  • I wanted to try the new EN-C two-liner glider - Ozone Photon. Here are my impressions from test-flying the wing on a short 110 km flight in strong spring conditions of Bassano del Grappa. Wing size MS (takeoff weight range 80-95 kg) loaded at 94 kg.

    This video helped me a lot since uploaded and I finally selected the wing color. Thanks.

    This is an excellent video! Makes me less nervous about my new Photon. I have not yet had a chance to try it in real world Xc conditions. Great videography, great editing, love the camera angles, cloudbase! You live in a beautiful area.

      Thanks for watching and commenting! Unfortunately, this place is about 5h by car away from where I live... But I'm crazy enough to drive 1000 km there and back just for a flying weekend, if the weather is bad at my home site 😁

      Thanks for watching! Not only is it cute, but it's also pretty visible. I hope the other pilots can see me better in the air. Also, in case of a (hopefully never to happen) crash landing, I might be easier to discover.

    my impression was that it doesn't move much at any speed (relatively to other 2 liners), but at trim speed the brakes feel slightly disconnected, so making it 100% stationary over the head is tricky. Nice view on the wing in the thermal, very visible how little the tips move, just a tiny deformation, it moves much more as a block thna most wings with this A.R. Cool footage ;)

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  Рік тому +1

      Yes, the tips are even too solid for my taste. Still, you can see the wing wobbling a bit (but it's fully OK for this aspect ratio).

    Nice video !! What did you think of Photon's performance compared to Artik R?

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  Рік тому +5

      I haven't tried the Artik R yet. From what I can tell after flying side by side, they are pretty close. The Photon might be just a tiny bit faster (but I loaded the wing more than the Artik pilot).

    Nice!! How would you compare it to the Cure2?

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  Рік тому +3

      It is a different world. The Photon is much faster, more stable, has tremendously better glide when accelerated 50% and more. The Cure 2 has a better handling though, is more comfortable and less demanding.

      @@dymanoid I think about going back to High-B. I once tested an Explorer2s 5kg over max weight at 100. It was a super awesome feeling in alpine conditions and I outclimbed almost everyone. Later that day I tested the M version of it in the appropriate weight of 100kg of 105 max, but it felt dull and generic. As I only fly in flatlands where you only have one chance for thermal entry, I fear that I could hurt myself with the S on weak days. Even the Gin Dealer said that I should go for the M. But that one day in the alps, man, the S was perfect! What's wise now?

    • @asksteevs
      @asksteevs Рік тому +1

      @@thisisyol I flew (and enjoyed) an Explorer2 XS at 9kg (!) over the weight range, and the very next day an Explorer2 S at 1kg under the top. The XS was great, and I was climbing and stuff, but two things: 1- If you're *over* the weight range, you're outside of the range they test for certification. It could be that your high B now recovers like a C or even D wing. 2- If you are under the top weight range, you will climb better in light lift. Sometimes this doesn't really matter (strong alpine air) but I have been ~5kg over range on some wings and watched others speck out when I just couldn't quite climb. All anecdotal of course.

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  Рік тому +1

      @@thisisyol I don't fly flatlands, but from what I've heard, many "flatlanders" prefer to fly hotter wings but in the middle of the weight range. So they have some advantage in weak lift both because of the wing class and the moderate load. I personally love to load my wings right at the top because of the speed, agility, stability, and fun factor.

  • @ricardoafonso5965

    This wing seems to have been made to fly all the time accelerated! In the videos I've seen so far it seems very unstable when it's not at full speed or close to it...
    Anxious here waiting for mine to arrive in Brazil!

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  Рік тому +1

      From my feelings, it already becomes calmer at 40% speed bar. At full bar, it is pretty shaky in severe turbulence, so I haven't tried to push through really bad air fully accelerated.

      You're vigilant, thank you! But I don't break any rules here 😜 There's a mountain just behind me, so I'm below 1000 ft AGL, which means clear of cloud is enough - and I wasn't in the cloud, I just flew right at its edge, soaring up at cloud's luv side.

    It seems that you had a much better line in the match with Artik R, isn't it?
    Otherwise the difference in performance is huge and the photon is a masterpiece.

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  Рік тому +2

      I pushed more speed bar while catching up, and the air was moving all the time. So it's surely possible that I got a better line.

  • @hewger

    it moves alot at trim because you induce alot of movement by reacting to slowly and to harsh, no offence, just incase anyone else wonders.

    What does brake shifting do I’ve never heard of it?

    • @dymanoid
      @dymanoid  8 місяців тому +1

      This is a technique for adjusting glider's turn behavior by pulling the brake towards your chest (between the risers) or more to the outside. You can find a nice video explanation on paraglidingforum.com about it.
