    Ian is one of the coolest guys ever. I've met him 3 times and he was the most gracious and down to earth guys ever. I have nothing but respect and love for my favorite drummer of all time.

      Agreed. That tight metallic snare from his Ludwig 400 at the time before he changed to the 402 in 1971. I love it all!

    A legend who could drum for what is probably one of the greatest heavy metal bands ever. The drumming on perfect strangers is sublime.

    listening to ian speak impresses me as much as his drumming...I like the fact that he is sensitive to the people who pay to come and listen to him do his thing...that is a good attitude to have and I wish I could be like that...

    I think many of the Deep Purple alumni must have found the Fountain of Youth, especially Roger Glover who hasn't changed one whisker since the mid 70's. Paice too it seems, except for the gray hair.

    Even more than Ians "chops", of which he has in spades, the first thing that got me interested in his playing was the ride cymbal pattern in "Lazy"....that pattern is even, smooth, and relentless. Of all the parts Ive tried to copy of Paice's, maintaining that swing pattern is among the most difficult for me to hone. The true measure of a man that is more than a drummer but also an insightful, instinctual musician, its why hes my hero, that and pretty much everthing on IN ROCK.

    @IlRezzonico Paice has always been the best looking(mostly because he is drumming and that keeps you in shape more than playing a Hammond), in 1993 he looked pretty much the same as in 1984 (well thats just by looking at the videos) He was the last one to really age (at least in looks), but then again he is the second youngest person in the band (not counting Morse), and the difference between Airey and him is only 8 days.

    @DCHurlford1 2003, I think. We saw him in Birmingham that year, and this would be from the same era. Great guy, and (of course) the best rock drummer ever.

  • @GreenerHill
    @GreenerHill 14 років тому +1

    @DCHurlford1 That's how we found him as well. Really polite, and happy to talk about Purple and his other bands, and with a lot of good humour.

    Ian Paice seems to be a cool person, and a hell of a drummer. Just reading the silly comments on Utube, makes me avoid music store and only buy items from internet websites. This is because musicians are normally idiots... One day, I sent my wife into a popular music store to pick up an item I needed for my drum set. Afterwards, she came out and stated how dysfunctional, and rude, the musicians in this store were. If you think I'm joking, read some of the comments stated on Utube...

    There have been and continue to be many, many great drummers in Rock but my 2 favoprites are Ringo #2 and Ringo on steroids IAN PAICE #1! He has the essence of the great swing band drummers [Buddy Rich, Lou Bellson, Max Roach] and yet can rock out with Bonzo, Niel Peart, Appice etc. When I was in high school I played the drums to the entire Made In Japan album at least 3 times in a row everyday. I got top be a pretty good drummer from that. LOVE DEEP PURPLE!

    He makes a good point about how machines come and go, but there will always be people performing the music. A good example, I think, is the player piano, which is largely left to the dustbin of history.

    after Bohnam Paice is the greatest rock drummer for sure ! gotta love the man :)

  • @kidzsanlorenzo
    @kidzsanlorenzo 14 років тому

    @dmcpedroza mmm now I love them both! but I once had the luck to speak to Paice and HE told me that his favourite rock drummer of all times was Bonham... So I don't think Paice thinks Bonham is sloppy at all... Now every one can have there personal favourite but about 99% of drummers agree with Paicey too... Bohnam just took rock drumming to another level in the 70's everyone was trying to have his sound.
    cheers :)

    You need to check out some of Steve Gadds work, listen the Asia album by Steely Dan to get an idea of his style. Its not a matter of who better its about individual styles I guess is the point I'm trying to make. You can't compare Neal Peart to John Bohnam both are great or Stewart Copeland even all different styles. .
