so I’m not fully convinced it’s a good option even if beautiful.
I would go for the base model. I have a Tesla model S and the big roof window is ok, but in Arizona, I put aftermarket screens on them. I haven't tested this car, but i did test the Polestar2 which has no screens and you can feel the heat coming through. you mentioned that it's a little bit quiter too, that's a bonus. On long trips, the back seat passengers take a nap anyway. I don't need a play or pause pedal, but I am sure those will be available after market. I would like a trailer hitch for a bike rack.. that's about it. That's a great deal and if it was available 3 years ago, I would have bought it. For now, i am .. well maybe a little bit stuck in my model S. 109,000 miles, most everything has been replaced under warranty it drives like new, has the new MCU2 and gets more range.(and just last week it got a new heart/drive unit under warranty still) so, I am sticking with my 7 year old car
Kyle's taste is a bit questionable. I hate the white gimmicky trim of the 1st edition. I just leased an ID4 Pro S with the saddle brown and black interior. It's a beautiful look IMHO. I put $2000 down and pay $500 a month on a 48 month lease. I've had the vehicle for one day now, drove it from Los Angeles to Palm Springs and it was amazing. It was especially great when I hit some traffic and the car practically drove itself. Love this car, and I'm coming off a full size Range Rover HSE! I couldn't deal with the 14mpg 70 mile trips every few days into the city from out near the Big Bear mountains area. I was spending $300 - $400 in gas every month with that commute.
Very happy with my UK spec 1st. Edition, sits somewhere between your 1st and Pro (no glass roof or power boot). Are you sure the driver assistance is same across range? Mine has just lane assist (bounce off lines) whereas traffic assist is on higher specs (holds center of lane).
1st edition owner here. One thing to keep in mind is that those Bridgestone Allensas in the higher trims costs ~$330 to replace. Couple of costly nails.
I drove the 1st edition and it was fine but felt sluggish and had heavy steering, I am hoping when the AWD version comes out it the steering feels lighter and maybe a bit peppier. Does the passenger side front seat have adjustable lumbar support? Thanks for the video.
Hey Kyle any word from VW on id4 auto brake hold? Im seriously comparing id4 to ioniq5 and its major deciding factor. When are you scheduled to review ioniq 5?
I have a white version of the first edition and me, my wife and the kids all love it. We turn heads everywhere we go. We’re hoping the id3 will come to the US so we can trade our Jetta for the id3.
Kyle, Thanks very much for all your great videos! I've learned a lot about EV's from watching. I'm very interested in the ID4 Pro. However current pricing in Salt Lake City at local dealerships is $2000 over VW's MSRP. I'll be waiting a bit to see what pricing looks like after inventory increases. Hopefully pricing will be a little better. Also of note -- not sure this was mentioned, but the $7500 credit will only be applied when you lease the ID4, not if you purchase one, In that case you apply the tax credit at time of your tax return. As I understand it, it will only reduce the taxes that you owe, so for many that will mean a lot less than $7500. You don't get a check for the balance from the IRS. At least that is my understanding. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, one salesperson at a local dealership gave me a ballpark figure of monthly payment for a 4 year lease of more than $500. That would be a no-go for me. I think you mentioned, Kyle, in one of your videos a monthly payment of $300 plus dollars which would seem more inline and more affordable. Anyway, I having grown up in Germany and having learned to drive there with Dad's VW Beetles, I have a soft spot for VW and German Cars in Genera, especially Porsche-- but can't afford one of those either! Cayman is a favorite. Currently driving a 2017 Alltrack. Great Car. Anyway, the ID4 seems like it would be the perfect EV for me if and when I can afford one. BTW, those brown interior panels in the Pro S looks really funky to me. Wouldn't buy one of those for that reason alone. I really like the large sunroof on the ProS. Have that on our Alltrack, though on the Alltrack it opens up. Thanks again and keep up the great work. A question: have you heard anything from Electrify America as to when then might build charging stations on I-80 in Wyoming? That is a route we travel a lot living here in Utah. Seems like a big hole in their network! Thanks again!
I have owned the Pro S since May 4. This is my 4th EV and by far my favorite. I drive no more than 70 on the highway. I've been on one trip with it. So far I'm getting about 280 range. Great car! You're first review videos of the ID.4 helped me choose between that and the Model 3 (which my husband already owns).
So, if I wait until September of next year, I can have the ID.4 made in the USA, and if Congress passes the proposed EV bill, the base model is about $27,000, not including state and local incentives!
The base model is $39k not $27k. There is already a $7500 federal tax incentive on the iD.4, plus $2000 State tax incentive. Some States like California will also qualify you for an additional $5000 grant.. I think congress will pass another EV incentive Bill, but I am sure if the credits will be as large as the current incentives. Its best to take advantage now while you can.
@@mamadouaziza2536 So, if you can get the base model for $39K, subtract the $7500 Federal Tax Credit, and if the Federal deal goes through, another $2500 off for being made in the USA and another $2500 off for being made by US Union Workers, you get $27K. This does not include the state incentives. That is if you can wait until September of next year when the Tennessee plant starts up production. That said, I don't know if they will still be offering the 3 years of free EA charging. That may well add up to a few thousand dollars of you plan on a number of extended trips, or are Kyle.
@@mamadouaziza2536 I live in Missouri. That means no state incentives. Worse though is that we don't have the selection of EVs that some states offer. As of now, my choice is the Tesla, Mach e, and ID.4. If the charging infrastructure for EA were better, I would opt for the ID.4. We tend to take long trips to several areas of the US where there is little to no charging stations. Case and point, we are planning to go to Williamsport, PA next year for the LLWS. There are level 2 chargers there, but the nearest fast charger is about 50 miles away. The Model Y will be our purchase later this year. Hopefully with a new bill passed and with the Austin factory up and running.
Does the ID4 have an app? If so can you control the AC before you get in the car. I have driven the 1st edition and if you leave the car,it shuts the car off. Is that only 1st edition?
Appreciate your honest reviews on the ID4. Unlike the old guy who constantly bash the ID4. I’ve owned many VW/Audi and my current ride is the 1st Edition. Happy with it 👍🏼
Hi. Great comparison!! I just received my 1st Edition 1 month ago as I originally ordered a PRO S W GRADIENT PACKAGE Moonstone Gray and I was becoming inpatient So I took the 1st edition and I enjoyed my 1st Edition ID4 so much that I received a call last Friday from my VW Dealership that my PRO S w Gradient Package Moonstone Gray just came in so I enjoyed my 1st Edition so much I Purchased my PRO s w Gradient Package Moonstone Gray. So yes now I have Qty 2. Id4. Yeah. Basically the 1st Edition & My PRO s w Gradient Package are the same vehicles and options except for a few differences like the PRO s w Gradient Package comes with the VW Emblem lit up. and my 1st Edition comes with a Trailer class 1 hitch. So very few differences but. Again 1st Edition is basically the same as a PRO s w Gradient Package. And the 1st Edition is about $1,000 cheaper and you get all the same options as the PRO S w Gradient Package Excellent deal

Hey! How long did it take for your ID4 to be delivered?
@@Scorpben I'm thinking 60 days.
How's it been so far since you received your ID4?
Same configuration here -Silver .
Same! Ordered one in the blue!
I press the rear windows too often as well. I'm getting a moonstone id4 pro s awd
I like the brown accent altho I actually would prefer the all brown tbh. Wish they had that option.
One thing Kyle didn’t mention. The 1st Edition also comes with a toe hitch which the Pro and Pro S do not.
Yep but not the ball or the wiring package, available for order through the service department.
@@MumstheThird Hitch is not yet available as an aftermarket accessory through VW, and I can't find it anywhere else yet
@@mlb10384 I saw it in an accessories booklet that the service department handed me.
In NJ, there is $8000 difference between Pro S and Pro because of NJ EV Rebate, $5000 for base model vs $2000 for Pro S
Nice! I’m about to order one as well. What were the negative reviews talking about? Now I’m curious!
I finally settled and locked in the base model after your road trip. This just makes me feel that much better about my decision. Thank you
i really recommend to check the 2021 Volkswagen id4 top 5 hidden features video, there are some things that many people complain about being complicated but its just in easy shortcuts and tricks
I am thinking of getting the base model as well. Do you recommend financing or lease. I like to keep cars for a long time- 15 to 20 yrs. Thank you.
I drove our Tesla Y last week from TX to FL. You are right, the roof was hot but not too bad with the AC on.
Yep. This is the biggest reason I ordered the base model.
Thanks, Kyle. I'm getting a 1st Edition in a few weeks. Was lucky to find one. One thing you didn't mention is that the 1st Edition is the only model that has a trailer hitch (until the AWD becomes available). We need it for our bike rack.
Great video Kyle. Also of interest, although these 3 models aren’t AWD they are all standard Rear Wheel Drive!
I like the ID. 4 . Test drove the 1st Edition and loved it. I am waiting for my lease to be up. Also waiting for the all wheel drive. I currently have the Tiguan R-line SEL.
Find out how much it is to get out of the lease. I have a year left but the dealer will buy my car back for how much I paid for it.
The VW ID4 sounds like a breakthrough product in the EV market. I am interested in your review of the All wheel drive version later this year.
@@CFG39 Hello F C, Thanks for sharing honest review. What do you suggest?
Glass roof and bigger screen would be the winner for me when looking back in a couple of years of driving.
And AR HUD and heatpump, 3D rear lights, and more. All in Europe. Need that in US.
I think 15 inch screens should be standard.
Were you able to any kind of discount on the in stock ID4?
@@ronfladell5648 no, but they didn't add any markup either.

@@impitt28 I didn't order it, but the dealer didn't mark it up either.
Dont worry about that. All a bunch of gadgets that you wont need to worry when they break down.
I agree. I especially love watching videos where he is bombing through a canyon.
Very useful review. The ID 4 looks very promising but I’m going to wait a year or two to get a better sense of the moderately priced EV landscape.
Me too BUT waiting for the pricing
Thanks Kyle for a great overview of the cars... My choice is the GTX which is landing here in DK mid august.
You highlighted all of the reasons I purchased the Pro. I could not find any differences other than cosmetics. Thanks for confirming my personal choice.
The rear window and seat heater button tricks are crucial. Thank you for the great content!
A few other things the Pro is missing:
* no ski pass-through...
* ...which means there are no cup holders in the back seat (unless you put bottles in the door pockets)
* the side view mirrors don't fold in automatically
* no buttons to program to open my garage door opener
* no compass in the rear view mirror
I think Kyle hit all the other differences in this video.
Love that grey man. I'm a British hence the 'e' in grey lol.
Thanks, I also ordered this. Waiting patiently. Really wish it had garage door opener built in, pass through, and hitch. I’d pay another thousand for that, but not 4-5k.
Garage door opener is a dealer installed option on all trims ($325)
I got the Pro model and I'm loving it! Your videos were very helpful. Thanks!
Anything Stevens creek sucks! All of those dealerships have ridiculous markup and scamming people
awesome breakdown Kyle. doing another test drive this weekend. that moonstone grey is probably what i am going to order.
I have purchased a 1st Edition ID4 - Love it
We got the Pro S in Dusk Blue without Gradient. I agree the First Edition is the best deal, but the white steering wheel was really a deal breaker for me. I also wanted the 19" wheels, and I think the black roof trim on the Pro and Pro S looks nicer than the silver.
For $4,500 for the Pro S over the Pro, you get:
Available in Dusk Blue
Hands free liftgate
Power folding mirrors with memory
Glass roof
Lighted grille and logo
Projector headlights with all weather cornering lights.
Bigger infotainment screen
Leatherette seats, 8 way adjustable w/ memory, lumbar, and massaging.
For $1,500 for Gradient added to Pro S, you get:
Available in Kings Red (+$395)
20" wheels
Silver roof rails and roof trim
Black roof
How do you feel about acceleration 50-70 mph entering a highway. Do you think the AWD (90 hp more) is needed.
The headlights on the First Edition and Pro S turn when you turn the steering wheel like my BMW did.
They do and it's an awesome feature when driving down roads flanked by woods at night.
But no 3D rear lights, heatpump, or AR HUD.
True, but even without those things the car is a great car.
@@RonRattie Oh I do agree.
Thanks Kyle for the upload.
I’m so annoyed with the brown interior with the black seats. I love the black seats over the light gray, but the brown is tacky in my opinion. The ID.4 is my dream car. I’m living for your coverage of the ID. 4.
My sister ordered the ID4 GTX in Europe.
Thanks for the great detail. We should be getting the ID4 next year. It will be first value for money family EV in South Africa. At the moment we only have the iPace, Tycan, i3, XC40 Recharge and MiniE. But they are very expensive, even compaired to other EVs.
I bought a used first edition today and I love it. I wanted the white steering wheel. It’s unique.
If I didn’t live in a state where it snows a lot, I’d already have a first edition.
Great video! Does the Base Model look a bit bigger then the 1st and Pro S? The Pro looks like an SUV and is a good looking vehicle, the other look a bit more Sedan or is that the angle?
This is a fantastic and informative video. Thank you Kyle!
Great overview, Kyle. I've had my 1st since March and I adore it. I'm not a fan of the brown either. Was I mistaken, or was there a compass in the mirror on the S?
I noticed that as well
There may have been.
With the Texas summers, the glass roof is a no-go for me. I ordered the Pro AWD because of this.
Will be interested to see how the AWD version compares when it hits the US early next year. The extra ~$4,500 hurts, but hopefully the extra 100 HP and AWD is worth it?
The ID4 AWD is the one I was most considering but the Mach-E and Kia EV6 are in the running.
So how is the screen lag one year later? I've seen reviews where it was quite terrible in the beginning, as in people touching a button 5 times and it still doesn't respond.
Pro S (no gradient package) is my choice
I ordered ID 4 Pro with an all-wheel drive train looking forward to delivery.
Hi, are the base model ID.4 Pro reflector LED headlights bright? How do they compare against the projector LEDs in terms of visibility? Thanks!
I have the Pro, and the lights are bright. I’m not sure how they compare to the Pro S, but way better than other cars I’ve owned.
how can you get a white steering wheel on the vw online configuration? Which trim is the white steering wheel on?
The base model seats are like in all VW's since about 2010.
Hope you will be doing a test review between id4 vs Aubi Q 4 E Tron.... Interested in both!
I prefer 19 inch wheels and no glass roof with power driver seat and awd. Good review. I'm also considering the Ioniq 5. Next spring will be my time of purchase.
I have the ID4 Pro. Fantastic car and has everything we need. 😊
Based on this video and the road trip in ID.4 I ended up leasing a Grey ProS this past Monday. Put in a reservation the Friday before and the dealer ended up getting the same specs in that day. So far so good!
Wow. Nice. Am planning to do same. Any feedback or recommendations? 😀. Please let me know. Thanks for your time In advance.
Hoi Great Video and Review. I bought an ID4 1st édition Max in France and have it si ce one month. Great car I live it and after driving ICE Cars since so many years its is so relaxing and quiet to cruise on the Highway with Travel Assist and geting your back massages 👍
Great video. Thanks. I ordered my pro s and think I’ll change it to the pro. Very well done video. Thanks again!
Great review went with a bass pro because liked it through this review
Picked up a pro s yesterday. Nice car.
Pro s for me! Thank you! I learn a lot with the video!
Is the ambient lighting available also in the base model? It appears to be from the video which is cool.
Yes!
I drove the 1st edition and it was fine but felt sluggish and had heavy steering, I am hoping when the AWD version comes out it the steering feels lighter and maybe a bit peppier. Does the passenger side front seat have adjustable lumbar support? Thanks for the video.
Yes, the front passenger seat has all the same controls as the driver seat including the massage function. I have a 1st edition and I love it. 😊
What is a gradient package?
which one has turning headlights?
Hey Kyle any word from VW on id4 auto brake hold? Im seriously comparing id4 to ioniq5 and its major deciding factor. When are you scheduled to review ioniq 5?
This was a much needed video. Thank you!
Maybe a silly question but how did you get the air to stay on while you exited?
I ordered a awd id4 pro s if I ever get it?
Did you check the version of infotainment system software to see if it was the reason for lag on the First edition and Pro S .vs. the base Pro?
Hey just wanted to ask if the head up display is available in the US? Because here in Europe you have the option to add one.
Not available in US.
@@tresapickup3113 is head up display allowed in US?
@@Foersom_ Yes, buy an Audi e-Tron Prestige model.
I have a white version of the first edition and me, my wife and the kids all love it. We turn heads everywhere we go. We’re hoping the id3 will come to the US so we can trade our Jetta for the id3.
Can you do s video for the 2023 ID4 trims
I was told that for eV with the hp, you want an AWD. Is this right? I just reserved a pro with AWD and not sure if I want to spend the extra 5K.
Kyle,
Thanks very much for all your great videos!
Awesome review. I am sooo looking forward to the ID4 coming to Canada 🇨🇦
10:56 "Very little lag" as the screen does not populate. Great review though.
does the base version have GPS, looks like this was the lagging cause with it was loading maps, or the base have GPS???
So, if I wait until September of next year, I can have the ID.4 made in the USA, and if Congress passes the proposed EV bill, the base model is about $27,000, not including state and local incentives!
minus - $ 7.500 Federal tax credit and 3 years free charging. And in the end it will turn out the same.
@@id.4evker628 ?
Happy with it 👍🏼
The funny thing about that bashing is his referring to it as a taxi - reliable, good build quality, long lasting.
What's bad about that?
@@TKevinBlanc Nothing at all.
@@TKevinBlanc and thats exactly what I am looking for a rideshare vehicle to replace my Bolt..so for me , yep the ID 4 looks good.
I like kings red metallic color which version it falls in ??
Pro S + gradient
No matter what, The Charging curve of ID4 is excellent as much as the German driving dynamics.
The PROS has a little extra trim (from the badge) running onto the front door. Just minor visual difference but looks good to me.
Why are so many features missing on the North American ID4?
Do i have to get it brand new to get free charging or can I get it as second owner?
Only 1st owner’s get free charging.
