    American Sign Language (ASL) Lesson 27 is taught by Dr. Bill Vicars who is Deaf/hh. He holds an earned doctorate (accredited) in Deaf Studies from Lamar University in Texas and teaches Deaf Studies and ASL full-time (as of this post) as an tenured full-Professor at a major four-year state university.) These videos do not use sound. The lessons are taught without voice. If the signing seems fast you are encouraged to first study the lessons at www.Lifeprint.com and then come back and watch the video. Sarah is an actual ASL student. You can learn along with her as she progresses. For additional lessons and signing information, visit Lifeprint.com.

    Hello ASL Heroes!!!
    Hey, I could really use your help.
    If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you.
    A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com.
    Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!”

    Thanks!
    - Dr. Bill
    p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at:

    Take care and love to you all.

    When I was learning off your website, I got so upset that it said that you had to pay for the rest of the lessons. Now I am happy that I can learn from youtube, and still learn from you! Also I'm glad I didn't ditch sign language and went with french. I would have missed out on a lot

    There's like 5 different versions of cake and yet I never seen these versions he presented.
    Always learning...

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  2 роки тому

      These days I tend to spell it or do the downward claw double jabbed onto the non-dominant hand palm -- but yah, still a lot of variety out there on "cake."
      I'm always interested in learning regional variations though so feel free to describe any versions you have seen that you think I'd find interesting or might benefit future students.

      @@sign-language The one my baker friend who's deaf uses is the one I see on "Baby Sign" that looks like claw hand on palm going up.
      Also seen the "pie" version with the initialized version with C-hand with the thumb dragging on the palm or on the back of the hand.
      For "cupcake" will just sign cup and cake "muffin" (claw hand over palm).

    Hi Bill! Thank you! I really appreciate the no-cost, high-quality ASL lessons on youtube and on your website. Say, in case you're interested, it appears to me that Lesson #27 on youtube is missing most of Practice 27.C and all of Practice 27.D, including practice for sentences #12-20 of lesson 27. Thanks again for helping so many people learn ASL and about the Deaf/hh community.

      Thanks for the heads up. As a result of your comment I went ahead and recorded the second part of Lesson 27 and have posted it here: ua-cam.com/video/MEaYkcPywrQ/v-deo.html

    I've seen SB used to abbreviate "son of a bitch" given that sign drops the "of" and "a". I've never seen it used to abbreviate "strawberry" and I'm guessing it probably shouldn't given that it already has enough signs.

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  Рік тому +1

      That is a very good observation! Thanks for commenting on that. I need to add a discussion about that concept (SB) to my website. Particularly the version that uses a throwing-type motion changing the S to the B in the direction of the person at whom you are swearing. -- Such a great vocabulary item that doesn't come up much in "polite" conversation at the college but sure does come up at Deaf sporting events!!! Again, thanks!

    Bill, what did your parents feed you for dinner at 3:14? Was it spaghetti with bread and butter?

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  2 роки тому +1

      I didn't specify any particular type of food other than the bread and butter. I used a classifier to depict a plate (ostensibly with food on it) and then showed the process of eating the food along with the bread and butter and mentioned that it made me fat (back then).
      Sure, we occasionally had spaghetti but in that particular clip (from 3:12 to 3:30 it could have been a wide number of different types of food.
