  • This video is different from the usual stuff on the channel, but when I had the opportunity to interview Michael Bouchard about his research - I couldn't turn it down. His work on the Dennis Martin case has really contributed to a better understanding of the facts and also dispelled many of the myths. Before watching it you should have a good understanding of the case, so if you haven't seen my prior two videos on the subject then here are the links.

My father worked on the search for Dennis. He was part of a small group of firemen from Knoxville that volunteered. It always haunted him that it was never solved before he passed. My mom was originally from Gatlinburg so on our many visits to the mountains we had to wear a whistle around our necks. In the case we might get lost we were to stop, sit by a tree and blow the whistle. The only reason we were ever given was they didn't want us to get lost and never found like the little boy in the mountains.

Paulides presented a case in 2020 about a duck hunter who went missing and they found his boat in the water, his truck parked nearby and his hat in the water. I saw an A&E documentary on the same case. By 2017 they had found the body and successfully prosecuted the hunters best friend and wife for his murder. Body had been found buried by the friend. By 2017 the wife was appealing her sentence. This doc came out in 2022. I searched Paulides' back catalog and it's been deleted. Incredible.

You are exactly right and that 'entertainment' earns them all a pretty good living at the expense of the victims and their families. There is question of tact and diplomacy any more than there is even a stab at accuracy . It's the families I really feel for having to cope with these parasites on top of the loss of loved ones without hope of closure every day for the rest of their lives . If Paulides and others of that ilk donated half their UA-cam earnings to s&r I might have a little bit of respect for them but making money out of other folks' misery is about as low as you can stoop . His books are sold on Amazon for absurd sums while he sells them on his website for 25.00. He warns people about Amazon. He visited the Smokey Mountain National Park many times to do research, and met with the boy's father once. I'm also left wondering why I'm supposed to trust this investigator and interviewer. Me and a buddy took a trip into the smokies last fall to investigate that area of Big Hollow. We stayed at the backcountry spot where the bridge is now and worked our way towards big hollow. It didn’t take long (off trail) to be completely engulfed in Rhoda (mountain laurel). There were sections close to the creek up that way that opened up, but they were few and far between. That area is quite dense. It made me wonder if Dennis had in fact made it to that creek (which is also where the child’s Oxford shoe print was reported) only to find the creek impassible from the rains. I’m not sure if there was a bridge there in 69’, but if there wasn’t, it would have definitely made that a hard task for a such a young lad. Maybe he walked up stream to try and find an area to cross and got more lost than he already was. It’s such a sad case and all we are left with is speculation all these years later. Anyways, I appreciate your videos on the case and thoroughly enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for posting this interview. As an attorney, I have a few observations:
It does not take much to dismiss the very ridiculous claims that have been circulating about this case for quite some time (i.e. green berets being flown in to eradicate feral people-too stupid an idea to waste any time on), and it also does not take much to see that sensationalism and “the bizarre” are the selling points to 411, and, therefore, it does not have much credibility to begin with. The issue I do have, however, with Mr. Bouchard is that he seems to have the same “I’ve seen it all” approach that is the downfall of many investigators. This reminds me of the decades and decades of books and documentaries with interviews of law enforcement officers who insisted that there was “no way” the Anglin brothers and Frank Morris could have survived their escape from Alcatraz in 62, until the photo that surfaced several years ago that clearly shows the Anglins alive in the 1970s--all of the decades of certainty were based on the “seen it all” approach and had no evidence to confirm it…and they were all wrong.
An example of this approach from the interview posted here is Mr. Bouchard’s dismissal of the idea that Dennis’ father ever spoke to Harold Keys because Mrs. Martin told Mr. Bouchard that she “would have known” if her husband had talked to anyone. Really? Every wife/widow/husband/widower would say something similar, but we have no idea what Mr. Martin shared with his wife and what he didn’t-in addition, an interview with Mrs. Martin doesn’t give us an understanding of how their marriage worked (for all we know, he couldn’t stand his wife and didn’t tell her much). Maybe Mr. Martin talked to Mr. Keys and maybe he didn’t, but simply because his widow says she “would have known” is not conclusive either way. (And, yes, I know he also pointed to what was absent from Mr. Martin’s letters as evidence of this, but that is not conclusive either).
Another example is Mr. Bouchard’s comments that newspapers just “make stuff up all the time” and that this is how certain comments from Mr. Keys ended up in some articles and not others. Of course articles can be fabricated, but were the reporters/journalists who authored these articles questioned? These newspapers weren’t 19th century tabloids making up stories for readers about monsters at sea. Mr. Keys likely said all kinds of crap to all kinds of people over the years (including to Mr. Bouchard himself) because, like most eyewitnesses, he is unreliable-but that does not mean that interviews with him included fabricated details.
Mr. Bouchard’s research efforts are extremely valuable, and probably the best yet on the Dennis Martin case (hopefully he followed up with Mr. Keys on what he meant by “I’m an old man, what can they do to me now” comment), but he ultimately does not know what happened to Dennis Martin.
I have no idea what actually happened to Dennis, but neither does Mr. Bouchard, and at this stage, neither does anyone else.

I think Mr Bouchard has a bit of a 'personality' solely because of the amount of garbage he has seen throughout his career. This is the first I have heard of him, and my first impression is he is a no nonsense type of investigator.

    • @SwedePotato314

You managed to put all my thoughts about this into a very well worded summary. Complacency in any job is only a detriment to the subject and anyone around them, especially in law enforcement. I’ve seen men who have been working with heavy machinery all day, every day for decades begin to slip with their safety protocols solely because they’ve done it so many times and they “know what they’re doing”, only for them to then be gravely injured or even killed. Acting like you’ve seen it all on the job begets a mindset of working completely on judgment and assumptions based on prior experience. Each case needs to be judges on their own merit, not against your previous experiences. Obviously I’m not saying a lack of experience is better, I’m saying a mindset of looking at each case individually is a much safer, proficient and more professional way to approach it. The minute you think you’ve seen it all is the minute you willingly close your eyes to the facts around you.

They simply leave it up for the listeners to decide that. Anything else is gatekeeping. That's just not cool going at them. Thank you for what your doing here. I noticed a lot of the stories someone wrote have a lot of bad or outdated information in them. I have checked a few myself and followed along with some and when you start digging there is a lot of things missing or just wrong. Sometimes it makes a regular tragic story seem to be more then what it is just a tragedy. Thanks again this was a great video and very professionally done. Just wanted you to know how much the truth is appreciated

After watching all 3 videos of your coverage with this case, you’ve done an impeccable job with your research and helping convey your understanding to us as the audience. It’s sad that we will most likely never truly know what happened to Dennis.
With that said, in this interview especially, you both (probably more so Michael) seem to dog David Paulides at every opportunity. While he may exacerbate situations at times, it is largely because of his work that many missing persons cases are talked about and further investigated; I think it’s important not to lose sight of that regardless of how you feel about his conclusions.
Love all your content regardless and that you maintain an objective view to your investigations. Your dedication to bringing the viewer clarity on missing persons files is a breath of fresh air and so so captivating to watch.

IMO, Paulides orchestrated his 'work' to create the 411 to draw in the viewers. Who doesn't like to speculate, or even try to solve, a case? DP knew that. He knew it would generate the attention. 'Attention' sells books and gets people to watch your videos/films. I do agree though, Missing Enigma is top notch in the genre.

I’m sure David truly believes there are abnormal anomalies or paranormal elements to these cases, I find it hard to believe he is just flat out lying intentionally to bring fame to his work.

Nice work! I have watched just about everything on this case and appreciate being able to see it from a new angle. I keep hoping Sasquatch is real, but he's right about "a boring story doesn't sell."

I can assure you sasquatch are very real. Also highly, highly intelligent. The guy in this video is a bit delusional to say they dont exist because they do. Eighter he is covering something up for the Dennis Martin case or hes delusional. Could be the Government forcing him to cover things up. Eighter way sasquatch are real beings. I personally have had a encounter with one. October 26th 2020. My grandmother was full blooded indian & she used to tell me about when she was a kid & the things she over heard the Indian chiefs & women talking about & one was being sasquatch. They called them the forest people. & when the forest people were hunting the Indians could not.

      @@whodidwhat32 I've never seen a Bigfoot, but I've seen Dogman, in 2011.
But thought I was going to keep that to myself because I'd never heard of anything like it before.
Then I accidentally discovered Vic Cundiffs Dogman Encounters in 2015 and my blood ran cold, when the description was exactly what I'd seen.
So if I've seen that, it would be extremely arrogant of me to claim that bigfoot doesn't exist.
Does it mean I believe everything I hear?
Certainly not, however I'm not an egocentric ex authority figure that thinks I know everything either.

    • @whodidwhat32
      @whodidwhat32 Рік тому

@@rogerramjet6429 I believe you & for multiple reasons alone. I wasn't a non believer in bigfoot but I also hadn't seen one until my encounter. Even despite my grandmother telling me these stories I still wasnt fully on board & it's not that I didn't believe her eighter because I most certainly did. I just for some reason thought like many people that if you dont see it it must not be real. They are very real. & dogman I would say are as well. There might not be many of these things out here that could be just one of many reasons why most people dont see them. There is a case I heard about a guy & his wife had a encounter on a back road he told his encounter on a tv documentary. It may have been the same case I couldn't remember his name. I 100% believe you I don't doubt anyone until they give me a solid reason to. Basically why I tell my encounter is because I want everyone to be safe & be aware when out near thick woods at night. My encounter was very terrifying. That's why I also tell my encounter. We don't kno what some of these things are capable of. I've been recently listening to & watching dogman encounters.
