My two cents worth: Trailers are built to a price point. Like you, I purchased the two trailer I've owned on a budget. I only spend 2-3 months a year in my trailers. I am a large old guy. My trailers have both been toy haulers...I always travel with a motorcycle or two. Like you, I have had minor problems that I address myself. I LOVE your current setup, with the truck as a short trip option. I thoroughly enjoy your content. Keep up the great work...and enjoy yourself.
I love the wintertime videos with the snow. So peaceful and serene. ❤
Brooklyn Bedding is THE BEST. I’m glad to see you showcase them.
Glad to hear your honest opinion on your trailer home. You made a wise decision to fix your non-major issues. Reputable RV repair shop are very, very, very hard to find (I speak from 30 years camping experience), I'm still looking for a good one 😢.
Great recap of your unit.
Thank you so much Ken. It seems like dealerships don’t even want to deal with the warranty repairs. :(
I think that the dealers are forcing into this position because the manufacturers leave them challenged to get reimbursement for their "warranty" work.
Hi Cat…we are currently traveling in ours. We replaced our mattress with a mattress from RV Mattress and last nite was our first sleep on it, we both slept so good. Our dog, Cabela, had no compliants either :)
Our camper is a 2020 and we’ve had issues with ours too. Thankfully nothing we couldn’t handle ourselves too.
Love seeing Birdie in your videos :)
Nothing gets you down for long! Glad to hear you are still overall happy with the trailer after a year. We love seeing Birdie! Our Pom stares at the tv intently when Birdie is in the video. Thanks again for 2 videos this week!
You are doing great with your fixes. One thing you might want to check into is greasing your axle hubs before you get traveling. Stay safe and warm.
Morning Cat--It was fortuitous that you were renovating your sister's camper trailer, as you acquired some more carpentry skills that you can now apply towards addressing the problems in your own trailer. It not only will be better quality once you're finished but also add even more of your own personal touch to your trailer. I love the birch tree shower curtain your sister gave you, as it really brightens the bathroom as well as reflects your natural surroundings. Have fun with your home improvements! Jenny
The shower curtain will be the best 12 bucks and three minutes you have invested! It really made the place your home! Side note: I cannot believe I have been watching you for three entire years now!
My Wife Amber and I decided that we were finally able to support you. Thank you for your content. We were both shocked about the extra sleeping place and the fact that your table broke. That would be the only part of your fixes that we think the company should send you a new table or pay for your materials. ❤😮❤❤
There are pros and cons with everything. Keeping a positive attitude keep’s experiences enjoyable.
You have a wonderful eye for nature’s beauty that comes through in your videos! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
Yes, luv the snowing of March, yes moisture is a great help, enjoy rest of your day Cat..be safe, also thanks for taking us nm along..God bless
Disappointing about the craftsmanship, but how exciting and great that you have found your own abilities to make changes! Love the shower curtain. You do a great job with your videos! 😍
Glad to hear that the problems are minor and that now you know that you can fix the problems by up grading the repairs. Your confidence is great to see. You are special. Take care
Keystone would be wise to reach out to you and make things right. There should be zero fit and finish issues after gentle use, by one person, for one year. Your recap was extremely diplomatic and generous!
I'm hoping the structure and exterior were constructed with better materials and workmanship than the interior. 💛
Yeah, they need to pay her to take this down. No way would I buy one of these things after watching this video.
Teddy, you don’t have much experience with RVs…from low cost to high cost all RVs have issues.
Teddy we have a Jayco and I talked to someone who worked in the RV industry, and they are basically built to last a few years and then the issues start if they last that long.
We have had several and our 2016 Jayco has had its fair share of issues. Were just glad I am handy and have been able to fix them.
We resealed our roof 2 years ago with a product most laugh at, but it has been a blessing the inside temp has been reduced and I know it will last for a long time and no worries about leaks with this product.
@@filosworld.1705 Was it Flex Seal you used on your roof?
@@pauldavisadams5665 Yes it was.
Come East this summer, Kat! The Great Smoky Mtns, the Adirondacks, and the White Mtns are calling you!
100% agreed. Today's travel trailers are built like complete 💩! But, you seem to be pretty lucky to have as few problems as you've had, especially considering you live in it full time. As allways, you're AWESOME! Thanx for the videos!
I'm a DIY Truck Camper guy who also had a Lance but moved into a new Host Mammoth for more room and glamping comfort for myself and my 4 legged best friend. In my not so humble experience of owning, repairing, and improving these units, I will say you're lucky with only cosmetic issues! My Host had about 3 dozen issues that ran the gambit of safety, convivence, efficiency, and cosmetics. Since you're also handy and more importantly, knowing your limitation BUT willing to learn beyond them, tackling these repairs yourself will give you much more going forward than having someone do it for you. I wouldn't let the manufacture skate away free IF the problems involve parts... most will supply those directly to you under warranty.
As far as a RV mattress... I use to like memory foam until I discovered they are like sleeping on a cold rock in the winter. I'll check out your endorsement! Safe travels!
We have a 2020 Springdale toy hauler, and have made lots of changes/swaps to make it more usable for us. Main changes: Took out all THREE (yes 3) jack-knife couches, and replaced with one Walmart futon that I can move around. Relaced the heavy finger-pinching table with a folding wall mounted table. Love it now. 👍
Truth & grace. That’s what I got from the video.
Appreciate your consistent passion, fortitude, joy, simplicity. Qualities that make life meaningful and good!
Have very much enjoyed your journeys over the years. Keep at it! 🏕️
We're always happy to see your videos whenever they're posted and whatever they're about. We are the majority that don't always let us know our appreciation. That's why the negative "opinions" you referenced seem significant. They are not!
You chose wisely vehicles,"homes" and words.Time wears on all things, things change over time.Gaining repair and building skills and confidence was an added bonus.A gift of time.Take care great video with "proper decorum "
Yes, a brutal winter in the Mountain West. Cold.
You are a nice person Catherine.
They don't build anything like the good old days anymore. Customization is key. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.
All RV's have issues, so far you are lucky.☘☘☘
Great balance, beautiful photography, nice job.
Wonderful video, love the information, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your upgrade videos.
Thanks for the update. They had to cut costs somewhere to meet the budgets of the consumer. They probably weren't built for living in everyday so a few cosmetic small repairs upgrades are worth it. Have you ever been on the roof and inspected the caulking on the seams? Everything needs maintenance even a house so not too big of a deal.
Thanks for the videos happy trails.
Ahhh. Sunday morning with Cat. I love your content. It is real. It is peaceful. Good Sunday morning.
The side of the seat cushion decorative piece that fell off has a purpose. To keep the cushion in it's place while traveling. When you lower that piece your cushion will fall off in travel. Just put sticky back velcrow on the bottom of the cushion to keep it in place. I like the rest of your ideas.
That’s a great idea. It actually fits in there so snug that it doesn’t move at all. Thank you!
You might replace the brackets with full length, ample width, wood pieces. Full support for the tabletop/bed.
That's what they did 20 years ago with the dinette table brackets. They're probably saving 4.95 per trailer using those cheap plastic ones.
@@bubbafringman1864 Its called planned obselence! I call it dirtbags schemes.
Catherine, you work so hard for and are so helpful to your viewers. It's endearing. And your content is top-shelf. This review of your camper performance and maintenance is spot-on. As always, great content, production, quality and especially presentation! Cheers.
It’s your home and if you’re happy there that is what really matters! Whatever the home is , theirs always repairs .
Damn, Catherine! You are absolutely killing it. Excellent work. You're very talented and I'm envious of your current situation.
Actually, I'm quite happy you are doing what you're doing because it helps me do what I'm about to do.
I used to live full time in a 32ft diesel pusher traveling around the country on a personal photo project called Vanishing America. Then I got married, moved into her house and now we're breaking up and I'm going to live in a small travel trailer for a little while, save up and start building my own house in a rural area (sound familiar?).
All that to say, THANK YOU for this video. I'm loving all your videos, but this one is exactly what I need today. I'm on my way to the bank to talk about getting a loan to buy a TT about the same size as yours and the detail you went into in the tour video and (more importantly) what to look out for in this video has been incredibly helpful.
Again, THANK YOU for your hard work. And keep the videos coming so you can keep getting paid. :)
You are very handy with tools, do what you can yourself. Enjoy the snow.
Sounds like a very realistic assessment of the price-quality trade off.
Hi Catherine, you are the last person that comes to mind when the term 'negativity' is uttered. One suggestion regarding the table - use 3/4 inch plywood from a quality retailer. The only issue may be the perimeter edge. You could glue a rubber or vinyl strip (with several long clamps) but, if you inspect your current table, hopefully it has a channel routed in and the edging has a tab that helps hold it in. That may help you recreate the same type of surface with a much better grade of materials. Can't wait for your next excursion! Safe travels.
When I see the shots of the snow covered scenery that you can see from your window, I think you may not have a lot, but you are truly rich. What a wonderful life even with the hardships of living on the road. It is that peace and solitude I yearn for. Im glad you like that Brooklyn bed. We almost purchased from them recently. The beds seem to be really well made. I hope it serves you well for years to come. Peace and love from Washington State.
Lance truck campers are some of the best built RV's anywhere.
The most important items seem to be working fine for you. The new shower curtain definitely brightens up the area. We agree that no matter what you buy, you’ll have problems. We enjoyed the snow and Birdie enjoying the snow. Thanks again.😊
It's always good to fix it yourself if you can. Keep your travels safe.
Trailers, Rv's, boats, homes, cars always need something fixed or adjusted; it's life! I like your attitude, just fix the issues and improve the quality. While I appreciate the water, I'm hoping winter in Utah ends soon and we can all get out camping soon!
I think your plan to do the repairs yourself is a solid one. I don't see anything too complicated or technical. Have fun!
I have a 30 footer too big , its not moving it anymore . In a campsite seasonal area in the summer up north Quebec .. love the place .. winter I travel .. time get something to travel in the south .. love your camper
I'm thinking there will be snow into April in the Rocky Mountain states, with a protracted runoff due to the snowpack. If we get extraordinary heat too quickly, some of the roads that follow drainages could become dangerous. As a fisherman, I'm resigned to camping/ fishing lakes for awhile this year. Every RV that I've bought has had some basic issues to resolve, not surprised even a new rig will have some maintenance and upgrade needs to keep it up to personal standards. Seeing Birdie loving the snow was so cute; my Brittany Milo used to enjoy extra deep snow that he would posthole his way through and rut in it with his nose. His coloring made him difficult to see in the snow. I always had to go out & call him to come in, and I'd set up his bed by the fireplace where he would lay down and dry off. His feet would collect little snowballs that he'd work on as he warmed. Sweet wet dog memories.☺
Oh yeah. Lotta pressure. You gotta rise above it. You gotta harness in the good energy, block out the bad. Harness. Energy. Block. Bad. Feel the flow Feel it. It's circular. It's like a carousel. You pay the quarter, you get on the horse, it goes up and down, and AROUND. It's circular. Circle, with the music, the flow. All good things.
The snow is beautiful. 🕊
I love your truthfulness. ....one line you said cracked me up....I spend a lot of time on this mattress, and not just for sleeping....😊
The number one thing that you need to stay on top of is your roof , keep it clean and always look for leaks and get them sealed up immediately. You would not believe how much damage can be caused by one little leak .
Yes your point on… I have experienced the same kind of issues on my Jayco 26.5’. Which I traded in for a Jayco 19.5 (no slide) … not used it yet but ready
You are right, most trailers are just not made well these days. My dad owned a KIT Companion brand for many years, 1980-1999. He didn’t have a single problem. Before he departed this world, His last 2 trailers, off brands, had many small quality problems. Drove him crazy!
So have my friends trailer rigs the past few years.
These rigs and so many others have such poor quality. I broke an axel. Wasn’t doing anything unusual. Stay safe. All rigs have there advantages and disadvantages. As you have learned. Safe travels. 👍
Entropy is just a given in all things. I’ve had issues with my travel trailer, also. While I attempted to go through my dealer to have repairs made under warranty, the work they performed caused more issues than the original issues did. So, now, the only concern I have getting stock pieces and parts from the manufacturer, which refuses to ship parts to anyone other than dealers, even if it’s a piece/part for which I’m willing to pay. I find that terribly disingenuous and not at all customer friendly. In the end, I feel I’m pretty much on my own, so I’m taking the same approach you are. I fix things myself or live with the issue til I can’t or don’t want to anymore. I’ve managed to find a ton of hacks, as a result. Good on ya, for learning tool skills!!!
That view out your window of the snow was beautiful. We are out of the drought!!! I will continue to conserve water but it's so wonderful to know that our lakes will be full. The sad thing is that produce is going to be at a shortage and really expensive. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Monterey area has been completely flooded and the strawberry fields all around me are flooded. Buy frozen strawberries now if you love strawberries! I always enjoy making improvements to make my RV my own. Enjoy making your improvements.
"Wallpaper" - yup - that's the woodgrain finish in our OEM Aliner cabinets.
Great information Catherine! 👍 Thank you for giving us the year review on your rig! 🚐❄🌞💛 Hi Birdie! 🐕🧡 Have a super, safe and happy week! Happy Springtime Cat and family! 🌷🌼🦋🐇🐝💛
Thank you Karen! ❤️
I bought a decent used 2006 trailer. I do all of my own upgrades and repairs. For every maintenance task, I used better equipment and materials, plus do everything using the best practices of the craft.
Good video. Having had numerous different style RVs over the past 52 years, I often tell people if you want to become an electrician, plumber, carpenter, and HVAC specialist... own one.🙂
You go girl! You can make it your own. Have fun and do what’s best for your lifestyle. Keep posting. Your friend in Pennsylvania. Bob
Very typical issues for these trailers, sad to say that with the costs, but you are doing the correct thing by fixing them yourself. Better replacement parts and fixed by You. Great job. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Love your videos. Keep them coming. Be safe.
It's just like owning a house always something. Looks beautiful where you're at
Wow! Beautiful Snowy Day
Adding blackout curtains that are thermal back will help keep you cooler and warmer!!!
All trailers have some issues. We love our 2017 23rlsw Jayco trailer and it had minor issues within 6 months... but we still love it.
Be well and stay blessed.
I live stationary in a similar sized travel trailer(2022). I'm coming up on a year. Overall, it's been a pleasure. I've had several cosmetic issues that I've addressed, like trim and wallpaper. And one rather large issue, which was a water heater leak. The fittings and hoses were plastic, and I replaced them with larger metal hardware. Since replacing I haven't noticed anymore leaks so I'm satisfied. These trailers aren't built super well but I think part of the lifestyle is dealing with and being handy enough to fix those issues.
Travel trailer life span is about 10 years I hear. Their not built as a permanent home. But times have changed. As long as you're diligent
about your up keep, should last a life time. Come back to Colorado at the beginning of August for the wildflower season. Would be awesome to see you on a trail! Safe travels Catherine! 🌄🤙
There are also water-based reuseable "stained glass" and other window films. Goes on with water, cand be roved with water. Turn the bottom 18" into translucent glass or stained glass, even Tiffany patterns, for daytime privacy with light. Inexpensive, hundreds of choices on Amazon.
I asked a realtor and he said "No no! Don't you take those off, I thought they were stained glass!"
Thanks Catherine
Looks so peaceful and relaxing, thx Catherine for sharing
I really don't like to comment but here I go! I miss your truck camper but I totally appreciate the need for your new trailer for your full time travels. You seem to have made the best of things with a trailer and more recently the truck cap camper-best of both worlds! Any issues you are having with the trailer are totally mitigated with your winter pictures with the snow and your cozy little home. It is perfect. With regard to your repairs while annoying they are minor and you are making a generic mass produced product your home with every improvement that you make. I hope to get out to Utah later this year and will try to visit many of the areas that you have. Keep up your great times!
Agree, you can do it yourself and make it better! Thank you for sharing!
We’ve owned different RVs for years and understand they will all require repair and maintenance. Some folks complain about the manufacturers a lot regarding product quality, fit and finish. Considering most towables have to be made as light as possible, withstand bouncing, flexing, and all the other abuses of highway travel, most manufacturers do a pretty good job in my opinion. Congratulations on being willing to repair and upgrade your rig. Great video. Thanks!
Love the music you choose, relaxing. The one big change I recommend is replace the wheel bearings. The bearings are not good quality. Take it to a utility/commercial trailer dealer or repair shop. They can guide you on the proper bearing replacement. You don’t need getting stuck with the bearing freezing up or falling apart. Peace
Love your trailer! Perfect size to take traveling. 😊
Hi a quick thought on your table. I made full length supports on each side of the table, and cut a piece of PVC for the center support. That way the weight is spread over a very wide area. And the sides aren't carrying all the weight. We love your videos.
Thank you for this Catherine - I'm hoping to buy a trailer to do seasonal work in when I can retire. It seems all have these types of issues and your honesty and can-do attitude make it feel more do-able for me someday!
You’re not alone in the trailer repair department, Catherine. I’ve had my new travel trailer since May. It will soon be a year and I have had to repair so many little things. It isn’t even funny. I don’t think they make them out of very quality parts. One of my blinds just like yours broke this last week. I did the same thing you were going to do. I took the darn thing down and I have drapes, which I like much better anyway you can’t see through them. Thank you for sharing. I hope people don’t give you a hard time. You are certainly entitled to your own opinion.❤
Plastic knobs on stove. GENIUS....
Enjoy doing your upgrades. I'm constantly redoing my condo.... Nesting....
Joan
We bought a 26ft, 2016 Airstream brand new. The very same thing happened with the brackets under our dinette when converting to a bed using the table pieces. The pieces are sturdy enough but brackets were 1/2 inch too short on each side causing our guests to fall through. And our bathroom became unhinged from the skin on our first road trip. The craftsmanship just isn't what it once was. Your rig is quite cozy and I love the layout.
Love your positive attitude.
I have a Springdale 1750rd and here are some of my problems and fixes: Items on the counter can slide over and turn the sink faucet on. I added trim to prevent this. The refrigerator latch broke. I added a flip latch to hold it shut. Items under the bathroom sink can break the cheap sink drain. When the sun heats up the side, the door is hard to open - no solution yet. Previously, I had a 29 ft trailer and it was a monster to get gas or to park, and pulling that much weight wore out my RAM 1500 at 36,010 miles -- expired warranty.
Hello Catherine.
It's amazing how cheap these trailers are made.
That fabulous dinette area with the surround view makes it all worthwhile!😍😍 Love the new shower curtain!
Beautiful video/pics of snow ❤
That cabinetry, it will be easier if you take the doors off, remove the handles (hardware), and sand it off with an orbital sander. They don’t cost a lot if you don’t have one. Stain or paint to your likeness.
You could get matching real wood doors for the cabinets then finish them with matching stain. Replace the whole cabinet with a better quality finished cabinet. Thanks for the mattress tip.
Thank you for your update. My wife and I were really considering buying a camper several years ago. I am so glad we didn't get one. We looked at everything from pop-up a-frames to fairly expensive coach models. We (mostly me) would almost always see something that just wasn't quite right. I came to the conclusion that factories build them so fast and with the cheapest parts so they can get them to the dealers for them to hurry up and sell them to the inexperienced buyer at the highest profit possible. They get you to close on the deal saying they will fix anything found during an inspection. This is after they have your money and then they try to patch up deficiencies while holding your new RV hostage. Some of these RVs cost more than a nice house. It might be a good idea for a potential buyer to get an independent inspection before signing the papers. You noted that all RVs are going to have issues with something and I agree with you on that. It should not be up to the buyer to fix obvious problems that should have fixed at the factory.
Cat, thanks for your honesty.
Good start to a rehab! Keep it up!
Shower Curtain looks really good.
Loved this video,Very informative,Appreciated your transparency
Great honest chat. Love it! ❄️
Keep on Rockin Catherine
Thanks for the frank info on problems with the trailer.
Great video. You are doing so good. Thanks for sharing. Blessings
Good job (and attitude) !!!
I replaced the tiny brackets under my dining room table with 2x2 boards that went all the way around and spread the weight.
Thanks for sharing…….great info and you present it well.
Spring is in the air and I cant wait to get outdoors here in Canada. Enjoy watching your vids! Thanks for your hard work and very inviting scenes.
Cheers

We also had a padded piece pull loose from the end of a dinette bench seat. You mentioned that you plan to screw it back on, but lower. I recommend glue & screw. We re-attached ours with a thin smear of Gorilla wood glue on the back of the padded strip, and then rescrewed it on, 9-months ago. No issues since. (Btw: I agree with “David David” about having your wheel bearings inspected and repacked!) Safe travels - be well.
Good job, simple fix’s. Learned a lot from you, thank you 🙏
