Afterburner II Longplay (Saturn) [60 FPS]: Sega's Saturn console delivers a perfect port of their classic arcade game! Read the video description for my review!
man i remember as a kid my dad coming back home with a console , i was disappointed it was the playstation 1 , it was the sega master system 2 it had this game alex the kid and wonder boy . i hooked it up and holy shit i was blown away by after burner . glad i got to play sega
I liked your review! :) Just one thing, are you sure of this: "Saturn version trumps the arcade thanks to running at a consistent 60 fps, even during the more taxing canyon/strafing-run sections (which appeared to drop to 30 on the original arcade version)" ? That would be cool. Plus you said improved colors and more handy gameplay... Well, I guess I should also compare both versions by myself but you made me want to purchase this version :)
If you check out my longplay of the arcade version, you'll see a noticeable drop in frame-rate on the strafing runs that don't happen on the Saturn version. The developers manged to make the OutRun conversion run at a solid 60 FPS (since the arcade ran at 30), so I assume they made some tweaks to this game as well :) As for the controls - it's been tailored for a Joypad, so it's much easier to control than the original analogue stick (at least that's what I found).
I did and ye, the Saturn version seems smoother during the bonus stages (the canyon sections) and also during some transitions. About the controls though, some people would say that the fact the jet now holds its current position makes it less accurate, but it could be more handy. Now I wonder how the Saturn version of Galaxy Force II exactly compare to the arcade original. The port apparently run at 30 FPS but beside this, it seems rather good, especially for a port developed by a third party and, surprisingly enough, a western company, Appaloosa Interactive, of the Ecco the Dolphin fame.
i like to think you play as the bad guy in this game. I mean you shoot villages on the ground lol. Your victms think they are safe by hiding in a canyon but nooooo.

30 years old and still amazing to play.
Played this so many times in the arcade. Awesome soundtrack as well.
The Saturn is definitely the best sounding console I know. :-)
Took a 32 bit Saturn in 1996 to get up there with the original 1987 x board arcade graphics. Shows how good that platform was

Nunca puede faltar Afterburner en una consola de SEGA

I also have the Saturn version. Its great!!! Some say the 32x version is better, But I cant believe that..!!
I noticed the arcade version is a tad bit faster, or is it me?
@@AL82RetrogamingLongplays Use the mission stick, it's as close to an analog stick as it can get in terms of the "arcade aesthetics"
How you manage to not getting shot down is beyond me!😮
is this the game that played by John connor in T2?
12:39 If you do a barrel roll when the refuel tanker arrives, it barrel rolls with you. LOL
Fire fire

I have my copy of After Burner 2 for Sega Genesis
This version is very close to the arcade version.
Looks as good as the Arcade version! The Saturn is probably one of the most underrated home consoles.
8:37 outrun 🚕
Did you play this on an emulator or on actual hardware? Still trying to see the differences between emulator and actual hardware.
Emulators even to this day are choppy and are way below the actual hardware's output, this must be original hardware that has been upscaled.
@@thatretrocattt lmao, shows what you know, emulators today have made excelent progress and some can even play better then original hardware.
@@Adam-nc6qg nah man emulators suck a s s.
Is this one hard to get?😊
I think this is the best After Burner port, but the only thing I don't like is that Sega used CD audio instead YMF292.
Fire fire *lanza un misil*

Ha! I like that, makes the game even more badass -- Just one guy taking out a whole army :)
