  • Build Sound test & RGB demo
    - Tester 84
    - Gateron Milky Yellow Pro with 205g0
    - OEM Pudding Caps
    - Full silicon set from kit
    - Tap mod
The RGB really gave my camera focus issues and the flicker is not visible in real life.

This is pretty much the setup I'm aiming to buy in the future , still in doubt if I should buy the gateron yellow pro or the milky pro

To be fair, there will not be much difference apart from the sound profile of the switches. I think the milky sound a little deeper but not much in it. Both are factory lubed.
That said, when I was building this one out initially I had a time getting an even sound across the board surface so even though factory lubed I cracked them all open and lubed with 205g0 which toned things down to a more even keel as the high pitch sounds were the issue I was fighting. The caps did not help, I find pudding caps have a higher pitch sound than full PBT.
The key points with this board to getting good sound are:
      - Pull the silicon and fill the "battery void" in the silicon with something. I used Felt here. Then re-fit the silicon
      - Tape the board to cut some of the higher pitch sounds as they are the problem for consistency
      - Lube with 205g0
      - Make sure when screwing in the board/plate the screws are even tightness or you create slight flexes that give more uneven sound. Light finger tight is best imho
If you do hand lube might be worth getting standard yellows, although from my sources the Milky Pro and normal Yellows are near the same price.
The stabs it comes with are also not bad, real tight fit also. Once lubed they come up good. I use 205g0 on housing and dielectric grease on the wires.
      Hope that helps :)

Have you tried the gmk67? I'm torn between these two keyboards. I dont like how the tester84 has space under the keys, I feel like that will collect a lot of dust faster than the GMK67 that doesn't have that gap under the keycaps.

Not sure what you are on about fully. The space under the caps is the standard space you will find in EVERY keyboard that uses MX style mechanical switches. The GMK67 is exactly the same and both, like every mechanical keyboard on the market will collect dust. Have built a few different GMK67, see other vids I have uploaded :)
There is a lot of choice in the budget space at the moment
      - Tester84 - Nice weight to it because the Aluminium frame. Can sound good with a bit of care. (Closed source software)
      - GMK67 - Cheaper feel to the case but still feels nice. Has good sound stock and easy to work with (Closed source software)
      - GMK87 - Just out now. TKL version of the GMK67 that supports VIA! Not had hands on yet.
      - GMK84 - Just out now. 75% version of the GMK67. Not looked too close but assume this supports VIA also
Then you get into the new Aluminium boards such as the Sugar65 etc.
All the GMKxx boards and the Tester have seen big price drops recently so shop around. I think you can get the Tester84 and the GMK67 for about $30usd if you time well now. The new GMK87 looks like starts at around $40usd
I think I prefer the Tester84 over the GMK67 but they are both very different boards. If the Tester84 had VIA support it would be great board

@@WarrenLeggatt I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge on the subject. Im most likely going to go with the gmk87 unless I change my mind while shopping around for switches. I’ll also check out the other boards you mentioned.

How to find software to change LGB light?

    • @WarrenLeggatt
      @WarrenLeggatt  5 місяців тому

That is the issue with many cheaper boards that do not support QMK/VIA, they rely on software that is close source and comes from gdrive links and the like. If you look for the Tester84 on AliExp and look in the listings you might find a download link for the driver.
I have built a few of these boards for people and like the boards but do not recomend the software as there is no official link from CIY. This means it is a huge risk to install on your machine. If you are on Mac then I doubt there is any software.
Because the layout on these boards is sane and there is a big selection of RGB that you can control from shortcuts the people I have built for are OK with the base layout.
Good luck but personally I would not trust any software that is not from official sources.
