If the signing seems fast you are encouraged to first study the lessons at www.Lifeprint.com and then come back and watch the video. Sarah is an actual ASL student. Hello ASL Heroes!!!
    Hey, if you are in a position to, I could really use your help.
    If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you.
    A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com.
    Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!”

    Thanks!
    - Dr. Bill

    Take care and love to you all.

      Hey Mr. Bill!!! so, I saw when you do 1/2, you do 1 then 2, does that rule apply for 3/4? would I just sign 3 then 4? I was just figuring out how to sign how tall I was because I'm 5.3 and 3/4

      I'm pretty sure I cover fractions in one of my numbers videos.
      See: ua-cam.com/video/CcGIPShq34g/v-deo.html
      or see: ua-cam.com/video/-Rh55hpNcL4/v-deo.html
      If I don't cover it there let me know.
      Or you can ask that type of question to the members of my Lifeprint-ASLU Facebook group. facebook.com/groups/Lifeprint.ASLU/
      Note: To join the group you must read the rules and answer a couple of quick questions (do so relatively soon after applying or the mods will delete the application).
      You will likely get a lot of great responses to your question(s) there. If you still want/need further clarification you can tag me from within the group or have one of the moderators tag me.

    🙋🏾‍♀️Okay it's official Bill, we're friends 😆 I thought it would be safe to watch these videos at night while everyone is sleep since there is no sound. However, since you're a comedian, it doesn't matter because I still end up cackling with laughter. I swear I'd speak like 50 languages by now if you were teaching them. Heading over to LP to send you a Christmas 🎁. God bless!

    Hilarious! I am addicted to learning sign language with Bill Vicars. If I could do this all day long I would. I have always wanted to learn sign language and now I finally am, even though I am still slow I force my family to patiently watch me sign everything I say all day long. I wish they would learn with me. They just laugh when I show them something funny Dr. BV says. This has been a great help to me during that Corona outbreak and I am excited to sign more and hopefully meet more people I can sign with when this whole event is over. In the meantime ...
    Thank You so much Dr. Bill Vicars! You really have made a great impact on this hearing chicks life. Knowledge is power and laughter is light! Namaste friend!

    These lessons are extremely helpful, and very much appreciated. I'm horribly ADHD, and sometimes end up nonverbal because my mouth can't keep pace with my brain. I usually end up gesticulating wildly or just falling stone silent or making stupid non-word noises to indicate to the people nearby that I need a minute. Using ASL actually helps a LOT. It forces me to focus on what I want to say and then on how to physically SAY it... and it helps me be able to communicate when I can't get the words out. Even if I'm just surrounded by hearing folks who don't understand the signs, sometimes it helps me get my voice back by signing it out to myself and then repeating it verbally for the others around me.
    Thank you!

    Hi Dr. Bill! I have a question for you. I've been learning sign language and I've seen people use the sign for "not" to say things like "wasn't" or "don't" or "doesn't". Is it because they have the word not? Are there signs for those words?

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  7 років тому +4

      See: ua-cam.com/channels/Zy9xs6Tn9vWqN_5l0EEIZA.htmlsearch?query=don%27t
      Negation is often incorporated into signs via reversal of orientation during the movement / or negative head shake. We have a strong sign for DON'T. However you are right in that the sign NOT often replaces wasn't or doesn't.

      One of the toughest things for English speakers at first is to get the notion out of their head that ASL is like English. Like people learning foreign languages wanting to translate "Do you...?" and yet in no other languages that I know do they actually use the verb "to do" in this context. ASL has a completely different grammar, and it can be a challenge to remember not to translate directly from one language to the next. Dr. Bill explains everything really well, but a lot of times it's just a matter of using it after you learn the concepts until you get comfortable not thinking in English. Granted, you wrote this 2 years ago, you've probably already learned this by now, but if any of this is helpful, then great!

    Would "OCTUPLE" be like the sign for "TWICE/DOUBLE" and "THRICE/TRIPLE", but with an "EIGHT" handshape?

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  7 років тому +2

      Yes, "octuple" could be signed using the same approach as twice or triple.
      You would need context. For example, if you are referring to octuplets near the beginning of the conversation you would sign BORN, BORN, BORN EIGHT!!! Then later during the conversation if you signed OCTUPLE it would be reasonably obvious that you were referring to octuplets.

    • @kanjigodomo9696
      @kanjigodomo9696 3 роки тому

      If you were referring to when she asked one of the students offscreen, I don't think that was a finger spelling, more like a confirmation to a response.
      If you meant for the finger spelled word on the screen for her next sentence, that was "someone," which can also mean "something" or "single."
      I had to make sure on where you were meaning in the video.

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  7 років тому +2

      Blonde is done higher, starting from near the hair. (HAIR YELLOW)
      California is based on the sign for GOLD which in turn is based on EARRING YELLOW -- thus the sign for California starts somewhat near the ear lobe.
