The lyrics and song material were inspired by Hetfield's anguish on the circumstances surrounding his mother's death. She died of cancer after refusing medical attention, solely relying on her belief in God to heal her. Hetfield felt that had she not followed her Christian Science beliefs, she could have survived.
I concur
Yep literally the God that failed
@@ooloncolluphid360 nope...God never failed...Hetfield's mother failed the test...
MKF 3175 lord. There’s always one of you crackpots
@@hughjoelcock7145 God is perfect..God cannot failed..God will never failed...human are imperfect..so u think??
I think that this was one of Metallica's "hidden gems" in their entire music catalog!

Both of y'all are so right, if I may add another, suicide and redemption is slept on

Metallica - My Friend of Misery (Black album)

Goin deep on the black album! Nice! "Through The Never"and "Of Wolf and Man" are my favorite songs from that album.
I dont like Enter Sandman purely because it has been played to death, but besides that, the black album is by far my favourite album ever.
@@cyrilfiggis7978 (...) You like them 1991's album, but I LOVE THEM LAST (2016's) RECORD.
Because of GREAT PRODUCTION, JAMES' SOLOS, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY - because of the VERY VERY COOL LYRICS!!!!!!!!!!
@@igortokarski9517 i love that album too 👍👍👍
I am proud of you mate, one of the best Metallica songs I can listen to it non stop for hours, a lot of meaning behind the song which I also have a lot of thoughts on.
This is my favorite track on the album. I dug the album, got to that song, and I was sold
Greetings from Mexico City 🇲🇽!!!
“I hear faith in your cries.” That’s a kid listening to his mother suffer and knowing he can’t do anything to stop it.
Awesome words from your react. 💎
One of my favourite solos.
Like a nice kick in the face
one of my favorite bands!
Metallica- and justice for all
The title track
This.
India, I love how deep you get into these songs 👌 keep doing what you're doing, would love to know your thoughts on a couple of tunes by Damian Marley, maybe "Patience" and "Speak Life" ✌
React to metallica- bleeding me
It’s about his Mom was a Christian that doesn’t believe in medical science. I forget the name of the denomination, she had treatable condition.
Christian Scientists.
F-zero91maru that’s insulting perhaps try a different tact
@@rbsayegh31 insulting and untrue.
Perhaps you could find it in your heart to react to a live performance by metallica. Their performance of "...and justice for all" live in Seattle 1989 is epic.
The singer wrote a follow up called “Mama Said,” it was a song where he made peace with his mom for dying on him when he was young.
Great song timeless
Sp Perfect Circle has the song Judith, about his mom & hert faint in God , same scenario as this one. He feels resentful because her fainth is what held her back basically.
Loving that bass yeah? 😁😁
Hi India. I live your reactions! Why dont you do more Metallica? The Shortest Straw, Disposable Heroes, Battery, or some S&M material like No leaf Clover or The Call of Ktulu. Love you!
The solo is absolutely disgusting , filthy , dirty , and by that I mean AMAZING lol
Metallica!!!
This is metal royalty
Que rolon esa de metallica yeah lml
if you are hurt have faith
There are no bad tracks on this album. Only good ones and great ones.
It's a hell of a downward spiritual spiral that I'm caught up in right now. A full-blown crisis of faith for sure. Damn.
While the Talica boys still had Kahoonas. Great album
Daily miracle: I live on an unstable ball of liquid that orbits an unstable ball of fire. Wheeee what a ride!
The central theme of the song is faith and human reliance on it, and of unrewarded belief in a God that fails to heal. The lyrics and song material were inspired by Hetfield's anguish on the circumstances surrounding his mother's death.[3] She died of cancer after refusing medical attention, solely relying on her belief in God to heal her.[4] Hetfield felt that had she not followed her Christian Science beliefs, she could have survived.[5]
You are spot on. James was angry about family members death from cancer. Raised with a Christian faith, he is angry
It was Christian Science, it’s not real Christianity
React to Mónica Naranjo (sobreviviré) en vivo.
Into the night Benny mardonas is great song
If there was ever a word that can trigger this world, it's "God".
As I sometimes say, if omnipotence is incapable, what is capable? If nothing, why create?
Metallica - Halo on Fire
It’s not really a generalized thing, it’s pretty much how he felt as though God failed his mother with what happened with her and the whole Christian Science thing. I don’t know if you remember but you reacted to Until It Sleeps by Metallica a while back, that song was based around the same issue this one is.
I’m a Christian myself, and even though I personally would never make that kind of statement about God, I do love this song though. It’s my 2nd favorite song off this album. And I would take a song with a meaning like this over a song that’s meaning is along the lines of saying there is no god.
Hetfield is a conservative Christian to this day, he had angel wings on his arm to show how God protected him from alcohol and drug overdose
I’m a Christian too. But I do love the song, especially the instrumentals is the main reason I listen to it, that and some of Hetfield’s best vocals are on this album. Now, while I don’t agree with the lyrics, I do see where Hetfield’s mind was when we wrote the song, I mean, his dad walked out when he was 13, his mom died when he was 16 due to her beliefs in Christian Science, then he turned to alcoholism, I mean, this is probably how I’d expect someone in that situation to react.
Hetfields moms beliefs were Christian Science...which is way different then Christian

God sure didn't fail Metallica, This album would become their Biggest selling ever , Maybe they failed God.

Indeed there is ...
THE MIRACULOUS IMAGE ON THE SHROUD OF TURIN
endtimesdarknessdescending.wordpress.com/2018/09/01/the-miraculous-image-on-the-shroud-of-turin-the-conclusive-final-say/
@@endtimesdarknessdescending5634 The actual evidence of the shroud of turin completely disagrees with your assertion. You religious people literally accept anything as evidence for something you already believe and reject all evidence to the contrary. It's a sad thing.
@@eve_l remember when Bush did 9/11
I doubt you even read the article. If you did, what can I say except the evidence speaks for itself and that obviously science and hard scientific facts are not your strong suite. In a court of law, the evidence would be more than sufficient to render the verdict that the identity of the man on the Shroud of Turin is indeed Jesus Christ. It doesn't need my pre-conceived belief or theological insertion to convict on that account.
So tell me what this "actual evidence" is you speak of that contradicts the actual science of the shroud's authenticity. I'll be waiting Evey.
The beauty of music is that's open to interpretation. My take...we are the God's that failed and betrayed God. The healing hand is held back by the nail we placed in his hand....
Well no, we literally know the meaning of the song. Not every interpretation is valid.
This song is about Christan Scientists. It is about someone refusing medical care for their child and he dies. James Hetfield was raised as a Christian Scientist. He lost his mother to cancer because she refused treatment

One by metallica (videoclip)
He sings to the religion that he's mom was part of
James's mother died of cancer. She was a christian scientist and did not believe in medicine. Her god would save her from cancer. Well, she died, and her teenage son saw this as a god that failed...
let’s have lunch
God is an absentee landlord
THE SONG SHOULD OF BEEN CALLED
"THE GOD WE FAILED" ✝️
Nonsense.
Look a bit deeper, you may understand, it is not denouncing God, pay a little more attention 😊❤️🇬🇧
Thoughts and prayers have never healed any anguish. It is a complete waste of time
It's a mistake to group everyone with faith into a single category. That would be like saying all black folks . . . .
The singer is talking specifically about his mother. She was a Christian Scientist. You should remember though, it was the 70s. Cancer was a much less survivable disease back then. So would she have survived had she gotten help earlier? Impossible to know. She might have died either way.
I can honestly agree because, sorry, but GOD is not perfect. He will do his best, but there are times when he does fail.
god can't fail since he doesn't exist to begin with.
Totally missed the meaning
