- In this second episode of Ladi's Rockucation, Mark has Ladi listen to Metallica's "The God That Failed." Ladi has never heard this song before, and while Mark provides him with the lyrics to follow along, Mark waits until after Ladi has listened to and discussed the entire song before he shows Ladi an interview with James Hetfield. After Ladi learns about Hetfield's past, Ladi and Mark discuss Metallica's music in greater depth.
We'd highly recommend you watch Part I of this episode before watching this one. In that episode, Ladi watches the music video for Metallica's "The Unforgiven." You can go here to watch that: • Ladi Watches Metallica...
This is the interview with James Hetfield Mark has Ladi watch: • A rare interview with ...

Thank you for leading me to these videos! As a Christian who is also a Metallica fan I found that interview with James very interesting. I knew that the song Dyer's Eve was an angry poem to his parents based on his upbringing but I didn't really know what The God That Failed was about. I know that Maynard from the band Tool has had a similar background with Christian science as well.
It's so funny you mention Tool. I've thought about doing a matchup between "Judith" and "The God That Failed," but every time I've started to put the episode together I get so depressed I don't wanna finish it. My mom passed away from cancer, and I just know I'll either a) cry on camera; b) get so depressed the episode just stinks.
Thanks for checking this one out. We appreciate it. If you haven't checked out part I of this episode we'd encourage you to do so. Ladi was blown away by the video and lyrics of "The Unforgiven."
The God That Failed is a song Hetfield wrote about his Mother and her death from cancer. His parents were Christian Scientists, and didn't believe in modern medicine and such. So his Mother would deny treatment as her belief in god and conformity to her belief was stronger than her want to seek help for it. It's also about his anger at how the religion separated him from society and how the god his parents taught him to believe in, failed he and his Mother.
This is really good content. Keep rocking!

Wow
I know i am kind of late to this video, but i really like the concept of someone sharring his love/knowledge for some kind of song to someone else who don't know them. Mark just give Ladi info, he is not just being a fan. The only thing i think i would have like, is more about the "production" side of this. Maybe this is the only time you didn't do this. Anyway, great video that I will use to introduce people to that song that I love.
We're glad you liked the video! We have a playlist that's dedicated to rockucating Ladi, so we hope you check it out. You can find that here: ua-cam.com/play/PL6kwOcqXuEnVUY-Upmyjk1_VxpjiJLLCl.html
Can you tell us a little more about the production side? How the songs/bands produced their music, or how we produce our videos?
And thanks for checking out our content. We hope you hit the subscribe button and stick around.
Please do Inamorata, both of you! and Fixxxer!!!
I wish I could show you where James lived in Downey CA (the city is right next to my city and our high schools were football rivals) but I can't find anywhere the house he lived in. Only the high school he went to. The house where Metallica started in Norwalk CA was torn down to build a freeway. The Beach Boys house was torn down for the same reason. The "Metallica" house was 3 miles from me.
Oh wow. That's very cool! You grew up next to Metallica Ground Zero!
@@LikeMindedLunatics and the childhood home of the Van Halen brothers in Pasadena is about a half hour away from me.
Sammy Hagar grew up in Chino CA and that is about an hour from me.
Oh and the band No Doubt is from Anaheim CA. They lived not too far from Disneyland which is about 30 minutes from me.
There are many more musical artists that grew up in Southern CA. It's pretty neat!
You and Ladi should come visit some time. I'd love to show you around while listening to good tunes in the car. 😛
HA! We'd love that!
And if you ever find yourself in Austin, Ladi and I are producers of a live storytelling show called "Testify." It's a monthly storytelling series, and if you're ever in town, come check it out: www.testifyatx.com/
It's about James's mother religion
Yep. We discuss that at length in the reaction.
Do they understand what this is really about?
I know. It's like they don't even get us.
The song is about his mother getting cancer and not seeking help she believed in God would heal her
We discuss that at length in our video.
