I'm attempting to diagnose/repair a severe knock on mine and found that the head bolts are 3/8 instead of 10mm. Weird; some bolts ARE metric, and the lock bolts on my valves and the exhaust pipe bolts are Torx. I got it used, don't know if someone fiddled with stuff, but this is what I'm finding. Thanks for helping me get this far: now I need to find a vid that goes into the innards.
@@JungleBobRepair The con rod bolts were loose; I need to find out what if any damage was caused. But FIRST I have to take the shaft out, and for that I need to remove the brass governor sleeve/bushing. Can you describe how to remove it? Every video on here stops at that exact point or skips over it and I need to understand it before I trash something!
@@JungleBobRepair I truly appreciate your willingness to help. You can tell I am a newbie to this, and as such didn't realize that you take the con rod cap off then slip the piston out of the cylinder. Take the oil slinger off, cam out, get the crank in just the right position, and pull. No need to pull the governor, just maneuver around it. Learning by doing!
That engine shows 2 different head gaskets and is broken down by serial number break. If the wrong one is installed it will blow in a short amount of time
Yes, the head gasket for the single cylinder Briggs and Stratton on their website. If you check further, mine is an LA 125 John Deere the number was 794114 for the head gasket exhaust gasket was a 692236 and the rocker cover if you didn’t use RTV liquid gasket repair the number is 272475. One. Sure fire sign also to know if it’s a head gasket is the fuel pump area breather, has oil around it . And yes, the eight bolts that hold the head on our a 3/8 inch nonmetric two bolts for the exhaust or a torque‘s and two air intake. Bolts should be at three eights inch as well as are the cover four bolts, the two in the front and two in the back are 3/8 inch as well, and when tightening the eight bolts back.on the head they are supposed to be 18 foot lbs or 200 inch lbs 👍
I hate the newer Deere Hoods, the wind caught one on an X300 I was servicing and it shattered, lost my arse on that job. Never again I always remove them!!!

Make sure you have the right torx wrench before trying this.
Always loosen the nut first before the locking screw with torx head.
What are the valve adjustment values
.004-.006
Nice summer feel to this one, good video Bob
haha "30 minute video on how to take off a cover" i love it, i did the same thing not even an hour ago on the same engine, it has those inserts
Good job. Sounded great.
Not a 10mm, 3/8 for head bolts. Thats why the socket jammed.

I always do (2) Re-torques. Run an hour, cool overnight then re-torque, repeat the next day. Aluminum loves to move !
Good repair Bob
