- I take you on a secret local hiking trail called the California Coastal Trail. This 9-mile stretch through the city of Half Moon Bay hugs the Pacific Ocean coastline and takes you through a variety of different terrain, from rugged coastal wilderness, through neighborhoods, a commercial harbor, and a couple of beaches.
Part 1 starts at the Ritz Carlton and heads northward through the Wavecrest Open Preserve ending at Dunes Beach.

Nice
Thank you for the information
I live in the neighborhood near there and that Hike is like 11 miles
Yep, it's about 9 miles :) Since there are hikers of all levels, people should customize it to their needs. I've provided intersections along the way so you can start and stop wherever you want 👍
Why the music
Thanks for the tips. It was really helpful.
Great video would love to visit one day
Thank you for the information beauty ; good video
Thank You for the beautiful, informative video.
could not watch this because of the music
Sorry to hear! I've had several similar comments so will try to re-post a second set of my earlier videos without that soundtrack (when I have time 😂).
How do you get to the wildflowers/mustard flowers at Wavecrest if you start there? Is it the Coastal Trail or the Birding Trail?
Thanks for watching! The wildflower period is quite short (a few weeks) and not sure when it will happen again this year although I've noticed fruit blossoms are early. Last year from my post date it was end of April/beginning of May. When it's all in bloom, you can find them literally everywhere both on the Coastal Trail as well as the side trails. If you specifically want to see mustard flowers, they grow the thickest on the side trails between Wavecrest and the Smith Field Little League Park.
Is it free if you are planning to visit the pelican beach cuz me and my family just want to spend some hour there? Thankyou
Hello - there is a small (about 12? parking spaces) FREE lot above Pelican Point Beach but it fills up fast so you have to get there early to snag a space. You can go down to the Ritz Carlton and normally it does cost to pay in their garage but by city contract they have set aside about 20 or so FREE beach access spaces. You just need to mention to the gate guard that you are there for one of those spaces and they will give you a tag and instructions. There is a half mile walk from the Ritz Carlton to Pelican Point. Have fun!
The thing is, I like going, I hate coming back. Any suggestions? I guess I’m not a real hiker. I just want a scenery path.
Hi Sweater & pearls My cats - thanks for watching! This area has a whole network of trails so it's possible to do a big square (I'm assuming you don't want to just turn around and come back on the same path?). Inland it's a different kind of pretty -- mostly scrubby/trees and not so much the coastline. Just make sure you don't get lost as the inner trails cut back and forth and can be confusing! Good luck and definitely make the hike as the views are worth it!
Also, another option is to descend and come back by beach. HOWEVER, the beach is not contiguous and cuts off in sections where the ocean directly meets the cliffs so you'll need to plan this out carefully using Google Maps satellite view (and also take high/low tides into consideration). Good luck!
