Welcome back, Dan! It feels great to watch STMY again. That Percy, Duck and Diesel conversation is one that I'll always love now. I don't think I've heard those three speak individually in a long time!
This episode... wow! You nailed Duck and Diesel's relationship to the letter. Looks like my little prediction last night was correct. Their past is sure to leave behind some scars, but the two are certainly working their way to healing things up. Can't wait to see how Diesel really atones his mistakes. And I love how you implemented my flashback story in. I must admit, I didn't think that Bear and Diesel could have easily swapped jobs, rather than Diesel having to wait till evening just to apologise to Duck. I also thought that the fact that Diesel had been the one caught by surprise by Duck's forgiveness was... sort of heartwarming.
This is just what I needed on a cool summers evening. Great episode. After seeing the expression of that mail coach in the last shot, I remembered the last shot of Percy's Post and now I'm starting to have suspicions. ;)
That was a great episode WildNorWester ☺ Always wanted to see an episode where Diesel apologises to Duck, and to find a way to make up for his past indiscretions. Be looking forward to viewing part 2
Me too mate! WildNorWester's episode always give me motivation to go through the week! "This week done, and you'll get some pure gold first thing in the morning on Saturday!"
Diesel 10: Wants to basically kill an engine in one movie then builds an airport before taking over a work shop, then restored a work shop. (not to mention being the grinch for a day). Diesel in this series: See's corpse of one of is brothers, realizes that he is now obsolete. Why do people like Diesel 10?
Great episode, welcome back Wildnorwester! I noticed that there's a possible goof at 12:27, you mentioned that "Duck thought back to the Christmas of 1966", during the events of 'Galloping Sausage.' But Oliver (who was mentioned in that episode) came to Sodor in 1967, according to 'On the Run' and at the end of 'Bad Apple,' it's stated that the events of 'Galloping Sausage' took place in 1981.
Yeah. I noted that in my review on the episode as well. And... was there an Ice-cream van when Oliver and Duck were talking at the station? I heard the chime of it.
@@TobyandMavisforever Late as heck, but I have the route myself. It's not an ice cream van. My best guess is that it's a SFX hidden underneath something, like a building.
This is well worth the wait! I totally understand the importance proper motivation plays when producing quality work, and as I said, you being able to motivate yourself again comes as a great (but extremely good) surprise, for at the moment I myself lacks that motivation. It's visible you devoted quite a lot of effort developing Diesel's character and as a character, since way back in the days of Sodor the Early Years: Season 2, and I must say adding so much depth into a "talking train" (as people stereotypically call the creation of our beloved reverend) is exactly what franchise needs to remain attractive to older audience without including bad language, or violent and sexual element (which would be hard to do considering the context of the being railway centred, anyways). One little glitch I must point out is I'm not exactly fond of the use of Duck's theme. No offence to its creator, in case he's reading this, he did a fantastic job on "modernising" (so to speak) the theme, but when the other character's theme and music are all Mike & Junior style, it just doesn't feel right, especially because their style suits the stories you wrote much better. Again, no problem with the theme itself, just it doesn't belong here. I'm not sure if this is the case to anyone else, but I always find your episodes much more relatable to and helpful in real life compared to those "moral episodes" the official series produces, such as how apologies and reconciliation wasn't enough to rid the perpetrator's feeling of guilt (if he/she does feel any). This is just the way it is: the older we get, the more complex the difficulties we face becomes, and the drama we enjoy needs to involve them in order to be continually enjoyable and relatable to us. Having your stories back in my weekly routine was one of the best things that happened to me recently: I've got a good reason to look forward to next Saturday!
Dear Friends: You may recall that Diesel was very mean and rude to Duck many years ago. While he did apologize, there was more he felt could be done. These stories tell how he reconciled. The Author
Interesting setup so far. I really like how the dialogue worked into bringing Diesel into the whole situation. Although I do find it a bit odd how Diesel's own recount of when he told the trucks about his nicknames for the mainline trio to be a contradiction to "Bad Apple" where he told them after James was leaving the yard. Nonetheless, I look foreword to see how this all plays out.
I never thought I see the day Diesel and duck would some what forgive each other and work together (in a way) its great to see them put there troubles a side and try and work out together.
About time those freight cars got back to being troublesome in your series. You might say they haven't been given the proper motivation. Or perhaps they've simply been lying in wait for the tough guys in the Little Western to lower their guard. Even so, I may have a few suspects that haven't been seen in a long while: the Spiteful Brakevan and S.C. Ruffey. You've certainly made Diesel a much more complex character. Who knew that cars could be so easily manipulated?
Hey, S.C. Ruffey was put back together in the TV Series, and NWR1991 brought back the Brakevan in his series. Besides, it's exciting to find that the guys you thought were dead are actually alive and behind everything. Who else would target the engines on the Little Western with such an enormous grudge?
Well, Dan said that even if S.C.R.uffey was put back in service, he surely would have been withdrawn by now. And the Spiteful Brakevan's remains looked like this: vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/ttte/images/7/7b/BreakVanRS8.png/revision/latest?cb=20140115115252 I doubt that can be salvaged.
A bit late to the party (about eighteen months late), but I rewatch these regularly, they're that good. Also, Duck's my favourite character. My favourite moment (and this may seem odd), is Duck's line at 2:36. Geebmachine delivers it superbly.
great episode part of me wonders where the buffers on Donald's line went to at the beginning? supposed an accident must have caused them to be removed also, 6:04 James has some weird graphical goof, his dome is silvery-blue, shouldn't it be brass?
Actually, Dan mentioned to me he had to remove the buffers, so that Donald could have that accident. Otherwise, he would have crashed at the buffers and derailed.
Great episode dude just wondering is Sodor the early years and Sodor the modern years the same or different timline like season 1 and two appert if the timline
It's so obvious who the culprit is. It's a truck, an antagonist truck who hasn't been introduced, yet. His name is Hopper 006 and by the looks of it, he's very dangerous! He's seen in 0:10-0:12 and he's the third truck in Oliver's train from 3:31-3:52
It seems odd for the engines' whistles and shiny parts to be more blue than brassy in this video! 8:35 the wheels on Percy's train vanish as they pass the edge of the camera!
Both of those are down to how Trainz a New Era does things. It seems to stop rendering the bogies just before the trains pass out of camera view, and the handling of reflection mapping is a little off.
Knapford. I'm kinda stuck with a mixture of TV and RWS geography. Basically, the mainline up to Elsbridge is from the TV series, the rest is as per the RWS.
Whoever is responsible for trucks is mischief is going to be in big trouble, but the only question is why whoever is causing this trouble is doing this?
I think the real problem is the crews have no idea how to use the train brakes. If you used the brakes properly, you wouldn't have an out of control train.
incorrect any sort of brake system (yes even modern air brake) can malfunction or be overpowerd for instance in the episode Thomas and the trucks (I think that's the name) Thomas's driver used the brakes properly its just that the trucks over powered the brakes and there for caused the incident and in Thomas and the breakdown train James's brakes malfunctioned quite badly in the sense that they caught fire and assuming that the NWR still uses older tech on its lines I find it safe to say that even if the crews knew how to use the train brakes or... independent which if you look at the trucks they have no air pipe so the driver has to use the independent/train brake essentialy so in that instance you can't blame the crews but the trucks yes...
fred white 1: The brakes on the trucks should be strong enough to slow them down... They are very light and shouldn't take much braking force to stop anyway. 2: In this episode, it's described that a brake line on one of the trucks failed, so they do have train brakes in this cannon.
ironmatic 1 but as it is also described that the air can be let out of the brake line so a careless shunter could have forgotten to make it to where air/steam could build and also in this cannon trucks can bump push and pull an engine so the brakes may have a tougher time braking in such a case and I did say in the last comment that malfunctions can happen so who's to say that the brakes were even working on Donalds train if they weren't and the trucks have a load such as coal cement .etc the weight of a truck can increase greatly depending on the load and as evidenced by the fact that that Donalds wheels were sliding the driver and fireman were caught off guard and therefore simply couldn't gain control afterwards
fred white 1: Loosing air means the brakes would be applied. 2: If the brakes where not working, that's a MAJOR safety issue that no railway would dare have. Not just one or two trucks but the majority of them! 3: They are still extremely light. They're literally just wooden walls on a frame with two axles!
ironmatic 1 the loads in them though can get very heavy and and if I'm correct there is a valve on the trucks that can make it to where the air can't be released and as far as loads go stone ore coal general goods liquid etc stone is from what i can tell heaviest including if it's cut the way it was in donalds plank wagons back to air perhaps the air was stuck sometimes the brakes could be locked open needing to bleed air out of the system
Couldn't help but notice that you managed to get Donald to essentially slide along the rails, what with locked brakes. How'd you manage to do this? Also, I can't help but hear ducks quacking in the tune of Duck's theme. If this is so, then nice touch.
I'd like to make some subtitles for some of your videos, namely this Diesel trilogy, Bad Apple, Barry the Rescue Engine and Winds of Change. Can you plase enable the option to add subtitles?
You don't miss a thing! :-) That's actually a script goof, hung over from an earlier version of the script. It's a bit of a story, so here goes: Originally, these episodes were going to come between 'Last Straw' and 'Unwanted'. As such, the original draft had 'an old harbour tug' (i.e. Ten Cents - a non-speaking, anonymous cameo) who was working in the harbour, see Donald out of control and position a barge to catch the runaway train. In a later episode, Donald would have met Ten Cents, and thanked him for this, to which Ten Cents would have told him about Top Hat's actions in 'High Tide'. This would have established that Ten Cents was around in the present day, and being hired out to other harbours. However, when I decided to release the episodes as trilogies, having them in this order messed that up - Endgame would have been part of the 3rd set, with 'Troublesome Trucks' and 'The Devious Way' as part of the 2nd. So I rearranged them and adjusted the script accordingly. That line got missed.
Ah, I see. That would have been an intreasting meeting between Ten Cents and Donald, but I'm glad it panned out this way instead. Who knows? Maybe Ten Cents and Donald will see each other sometime further up the track... no pun intended.
I'm anxious to know who our devious villain is. My main suspects could be Scruffy, Spiteful Brakevan, or a devious Diesel that even I yet to know. I guess I just need to keep on watching and find out more in part 2. When will it be uploaded?
just had an idea on who's responsible for the trucks being so troublesome,... the spiteful breakvan- he did once cause trouble for Donald, Douglas and james. But he was also destroyed but think about it for a minute - maybe he was rebuild behind closed doors and wanted revenge on the Scottish twins who knows.
Shane never hated steam engines to start with, but he was more or less shocked to see them in full service. Norman Spencer's not even on Sodor anymore, so that can't be right.
could've been either two things, one is diesel 10 who if you remember is a power hungry maniac with a claw called pinchy - or two is s.c.ruffey like few speculated.
Yes, it's the 'Duck Theme - Quack Variant'. I figured it sounded slightly 'off' from the regular theme, which made it perfect for when things were falling apart.
It's called wheel lock and it happens in real life when the locomotive brakes and the weight of the train behind it then keeps the momentum of the train going even with the wheels not moving it can also happen when passenger trains have to do a emergency brake.
"Let's see Donald take a dip!"
Great to see you back, WNW.

Actually, I'm planning to have Trevor meet our friendly tugboat next.
Trevor and Ten Cents. Cool!
+ George.
I'm anxious to know who our devious villain is. My main suspects could be Scruffy, Spiteful Brakevan, or a devious Diesel that even I yet to know. I guess I just need to keep on watching and find out more in part 2. When will it be uploaded?
It'll be uploaded weekly, as per usual. As for the villain, there's a clue in the final book of the Railway Series.
I've just looked at the whole book online... and the hoppers the twins were pulling look a lot like the hoppers we saw in the preview trailer.
WildNorWester
Yeah, that doesn't help me out. I don't have the book nor do I know which chapter is the last. Can I get another clue... lol
Have you seen the James Bond movie 'Goldeneye'?
No. Is it Fred Pelhay or George?
just had an idea on who's responsible for the trucks being so troublesome,... the spiteful breakvan- he did once cause trouble for Donald, Douglas and james. But he was also destroyed but think about it for a minute - maybe he was rebuild behind closed doors and wanted revenge on the Scottish twins who knows.
Nope.
Ouch
@@SSkat4069hey, this is MY other account!
Nice story man!
this is like murder mystery without death
Cool
hey quick question, why was percy's dome blue?
It's to do with the way the reflection mapping works in TANE.
It could be Shane because didn't he hate Steen engines? Or it could be norman Spencer
Shane never hated steam engines to start with, but he was more or less shocked to see them in full service. Norman Spencer's not even on Sodor anymore, so that can't be right.
Oh I though Norman Spencer still was
could've been either two things, one is diesel 10 who if you remember is a power hungry maniac with a claw called pinchy - or two is s.c.ruffey like few speculated.
Diesel 10 and other TV series characters won't be in my series.
oh well, it was just an idea but i guess we'll just just have to wait and see till the next episode. 😃
Was that Alice on the bridge?
But I dont want to wait....
Is it just me or is the frame rate much better
It is. This and 'Endgame' were filmed on my new laptop, however 'The Devious Way' was filmed on my old one.
When you end STMY, will you still be doing the miniseries?
The 3 mini-series will be up next, then season 3 will finish things off.
Oh. Thought there would be two.
Did i hear quacks in duck's theme?
Yes, it's the 'Duck Theme - Quack Variant'. I figured it sounded slightly 'off' from the regular theme, which made it perfect for when things were falling apart.
How Donald keep move if his wheels doesn't move? There's a invisible back engine who push him?
It's called wheel lock and it happens in real life when the locomotive brakes and the weight of the train behind it then keeps the momentum of the train going even with the wheels not moving it can also happen when passenger trains have to do a emergency brake.
who made the little western route you were using?
That's one of the older SI3D routes.
wish I was in the fandom back then then
