@Christopher Scott, Here are some theories about breeding fiddler crabs. Prerequisite: A) Wide and deep container B) Air-powered filter C) Undergravel filter D) Sump container You need to create a flood-bed set-up. It will contain three parts; Bell siphon, Terrestrial, Water. Section off the Bell Siphon with a plastic barrier. Drill numerous holes at the bottom to let water flow through. The rest of the set-up shall be for the Crabs. You want the water in the water section to be able to flow to the filter easily. First, drill a hole for a Uniseal or similar with a check-valve. Lay down an 'under gravel filter'. Use a plastic Duckboard/Drainage mat. Place the geotextile fabric from the plastic barrier and across the full set-up. To remove the chance of contaminants entering this section. This creates the base of the set-up for later on. For the base layer of the terrestrial area. Use Clayballs, Perlite, Sand (50%) and Gravel. Mainly to save on the sand usage. Use barrier stones to build height to the water section. This layer will be till the bottom of the bell siphon. From here, you will change the mixture to Gravel, Sand and Perlite. Build a slope from the water section till you reach a height of around 5 inches above top height of the Bell Siphon. The important point is to create a moisture gradient level between dry and moist. That can support burrows. For the water section, since it isn't nature. A thin layer of sand like you currently have. On the wall furthest away from the terrestrial section, add a slanted white mesh and stuff a lot of Salt Algae etc behind it. Light it up with blue/red LED strip during night hours. This should hopefully prevent the crabs from picking it clean. The sump should ideally be the same size so you can stand the existing enclosure onto it. Using a small aquarium pump, it shall push water back into the set-up above, into this Under gravel filter section. Causing the water to rise slowly from below. Till the bell siphon kicks in and drains the enclosure quicker than the aquarium pump can re-fill it. A slow rise, a quick drain. After that, a simple sponge filter of some sort. That will be the main filter. Sure, it will be hard to break down once breeding activity happens. But I think, this is the only way to have any Chance of success. After that, it is just a waiting game since they need to build comfort with the set-up etc. But I think the only way to succeed with animals like fiddler crabs and similar animals that live on 'coastlines' is to have a Bell Siphon set-up to create a rise and fall of water level.
I believe the life cycle of fiddler crabs prevents breeding in a small environment. They are meant to drift out to sea when larvae and when they begin growing their shell they drift back inshore.
It is very difficult to replicate the natural environment of these animals. Mainly in relation to moon phases, water salinity, and food. In nature they do not live very long, in aquariums, much less. Captive breeding is easy, the problem is keeping the larvae alive (There are techniques for this, but it's very complex to explain)
You say it's impossible... so how about replicating tide pool and or Brackish mud pools? Find a gigantic bin, fill the bin with brackish mud. Which you can find and or make and as long as there is atleast 10-15 inches of mud they should breed due to making burrows, but you can also try and find a pump that can replicate ocean water movements, I know they have made a few by a few aquarium companies, it's difficult but it'd be a better way to help them breed, you can transfer them between bins and see what happens.
Chris. you are amazing. i been trying to breed these crab myself. Is this all the ingredients list in your website for it? I will making these for next year. Im just gonna copy your set up and see if it works out. Wow...
They burrow up to 2 feet deep, so your going to need a lot more substrate than this, and you will need to be able to immitate the tide without disturbing the enclosure somehow.
@@merlin4real i tried to breed the crab but hard because they need to deshell and if cant they die. I try to at least make them live longer like i try to catch them on beach and hoping to keep them alive for months
can somebody pls help me, how much u put salt in the water for marble crabs ... ive been trying to look for it but its imposible and i wanna breed them, it jut says they need salt for breeding thats it .. doesnt say how much ..
Hi Chris! So.. I want to keep some wild saltwater crabs as pets but I have some questions first, 1: I live right next the the ocean so can I use the ocean water for the tank? When I do a tank cleaning I can just walk down to get some clean water. 2: I'm no crab expert and I don't know any types of crab so I don't really know if I should provide all water or all land or half water and half land. 3: the crabs I'm planning on catching are small and I find them under rocks, do they need a filter or do they breath air or what? Please respond, thank you
I wanted to give you a quick update on our Fiddler Crabs and build them a new enclosure! Thanks for watching!
Very cool dude
I just bred some I’m breeding more right now you need a little more mud if you want them to thrive

It might not be working because of the filter sucking in all the crab larvae. A sponge filter might be better for keeping the larvae alive
zoea need a kreisel tanks to do well, so even a sponge wouldn't work
What does a kreisel tank do?
I wanted to give it a try myself.

I love crabs. I always like catching them and letting them go at the bay.
And eat them
I like eating them.
“Old Bay” that is lol, jk, crabs are cool
I save them and shove them in my enemies drake:
You did a heck of a mighty job! I am pretty sure the crabs are very happy!😍
First time on this channel and can't believe I watch the entire video, amazing set up 10/10 😤💯
Fiddler crabs require saltwater to breed, just FYI.
I Am NEW And I love Your Videos
good job. i enjoyed that
These crabs burrow up to 2 feet deep, so if you want them to breed, your going to need a shitload more substrate.
That’s a nice setup for a musk turtle I might do this because I have one

"very complex to explain" is another saying for "I do not understand anything but I hope you think I do"
@@QuicksilverdotFX 🤔
I love it!
it's good! but they will get bigger...and you will need a bigger setup
If you have the space, could you make another one using the plastic kiddy pool from Walmart?
love it
Could you name your female fiddler crabs Hardy
would slate floor tile work? most of the stuff I can get outside is frozen to the ground now, lol.
This video was posted on my birthday :)
damn i was really rooting for this
Came from the vampire crab enclosure, man you make me wanna have a bunch of crab enclosures D: too bad the girlfriend probably would say no lol
I've used these tubs before, but they crack after 2-3 years. It's very brittle.
Love the creativity!

Halloween crabs are cooler you should show them more
👍👍👍👍👍👋
new to channel and my first video as well, love the setup its simple yet effective and most important the crabs are happy :)
Looks great 👍🏽
Any recommendations on what to do with the crab larvae so they can survive?
Will this setup work for red claw crabs too? I read that they should be on brackish water. Thanks
Love it because almost like something I asked you about 👍
I want make one of these.
With some mud and more sponge on filter.
Lets we try😊
Do the fiddler crabs need brackish water?
I know this was a year ago lol but yes, they live in brackish in nature and without salt they can't molt and will die

Hi, may I know how do you clean this sand tank? Do you need to take out all the staff and clean regularly?
another awesome video
I like the up grade
Did you and finatic have a falling out?
This is a dope setup. Debating starting something similar, hope this enclosure fairs better haha.
What filtration system did you use ?
It is good
So you pretty much made brackish water and why didn’t you use the bin from your pumpkin carb build
dude you can get the sand and stone, and plants, and plastic from outside lol
Wait are these only freshwater crabs?
How long they live ?
Found it!

@Its me or whatever :D thank you!
How about the Crabby patties....lol
They must thrive before they will breed...unless they are guppies, than they will keep breeding until it is no longer possible to thrive. Daphnia too.
daphnia dont go well with plant ferts tho sadly 😔
They need sand from their normal habitat.
My puffer would love a play date with you crabs 😁
That's a parsley bro
❤👍🇸🇾
I learned nothing about “Breeding”, this is just a look at your set up…
???
it's not good when you use Buddha statue like that
VIỆT NAM VÔ ĐỊCH
This didn’t have anything to do with breeding
Wait you're trying to breed male fiddler crabs???? Not cool man.
It is legal to kill raccoons and crows just because they are considered pests and they destroy crops so it's considered a "favor" for killing them.
NO
