I am from India and had been to Japan recently (in the month of May), and I was fortunate enough to have the Japan Rail Pass with me, and hence got an opportunity to travel between multiple cities in Japan by the Shinkansen. It was an amazing experience in all! 😀 Keep up the good work, John!
I am new to your channel, but after watching one of your videos, I immediately subscribed! Absolutely love your videos! My hubby and I are on the very early stages of planning a trip to Japan for next summer, with our kids, but have reservations because of the train system. Quite scary, actually. But, your videos have been a nice tutorial to combat our anxiety. Your genuine reactions are a welcome treat. Outstanding work. By the way, if you encounter a family of four absolutely confused in one of Japan's train stations next summer, please help them, for that could very well be me and my family. Thanks again. Fight On!
Hi John, not trying to be too much of a train geek, but the green train is an E5 and the Red Train is an E6. The E 7 was the blue/white train that came in while you were walking past it. Love your show, keep up the good work!!
I look forward every year for your Hokkaido, Sapporo and Cherry blossom festival live stream... and I wanna make sure you stay in business John haha Writing down tips for my 1st future Japan trip. More power and hello from LA! 🙋♀️🇺🇸
Mrs. Dimaano I have no plans to ever stop bringing you with me on these adventures around Japan ٩(^‿^)۶ it’s always fun!! Thank you for being so supportive! I really appreciate it -John
Very cool. I visit Tokyo a couple of times a year and love taking pictures of the trains (densha otaku much?). I will definitely try this on my next trip in December.
Hi from San Diego , California. I've been to Japan twice . First (2015) around Shinjuku for 4 days and second was last April(2018) for 4 days around Yokosuka, Lake Ashi, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and Osaka.
the green one is E5 series shinkansen, John, Tohoku Shinkansen, while E7 is the ivory with blue/gold line is the Hokuriku Shinkansen, pretty cool experience anyway! the double decker shinkansen is E4 series, omg I am a train nerd! the red one who hardly kissing with E5 is E6 series, it is Super Komachi the Akita Shinkansen, omg I love shinkansen haha! the train who is suddenly coming behind you is E2 series, keren banget!
2-weeks ago i managed to go to the Shinkansen platforms at Tokyo Station, and took loads of pics and videos eventhough i was not en route to anywhere on the Shinkansen! And i managed to do that after watching your video! Thanks a lot!
There are stations where the trains passes through at full speed. Quite an experience to be at the platform! Such stations have barriers preventing one to get too close to the full speed trains passing through.
This is similar to the Day Pass that subway systems had until Covid-19 mucked them up - which sounds like exactly like I just said - you could theoretically ride them all day as long as you don't leave the system.
That's cool that there's just an admission option lol. And that there's an English option to buy the tickets. Do the regular subway ticket machines have an English instructions option as well?
Hey John, thank you! So cool topic, we can feel your enthusiasm until here! I share it also each time I took Shinkansen, it’s like a little trip in the trip, Ekiben mind, good escape for a while!
That - and for train photographers who o see often. It’s almost equal to the cheapest local train ticket. I’ve used it a lot to meet friends coming to town but I’ve been asked by so many viewers about the Shinkansen who can’t afford to ride it what they can do to see the trains. This is the answer ;)
I wonder if its illegal to ride the shinkansen just to get the feel of it. Stop on the nearest stn and back again to tokyo. (2hrs seems possible). Very informative but the vid quality was so bad..hope u can fix it. I still gv u a 👍🏻
meluvpany Yes it obviously is. And i have to imagine that they probably have a system in place to make it impossible. Like having the trains going back on another platform that can't be accessed without going through a ticket machine with a proper ticket.
meluvpany its illegal and if you do that, you would have to pay a fine or in some cases, you would be arrested. there are some people who get arrested in the past few years.
John, can you please go to a station where the Shinkansen whooooshes through? I was caught off guard once when a shinkansen went flying past the station I was at....what a feeling...and it wasn't going full speed.
Ive lived here a while and didn't know you could buy the Shinkansen platform ticket. The question is how did you keep this one to yourself for so long without making a video :)
ONLY in JAPAN * GO Thank you for sharing again !you inspire us with your travels . I was in your meet up In NYc .Hubby and I actually got the courage to go to Hakodate last May because you showed shin Hakodate in one of your hitch hiking videos .!
I always wondered where the admission ticket would get me-now I know! Thanks John- I will get it the next time to buy souvenirs I can only buy inside in a relaxed way-and an ekiben 😍
I’ve never purchased this platform ticket, but I think if someone plan it precisely, it’s possible to make a round trip between Tokyo and Ōmiya or Shin Yokohama on Shinkansen with this ticket in 2 hours, as long as this person doesn’t exit any station.
I laughed so hard when you said the trains are kissing lol, best description ever. They are actually E5 and E6 and in Morioka Station where they got de-kissed, the Station liberally made mascots for the trains. I think the mascots are supposed to be a couple too.

Two trains of diff. color getting along. LMBO. You are awesome John. Keep up the great work.

That’s fantastic!! It will be an excellent adventure!!

Much love for you john you are such an entertainer ^^ I'm so enjoying your stream 😁😁 it bring so much joy ^^
You should chat up JR and try to get on their Doctor Yellow, the maintenance and testing Shinkansen train...could make for a terrific live stream^^
I will - THIS WEEK! ;) let’s see what happens.
I binge watch your past live streams cuz they are awesome, and of course I do hit the like button 🙌🙌🙌

I look forward every year for your Hokkaido, Sapporo and Cherry blossom festival live stream... and I wanna make sure you stay in business John haha Writing down tips for my 1st future Japan trip. More power and hello from LA! 🙋♀️🇺🇸

SUSAN FROM PHILLY
Love the Shinkansen!
Love IT too
Thank you John for this amazing video
This is a real pro tip, I forgot you needed a ticket to get on the platforms
Thanks for showing us the trains,John.

Can you find a place to watch the trains go by at full speed?
2-weeks ago i managed to go to the Shinkansen platforms at Tokyo Station, and took loads of pics and videos eventhough i was not en route to anywhere on the Shinkansen! And i managed to do that after watching your video! Thanks a lot!
First time I am totally relaxed as John is going to the front of the Shinkansen just before departure 🤣🤣🤣
There are stations where the trains passes through at full speed. Quite an experience to be at the platform! Such stations have barriers preventing one to get too close to the full speed trains passing through.
Archibald Haddock and of you want to see those trains pass by fast, you need platform / admission ticket :)
Nice views of the shinkansens!! Wow! Good hint, John!!
Another epic stream John!!! So informative sending hugs to Tokyo 🤗🤗🤗🤗
SYDNEY AUSTRALIA. I'll be there in October 2018. thanks for your great informative video clips
This is similar to the Day Pass that subway systems had until Covid-19 mucked them up - which sounds like exactly like I just said - you could theoretically ride them all day as long as you don't leave the system.
And i thought i was the only one who did this...
Thanks John
I am from Zurich, Switzerland... I like watching trains like you, too!
What about making a video about the "Hello Kitty!" shinkansen?
That's cool that there's just an admission option lol. And that there's an English option to buy the tickets. Do the regular subway ticket machines have an English instructions option as well?
What for a nice hint! :-D Thank you!
It is an developed station and kind people surrounded....それは新しく開発された島です。世界最高の設備を備えています。
I hope next video to ride shinkansen and see the beautiful Japan 😍
Watching from Lithuania. With that ticket - can you step inside the train while it is stationary on the platform and film inside?
Luckily we don't need such tickets in Germany, everyone can just walk to the platforms and watch the trains for free :)
it just see right? no as passenger?
Thank you . Loving this.
I'm graduating in July next year and was wondering how I can teach English in Japan after I graduate. What do I do?
I am from India brother
Everything’s modern and cool in Japan!
Thank you, for a interesting thing to do?
It's only $3 to ride Shinkansen from Hakata to Hakata-minami station. And you can see railway yard near the station.
aiueo7000 for real? Im coming to tokyo next year but too broke to get JR pass. If what u said is true, its like my dream come true!
Except Hakata isn't even on the same island as Tokyo, you'll be paying for a JR Pass just to get there.
Tom Servo 🙈.. i need to study Japan map more..huhu
@@meluvpany you can do a similar type of local ride from Tokyo Station to Ueno station however. I think it's more expensive though.
Do all of the stations (e.g., Shin-Osaka, Hakata, etc.) offer the admission ticket to the platform?
Yes. It’s used for people to go greet visitors or for media days, passengers who want to take a photo :)
ONLY in JAPAN * GO Thanks John!
Yes and some in Europe have started doing the same.
ctokita in the U S it is not possible even by paying. What a drag.
Strange trains in Exotic Parts.
Virtual tourism, so eco.
Happy happy, Joy joy.
Hey John, thank you! So cool topic, we can feel your enthusiasm until here! I share it also each time I took Shinkansen, it’s like a little trip in the trip, Ekiben mind, good escape for a while!
John reminds me of Sheldon Cooper from Big bang theory in this video. :)
What is your progress in becoming a Shinkansen driver?
John, you must have a special super power to seek out cheap deals ($1.25)! Ha ha Thanks for the tip. Greetings to your lovely wife.
Itoshino Ery no piano shita hito desu ne moshikashitara.
Can you Make Shiki-shima Japanese luxury train review please
How much are tickets to ride ??
welcometoJapan!!
That’s definitely an Only in Japan thing. United airlines could definitely learn to keep their aircraft cleaner.
In my country a platform ticket costs only $0.02! Just saying
What's causing the video to be blur?
Probably weak 4G LTE signal, this was a mobile live stream on the road with an iPhone and a gimbal. Kind of exciting when it’s live!
i'm assuming the point of the platform ticket is that you're meant to be able to meet someone on the platform when their train arrives
Sheldon Cooper would buy this ticket
Wow this exist then. Wow
John have you ever caught a glimpse of the rare Dr Yellow?
E5
Hey watching from Brisbane Australia
ever seen the yellow one?
I wonder if its illegal to ride the shinkansen just to get the feel of it. Stop on the nearest stn and back again to tokyo. (2hrs seems possible). Very informative but the vid quality was so bad..hope u can fix it. I still gv u a 👍🏻

Daju probably ..urghh
Plapla thank u for telling me..i must say goodbye to shinkansen then..😭
I love listening to the streams while i'm falling asleep. It's become normal to pop on a random video and doze off... Only in Japan Lullabies LOL
UA-cam's hardest working live streamer right here!
John, can you please go to a station where the Shinkansen whooooshes through? I was caught off guard once when a shinkansen went flying past the station I was at....what a feeling...and it wasn't going full speed.
Wow, very good deal. I'd love to photograph Shinkansen with some methods or style.
Btw, where is the Ekibento livestream? I want ro download that
That Green E5 series is coming to India...
John, I think the color that it will come might not be green but E5 Series is of sure in 2022 August 15th.

FOR HOW MUCH? 😊
that is a massive station and so easy to get lost...
Ive lived here a while and didn't know you could buy the Shinkansen platform ticket. The question is how did you keep this one to yourself for so long without making a video :)
I’ve know about these for 20 years but didn’t know others DID NOT know ;) UA-cam is about sharing for me and use this knowledge to help others.
totally agree
ONLY in JAPAN * GO Thank you for sharing again !you inspire us with your travels . I was in your meet up In NYc .Hubby and I actually got the courage to go to Hakodate last May because you showed shin Hakodate in one of your hitch hiking videos .!

I want to ride Amtrak one day.
I’ve never purchased this platform ticket, but I think if someone plan it precisely, it’s possible to make a round trip between Tokyo and Ōmiya or Shin Yokohama on Shinkansen with this ticket in 2 hours, as long as this person doesn’t exit any station.
Yuwei Li It's not allowed. It's just to access the platform.
Daju Yeah that's absolutely true. I didn't mean to actually do it or make others do so
E6
I'm from 🇨🇦 Canada 🇨🇦
I thought I was going to ride the Shinkansen for 200 yen 😅
I am from Singapore !
thank you... ive never seen this with all the vidros I watched a about Tokyo...
My first time seeing bullet train kissing each other....what a sight!
I've been on Max Toki before
Now someone are thinking ( if i get it...walk inside the shinkanzen...travel to osaka and ohhhhhhh i lost the ticket? 😂😂😂😂)
On my rides on the Shinkansen last year our tickets not checked on board but upon arrival you have to put your ticket through the turnstiles.
I laughed so hard when you said the trains are kissing lol, best description ever. They are actually E5 and E6 and in Morioka Station where they got de-kissed, the Station liberally made mascots for the trains. I think the mascots are supposed to be a couple too.
Hi John,
When you're in Singapore, will you be live streaming?
Yes :) I’ll try to stream a few times in Singapore 🇸🇬 we’re leaving tomorrow!!
Your content is wonderful, but sometimes the video lags.
Los angels
In the USA these trains would probably be covered in graffiti : (
When I saw the "double decker" the song Lowrider by War went through my head.
Key West here.
I thought this was a VR game for some reason. The graphics look weird.
