    Last time I was in Osaka, I was lost going from Shin-Osaka to Umeda. My wife and I managed to stop a lady to ask for direction. Since she couldn’t communicate with us, she actually signalled us to follow her, gone upstairs, walked with us for about 50 meters, point us to the right path, and after we thank her, walk back the same way we came, went back downstairs and back on her way.

    My favorite part of the Shin-Kobe station is that just besides it is the entrance to the Rokko Mountain climbing path that goes along a river. In summer you see lots of kids playing in the river just underneath the Shinkansen track. Walk up the path for 20 min or so and there's nice waterfall. One of my favorite entrance to the Rokko Mountain hike.
    For going to Tokyo from Kobe, I used air plane....

    I remember visiting Kobe for the second time (the first being at Christmas 1992) in December 1996 (arriving via Shin-Kobe Station) and being amazed at how little evidence there was that there had been a devastating earthquake the previous year.

    This is my favourite shinkansen station and i've taken the design as inspiration for my shinkansen layout despite it being based in Kyushu.

    Please keep doing these train and ekiben videos. I love ekiben and am disappointed when my train trips are too short to enjoy them lol! I was waiting on a platform with my back to the tracks when suddenly a shinkansen flew past...omg what a shock!

    Wow so this was streamed on my birthday in 2019. I grew up about 2 blocks from that station. I watched this and started to cry. An earthquake pretty much destroyed everything I knew, but the train station is still there at the base of some mountains. We used to hike that mountain.

    I know the station well. I used this station many times visiting my honey in Tokyo every other weekend when I was working in Hyogo (Takasago). Eventually I learned that the cheaper overnight bus was a good option too.

    John buys Kanae a cheese cake and gets on train bound for Tokyo. He arrives at Tokyo and goes home with an empty box...? I advise to buy that bento with the beef, looks yummy and would make Kanae happy. LOL Seriously, it seems that travel in Japan is very expensive. Do they have senior discounts to help out? Hey, they are on the right side of the es-kal-vator! That's the wrong side! Shinkansen are the COOLEST EVER in Japan. Just don't open the... window! Thanks John you always make mornings fun while drinking coffee. Regards to Kanae. Congratulations on your award.

    It’s amazing that for as long as that train station has been there that there’s not a lot of graffiti all over. One of the things I hate about U.S. common areas is the nastiness and graffiti everywhere - New York subway is a good example. Japanese people have a lot more class in a lot of ways!

    • @moriken1234
      @moriken1234 5 років тому +1

      Also "shin" of the "Shin"kansen, or the bullet train. "Shin" is doubly meant as being "new" and being "for the Shinkansen."

    $130 U.S. dollars for that train ride?

    • @onlyinjapanGO
      @onlyinjapanGO  5 років тому +2

      Yes, and 100% worth it! I can jump on anytime and get home in less than 3 hours sitting in a comfortable seat and either sleep (the ride is so smooth) or watch the landscape.
      Typically it’s a business expense. If it were cheaper, it would be super crowded - demand is high. Flights require going to the airport and waiting. And on arrival, the commute into the city takes time. Shinkansen to Tokyo is often faster because it goes direct, never late, into the city center.

      ONLY in JAPAN * GO Your videos are super! You’ve got such a great attitude, and you seem to really enjoy this, and we get to learn a lot about Japan from someone who is very personable! Thanks! Sorry I absolutely forgot to like! Shame on me because I intended to! I just now took care of that because, as I’ve said, I do like your talented videos, particularly because they are recorded in Japan. I lived in Taipei, Taiwan many years ago, and went to high school there, and fell in love with the oriental culture. Over the years, I have gotten an interest in all things Japanese, and would like to live there some day, or at the very least, visit for a while. Arigato!
