Pentatonix was planning on just doing background vocals, but Dolly insisted they sing lead for a part of it. That's Dolly....always thinking about others before herself. At the end of the song Dolly interacted affectionately with Kirstie and Scott. Great to see that. They were VERY impressed with her as a person. This earned them their 3rd Grammy award.
In 1975, Dolly received a Grammy award nomination for Jolene for Best Country Vocal Performance (female) but did not win. The following year, her live version of Jolene received the same nomination but she didn't win that one either. 41 years later, she finally won a Grammy for performing Jolene, this time in the category Best Country Duo/Group Performance along with Pentatonix.

Scott actually shaved Mitch’s head in a Superfruit video. Mitch had always wanted to try it so they did it for one of their vlogs.
I’m sure someone will mention this but PTX had prepared to just sing the backup for Dolly but she insisted on them taking a verse. A gracious performer!

My favorite moment is actually at the very end, where Dolly gives that little happy jump and they all relax and change from being perfect vocal gods back into normal human beings.

Great pairing of voices. They really did an incredible job on this song. It was worth a Grammy even though it was short. I wish they’d do more together. Thanks for following PTX. You’ll have plenty of material to react to because they have 13 years worth of performances to cover. My favorites are their live performances on TV and their concerts from Hollywood Bowl 2022 and the Christmas livestream 2023.

Dolly had written this song decades earlier ( she wrote it the same day she wrote I Will Always Love You) She had won many Grammys, but never one for Jolene. PTX and Dolly won a Grammy for this collab that PTX arranged. Imagine showing up to sing with Dolly, thinking she is singing all the lead, and you find yourselves with Dolly singing backup on the last verse ❤❤❤❤❤ ❤ Love your reaction Their catalog truly runs very deep and they are all awesome in unique ways

Another great reaction, Saeed. I'd like to suggest as your PTX song, My Heart With You (Hollywood Bowl 2022). They lay down their mikes and do it 'Old School' live! It laid a spell over the huge crowd without a single sound being heard other than their voices. Once ended, the crowd erupted! It showcases why PTX is who they are. ❤❤

Great reaction, thanks. Mitch ruined his hair. He dyed it blond, then purple. In one of the Superfruit episodes,he decided to shave it off with Scott's help. At first he liked being bald, but later some regrets crept in

According to Parton, the song was inspired by a red-headed bank clerk who flirted with her husband, Carl Dean, at his local bank branch around the time they were newly married. In an interview, she also revealed that Jolene's name and appearance are based on that of a young fan who came on stage for her autograph. 👑💜

Pentatonix is truly genre-less which may be why they don’t get airplay. They aren’t a pop group because they won a Grammy for arranging a medley of Daft Punk EDM songs. They aren’t an EDM group because their second Grammy was from arranging Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy a classical tune from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky. They aren’t a classical group because they won their third Grammy with country icon Dolly Parton singing a remake of Jolene a country song. They are a jack of all genres (trades) but they are truly Masters of all of it.
