Wow my grandfather had a 318 I love small tractors I watched all 6 videos this was cool to watch thank you
Well done. I enjoyed watching the build. You gave that little Deere new life.
Colton & Peyton's Grandpa I wouldnt say little.. 318’s still dwarf most lawn tractors like craftsman, cadets, or entry level deeres the average home owner purchases
@@jhurley12
I think he was comparing it to the big Deere farm tractors.
Awesome 👍 good job on the restoration.
Nice job love the green lights
Wow this is amazing I wish I could do something like this I just spend as long as it took to watch all of the videos about the 318 rebuild process and I was not dissatisfied nor disappointed… god job !!!!!
WoW ! Your 318 is Gorgeous ! I have one but now you have given me Inspiration , Thank You
Looking really sharp!
Nice job! Thats one slick tractor!
Nice upgrade and refresh for that tractor! Good job!
Awesome! Well done. I plan on a briggs 23 repower on my 420. My brother did a briggs swap on a dually rear, hydro converted 67 simplicity landlord, and im jealous! The LEDs you added are sweet!
Looks like Brand New!!! Good work!
Great job man beautiful tractor
You're the man 😀 that's the best build I have seen and on one of the few true King tractors
Turned out great.
Looks great! I am ready to pull the trigger on 23 Vanguard.
I wish I had the patience to restore one that nice!
Superb.
Overhead valve engine is so much quieter than the old flatheads.
A bit envious here.
Congratulations, and well done. Pass that down to your grandson, but only if he proves he's worthy.
Now you need to mow the grass with it
In reviews the recommendations are leaving the side covers off for cooling on the vanguard. Let me know the adjustment for the creeping my 420 should be the same even though a two speed rear.
very nice
Awesome
How did you wiring the extra lights? Tied into the light wires? I’m rebuilding my 400 and curious
Congrats!!! Do you notice on your 23 HP Vanguard that the starter motor vibrates against the engine block a little?? Mine does. It also seems to run cooler with the side panels off.
Where are you getting the arm rest’s from ? Can ya give me the info with part numbers ,, been looking for them and haven’t been able to find them.. thanks in advance..
I'd like to pick a 318 up later
here question how the power steering work at the wheel?
is it amplyfing power or its just a power transfer to the cylinder ?
I always like the 318! Nice job! Are they are other models with similar feature....drive shaft r, hydraulics in 300s?
Hey buddy, you pull any implements with this yet? How's she running? I was looking at a 2 or 3 bottom moldboard plow and the extra HP from the vanguard down the line will come in handy.
Not me personally... the new owner uses it for mowing and plowing snow, never breaks a sweat. He brought it over about 1 month ago for a check-up.
I also installed 23 hp Vangard in 318, works great. My question is why the oil cooler, I do not have one but I run without side shields. It was suggested to run without shields. I don't believe mine runs hot.
Are you sure you don’t have one? It might be mounted on the flywheel shroud. And I would take the advice to run without shields if you don’t have one. Moving the oil cooler away from the engine just helps keep temperatures somewhat lower.
now i want to make 1 tractor of my own 4 wheel drive xD
im getting an onan engine this weekend because dual cylinder engine are hard to find for resonable price
though it need repair but for the price its a good deal
Hey I really liked how you did that to your 318. I myself have a 214 and was wondering if the tires you’re using will fit my 214’s wheels
I think the 214 wheels are too narrow. These were 23 12 12 tires
@@BobWilson84 I have a 330 now!
Hey, I saw your video about the 650, and what size tires did you have on that
Hey warren. The wheels and tires were a standard skid-steer size. I had custom spacers made for the back spacing and bolt pattern. If you search mytractorforum for that project I believe I explained it all. Let me know if you can’t find it.
which is the size of the rear tires
Did you have to do anything to the hydraulic cylinders?
Nope, they were actually in great shape. The chrome finish on the pistons was clean and the seals didn't leak.
Hi Bob. Nice job on the vanguard 318. I've just ordered a 23hp from Jims and I was wondering if the oil/hydro cooler is needed? I have an '83 and the powerplant starts and runs well but the oil leaks and regular maintenance is growing a beard. I'll be mowing the lawn and prolly pushing snow is all
I only did the remote cooler as an exercise of overkill. I’m sure you’ll be fine with the stock coolers. Did you buy the whole kit?
@@BobWilson84 I did. I may get an aftermarket PTO but mine is good. I just like the looks of your Oguna. (Overkill is just enough). Thanks for the answer. In the meantime I did in fact find out that the Vanguard has a cooler. Time will tell if I'll ever need one.
@@deansterry6773 It's probably the shroud-mounted oil cooler. I'm sure that'll work well for ya. good luck on the project.
Dry nice! I’m not to sure I like the radiator in the back not being able to use the PTO. I’d take it though! HA!
Hey Bruce, yep the rear PTO is not an option on this rig. I never owned a 300-series rear PTO attachment so won’t be an issue for me!
BobWilson84 Gotcha!
The wiring did you leave any of the original, like the solid state box?
On this one I removed the time delay module.
@@BobWilson84 yes the time delay module is what I was talking about. I replaced mine several years ago. It had something to do with my rear pto engagement but can't remeber. It was expensive, I should have removed it
@@johnhall1614 Yep, I have a 322 with a TDM that randomly killed the ignition. It's one of those safety devices that has the best of intentions with overly complicated designs. I think having a PTO switch that prevents starting is prob the most important next to the neutral safety switch which both can be wired without the TDC. -as I did on this one.
How are you using the front PTO? What could you drive off a vertical belt??
The front PTO on most garden tractors is arranged in this manner.... or any machine when the crankshaft is horizontal. Different brands solve this issue different ways. Deere, Cub Cadet, Kubota etc. all used a “mule” drive or similar belts and pulleys to bring the belt to the bottom for a mower deck, or down the front for a snow blower etc. most newer tractors just have a mess of pulleys and springs and junk to route the belts. hope that makes sense.
@@BobWilson84 Yes it does. Thanks!
You only briefly touched on the flywheel modification you had to do. You said in the clutch video you would go into more detail in the next video but you didn’t. I would have liked to see that.
Hey Steven. The only thing I did to the flywheel was install a stub shaft and cut a hole in the screen.... I’m nearly certain I documented that in a previous video..... if not, many apologies
You did touch on it some. Did you buy the stub shaft or make it?
Can you add a voodoo exhaust to it?
Where did you get the seat mine needs one. You did an amazing job, thanks for sharing.
Yo, I think eBay of all places
@@BobWilson84 does it have a part #. I have looked at several
@@johnhall1614 There's one manufacture making all of the imported units on eBay and Amazon. Just pick one and you'll be set
Oops I see you already did that !
I have a 420, could you send me pics of the battery mounts. Also I'd add a fan to the front
Hi Robert. I ordered the battery mount today, just the Deere factory parts. I too considered a fan in the front to help push the hot air and also provide cooling after the engine is off. I may add that in the future.
BobWilson84 Beat put it on the bottom as the tractor was designed to pull air up from the bottom and out the front grill. Doesn’t seem like it, but that’s how the air flow is.
@@66Oliver yes I know that's the way the air flows. The fan in front would be pulling heat or add deflectors to each side. Briggs says dont use the sides in the heat but winter should be fine.
Well now it needs a stereo.
Do this to my 322
Na, you’re much farther ahead to tune-up that Yanmar 3TN
@@BobWilson84 I'm more thinking paint and lights!
I would rig up a small 12 volt fan for the hydraulic radiators .
141974,
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Just had to doosh it all up with the gaay lights BS.
