I am also in Texas and so I try to take advantage of your experience. I found Hoss because of you and absolutely love them. I like reviews as before I purchase things I like to see what others think of it. There is nothing wrong with making some money sharing your experiences. As long as they are honest I think they are helpful for people considering the product. Many UA-camrs do the same thing so don't feel bad. I do like your garden videos and I am hoping to growing bigger onions and tomatoes than you next year.. lol.. so keep those coming. I have a version of your greenhouse out back as well. I saw that comment and thought it was rather unfair.

Wowzers Alan! You are an awesome teacher... I look for your links and appreciate that you place them there.. it has helped me find and use... just like the anti-freeze drip for a hose... and boy has that saved ourselves from the pain of freezing and breaks!!
Timers, Hoss stuff- we got one of the raised beds because of you!! And about 1/2 price I might add! We have found many products that HELPED us and not once did I feel you sold out, or was tempting us for your own gain! Good on you for getting some payment for your efforts and sharing wirh us!!

Hey Alan, thank you so much for your videos and no, it has not too “commercial”!! I like the product reviews. It lets me see all that’s out there and if it will work for me. You are one of the content creators responsible for me getting started in gardening. I have 10 wicking tubs in my backyard, 5 of them have prime ark freedom blackberries planted in them and a couple of raised beds.

Don’t change. I have found your videos to be helpful and useful. You will always have somebody that complains. Sometimes out of jealousy, sometimes to have something to complain about. Just ignore them, the internet has many channels to choose from and the choice is theirs so they need to use their gift of freedom of choice.
Fairly new to your channel and I am thankful I found it. I often intentionally let the commercials play to the end because I believe that helps pay for the wonderful content. A worker is worth his wages! All the best.

I love your videos and I have been taught a lot by a man who's knowledge I trust. Your videos, all of them are a break from the garbage and fowl language that people feel like they have to post. You have not become "too commercial" (whatever that means). The problem I have found, as someone who has dabbled in sales, is that these same people who complain about "too much commercialism" are the first to run to wally world or Amazon and buy a bunch of cheap chinese made garbage. But heaven forbid a friend share something with them that they like and use. You are more than fine. Just keep sharing your gardening and homesteading knowledge and when you find a product or supplier you like please share it with us.
I live in north Texas and you have been an inspiration for last few years we have followed you. I respect you for posting this video and I do not think you should changed your products you promote. I have purchased some of those products, thank you sir.

I’ve been here a while and have always appreciated your videos, whether it be some technique or application that you are doing. Or demo of a product. On any channel that shows a product that they are using, I will usually go to the desc and see if there is a link to Amazon or whatever company sells the product. I never thought that you were being to commercialized. But the way that YT has been inserting ads throughout a video can get annoying. I try to let the ads play, but it gets really bad when a 4 min video will have 2-3 ads that wind up running longer than the video itself! Anyway, appreciate all that you do for the community by spreading your knowledge. It’s always helpful! Thank you and have a blessed day!

I am your neighbor over here in Upshur County. I have been watching your videos and am a subscriber for several years, even though my farming and gardening is only in my memories and in my dreams. I have never felt that your channel has been too commercial. in fact, you have gone out of your way to be transparent about your relationships with "sponsors". On the other hand, I appreciate your struggle in this post. It just shows the attempt to be even more open and transparent and I think you have it just about right. You think you are old??? Wait til you are 91 as I am now!!!

I dig the just talking video. And I think that you should continue doing what you’re doing commercial or not. I haven’t watched some of the more recent videos, but I’ve never in all the years that I’ve been following your channel have I ever thought that you were too commercialized. All of your videos have been an incredible wealth of knowledge, and very helpful in several of my own aspects of gardening and prepping, and other homesteading tasks. I will say that it is rather refreshing to hear a UA-cam channel person be so blatantly, honest about income and how everything operates. But like I said, continue doing what you’re doing, you have IMO, one of the best UA-cam channels available, period.

Alan, You are the reason I have enjoyed growing blackberries. lI watched on of your postings and got hooked. The only negitive I have had was this last growing seasson. Mother nature did me in. It was just to hot and dry. The years before then was very productive and my wife made a whole bunch of jelly from the berries. My favorate blackberry to this day is yours also. My FREEDOMS were the best producing plants and as you do, I highly recommend this variety. I am happy to shop Amazon and give you mailbox money every chance I get. Please don't let the light headed negitive viewers get to you. There are more of us who appreciate you and your sharing knowledge with us. We need your voice and God bless you for sharing. These days every little bit helps. Plus, you provide good, honest information and take the time and effort to show us products. I see nothing wrong with making a little money off that.
I cant afford to buy anything at all right now, but i know that when i can, I'm coming to your channel for reference. That time may not come until I have to live with my daughter and her family (my age, disability).
I don't know how far away you are from me (NE San Antonio) so I'm not sure what products would work for me here. I'm in a neighborhood (suburb) with cruddy soil.

Been watching for along time. Around 10 years. Your garden, raising different animals, everyday things around the homestead, your singing to your talks. There are very few channels that don’t have commercials these days. As long as you have been on here and with the great content. Sponsorships and products are going to come your way. The commenter probably jealous. There channel not doing as well. And after this many years content gets hard to come up with. Channels I hate are the ones that start out buy my stuff I’m trying to make a living here. Sorry it’s long and rambling. You do you. God bless. Be careful with the opinions. Your advertising doesn’t bother me and if it benefits you, I don’t blame you at all. Making videos and reviewing products is very time-consuming. Your time is valuable, and you should earn commissions for your work. Your videos are honest and very informative. I've been following you for some time and your few ads don't bother me at all. All UA-cam channels have ads unless the subscriber elects to purchase ad free videos.

I’ve only been watching you for a short time, and I rarely comment on things, but I have to say, that Guy was wrong. Videos like yours, with recommendations and ads have changed my life. I became a pond builder (after also being retired) because of them posting their products. When I got into gardening, my life changed when Mark from Self Sufficient Me showed me the Birdies raised beds and where to find them. Recommendations for products from those that use them is extremely important. Because of channels like yours, I’ve been able to learn something new and share it with my sons who are grown. It gives me another connection with them in this role of father of adult sons (they are all partners in our water feature business). My oldest son bought me a greenhouse tunnel from watching videos and knowing that it would be good for me. Sure the ads and things aren’t what we watch for, but they are important. Thanks for all you do.

I have enjoyed your videos for a couple of years now. I think you should get all the mail box money you can get. I hate commercials! I have 3 UA-cam channels and 2 of them were subscribed to this channel. This channel hadn’t shown any of your videos in awhile, so I typed you in manually in the search bar. I RE SUBSCRIBED. I guess UA-cam did that. 🤷🏼♂️

Hey Alan. I don't see anything commercial about your videos. My only gripe is UA-cam breaking into the video every few minutes to run one of their commercials, but that's UA-cam, not you. I've always viewed your videos as a friend/neighbor giving you valuable information and advice about something I'm wanting to learn about. In my case, it's blackberries - and you seem to be the guru on that subject here. The things/tools that you've featured on your videos have been things that you found valuable and work-saving. Some of them I bought for myself, such as that tool that hastens plants to the trellis. I can never remember what it's called, but I think it's a great addition to my garden tools and I use it regularly.
You're dispensing information that we find valuable, or else we wouldn't be watching the videos. The person that you were talking about, complaining about it, obviously found value in your videos also, or else he wouldn't have been watching for the last 6 years. I don't see a thing wrong with what you're doing. You're dispensing information that we find valuable, so you should be compensated for it. UA-cam certainly subjects us to plenty of advertising before we get to the videos, so they can certainly afford to give you your share of the revenue. But we sit through the ads because we want to get to the information that you're going to share with us. I think you should continue to do videos the way that you have been, but this is just my opinion.
As for one video that I would love to see from you... How about getting the self wicking pots ready for winter? That would be a very useful video.

I found your channel on December 1, 2013 so just a bit longer than the 6 year guy. I do NOT feel you are too commercialized. I have noticed lately that youtube is playing quite a bit more ads during the videos than before (not just your but all of them). Could this be what the guy was having an issue with? I am happy that you get some benefit to the reviews that you do. It is a lot of work to put out videos. I have no problems with you mentioning your "sponsors" in your videos either ( or putting links in them). I say to keep up what you are doing because I think most of your subs have zero problem with you making money any way you can.

I think you are over thinking this you are not forcing anybody to buy anything you are a teacher. Teaching people about gardening and especially growing blackberries so you are making a little money more power to you.
Alan, You do you, it's your channel. I'll still watch your videos and recommend your channel when people people mention they need "something" (to get rid of fire ants for example). Maybe some of your Just talkin' videos can be reminders and useful tips and tricks of stuff people need to get ready to do, planning the garden layout, ordering seeds, starting seedlings and the like. Just an idea that I don't see a lot of people doing until it's time to do stuff.

I've been watching for about 4 years. I have noticed more promotional aspects in your videos recently, but I thought it was good. Good for you, an older guy making use of technology to make money and obviously gaining a following as sponsors and affiliates look for people they believe in to promote.
I'd love a video about setting up a YT channel as I'm interested in doing that soon.

I don't mind people advertising products in their videos if they truly believe in the product. I do have a problem with the amount of ads UA-cam themselves run on videos, its so annoying! I have to say you don't look 71, all the best.

Personally i like the product plugs and links for things you have used and liked. this reminds me it is winter and i need to order another one of those hose bib drippers.... besides... a link to something useful is much easier to search for that blindly going to the internet and attempting to search for the purple wigget with special corn sheller.... lol adjust but dont change much!!! I live in California and never heard of wicking tubs, grow bags, or earth boxes. Is this due to the summer heat you have in Texas but not needed in California? Also, when I visit my son in Pearland, Texas, I don't see any gopher mounds. Is it too hot for gophers in Texas?

Hoss seems to have some pretty decent products ... I started to order some groceries from Walmart today and just have them delivered for $9.99 But just before the "place order" button It said recommended driver's tip $100 ?! I've watched you for years. Not all your shows but the ones that peaked my interest. When I watch videos its usually seeking knowledge. I like linked items to things that are discussed in the video. I often shop around but if your link is of the quality that I want and not much more in price, as in a few dollars or a percent, I would purchase through your link because you earned it. Alan, thank you upfront for being honest in your opinion. As a fellow East Texan there's not a lot of people who are that way (in the world). I've enjoyed your channel for the past several years now and welcome the knowledge that you share with us (as a community). This stuff that you share is "Uncommon Knowledge". Not taught nor printed or shown (normally) in video (PBS). So from a place of learning, you hit the mark. I believe that you are surely entitle for recompense for your time. That includes the Mailbox Money you mention. From one of those on a fixed income I understand this and believe Whole Heartedly that you are entitled to that for the service's that you provide. Not everyone has the time to do this and share this knowledge with the masses. So again, Thanks!
