This is not hyperbole. You’re the best at this kinda channel and footage. I’ve watched maybe every UA-camr who’s doing both the drone operation and the grading and you all knock it out both in the technical and entrainment departments!

The importance of being able to film in 10-bit. I’m so glad DJI added this feature on the Mini 3 Pro. Make such huge difference for me. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
Another great video from the most trusted aerial photography channel! There are so many Mini 3 clickbait and poorly executed "tests" at the moment, thanks for being professional and reliable!
Stewart, as someone who is trying to educate himself about all this stuff and who has a mini 3 "finally" scheduled to arrive tomorrow I really appreciate you breaking this 10-bit upgrade down to a level I can understand. Well done!
This is the kind of info I actually need. It’s amazing what the Mini 3 Pro is able to deliver. Image quality is one of its strengths. Top-tier quality for a mini drone!
Great video. Very informative. I just bought the mini 3 primarily for indoor use, being around people and animals. Very quiet. It was the 10 bit that sold me. Seems like a great addition to the shooting arsenal.
Finally can conclude I need this drone. It’s only Mini 3 Pro’s first firmware update yet and so far it’s making significant upgrades. I’ll see this tiny but mightier drone real soon!!!
Less noise because the blacks were absolutely crushed into oblivion, easily visible by the shadows taking on a purple hue. Infinitely more Data being captured on the other drones
Thanks for the awesome video!! I currently am running a Mavic Air 2. I was thinking about selling off to upgrade to a 2s, Mavic 3, or mini pro 3. The lack of d-log is super concerning for me in comparison to the former two options. I'll be backpacking (out of an 85L pack) for year abroad though, so the 249g restriction lift regardless of location would save much headache that I've gone through in the past. I also am of course a fan of the vertical gimbal (something I am hoping that the Mavic Air 3 will include). I often fly in the mountains (Swiss Alps) or between islands over water in SE Asia. I've never used something so light so the wind would certainly make me nervous, not only for the sake of durability, but also for the integrity of the shot as I've seen mixed results in terms of smooth footage on windy days with the mini 3. Would you mind adding your input on what route I should go? Thanks!!
When I heard the Mini 3 pro had only 8bit video I disappointed then I heard the new firmware update put it at 10bit I was still skeptical but glad I found this video. 🙌🏻
Great testing of the 8 bit footage against the 10 bit. You so a good job at explaining these technical details to us non professionals. This added features really does make the Mini 3 a Pro drone. Thanks for sharing this important information with us.
It is far from being a pro! Remember that this 10bit is based on a 256 colors divided by 1024 and codec at 10bit. That is what I show on this video, it only show the same dynamic range from both colors/gray values divided. A camera with true 10bit you will not see the low frequency. Basically is a 8bit with a container of 10bit. This is very common in the video world. Also the color space looks like ais 4:2:0 compression. Most important about any footage is how well exposure it is and how much definition the lens can let light pass true. It is easy to use a filter to convert 8bit data to even 64bit.
Feel free to tell me I´m wrong (I would like to be) but I heard that there is actually not more dynamic range in the 10 bit dcinelike, just more colour depth. So you can avoid banding, but not really recover more of blown out highlights etc. Considering the compressed histogram I would like to think there is more room for editing but I also found that there is a LOT of noise in the darker areas with dcinelike.
I had a debate with a guy over 10 bit and 8 bit and he was saying all kinds of things as to why you don’t need anymore than 8bit, I just said 10 bit allows you to get more info in the lowlights/shadows and bring them up and even though we can’t see it with our eyes natively you certainly can see it in post when you bring up those dark shadows.
For sure. You don't need raw photography either but it is amazing compared with editing jpegs so if you're at that stage you definitely want it. Same for 10-bit video. Gets us a little bit closer to raw video which, again, for those who are so inclined, certainly brings benefits.
Thanks for that comparison. It’s exactly what I wondered while waiting for my Mini 3 (should be here within the week). I’m very curious to see the Air 2S and Mini 3 compared in detail as I’m so familiar with the Air 2S and find it amazing for grading.
@@MarkusGebhard It's interesting, I prefer working with the Air 2S files in post since it has a very flat log profile. But the video quality after the fact is next to impossible to tell apart between the two drones. The DR on the Air2S should be better but I haven't been able to see a big benefit of it.
Nobody is EVER going to have this level of acute eyesight required to differentiate between over 1bn colours, at least not until humans and robots can be combined. As previously stated, you have provided us with the most comprehensive guide to this new drone, but haven't bombarded us with info and specifications. I've ignored all the other M3P videos, and only used yours to learn from. Thanks again.
Interesting comparison, thank you! But comparing shadows we measure rather noise level and dynamic range. Low color depth in this case you can see only in histogram as sharp peaks. In this test I prefer Air 2S, it gives more details and less noise even comparing with Mavic 3, banding there is just noise reduction, which is not a problem for the case. I think, filming low contrast scene (e.g. in fog, or gray sky) with following strong increase of contrast will give more representative results of color depth level.
This kind of content sets you apart from all the cr*p other so called drone vloggers put out. Talking about signal strength and range tests from their back garden (flying beyond vlos regularly) Great work Stewart. I struggle with colour grading and would buy a lut pack tomorrow if I knew how to use it. But only from you, trusted source!
Thank you for this very interesting video! I don't know with which hybrid you filmed but the difference in colorimetry between your hybrid and the mini 3 is enormous! Contrast, color depth there must be 2 to 3 stops difference... Maybe a Sony given the skin color tints -) All the best from France

Great video ! DO you have any video about the digital zoom quality ? I have an M2Pro and in love with the 40mm focal length HQ video mode. WOuld love if the Mini3 2x digital zoom would have a similar quality... Any hints ? Thanks
What DJI did was simple, they divided the 8bit captured of 256 levels by 0.25 to get the fake 10bit of 1024 levels and applied a filter to blend the 0.25 together. The Noise you see is not the 10bit and yeas poor sensor capabilities for low light capture. Remember that more bits means nothing if the capture is poor, you are just pushing more pixels around from the 256/1024. True 10bit you will get better controls of the colors and dynamic if the data is there when the camera captured. DJI could make this fake 10bit even better if the apply a anti-blocking filter between the 0.25 slices. 🍕
I did exactly same thing and I’m happy enough. Missing the optical zoom and wind ressistance. My only reason for this choice were the flight restrictions

Why are you expecting a higher bit depth to give you greater dynamic range? It just gives you a broader spectrum of colour information.
