    Shooting apsc mode and 24p completely defeats the whole point of having a Z8

      It would be great to have it working at the highest level, if needed however, having a mode that still allows it to be used, is fine. I’ll need to have it checked out.

    Thanks for the update. I have a Z8 on the way and am only just now seeing all the concerns online about overheating. Your video helps me be prepared ahead of time just in case w/ potential workarounds. Hope your issue gets resolved.

      Thanks for watching. South East Asia can indeed be rough for long form shooting where high temp and humidity will make things challenging. The rated specs are for much lower temps. I’ve resolved to work differently now. Cool down the space or run the AC and lower speeds after chilling the space. Resolve’s voice isolating feature aids in removing the background noise, which is very useful.

    hope you get it sorted out. Also, don't sweat the trolls. They are everywhere.

      Still a work in progress. Chiang Mai got cooler and I shot full frame and it is fine. Heading back to Malaysia where it is hotter, will see how things go.
      Yep, some folks aren’t open minded to listen to other folks concerns but, they will make theirs quite known.

    APSC or HD Mode on any camera I have never had an overheating problem. But 4k 24/30 this is a problem for the Z8. So I have also placed a fan behind my problem cameras Nikon Z30, Canon R8, etc. But the Z8 is different with the Hot Card Warning. I have seen it a couple of times when recording internally on the Nikon Z6II & Z7II. The Z7II will go to sleep if not being used and have to press the shutter button to wake up. So just in case Nikon messed up on stating Hot Card for the Z8 instead of overheating Thermometer on the Zf I placed the fan blowing on the back of this camera and it disappeared. On BOTH Cameras. It makes me suspicious when I see a fixable thing and it is mislabeled. Today when Car Vlogging my Sony ZV-1M2 overheated at the end but still the file was shut down in time before the camera was turned off. Same thing happened to the ZV-E10. With the Canon Cameras on the newer ones it give a warning thermometer when getting hot. That is why I like the Zf. So just blowing air across the camera will keep it from overheating even in Hot Climates where we are living now. In my case it is Texas. The problem is that I have taken out the SD & CFexpress cards and I still get a warning. I have never went into HD since this is 8k/4K. I did put it in crop mode a couple of times to test out APSC Lenses and using the 100-400mm telephoto lens with the teleconverters to see if it works which it did and guess what. No Hot Card Warning. But I was shutting it off now and then while setting up for another scene. As always Wayne you do the right thing and your way. I agree that you have to test it out yourself to find out what works and what doesn't. My camera has never been back to Nikon for any repairs. Now I am worried. But I do not have this camera in the studio anymore because of the other cameras that stay there in different studios around the house. So when I start seeing the problem with the camera I just turn it off and let it cool down a bit. I just been taking a lot of photos and few video recordings. So my workflow has not suffered. Great Investigating Wayne! Cheers!

      Hi Randall, Nikon updated to location of the hot card warning to the top right of the display and hot camera is still on the left side. On the Zf, I could see hot camera before card as the SD doesn’t heat up as much as CFe B. I’ll have the shop look at it as I’m back in Malaysia, it’s odd that it’s getting hot and the web cam functionality no longer works since it went in for service.

    Was it Nikon that repaired? Did they remove the heat shield? Yea but you don’t spend 4k plus all the other accessories to use apsc mode! It’s crazy that you are standing for that.

      Yep, it was a Nikon repair center, I don’t know what is involved in checking the issues mentioned on the service advisory. I cannot say with any certainty it was something that occurred there, this is just speculation. Both the webcam function and the camera getting hot occurred after the visit. I want to conduct further tests to be sure. I plan on taking it back for them to check.

    When did you buy the camera? Maybe its possible its a bad batch?

    • @waynerm002
      @waynerm002  7 місяців тому +1

      It's part of the first batch. It is really hot over here, with high humidity. That combined in a warm space doesn't help things. I'll see how it goes with more testing.

      @@georgieb.4278 Heat here in South East Asia can feel like Phoenix AZ, not up to 115-120 degrees though. Don't miss the summers there. Love it in San Deigo, the temps are certainly nicer by the water.

    Hi Wayne, My thoughts use a fully charged battery in place before using as a desktop solution. USB charging causes heat at the best of times and in place in a water proof body/ Plus all the other video demands. ?? Slow USB-C charging cables. Have a great day.

      Hi Mike, I updated all my cables to USB4/TB4 back in ‘21 when I got the M1 Mac and have used the camera on live streams for a couple of hours, with the card inside. The more I think about it, to more I’m recalling that things worked well before the service visit. Malaysia and Chiang Mai is about the same temp, the camera didn’t shut down during setup or show hot card or camera warnings in Malaysia. If you recall, I got hot card/camera warnings during the 8.3K RAW recording to the 1TB card where the camera shut down at 20 minutes of recording.
      I’ll test here in Malaysia to see how it performs. I do plan on visiting the shop to let them know what I have been experiencing but. I’ll load the webcam software in my wife’s machine to see if it also doesn’t work there, to make sure it isn’t my machine that’s the issue.

      I have an Angelbird AV Pro SE, Exascend Essential, both 1TB a Lexar 128GB and an OWC Atlas Pro 4.0 256GB. The card in the Camera at the time was the Exascend Essential, works quite well.
