The beta of this game is fascinating to me, if only we could somehow actually play the original beta, but I doubt Nintendo would ever release it
They won't. That's why the Nintendo Giga Leak is one of the best things to happen for video game preservation.
Someone should have snagged that E3 disc _Sonic 2_ style.
If the gigaleak is any indication, Nintendo definitely still has the assets (in addition, the WarioWare: Get It Together minigame has some of the beta furniture assets used, fully confirming that they still have the beta somewhere)
One day someone will make a full version of this beta
I dought they still even have the original beta to be honest.
My one complaint with this restoration is the music doesn't get slower with low health. That is something that was seen to happen in beta footage.
Other then that, it literally looks like a perfect recreation.
(Edit: Also there's no opening cinematic, but that would be very hard to recreate.)

Seeing the poltergusts Overheat function makes me wonder if the money was used to upgrade it instead of for endings.

I can see that overheat mechanic getting annoying very quickly...
But other than that, nice recreation.
Good thing that it was removed from the finalized version of the game. Otherwise the fight with Boolossus (The 3rd boss battle) would have been too hard!

Anyone else like this ghost design better then the final? It looks way creepier and haunting; it looks more transparent and uncanny, like it doesn’t belong.
Yeah and the alpha ghost looks even creeper then the beta
The ghosts also weren't color coded like in the final. Basically, in the beta/alpha, any ghost could be any color. That would have been so much cooler if they kept it.
This mod pretty much makes you gun it around the mansion to get as much done as possible due to the time limit.
yes. It reminds me of Dead Rising, but it would more realistic form Luigi´s POV to be done as quickly as possible. It would´ave been cool if it remained, just a longer timer to keep us stressed but also to allow us to enjoy

Beta is way more creepier than the original. Would have scared kids too much. The music is so unsettling.

Honestly, those ghosts look better in this version. They look more graphically impressive than the ones in the final game. I also really like the music this version has for when you clear a room. Way creepier than the final game.

I like how the ghosts in the beta weren't color coded like in the final. Any ghost being any color is a W mechanic in my opinion. Wish they didn't color code ghosts.
I think the beta version is a lot creepier than the official version its like lost video game creepy pasta material

As I saw in another video, can you imagine how difficult and frustrating those mechanics would have been in the final version? I would have loved the game as it looks here!!! Good mood but too bad!!!

Luigi mansion was originally set to be on like a timer system like Majoras mask but was scrapped before the original release.

The clock was solely used as a timer for the playable e3 demo, there is nothing that suggests it was more beyond that.
