Every single time I hear the Weight of the world, everything just comes flooding back. "Do you think games are silly little things?", "Is it all pointless?". it's been about 7 years.
Weight of the World is probably one of the best video game songs ever composed, in my opinion. Everyone's gonna say this, but yeah, those were real tears the singer was crying at the end, it's incredibly emotional.
That’s the one thing the JP version has over the EN version. The singer breaks down. But in turn making the JP version way more emotional and heartfelt.
“A Beautiful Song” is my favorite song from the entire soundtrack. Yes, it is two different singers in that one. The first is Emi Evans who is the lead vocalist for most of the songs in the game. The second singer is J'Nique Nicole she is also the vocalist of “Memories of Sand” (a track you haven’t heard yet) and she sings the English version of “Weight of the World”
That is so fucking cool. Thank you for this comment otherwise I would have never noticed it. Just makes me respect the whole game and the idea even more
For weight of the world the best version is the final version it starts with 8bit then it switches between English and Japanese and it ends with a beautiful chorus
For the story about Weight of the world, the singtress cry for real She let herself be overwhelmed by the emotions of the music. Basically Keiichi Okabe wanted her to start her take again but Yoko Taro firmly asked that this one be kept and it is very clearly the best choice that was made
Highly recommend checking out Neir Replicant’s OST as well, it’s the prior game in the series and has some incredible themes, many of which later appeared in Automata.
@@Noah27612something extra cool is that in the replicant ver 1.22 emil karma song there's a section that's referencing the brass motif from emil despair in automata
Totally yes. Replicant is just incredible as a game, for its lore (DrakeNieR got me so involved in theories, I love it a lot) and for all the art put in it (including music ofc) Makes me want to finally try to get the last trophies I need to get the Platinum 🤣
there are indeed three different singers Emi Evans she sang "Vague Hopes", and developped the chaos language with composer Keiichi Okabe J'Nique Nicole who sings mostly in english and chaos and sang with Emi Evans on "A Beautiful Song" and last Nami Nakagawa who sings in japanese the "Weight of the World" one For Emil (despair) it's a kid's chorus I think I also reccomend you hear "Weight of the World/the End of YoRHa" all three singers sing together in japanese, english and Chaos
(sorry not the main subject but as a French speaker, I always think the name "J'nique Nicole" is a joke as it means "I fu** Nicole". Why such a name? 🤣)
Nier Automata is a beautiful game that breaks you. The song themself are powerful but combine with your actions and contex. Its something to experience.
Not trying to be weird, but you def have to play the games to get the “true” feeling of these songs. They represent different dynamics and philosophies of the game. In the same vein of what Yoko Taro said “it’s best expressed in game”, although he was talking about the story - I feel there’s merit behind that sentiment for the entirety of the game; music included.
@@InterstellarClouddThe game actually ruined it for me. Too much inconsistency and nonsense robbed me of a really good tragic story. I couldn't cry a single tear and I'm quite mad at the Yoko Taro for it.
@@rustygear447curious as to what exactly you mean. There is some odd choices sure, but ultimately it fits the world it is set in as it is in many ways fabricated from the ground up
@Herr_Gamer I realize that most of the fans don't even know that 9S found out about human extinction before the fight with Eve and ending A. Knowing the story, 2B should have been given the order to hunt 9S. That's such a great plot line I would love to see, but noooooo they give us a stupid virus and mercy killing scene in ending A which makes absolutely no sense. How is strangling him a nice way to kill him? and why would strangling kills him as android? he doesn't need to breathe! I am so mad that we got that BS instead of getting to explore the conflict and emotion of 2B as she's hunting 9S, and how 9S respond. Does 9S fight back to preserve his life, or will he try to convince 2B to betray Yorha? We could have gotten 2B and 9S teaming to attack Yorha, which lead to a real fight with the commander and all the handlers we've bonded with. Instead we got the virus as a cop out. We killed Yorha, but they are all infected so it's not the same as actually killing them because we are on different side. I think I've rambled on too long but that's what I got on the top of my mind. I remembered feeling frustrated by a lot of things as I play the game, but I forgot most of them now.
Most of the lyrics of these songs do not come from a real language The singer Emi Evans, who has been part of this series for a while and has provided vocals for many songs in this video, was tasked by the composer to help create lyrics in a made up language, the “Chaos Language“ The idea is that it is supposed to sound like an actual language taking influences from many real existing languages but ultimately the lyrics don’t mean anything
I believe the explanation she's given in the past is that she was thinking about how real languages might sound after a couple thousand years have passed, which is why some songs sound closer to certain languages than others. like kaine salvation's lyrics sound very gaelic, for example.
I absolutely need a part two including NieR Replicant OST, you truly need to listen Kaine Salvation, Emil Sacrifice, Shadowlord, Song of the Ancients and Gods Bound by Rules, I swear you will not regret at all
What blows my mind about how the NieR music was made is that we have a Japanese composer, with his Japanese team, coaching a British singer on how to emote on their made-up language. It's mindblowing
@@ramasama not sure if we are thinking of the same live performance but I'm thinking of the nier Orchestra and talk like concert. It was the first nier concert and only featured 2 automata songs. Possessed by a disease and weight of the world. I remember possessed by a disease sounding horrible live compared to recorded. I don't think Nami is a good live singer. Her voice lost so much of the gravity it had in the recorded version. Having actually been to the latest NieR concert, emi evans on the other hand sounds even better live than in recording. Nami wasn't there unfortunately so I couldn't compare her to her recording.
Song of Ancients (Atonement) is a personal favorite of mine in this OST, despite that song having some other versions. Also Amusement Park and City Ruins are very worth a listen as well.
She wasn't making those voice cracks on command, she was breaking down crying while still forcing herself to sing to the end. The producer decided to keep and use that take, for obvious reasons.
Something that's important to note about Weight of the World / Kowareta Sekai no Uta is that they aren't just different language versions, they are actually *different songs* sung to more or less the same track. The lyrics of each reflect the perspective and emotions of the ending they play at. I can't speak on the french version as I dont speak the language (well, lol) but i imagine its a similar story for that version as well. That being said, the jpn version is one of my favourite songs ever. Theres just so much packed into both the lyrics and her performance, and it never fails to put a tear in my eye Also, on the note of chaos language: what you've heard is correct, it isn't any particular real language. However for some songs it's not just completely made up, but Emi worked to try and make lyrics that "felt like" an existing language, several thousands of years in the future. To my knowledge, there are songs for German, French, Japanese, and English in this style across both the Nier and Automata osts. Speaking as a language nerd, its one of the coolest things ive ever heard and Emi is so great for pulling it off
Did you ever come across the Ar Tonelico series? It also includes a made up language and writing system for that language that's based on singing. It's called Hymmnos and it's a working language that you could actually learn.
every context in which weight of the world is played is extremely bitter sweet. It takes a lot to get me to cry, especially out of a story or a game....I cry every time weight of the world plays ingame and I tear up when it comes up randomly in my library [as I have the ost, love the nier series]
Possessed by disease boss fight is simply incredible. The song intense phase synced exactly with gameplay when you can damage the boss. That moment really caught me off guard
NieR:Automata is head and shoulders above most other soundtracks out there, certainly one of the best of all time. I was blown away by the way they made recorded it dynamically in multiple tracks, so the game could seamlessly shift between quiet background, forefront, and intense battle versions of every track. I can just listen to the multidisc soundtrack over and over.
Glad to see Possessed by Disease made it in. Hearing it years and years ago in the gameplay reveal trailer was the reason I got the game at launch. It reminded me of the music, or at least the opening track, of the anime movie "Origin: Spirits of the Past".
Nier Automata is arguably the best game i have ever played. The soundtrack is master class, but everything in the game is. Story 10/10. World design 10/10. Characters 10/10. Gameplay 10/10. A must play game. Criminally under rated. Nier Replicant (ver 1.22) sound track is arguably even better than Automata if not equal. You WILL cry if you play Nier Replicant 😂 loved the video
Replicant/gestalts ost can be quite lacking compared to Automata. Both versions suffer from all the repeat songs like yonah and disposession. The whole game is mostly an ost of different renditions of the same songs. Think about how many different versions of song of the ancients, kaine, and emil there are. Hills of radiant winds also sneaks into some other songs as a motif. Ashes of dreams is also just yonahs motif, dance of the evanescant is yonah but as a waltz. Then there's the edition differences that make it difficult to choose which version is better. Gestalt has better vocals than replicant, but replicant has better instrumentals and orchestration overall, but gestalt has way better percussion with its drums, and it's messed up vocal recordings while technically inferior as recordings, sound more unique than replicants crisper recordings. Almost like you're there in a cathedral with the choir playing in the distance. If you cut the fat/bloat of there being too many repeat songs, and combined the best qualities of both versions of the ost, then maybe it could stand on equal footing with Automata. However Automata still has a dynamic soundtrack and replicant does not. That's a big loss for replicant. Automata technically has well over 100 songs if we count all it's variations (which we should since we count replicants different instrumental versions of yonah and dispossesion)
My favorite part with Emil (Despair) is it's the music used for the level 80 raid series for Final Fantasy 14. they did a Nier Automata crossover raid and it's the most insane thing ever but so fun! A good song I would suggest for you would totally be "A Beautiful Song"
Oh god this is BEAUTIFUL, I just cannot right now honestly that music blew me away so much that I looked up the game and almost considered buying it (but maybe I will sometime in the future, oopsie)
Weight of the world makes me tear up every time. Pure emotion spilling out over time but devoted to finishing the piece all the same. It seems really hard to sing while crying and her emotions are utterly palpable
N:A is easily one of the most beautiful and important video games of the century. Truly underrated masterpiece. It's a rare specimen that utilizes the gaming's unique interactive nature to its fullest. I highly recommend playing the game yourself, fully, if you at all love video games and beautiful audio-visual design.
I love Weight of the World, i do highly recommend also listening to the English if you don't speak Japanese. In my opinion the lyrics are as beautiful as the song itself and the experience is only heightened by actually understanding what she is saying.
The lyrics in the English version are actually completely different from the Japanese though. If you haven't looked up a translation for the JP lyrics, I definitely recommend doing so. Even it's title is different, meaning "The song of a broken world" rather than "weight of the world."
The music in Nier and Nier Automata is some of the bedt video game music I've ever heard. Now that you've stepped into this story, you are honor bound to listen to any and all versions of Song of the Ancients
Emil Despair is a boss battle music, hence why it's so intense. This boss is in great pain. You were there to end his suffering. I think the music really captured that.
A Beautiful Song and the fight it accompanies was essentially the reason I bought and played this game. I saw the demo vid of it and I’m like ABSOLUTELY
"Weight of the World" is amazing as a song but, if you play the game and reach that final moment, it is just... PFFFF. I can't describe it. I was crying, laughting and trying to play it while rubbing my eyes and my hands was shaking hahaha. One of the best, BEST, experiences I ever had playing anything
Oh, i just hope you do part 2 of this; Nier its just my favorite story out of everything, whatching people reacting to it gives me chills all over again... 🍃
This is probably my favorite video game, and video game soundtrack. Not only is the music profound, but the game in and of itself is also incredibly profound, and the soundtrack, gameplay, and art are a perfect and seamless blend making for a masterpiece of a game in my opinion. Fair warning, if you play it, it will break you pretty good lol, but it's worth it! If you do play it just make sure you read the side materials (yeah, there's a freaking book that you can buy separate from the game! It includes several short stories that are not in the game as well as fun art stuff and such), it helps you deal with the emotional trauma that comes from this game. Probably the most impactful and beautiful game I've ever played, highly recommend. Also, I highly recommend listening to the tracks "A Beautiful Song", "Peaceful Sleep", "City Ruins (Rays of Light)", "Forest Kingdom", and "Birth of a Wish". I'd name more tracks as they are all sooo good, but these I think are my favorites.
vague hope (cold rain) plays during the emotional climax of the game - in my opinion the most emotional scene in any game i've ever played. the only other game that comes even close is Persona 5.
The vocalist for A Beautiful Song was picked to do the lyrics for the song "A Moment of My Nightmare" from Girls Frontline, specifically for the Campaign event, Mirror Stage. A depressingly beautiful piece of music for probably one of the hardest to sit through chapters of an already bleak narrative. Its only slightly outdone by "Anna" from the Slow Shock Campaign
Tho I'm not sure the lyrics are exactly the same, don't know japanese but i've seen some people say it's slightly different reflecting each ending. But it miight be just the internet being the internet
The weight of the world technically has an english, a japanese, a french version, and a final version that amalgamates all three and includes a dev team singing as a choir for back up. It's a really really good song for this game. After playing, its one of those peices that immediately puts me back in that same emotional place i was the first times I heard each version. Personally I lean toward the english version but that is strictly a preference for the vocalist's performance. It does not carry the same emotion as the japanese vocalist. But the final version also hits me pretty hard especially thematically. If you do a part two I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
To echo many other comments, great reaction! I would love to see a part 2! "Kaine (Salvation)", "The Tower", "Rays of Light", "Amusement Park", they're all AMAZING! There's over 40 (main) songs on the OST and EVERY one of them is gorgeous! Keiichi Okabe, the composer, is absolutely mind blowing!
Ok, I realise I'm a month late, but please god listen to the other versions of Emil at some point too. Despair is great on it's own, but combined with the other versions it becomes something else entirely. Or honestly, pretty much ALL the leitmotifs across the games are like that. And it's even better because half of them carry across from Replicant/Gestalt to Automata, and when the studio who did the first one shut down, I think a lot of us didn't expect to see anymore Nier, so the music returning in a game I thought I'd never get to see really just hit in a way I can't even fully explain.
Fun fact. The "Beautiful but so intense" in the reaction to Emil Despair is also almost word by word how one character describes another in NieR Replicant. And yes, it applies to this franchise so, so often. The beautiful, the calm, the tender, the intense, the epic, the gut wrenching... it's all in NieR and in great part thanks to the soundtracks.
A stunning soundtrack for a stunning game. The song that stood out most for me, is also the song that stands out most in the game because it is very different from the rest of the soundtrack, and the location is different from any of the other locations as well, the song i believe is simply called "Pascal's Village", and it fits so incredibly well, i love all of the sound track, but that little song is special to me.
I am late but I think you should just probably do a Nier series so you can hear Emi Evans and J'nique Nicole (the alto) sing together as well as explore some of the song origins and evolutions for the characters like Emil. This would allow you to explore the osts of Nier Replicant/Gestalt, Drakengard 3 and nier automata as the stories are all connected and themes and leitmotifs are used throughout
One of my favorite games of all time. It's amazing, and beautiful. The soundtrack is quite probably the greatest video game soundtrack I have ever heard. The Japanese singer for Weight of the World broke down and cried during the end of the song while she was singing it, and they kept it in. That song is something else. I don't think this soundtrack will ever be matched.
Nier:Automata (or Nier in general) has one of the most unique OSTs. A atmospheric ambient theme but also emotionally kind of music. I really recommend you "City Ruins (Ray Of Light, all variations)" (or in japanese: "遺サレタ場所/斜光"), "Peaceful Sleep (Vocals)", "Song of the Ancients (Atonement)", "Kaine Salvation"
Neir has one of the best soundtracks of any game, but easily the most beautiful. Weight of the World is easily my favourite song from that game, but there are a couple that come close to it. Their Neir sound track is so sad, the english version of Weight of the World is heartrending.
The soundtrack for the Nier series is very much involved with the game itself, because most of it is a bunch of leitmotifs for the characters (notice how I said Nier series). It is because some of the songs in Automata came pay homage to Gestalt & Replicant (which was remade and remastered, game and soundtrack both, so that means you will be going thru replicant twice). That and there are many variants of the songs within the soundtracks themselves and they are a treat to listen to separately since they convey a different feeling, so you might want to look up the other 3 Weight of the World variants (I highly recommend saving the song End of YorHa ver. last after hearing the rest of weight of the world) It is also wonderful you were able to glean so much without knowing the source material thus I would say you are in for a wonderful and heartbreaking journey. Please go in blind and enjoy the show~
Such joy that you decided to listen to the Japanese version of Weight of the World! The English version of the song has somewhat more hopeful lyrics, while the Japanese version's lyrics are despairing... Massive props to the singer that managed to rein it in just enough to keep singing!
Emi (Emiko) Evans does the Chaos Language and French version, J’Nique Nicole (in English) and Marina Kawano (in Japanese). Also - Nami Nakagowa does a lot of backing vocals with Emi as well as main vocals in songs, her most notable song was Possession by Disease in which Nakagowa does ALL the vocals in it.
The way I barely even know Vague Hope and I'm already tearing up. This game makes you remember how you felt while playing like no other game does, and likely ever will. It is an absolute masterpiece among masterpieces. Edit: what the actual fuck? When Weight of the World's chorus hit, I was just reading comments, trying to distract myself somewhat, knowing what's coming, but still out of nowhere, entirely involuntarily, I completely broke down, feeling everything. And it's not even the full version. Keiichi! I- Glory To Mankind.
Emil (Dispair) is actually a kind of follow-up song from the Emil soundtrack from Nier: Replicant, which IMO has better soundtrack than Automata, even though it's hard to pick a favourite between the two. I can really recommend checking out Replicant soundtrack as well!
One thing Nier does that I wish more games would do is ambient tracks with multiple layers that fade in and out as you traverse a region. More instruments and even the chaos language vocals will just fade in and out smoothly as you explore and progress deeper into an area. The only other game I can think of that does anything like this is Banjo-Kazooie.
So yeah, the music in this game is just about as unique, weird and surprising as the game itself is, I don't know if you play games at all, if you do, go and play this. It doesn't even matter if the genre isn't exactly your wheelhouse, just pick the easiest difficulty and go, the story is one of those "once in a lifetime, one in a million" kind of deals, you haven't seen one quite like it before, and you'll probably never see something quite like it again, unless you go for Nier Replicant or other games that Taro might cook in the future. Don't be fooled by the first end credits though, the game and the story isn't over, you'll come across the end credits a second time, but that's not the end either, there's more game and story still left. You'll know when you've hit the last end credit sequence when you get there. This doesn't mean that you need to beat the game multiple times, sometimes people unfortunately say that you need to play it through multiple times and that's just not true, it just means that when you see the end credits for the first time, those are not really the end credits and you haven't beaten the game yet.
If you like the style of the Possessed by Disease vocals, definitely check out Ar Tonelico (Akiko Shikata's songs in particular, or her other songs). It's kind of surprising that it's not her singing this one (it's Nami Nakagawa). Ar Tonelico in general has tons of points in the uniqueness category, that's for sure.
You need to make a part 2! Lots more amazing song both in Automata and in the original Nier. I definitely recommend listening to the other versions of Weight of the World too, finishing up with The End of Yorha.
"This is breathtaking" she says. Just you wait until you actually listen to the songs within the context of the game. NieR: Automata is one of those very, very rare gems this medium ever created. The gameplay might not be for everyone but oh boy the soundtrack, the story and the philosophical concepts this game tackles is just out of this world.
Game basically doesnt have a bad song in it... and the story is quite intresting too, once you go through the game like 4 times you get the "real ending" 😅
There’s a version of Weight of the World where the English, Japanese and French version singers are all singing it Believe it’s called the YoRHa version
This coupled with the story made me cry like a baby like in the FFX ending. Manly tears, of course. In Weight of the World she started crying in the studio and thought she screwed it up, but they kept it in anyway.
emil's song really reminds me barbie girls by aqua: dua ruma ni - i'm a barbie girl kuri ga me noque na ne - in a barbie world a e cho toi see - life in plastic ne cho song nu nemaa - it's fantastic...
somehow missed this upload!! but im so glad you did the japanese version of weight of the world. glad you enjoyed what you heard, i guarantee you'd love the rest of the soundtrack (and seconding the people recommending you check out replicant). also if you do a part 2 of automata it'd be cool if you checked out english weight of the world for comparison. it's also very pretty, but a different vibe. it's also sung by J'nique Nicole, the second, deeper vocalist on A Beautiful Song. her voice is SO GORGEOUS and full I love it. it makes me happy to see more people discovering this wonderful game through it's music, which is how i found the original game so many years ago.
Waiting for her to do Bipolar Nightmare, lol. Or that song I forget the name of it, that the robots sing "This cannot continue". Would probably have to actually watch in-game footage because I don't know if the robots' singing is included in the OST, I think it's actually voice lines played while playing the game, but the voices add so much to the piece.
The thing about this game is that if you know how it goes, you will start crying quite quickly. It's one of the few that really got to me on an emotional level. However, I can still play the game unlike with What Remains of Edith Finch which broke me too much to ever play it again. I just can't deal with a young mother dying before she ever gets a chance to even begin raising her child.
Some of Nier Automata's songs have 3 versions, English, Japanese and Chaos. I think Weight Of The World also has a Chaos version. 9:46 Yes, she is crying, usualy you have to be emotional to be crying.
It was great seeing you enjoy these songs! Now imagine hearing all these songs and associating them with an urgent purpose steeped in implicit existential questions you never had time to contemplate. The game's equally masterful narrative structure adds a whole other layer to the baclava. (I was gonna say cake, but baclava has like 40 layers so I thought it would be more appropriate.)
There's three different language versions of Weight of the World, and iirc which one you hear over the credits actually depends on _which ending you get._ Ending A, English. Ending B, Japanese. Ending C and D use what I think is a French-based made-up language called "Chaos Language". ...there's also a fourth version you may hear in the game, tied to a _final_ ending that the player has to well and truly earn.
This soundtrack is really outstanding❤ the first time i played this game i actually cried because you can just FEEL all the emotions... and then the beautiful, yet humiliating story... its such a masterpiece The languages here are actually a mashup of different languages. I think its Russian, French, English, Japanese and just languages in general that count as beautiful Possessed by Disease is my absolute favourite! Its so mesmerizing
Nier Automata is my favorite video game of all time, and its OST is one of the best i've ever heard, I hope you get to experience it's beauty further and listen to even more of it's incredible music, Keiichi Okabe is a musical GENIUS.

Not trying to be weird, but you def have to play the games to get the “true” feeling of these songs. They represent different dynamics and philosophies of the game. @@InterstellarClouddThe game actually ruined it for me. Too much inconsistency and nonsense robbed me of a really good tragic story. I couldn't cry a single tear and I'm quite mad at the Yoko Taro for it.
Sounds like you have your own issues@@rustygear447
Most of the lyrics of these songs do not come from a real language
The singer Emi Evans, who has been part of this series for a while and has provided vocals for many songs in this video, was tasked by the composer to help create lyrics in a made up language, the “Chaos Language“
The idea is that it is supposed to sound like an actual language taking influences from many real existing languages but ultimately the lyrics don’t mean anything
I believe the explanation she's given in the past is that she was thinking about how real languages might sound after a couple thousand years have passed, which is why some songs sound closer to certain languages than others. like kaine salvation's lyrics sound very gaelic, for example.
Didn't she acknowledge chaos language at the start?
@@mango-floatyeah, pretty sure it was always called chaos language since she first worked on the series
It's mindblowing
fun fact for you. possessed by disease? all one vocalist. nami nakagawa. yes, she has THAT MUCH range.
And also the O.G Popola singing voice
Yes! The performance of the live version is almost literally insane.
Theres just so much packed into both the lyrics and her performance, and it never fails to put a tear in my eye
Also, on the note of chaos language: what you've heard is correct, it isn't any particular real language.
I actually started tearing up during Weight of the World. Gosh darn it this song gets my emotions worked up! 😭
every context in which weight of the world is played is extremely bitter sweet. It takes a lot to get me to cry, especially out of a story or a game....I cry every time weight of the world plays ingame and I tear up when it comes up randomly in my library [as I have the ost, love the nier series]
Drakengard 3's final boss theme was also composed and sang by the same people, and it's one hell of a ride. I know you'd love it!
Are you me?
Check out Ar Tonelico's openings if you haven't. Akiko Shikata is probably right up your alley.
I just can't xD the face she does when the song just explodes in her face at 15:50
During Weight Of The World the singer actually cried during the recording and they decided to keep it
Nier Automata is arguably the best game i have ever played.
I feel like it’s a game that tells a story only a game could tell, and everything comes together to be much greater than the sum of its parts.
@@trevorveillette8415quality over quantity imo, replicating has a lot more quality memorable ost’s than automata.
I highly recommend playing the game yourself, fully, if you at all love video games and beautiful audio-visual design.
fun fact:when weight of the world pops up in the game ending you can hear a version singed by all the development team and yoko taro himself too
Emi Evans and J'nique Nicole KILLED IT at the NieR Orchestra tour singing A Beautiful Song duet live, good lordt.
Oooooh you gotta do Replicant now. With Shadowlord, Snow in Summer and then ofc Song of The Ancients
I have not watched it all yet but I already suggest making a part 2
I love Weight of the World, i do highly recommend also listening to the English if you don't speak Japanese. In my opinion the lyrics are as beautiful as the song itself and the experience is only heightened by actually understanding what she is saying.
The lyrics in the English version are actually completely different from the Japanese though. If you haven't looked up a translation for the JP lyrics, I definitely recommend doing so. Even it's title is different, meaning "The song of a broken world" rather than "weight of the world."
She needs to revisit a lot of soundtracks!
The last level is the hardest because you can't see because of all off your tears.
Now you need to listen to 'NieR Replicant' soundtrack, which is a prequel to NieR: Automata, and by the same composer.
0:44 Yeah, that was my first reaction to Emi Evans, too: she deserves to be a household name!
This game had me curled up in agony at the end lol. Music, story, and game itself is on another level
I'd name more tracks as they are all sooo good, but these I think are my favorites.
i was NOT ready for vague hope (cold rain) as the first track, that song makes me actually cry whenever i hear it
vague hope (cold rain) plays during the emotional climax of the game - in my opinion the most emotional scene in any game i've ever played. the only other game that comes even close is Persona 5.
Ah, I see you're a fellow Shikikunt as well. o7
I can't listen to Weight of the World without tearing up.... EVERY. SINGLE. VERSION. damn!! 😂
Highly recommend the English version of Weight of the World for part 2. You'll understand why the Japanese singer was crying at the end.
Tho I'm not sure the lyrics are exactly the same, don't know japanese but i've seen some people say it's slightly different reflecting each ending. But it miight be just the internet being the internet
@@JonnZth It's quite different. Delivers a similar tale and emotion, but let's just say that English is more hitting on the nose.
Not disagreeing with anything, but the version labeled as french is actually chaos language though.
When you play the first one and then hear emil theme again in automata just make me wanna cry
Emil (Despair) with proper context is GUTWRENCHING. This game and soundtrack are, no exaggeration, one of the best things I have EVER experienced.
Oof. BEAUTIFUL. Can't wait for part 2. And hoping you'll get to NieR Replicant someday! That OST is masterful.
As a long time NieR fan, your joy at this OST is amazing to see! Both Replicant and Automata have incredible music that often brings me to tears.
We need more Nier: Automata, please do a part 2, you gotta listen to Beautiful Song, City of Ruins, Rays of light, and PLEASE do Amusement Park
Platinum Games have some of the best music in all of video games, would love to see Bayonetta, Astral Chain, and Metal Gear Rising in the future.
And Okami too, what they made in the before times as Studio Clover.
@@TornaitSuperBird of course
Automata has such a banger OST. Really good choice
Knowing the full story, weight of the world hits like a ton of bricks.. Especially the final version with the choir at the end credits
That and there are many variants of the songs within the soundtracks themselves and they are a treat to listen to separately since they convey a different feeling, so you might want to look up the other 3 Weight of the World variants (I highly recommend saving the song End of YorHa ver. last after hearing the rest of weight of the world)
It is also wonderful you were able to glean so much without knowing the source material thus I would say you are in for a wonderful and heartbreaking journey. Please go in blind and enjoy the show~
Nier automata - even robot and android have a heart and a soul.
I am begging you to do more parts on this games soundtrack.
Honestly every song in it is amazing
Such joy that you decided to listen to the Japanese version of Weight of the World! The English version of the song has somewhat more hopeful lyrics, while the Japanese version's lyrics are despairing... Massive props to the singer that managed to rein it in just enough to keep singing!
Posessed by Disease is such an underrated song, in my opinion, one of the best in the ost.
I wish i could erase this game from my mind, so i could experience this soundtrack again for the first time.
Really great selection! I love that you listened to a variety and not the top 5 fan favorites.
Keiichi! I-
Glory To Mankind.
Nier soundtrack is my all-time favorite. My favorite songs: Ashes of dreams, Kaine Salvation, Weight of the World, Emil Sacrifice.
There’s a version of Weight of the World where the English, Japanese and French version singers are all singing it
Believe it’s called the YoRHa version
This coupled with the story made me cry like a baby like in the FFX ending. Manly tears, of course.
In Weight of the World she started crying in the studio and thought she screwed it up, but they kept it in anyway.
The version of Weight of the World that switches between English, Japanese, and Chaos language is top tier.
my favorite is amusement park, it captures the vibe so perfectly
The Weight of the World is so much powerful in the credits... but you have to play it to get it, it HITS so hard
emil's song really reminds me barbie girls by aqua:
dua ruma ni - i'm a barbie girl
kuri ga me noque na ne - in a barbie world
a e cho toi see - life in plastic
ne cho song nu nemaa - it's fantastic...
somehow missed this upload!! but im so glad you did the japanese version of weight of the world. glad you enjoyed what you heard, i guarantee you'd love the rest of the soundtrack (and seconding the people recommending you check out replicant). also if you do a part 2 of automata it'd be cool if you checked out english weight of the world for comparison. it's also very pretty, but a different vibe. it's also sung by J'nique Nicole, the second, deeper vocalist on A Beautiful Song. her voice is SO GORGEOUS and full I love it.
it makes me happy to see more people discovering this wonderful game through it's music, which is how i found the original game so many years ago.
Birth of a Wish is what you're looking for.
I cant help but cry whenever I hear Weight of the World play.
This soundtrack is really outstanding❤ the first time i played this game i actually cried because you can just FEEL all the emotions... and then the beautiful, yet humiliating story... its such a masterpiece
The languages here are actually a mashup of different languages. I think its Russian, French, English, Japanese and just languages in general that count as beautiful
Possessed by Disease is my absolute favourite! Its so mesmerizing
I listened to the soundtrack before I ever played the game and became an utter fan! Just beautiful music.
Nier Automata is my favorite video game of all time, and its OST is one of the best i've ever heard, I hope you get to experience it's beauty further and listen to even more of it's incredible music, Keiichi Okabe is a musical GENIUS.
