Any video that mentions Xmen vs Street fighter on the Saturn gets an automatic thumbs up from me lol. I remember turning that bad boy on for the first time, my jaw hit the floor. Id sit friends down and show them this one and assert over and over again how great the Saturn was. It's hard to explain what made Capcom 2d fighters so special (arcade perfect) on Saturn to people who weren't there at the time. But Lord showed two of the best and I'm sure he's gonna deliver the knock out blows in part 2, keep up the great work !!
Policenauts is such a great game! I'm glad you covered it. Also it's worth mentioning that the Saturn version is the best edition of the game as the cutscenes run at a higher frame rate, is uncensored and contains bonus content once you beat the game.

I think Sakura Taisen is a worthy import, because there are translation guides available, and it's worth seeing what this huge Sega Saturn phenomenon was all about that we never even got. It's not a bad strategy game, either.
dude you're the one that made me get back into saturn collecting, i stopped for a couple years because I just couldnt afford to get games and now I have an awesome job and I have bought a lot of the games I have had on my wishlist for a while. to my surprise not a lot of games really went up a lot in price some even went down a little. I gotta get me a copy of battle garegga though, I am a huge toaplan fanboy so of course I gotta get the Cave, and 8ing games too. Thanks for sparking my passion for the system again.
Nice video. It should be noted that there a 2 revisions of the Japan Out Run release. The 1st revision of the game will not run on the second Saturn model (the models with the round buttons) but runs fine on first Saturn models (the models with oval buttons). The 2nd revision of the game runs on all Saturn models. The problem is that the only difference to identify the 1st/2nd revision is the number printed on the CD: GS-9110P-01050-P = 1st revision, GS-9110P-01050A-P = 2nd revision.

Never seen Vampire Saviour running on a Saturn before (I'm assuming WITH the ram cart), it is so much smoother than the PS1 version I had at the time it is actually still impressive to watch (picked it up for a fiver and then waited for the Dreamcast version that lets you switch to a proper 2 round system and has all the characters from both arcade versions.) You mention the high-price of retro gaming, and with a ton of the Saturn must haves being nearly-arcade-perfect arcade conversions, you should do a video about which ones are worth paying (sometimes) around $100 for, and compare them to ones where its better getting a rom on MAME or FinalBurn Alpha. Something like Outrun, for the collector, is worth it (love that 60fps mode and the remixed music), but for a lot of of the 2D fighting games the CD audio is only the arcade music recorded onto disc like the Mega CD Mortal Kombat was, not a full arrange soundtrack, and even with the 4MB ram cart cuts some frames and has slowdown. Hell, some games have terrible conversions and its best to stick with the emulators 100% (Rad Mobile, Outrunners even though that was on MegaDrive not Saturn, etc...) Something for the other collectors like me that want to know what the best looking and playing version of the game is, and not just the rarest most expensive one or a 'full set.'
I'm really not much for fighting games but Vampire Savior is awesome. Sometimes I get caught watching the gorgeous animation. Darkstalker series is by far my favorite fighter.

I started collecting for the Sega Saturn last year, and getting imports was the main reason why I got one. The local retro game store gave me Vampire Savior for free when I bought an American Saturn there. I eventually got a Action Replay cart for the very reason why I go after imports on Saturn. Too bad I'll never get my hands on owning a personal copy of Radiant Silvergun. But anyway, looking out for part 2.
Want to know why the music on necronomicon is so good? God himself, aka John Petrucci (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment) did some tracks for this game. I remember being a teenager and the internet in its infancy, listening to :10 clips at a time, just to hear what Petrucci was doing. Love it, dude! 3/4 of my Saturn collection is made up of Japanese releases purely based off of your videos and reviews :) So many reasons to buy them too - they are cheaper, the cases are easier to replace, there's plenty of exclusives and most of the games (other than rpg's) are english friendly. Funny you should mention "Shining Force 3" reproductions as mine is arriving today from Etsy - also based on your recommendation ;-) Looking forward to part 2! Maybe review DOA and SF Zero 3 in the next vid?

Saturn Japan is a treasure trove of games. Some good games are Bulk Slash, Wachenroder, Wizardry LLylgamyn Saga(can turn language to English), Stellar Assault SS, Shadows of the Tusk (turn language to English), Steam Hearts(pc engine version is hentai), Terra Diver (published by EA, bastards never released it in the US), Battle Garegga, Shienryu(came out on PS1 but it is garbage version, saturn was japan only and better) and Hyper Duel
Great list. I got my copy of Layer Section complete for about $45 a couple years ago. Galactic Attack, on the other hand, was well over $100 around the same time. Also, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge remains my favorite Saturn fighting game. Would love to pick up the Japanese entry to the series that you show here.

Policenauts is one of my all time favorite games! There is a fanmade english patch for the PSX and Saturn version! I also love Snatcher on Sega CD. Like Policenauts, it is also made by Hideo Kojima! =D
Japan exclusive game: Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny -- this is a robotic battle game in full 3D battlefield. More than 1 mobile suit are in the fight at the same time. This is what you cannot find in PS1. Syutokou Battle '97 -- One of the best racing game in Saturn. Very stable frame rate and acceptable drawing distance.
Wow, I didn't even know about Saturn Bomberman Fight! Definitely going on my must own list. This is a great list, overall, I want to add one of my own: Megaman 8. The Saturn version of the title is easily the best version, but a North American copy will run you the upwards of $120, however, I've seen important copies go for as little as $35
Two of my favorite imports that I never see mentioned are Keio Yugekitai, a beautiful platformer sequel to Keio Flying Squadron on the Sega CD, and Elevator Action Returns, a brilliant sequel to the classic coin-op. Not sure what they go for these days but both are well worth playing.
I second Keio, probably one of my favorite platformers ever-epic and varied gameplay from start to finish. Elevator Action is expensive nowadays, but it also lives on the PS2 Taito comps.
@@SevenCompleted Many of us bought these games long before prices got to where they are now. I picked up both Keio Yugekitai and Elevator Action Returns for less than $40 each. It's silly to omit games just because they're pricey now. I bought AES Metal Slug X brand new for $285. It's now worth thousands. Does that mean it should never be spoken of? Besides, there are mod chips and Action Replay carts for non-collectors that would just like the opportunity to play these games.

Bomberman Fight is stunning, for me more fun than any Bomberman around. Saturn has 20-30 japanese exclusives that we can't loose. Think Yooga Laylee team mocked this console making a bad figure today.. P.s. X-Men Vs Steet Fighter and King The spirits II are magic also for their particular camera angles and for another reason: they are two of the greatest videogames ever.

If Shining Force 3 ever got a fully translated and complete release with all three parts in the west on the likes of Xbox One, PS4 and more I would very likely buy the game ASAP. It's a game that's long over due and really should be available to a wider audience.
I ordered the Japanese Outrun for myself just a few days ago. Bought it from a Japanese seller through Amazon. I think I paid about 40 bucks in dollars so not bad considering your 50 dollar benchmark.
Another benefit to importing is Japanese gamers take better care of their stuff. All the used games I've gotten are generally in superior condition from the packaging to the discs. Some games will even still include the spine cards for completion sake.

I'm going to have to bite and get a copy of Shining Force III (complete) on etsy. I have owned the North American retail release for years and downloaded the fan translations a few years ago, but never got around to messing around with it. I just need to get a flashed Action Replay and then I'm good to go, I guess?
It looks odd for I am typing on a Cell. That Car game looks splendid! I sås about to round off my saturn selection after Dracula X and Shinobi X and maybe Mighty Hits. So it seems I must rethink this statements now about the game collecting at home. I have never tried "Bomberman" but i know and am used to Dyna Blaster which is a DOS game we had in my School 1-3 Grade. It has the same basic concept. If you want to play imports a PAR 4-in-1+ is pretty much essential, isn't it? At least it was back when I was importing games. Anyway, a proper PAR 4-in-1+ has the 4MB RAM expansion and supports games that require either 1 or 4MB RAM carts.

I started collecting for the Sega Saturn last year, and getting imports was the main reason why I got one. The local retro game store gave me Vampire Savior for free when I bought an American Saturn there. I eventually got a Action Replay cart for the very reason why I go after imports on Saturn.
Too bad I'll never get my hands on owning a personal copy of Radiant Silvergun. But anyway, looking out for part 2.
Sega Lord X I learned about Cotton Boomerang from one of your previous videos. That game should be on this list it is awesome!

Want to know why the music on necronomicon is so good? God himself, aka John Petrucci (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment) did some tracks for this game. I remember being a teenager and the internet in its infancy, listening to :10 clips at a time, just to hear what Petrucci was doing. It was even more special because the Saturn is my favorite console. Love the channel, keep up the good work. Sega 4 Ever. 🤘🏾

So many reasons to buy them too - they are cheaper, the cases are easier to replace, there's plenty of exclusives and most of the games (other than rpg's) are english friendly.
Funny you should mention "Shining Force 3" reproductions as mine is arriving today from Etsy - also based on your recommendation ;-)

Thank You for spotlighting the fan translation and repro versions of Policenauts & Shining Force III!!! They are games everyone should be able to enjoy more freely. Saturn Japan is a treasure trove of games. Some good games are Bulk Slash, Wachenroder, Wizardry LLylgamyn Saga(can turn language to English), Stellar Assault SS,
Shadows of the Tusk (turn language to English), Steam Hearts(pc engine version is hentai), Terra Diver (published by EA, bastards never released it in the US), Battle Garegga, Shienryu(came out on PS1 but it is garbage version, saturn was japan only and better) and Hyper Duel

I got my copy of Layer Section complete for about $45 a couple years ago. Galactic Attack, on the other hand, was well over $100 around the same time.
Also, Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge remains my favorite Saturn fighting game. Would love to pick up the Japanese entry to the series that you show here.

Policenauts is one of my all time favorite games! There is a fanmade english patch for the PSX and Saturn version!
I also love Snatcher on Sega CD. Like Policenauts, it is also made by Hideo Kojima! =D

Japan exclusive game:
Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: The Blue Destiny -- this is a robotic battle game in full 3D battlefield. More than 1 mobile suit are in the fight at the same time. This is what you cannot find in PS1.
Syutokou Battle '97 -- One of the best racing game in Saturn. Very stable frame rate and acceptable drawing distance.
Wow, I didn't even know about Saturn Bomberman Fight! Definitely going on my must own list.
This is a great list, overall, I want to add one of my own: Megaman 8. The Saturn version of the title is easily the best version, but a North American copy will run you the upwards of $120, however, I've seen important copies go for as little as $35
Whenever you say games are cheap, the info is outdated in a matter of a few years. Now X-men vs street fighter is usually $80-$120

Christmas Nights is a awesome holiday play.
Two of my favorite imports that I never see mentioned are Keio Yugekitai, a beautiful platformer sequel to Keio Flying Squadron on the Sega CD, and Elevator Action Returns, a brilliant sequel to the classic coin-op. Not sure what they go for these days but both are well worth playing.
I second Keio, probably one of my favorite platformers ever-epic and varied gameplay from start to finish. Elevator Action is expensive nowadays, but it also lives on the PS2 Taito comps.

@@SevenCompleted Many of us bought these games long before prices got to where they are now. I picked up both Keio Yugekitai and Elevator Action Returns for less than $40 each. It's silly to omit games just because they're pricey now. I bought AES Metal Slug X brand new for $285. It's now worth thousands. Does that mean it should never be spoken of? Besides, there are mod chips and Action Replay carts for non-collectors that would just like the opportunity to play these games.

Layer Section was released in PAL and US regions as Galactic Attack and Raystorm.
Bomberman Fight is stunning, for me more fun than any Bomberman around. Saturn has 20-30 japanese exclusives that we can't loose. Think Yooga Laylee team mocked this console making a bad figure today.. P.s. X-Men Vs Steet Fighter and King The spirits II are magic also for their particular camera angles and for another reason: they are two of the greatest videogames ever.

If Shining Force 3 ever got a fully translated and complete release with all three parts in the west on the likes of Xbox One, PS4 and more I would very likely buy the game ASAP. It's a game that's long over due and really should be available to a wider audience.
I ordered the Japanese Outrun for myself just a few days ago.
Bought it from a Japanese seller through Amazon. I think I paid about 40 bucks in dollars so not bad considering your 50 dollar benchmark.
Shining Force 3 Scenario 1 - 3 are one of the best game in Saturn.
Sega of America is foolish to not bring these games to US market.
Or UK market.
I can vouch for Layer Section and Vampire Savior being great values for your buck.

Another benefit to importing is Japanese gamers take better care of their stuff. All the used games I've gotten are generally in superior condition from the packaging to the discs. Some games will even still include the spine cards for completion sake.

I'm going to have to bite and get a copy of Shining Force III (complete) on etsy. I have owned the North American retail release for years and downloaded the fan translations a few years ago, but never got around to messing around with it. I just need to get a flashed Action Replay and then I'm good to go, I guess?

It looks odd for I am typing on a Cell. That Car game looks splendid! I sås about to round off my saturn selection after Dracula X and Shinobi X and maybe Mighty Hits. So it seems I must rethink this statements now about the game collecting at home. I have never tried "Bomberman" but i know and am used to Dyna Blaster which is a DOS game we had in my School 1-3 Grade. It has the same basic concept. If you want to play imports a PAR 4-in-1+ is pretty much essential, isn't it? At least it was back when I was importing games. Anyway, a proper PAR 4-in-1+ has the 4MB RAM expansion and supports games that require either 1 or 4MB RAM carts.
Cool. I have a japanese one too- still finding a way to make the light gun work with a PC monitor (I think it has to be at a resolution that's 60hz).
