  • Hello my guys and girls i have made a video for you of my own experience replacing cambelt, water pump, idler pulley and tension pulley on Peugeot 407 2.0 hdi. I have tried my absolute best to make a video witch would explain everything in a detail hence the length of the video is nearly 2 hours. I hope some of you will find this video use full. Also just to mention please tension your tention pulley anti clock wise only it should be an arrow drawing on a pulley showing which way it should be tensioned.

    More room than a 2010 308 2.0HDI very good video , with the handy tip of marking the belt with three marks for lining up pre tension..Now to do mine.

    It doesn’t matter which way the belt goes on I wouldn’t have counted the teeth. As long as the cam and flywheel is locked your good to go

    Brilliant thanks, I just changed the cambelt on my Citroen C5 with this engine. It was a little harder because the coolant tank is the exact same on the C5 but you cant move it easily because the BHI unit for the Hydractive suspension is in the way! Mostly it is identical to this though and my flywheel had a simple 8mm hole for the timing unlike your 407. Fun job, One trick I do to make fitting the new belt easier is to mark the teeth with paint like you do and fitting on the cam sprocket you can use 2 tie wraps to hold it while you work below to fit the belt to the crank pulley and the rest. Thanks for your videos and keep up the good work!

    Great videos. Have watched a few and your very detailed in your description. Just bought one and I'm getting air in the fuel and a leak on the inlet side of the filter. And mine is like yours with no details for the cambelt so this will be a perfect video for me to replace my belt. And also anyone who does thos should do the water pump at same time and external belts while you got them off

    Thanks for taking the time to do this. I need to do the crankshaft oil seal so will need to do the timing belt to get to it. The belt, pulleys and water pump are recent so just going to clean up and replace the belt if contaminated with oil. I appreciate your style of working in the back yard with basic tools, although I have ordered the flywheel locking tool!

    • @Mad4FrenchCars
      @Mad4FrenchCars  2 роки тому

      Thankyou for a good comment mate. I 100% support professional locking tool is good thing to have and use. I think if I would do a cambelt now on any car I would do crankshaft seal and camshaft seal just to be on a safe side as its good to have it done and forget about it. And also they are not that expensive and then just other crankshaft seal then you do clutch.

    • @davidmbell

      I’ve got the same engine in my Ford Kuga and have a leaking crankshaft oil seal too. How did the job go? Mine also had cambelt done only two years / 8,000 miles ago. Sadly.

    • @DA-oy7zp
      @DA-oy7zp 2 роки тому

      @@davidmbell Job went OK thanks. Used the old seal along with the sprocket to push the new one in - 1mm at a time with constant checking so as not to deform it or push it in too far! Did the camshaft seal too but very tricky - needs a variety of washers and round things. Flywheel locking tool essential for torquing up the crank pulley to avoid damage to the timing socket on the flywheel. Belt fairly easy to replace, tippex marks help a lot with this. Good luck.

      It's half a tooth however, the author has marked the belt and locked the timing. Therefore the geometry stays the same. This is evidenced by the video of the key way being central once the belt has been correctly tensioned. (if it wasn't the adjustment would not be right).

Check Tensioning pulley again to see where it sits an arrow should be in a middle of that U bit. If you remove a pins you should be able to turn the cranck back a bit to line the pin hole and if a camshaft hole is off then you can turn a camshaft with spanner a bit to line it up once a cranck pin is lined and cambelt off. It a sticky situation as you don't want to brake the rockers if you remove a cambelt and turn things individually. Should try to line cranck and then camshaft. • @Mad4FrenchCars
      @Mad4FrenchCars  2 роки тому +1

      Good question. If you have a cambelt slipped 1 tooth you should be able to stick 8mm lock pin to a flywheel and the camshaft pin hole would be off just by a millimeters so if you take of a cambelt and then put 17mm spanner on a camshaft bolt you should be able to turn camshaft by hand tiny bit until a 8mm hole perfectly lined up. Once lined up 8mm pin should be installed in to a locking hole. Then installing a new cambelt you would have to make sure cambelt pull is tensioned properly and a floating crank pulley sits right in a middle. I am sorry if that doesn't make it clear Its not easy to explain it without showing it

      It does make sens to me .
      I did comment on your video because so far I see there is an explination for every detail so that make it easy for people to understand procedures .
      For example in my case I got a 2005 307 XSI 2.0 HDI 136bhp RHR ,I had problem with starting or it just stop by itself while driving, I had checked and change fuel filter and fuel lines,new battery , alternator and starter in good condition.
      No problem with BSI as well .
      I have no lights showing on dashboard.
      So there is the point where I was getting confused and I asked some friends mechanichs ,they told me that the cam sensor or crank sensor are not reading well, I changed sensors ,the same story.
      So I arrived at the conclusiton that timing is not lined up properly (does have symptoms of slipped tooth) but sensors wont be able to give a fault or check engine will not show in this case .
      So I decided to change the timing rather than line it up as car has over 106k miles and I have no records that timing was ever changed. The problem now its that I dont have any markings for the previous position on the belt so I could find out from the tensioner ,and belt tension that was slipped so its the first case where I dont have any refference of belt position.
      Thank you

      Hello the cambelt is good for anything between 60k - 100k miles or 10years for original cambelt and 4-6years for after market cambelt as even original cambelt after 10years starts to crack. Also it depends who replaced it also a brand of a cambelt. Normally i replace every 100k miles but i do 100k miles in around 18 months.

      Even with locking pegs some people still manage to put a cambelt in a way that they miss one tooth becouse of flowting pulley on a crankshaft in place there is still a tiny play where you can miss a tooth then doing a cambelt up. Don't get me wrong I don't really know how but there is a people I know who have managed it. So it kind of give a extra safety option to mark the belts and teeth up. Some people think they done it all right but they actually missed a tooth and it will run just not as good and belt is not gonna last as long. And if the belt goes before its time then rockers will all snap in half in a best case scenario and then it will become head cover off job.

      Hello my friend. Fault P1351 is a pre/post heating relay circuit. Which basicly means your glow plugs or glow plug relay is gone. In UK 90% of 407s have that fault but it doesn't really affect anyone as there is no real winter here so no preheating needed. But in a cold country it would cause a problem with starting. To get rid of your fault you need to replace glow plugs and if that doesn't fix a problem then need to replace a little glow plug loom too.
