Hey everyone, I just want to get ahead of the inevitable questions I'll get regarding this video. I'm not changing anything about the general format this channel has traditionally done. I just decided that this was the most effective/efficient way to go through the content of the FBI's Martin files. @@MarshaDawn20 I was about to make the same comment. It makes me sick to think of all those "psychics" bothering him and then he turns around and annoys the feds, the last thing anyone needs.
The FBI and some people probably found/find it ridiculous that his dad was suspicious because of small details, but imagine your child is missing, under crazy circumstances, and you feel people aren’t taking it as seriously as they should. You would go insane. I would probably end up in jail if my daughter went missing because I’d be kicking in doors if I felt the police were slacking. There’s no way I could sit around and wait for paperwork and have to deal with “oh we can’t investigate this guy because of this technicality” or some shit.

That's probably why the feds didn't want the report out , as it makes them look lazy, callous and incompetent.
I have no doubt that in a similar situation I would be worse than Mr. Martin.

You are right, and your reaction is totally understandable. But you must remember one thing, imagine you are suspected of doing something, but you are innocent. Would you not be glad when people go the proper law channels to try to prove your involved instead of kicking down your door and kicking your butt? Is the law not there to avoid such things? But man i get your point, if it’s my child i would be considering the same. But that does not mean it’s the best way.
I’m a retired FBI Special Agent. I retired in 2018. I, like many, have a great deal of criticism of the FBI’s management in light of recent events. That said, the Special Agent force of the FBI are highly competent and thorough. I think the released report confirms that. In addition, laws passed in the 1990s forward have facilitated not only the FBI but all law enforcement to have better communication with victims and families. This victim’s rights legislation was not in place prior to the early and mid 90s. The need for victim’s rights was clearly demonstrated in this case.

Poor father was clinging so desperately to his son being alive he was willing to believe anything that gave him hope. Great video.
They started looking for Dennis so quickly, that I just don't understand how he could have gotten so far away that they couldn't find him, on his own.
If he did get lost given what some people account of the area he could have gotten disoriented and went in the wrong direction given how the environment reverberates sounds. It also could have been a bit long say 5 mins or more given the situation at hand. It is easy to see how he could have gotten lost by that point

This is the only Missing Persons channel I watch because you stick to the facts, are unbiased, and you do mention theories but you make it clear that they are theories. Very clear delivery, also. No nonsense music!

I couldn’t imagine how terrifying it would be lost in the forest at night. The sounds the darkness the coldness the confusion every little noise around you with no shelter to hide you from what’s out there.. such a terrifying thing to imagine. I feel horrible for anyone who has been lost in the woods before. Everyone stay safe out there!
I recall a junior park ranger wanting to investigate a particular smell, he thought it emanated from a dead body but was told by his boss it was probably from a dead bird and to stick to the plan. It really bothered him because he knew it wasn't a dead bird, now we'll never know either way. The go to channel for these cases,I appreciate your work.

A very sad story regardless of how Dennis Martin vanished. I feel for the family not knowing where their little boy ended up and how he got there.
I’m a 51 year old woman, born and lived my whole life in the outer Chattanooga, TN area and in years past, have been throughout much of the GSM park. There certainly *are areas* within the park where you instinctually understand not let down your guard.. it’s somewhat difficult to explain, but it’s much like a creeping feeling of being watched, or more correctly, it’s a feeling of dread.. places where we never spent much time, let alone camping/sleeping.
And this was noticed and discussed decades before Dennis Martin case was known to any of us.
Chattanoogan as well and there’s even areas not far from the city where I don’t let my guard down. I suppose it’s a leftover instinct from when we were still prey to certain creatures

It's terribly sad when a child goes missing,an utter nightmare for the parents. He was playing hide and seek,a young mind has a limited grasp of navigation. Just one wrong turn, panic, another wrong turn , and soon hopelessly lost. The hell is in the not knowing,I feel incredibly bad for his poor father and other parents suffering the same fate. Outstanding video once again.
If this was my kid missing I would bug the hell out of any organization I thought would be able to help, too. And if the FBI showed up but wouldn't investigate I'd be incensed. The incorrect details would fuel my suspicion and fear, too. The unbearable stress of this situation, the utter lack of answers, would make it impossible for me to ever let it go.

I think Dennis’ dad did. He tried everything to find his boy. But, if they won’t tell you anything, and keep pushing you away, what do you do? I know Dennis’s dad never stopped looking.
It's really sad that this child was likely taken for horrible reasons. The park ranger smelling something dead and being told not to investigate. The ominous phone calls to Mr Key to stop inquiring about the case. The "coincidence" of the family that befriended the Martins having the same name. I don't believe in coincidences anymore. And their child telling Dennis to go off by himself because they wanted to hide. Secret society members written all over this.

Never knowing what happened to your child while the FBI (who work for the people) won't disclose anything to the family is a pain nobody deserves.

Sometimes it’s a lot more obvious in hindsight and having all the information together as opposed to pieces of it, if the FBI knew something there’s a reason they didn’t tell the family. Whether that’s bc they couldn’t prove it, who knows but I can’t imagine them saying they know but don’t have any hard evidence bc that would make the parent feel terrible and I can’t imagine them telling the parent that as well as the name of the suspect they’re unable to prove did it bc that might be extremely problematic. It’s just a bad situation and it sucks bc they obviously couldn’t investigate if there wasn’t evidence of a crime even tho the kid went missing and that to you and me should be enough to investigate. I think they did the right thing chasing the lead from the convict, I think they should’ve asked the possible suspect if he would take a polygraph, maybe they did or didn’t, but either way they were obviously stuck and could only do so much. That’s what needs to change, and I’m sure many agents would welcome that.
Did you even watch the video? The fbi had nothing to say and had to deal with a distraught father who wanted them involved but they had no jurisdiction. It is also likely anything they would say to him would have been leaked to the press potentially contaminating an investigation. The father couldnt accept the most obvious explanation and wanted it to be something it wasnt, the fbi behaved perfectly correctly in this case.

I have been involved with search and rescue/recovery of several missing children cases in the mountains of Utah. I can tell you the anguish of family, especially the parent's of the child, is indescribable. One child I helped search for was never found.
Not having closure is painful and arduous for family members as well as searchers. I often think of the boy that is now lost forever.
I can only hope families of missing loved ones may find some measure of peace; but, I can only hope.

Since that ranch in particular is in Vernal I'd be interested to know if the land used to be Ute Tribal land or not. In my opinion it's certainly not Aztec. I would guess if it is, or used to be on Native land there might be a connection with the things that go on there that seem otherworldly or worldly (gold seeking).

So sad to read of Mr. Martin's continuing belief that Dennis was still alive somewhere. I guess we can't understand this type of behavior until we ourselves are put in the same situation. I have a son and can't imagine how I'd deal with him going missing. RIP Mr. Martin. Thanks for this well-thought-out video which contained a lot of info I'd never heard before.

Just want to thank you for a seriously great channel exploring these stories, Dennis Martin's disappearance has long been unexplained and now become 'folklore ' or 'urban legend '. It's important for all that too have gone missing that they stay in our thoughts
I've followed this case in earnest since I first learned of its existence from an early David Paulides video. I have also viewed many similar cases of strange disappearances. It is about time the FBI files were released, as their secrecy has only fueled some of the more bizarre theories. I know of several cases of children with autism who have gone missing in a similar way and the one thing that stands out above all, is that Dennis Martin likely had autism. Furthermore, children with autism will invariably hide when lost and NOT respond to searchers. They will intentionally avoid being located as a single-minded pursuit and this makes detection almost impossible, even under the best of circumstances. I'm now satisfied that Dennis got lost, hid from search parties and died as a result of exposure. This area is vast and full of sinkholes, chasms and areas that are not accessible without evidence of the subject being in any of those places. Great work on this video.

Very familiar with the story. Your channel is excellent and your voice is perfect for it. Thank you edit. Cannot blame the father exhausting all efforts to find his son. The suffering and pain has got to be extremely tough.
Great reporting. This case always made me feel so sad. I have a daughter who is Autistic, I could totally see her running into the woods and getting lost. As such, we always keep a very close eye on her. I also feel for the father; I understand why the FBI found him to be annoying, but if my child was missing I would literally believe anyone who said they knew where they were. What a terrible, sad story.
I've heard that autistic children will avoid detection once they have run off into a wilderness area. It sounds like this may have happened to you as well. When Dennis went to "hide" during hide & seek, he took the task way too seriously it seems. Such a sad story.
@@eucliduschaumeau8813 Reading missing person cases... Dennis wasn't the only one. One other case had the missing girl seemingly climb out the hotel window at night and run off into the forest... and die days later and miles from the hotel. Seemingly she did it just to see the forest.
Maybe see a personal locator beacon into her jacket or waistband. I couldn’t imagine the pain of losing my own child
Just remember autistic children are drawn to water. An autistic child was found drowned in the pond behind the house where they were visiting relatives in our town.

Impressive how clear and level headed you are, and for this reason I can watch your videos. For five decades I have hiked, explored, as well as investigated a variety of mysteries, and in your sensible commentary you do not reach into ridiculous assumptions, or over state the paranormal possibilities. As so many seasoned hikers comment, people act very strange when alone and lost in the woods. They are big, and dark, and as I attest very scary. My hat goes off to you.
Well done sir. Your breakdown of how law enforcement works and how investigations are conducted is a breath of fresh air. I have over 30 years of combined military and law enforcement experience and have tried to explain how the use of troops was employed in this case and the jurisdictional issues involved. But people either don't want or are unable to hear anything outside of a paranormal cause for this tragedy.
I really appreciate your dedication to digging up evidence. This really makes you stand out in the true crime reporting field.
So nice to see someone who covers these cases and doesn't ignore the 'conspiracy theories', while also looking at actual evidence and going through, almost point-by-point, to show how the actual evidence doesn't line up with what the 'story' has morphed into. Also, nice to see someone pointing out that there are very legitimate reasons for the FBI to be involved (FEDERAL LAND) and that the NPS is not an investigative service. Also, not at all unusual for the Army to get involved and aid in a search, especially if they're already involved in training in the area.

Strangely, I was on a family vacation in Smokey Mountains NP in June of ‘69. I was 14 but didn’t know anything about this case until decades later. I subbed!
Everything you said was well executed, expresses, based off of facts, and still remaining very empathic of the family and victim in the case. Beautiful job. Being kind to the victims memory is so important and a lot of UA-camrs fail to do this.

Why I appreciate your channel and all the research you do digging into these missing persons cases. When I first came across missing 411 I was convinced there was a logical and simple reason behind a majority of these “unexplainable” “phenomena” disappearances. It’s difficult to maintain that skepticism when everything out there hints at the involvement of the supernatural or otherworldly. I appreciate that you don’t buy into crazy theories or perpetuate them for views. I feel the same way you do about the wild speculation that these cases generate.
I grew up near the Pine Barrens and spent a lot of time in them when I was growing up. There are people who live deep in the Pines known locally as “Pineys”. They’re not “feral people” nor are they cannibals. They’re just people who prefer to live off the grid in nature. They don’t bother anyone and no one bothers them. There are people living off the grid in wilderness areas all over the country. It doesn’t mean they’re evil bloodthirsty cannibals snatching innocent children.
I’m curious about your take on the Missing 411 cases that contained details which were embellished or completely fabricated by DP. Several missing 411 cases have been officially debunked when people found evidence ignored or overlooked bf DP (although some question the latter because he gets very hostile with anyone who brings up these major discrepancies and refuses to acknowledge them). Someone (or a few people) compiled a list of the questionable or debunked Missing 411 cases complete with links to evidence from newspaper articles, law enforcement, search and rescue, local residents, park rangers, and family members of the “missing”. In at least one case the missing person had been found alive yet DP intentionally left put the outcome of the case.
I used to have the page with the full list and supporting evidence bookmarked but unfortunately lost it when my phone broke. I’m going to search for it because the findings were very compelling. It proved, at the very least, that DP fabricates details or doesn’t include important info in order to make events appear more mysterious and strange than they actually were. I had always assumed that DP was telling the truth in regards to the cases he chooses to cover. I was wrong.
I figured that you would want to see this stuff for yourself. Your channel is one of the few that questions inconsistencies and baseless claims. So many people just give in to clickbait tactics and misinformation because it sounds more interesting than “Someone went missing on a hike and was later found alive not far from their last known location.” I really enjoy your channel- it’s one of the few that covers these topics with integrity and rational discussion.
I was intrigued by DP and missing 411 cases covered by him.
Over time, I got tired of his tender ego and his whining about people's comments that were "mean."
He also uses the phrase, " I don't care what you think."
It's condescending and arrogant.
For all of his promotion of the film about the UFO connection, it was crap.

I want to thank you for your hard work on this subject. I also wanted to tell you as a former naval special forces operator a 6 mile walk is easily accomplished in 90 minutes. I've had to do it many times. If I was in a hurry I can do it and a little over 60 minutes. This might not mean much but I do believe that the FBI was incorrect in thinking the distance couldn't be traveled in that time.
A 6 mile walk is easily accomplished in 90 minutes....... ASSUMING that the 6 mile walk is not interfered by severe and potentially debilitating weather. And ASSUMING that a significant gain in elevation is required, while traversing through heavy underbrush, etc. And ASSUMING that a straight line, or near straight line walk is possible due to no geographical impediments such as cliffs or severe degrees on hillsides or drop offs. And ASSUMING that the person walking is in decent shape and able to maintain a near straight sense of direction. Please consider such assertions in the future.
Thank you for the update! I have a vague memory of seeing this on the Knoxville news when I was a kid. I spent a fair amount of time in Cade's Cove on field trips, family visits and bicycling around the whole place. It can be eerie even in daylight.
You cover some of the most unheard of missing persons cases, so this is appreciated.

Dennis Martin’s story is haunting after all these years. It’s worth researching into, and you’ve done such an excellent job with the first video and now the follow up. Unfortunately, still no new evidence of what occurred though and we might never know. This one is a true tragedy and enigma.

Yes -- most likely he wandered off got lost and all physical evidence was destroyed by the heavy rains.

@@drew2fast489 Washes away DNA evidence, washes away footprints, and also as he said in the video, it could have washed the body into a crevasse and buried the body in debris. The storm had heavy rains.

@@anon2427 Remember, bones/remains were found much much later by someone but they could not be relocated and thus no identity -- the park is huge and it is hard to find someone living yet alone deceased.

I grew up around the Smokies and I %100 believe there are "feral" people living there because my cousin is one of them. He fled a 10 year prison sentence and only me and his parents know where he is. He's not actually feral but the last time I spoke to him (2 years ago) he had some wild stories of meeting people like that. Probably be more accurate to call them weirdos.
The more that I delve into these cases, the more I realize just how much a certain someone with a certain book series leaves out of his retelling of these stories. It seems he's become popular with the "unexplained" crowd (which I'm happily a part of) and it's gone to his head. It's disappointing.

I sometimes worry about that too. He seems to be the first one to notice and bring this whole thing to a wider audience. I enjoy his research, books, and movies but not so much his YT channel where he reads letters & emails a sometimes highlights a new case. It's just a bit too slow paced for my taste. I always thought he had a good deal of integrity and it would be such a shame if he really is cherry picking evidence or letting success get to his head.

Is he also creating the artwork himself? I was wondering because if so he is very talented. I also think he has a great voice for commentaries. I've noticed the really well known UA-camrs(male and female) have a very nice tone to their voices and seem very articulate.

I think the most important evidence that could have revealed a suspect would have been video surveillance footage of NSP parking lots and road traffick especially because after so many people arrived to search for Dennis it probably became impossible to discern exactly who was in the parks after that point. However, I'm guessing this case took place long before video lot and road surveillance
Yes, it was much more innocent then. No phone cameras, no digital anything --all analog.
1969. Doubtful CCTV was installed.

There's a house not to far from me with a posted sign of their missing son listing the days they've been missing... It's well over 10 years! It's got to be heartbreaking to go on just wondering what happened...
