    The original stuff wasn't. It's the "Sandwich" that was developed in Berlin, because Germans don't sit down for 2 hours to eat, like the Turkish do, but seemed to eat while walking somewhere, or wanted it quick, and stuff like that.

    Kebab was developed by the nomadic Turks just like Yogurt. Kebab is just a form of grilling.. There are many forms of kebab from veggies to meat. Europeans and North American's mainly eat what i like to call mystery meat, ground up something thats put on a rod and cooked. I think one needs to visit Turkey to get the essence of what real kebab and a kebab house is all about.

    Good job. Remember Turkish shish,especially when you have chicken on your skewer, would need some veggies in between the meat. Give it a couple of slices of aubergine, green pepper, tomato, zuchini... One other thing is if you're saucing it with yoghurt, use red meat. It's more traditional. Chicken usually goes well with salad and bread, but a lot of red meat kebaps use yogurt as a sauce.

    Been cooking a slightly modified version of this several times. Such a great combination of spices with the chicken and the rice in combination with chicken stock, garlic, pepper and tomatoes is really nice.

    -dumps starchy water onto the floor because, well, it's a rooftop
    -does a samba and hip-rolls before throwing coriander into the pot
    -gleefully references crimes happening as police sirens pass through
    -smiles maniacally at the camera as he pours vodka into a blood mary

    this has nothing to do with Turkish kebap, seriously what is this? also no one uses coriander in Turkish dishes, many Turks don’t even know what coriander is, stop adding coriander to every single dish

    (I'm specifically talking about döner kebab here, just to make it clear) It was not? I'm not sure, my friends always used to point this out when we went to get one. When this is wrong, I stand corrected, I guess. But döner is one of the most eaten fast-food dishes in germany, and maybe the way it's done there (meat, salad put into a bread) originated there as well. Wikipedia says otherwise though. :-/

    1836? Wow, did you ask wikipedia and skipped down to the first date without reading the article?
    There's a quote from a german who worked for the ottoman empire, telling how they ate lunch at a restaurant, beeing served meat in a flatbread. The "doner kebap" was "invented" about 1.5 centuries later. Though, as implied, roasting meat on a vertical grill and eating it wrapped in bread is much older and not invented by turkish immigrants in germany

    You really shouldn't add coriander when cooking turkish cuisine. They never use it, pretty much.
    I'm Turkish, I have been in a buttload of turkish restaurants in Turkey, and I've never seen ANY coriander leaves or stalks, didn't even have any coriander taste. That acutally is pretty sad, because I love the taste of coriander, but well, if you wanna be the really strict traditional cook, don't do it.

    • @senizx
      @senizx 9 років тому

      Clearly you aren't turkish! Turks practically dream of coriander!

    • @TheCrimsonLP
      @TheCrimsonLP 9 років тому +1

      +Shen S From what I've experienced I haven't seen it anywhere, I feel like it's a common misconception since it's used a lot in countries around Turkey. And I am Turkish. My grandmother which is almost in her 70s and has been cooking for since she is married has never heard of koriander.

    • @senizx
      @senizx 9 років тому

      John Bello I'm Turkish Cypriot so perhaps this is why

    • @BarQiest
      @BarQiest 8 років тому +4

      +Shen S probably you're mixing up with parsley. I know ppl in Cyprus use and like coriander but we use parsley in Turkey. They look very similar but taste different..
      Btw this recipe is not turkish. It is definitely not..

    Great video, but one correction. There is NO GREEK yogurt . It is authentically Turkish and developed over a thousand years ago. Its such a marketing gimmick. Read Wikipedia : The word is derived from Turkish: yoğurt,[3] and is related to the obsolete verb yoğmak "to be curdled or coagulated; to thicken".[4] The letter ğ was traditionally rendered as "gh" in transliterations of Turkish prior to 1928

      Have you never washed your rice before cooking it? It is to get rid of the starch so that the rice grains don't stick together. Plus, a prolonged water dip soaks the rice just like any other grain. Chucking rice in boiling water is not the only way to cook it, you know...
