- The Withlacoochee state trail. In 1800 a flurry of railroad construction happened in West Florida that connected mining communities. By the 1900s, the route became a tourist attraction, and many travelers found themselves exploring trails just like these. At that point, it got known as the ACL, The Atlantic Coast Line.
The Withlacoochee State trail sits on this railroad bike path stretching between Citrus Springs and Dade City. The first thing to mention is it is about 60 minutes drive from Orlando, but we wouldn’t be talking about it if it wasn’t worth your time traveling there.
The route is 44.1 miles long and is just incredible. You will be passing some wonderful sights, and the riding is just excellent. We advise you to start at Dade City, being the closest to Orlando. The best way to enjoy this route is to break it down into three sections.

Withlacooche state trail is one of my favorite long bike trails. Nice video. 👍
Really enjoyed this one 👍
There are some great trails in the Ocala area that this trail connects to including the Cross Florida greenway.
Thanks for the tip. Road this over the weekend and really enjoyed. Far more interest than the Van Fleet Trail and only about 20 minutes further by car.
thanks for another video, enjoyed the ride
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. I always enjoy these videos.😎
Thanks!!
Thank you!
Cool video thanks 👌👌🌴🌴❤🚲
Mid May is hot already but just wait 2 months!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 very good info and amazing production
Thx!
Enjoyed the video. My wife and I have been on this trail many times. It looks like you started in Dade City, FL. I live about sixteen miles from Donellon, FL and you can start there as well. Looking forward to your next video.
Nice video and music. In Floral City you missed the Shamrock, great Irish pub with burgers, salads... right next to Harley store. There are a pub, country kitchen, and pizza restaurant on way from Floral City to Inverness (distance is about 6 miles from Floral City to Downtown Inverness). Downtown Inverness has several restaurants, some coffee shops, and pubs. These are a 30 second ride from where you ate donuts.
Thanks for the feedback. Wasn’t very familiar with Inverness, I might need to do this video again and share the surroundings.
I live in Pasco County, I'll have to check this out.
It's with-la-coo-chee.
And In-ver-ness.
Thanks ☺️

Good video.
Thanks 👊
You completely left out the Ridge Manor trailhead. Has restrooms with flushing toilets and water to fill bottles. Also has a covered pavilion in the shade. This is at 6 miles just after the bridge over Hwy 50. This is also the best trailhead to use coming from Orlando. Better than starting at the beginning on Hwy 301.Straight shot out Hwy 50 to the trailhead.
I think I’ll have to redo this video and show a little more of the trail. Thanks for the insight
Great video. Thanks for doing it. If you still remember, are you able to provide exact locations of water refill stations?
What I can remember there is water at Inverness and Citrus springs. There might be some other stops but those are the ones I can remember for sure. Have find out there!
In addition to Inverness and Citrus Springs, you can get filtered water at Floral City (23 mile marker). There is also water and restrooms at Hernando (35 mile marker). Also, Towson State park (around the 16 mile marker) has facilities.
Great Video. How do you find bike trails. I live in NE Florida. Have you tried Baldwin Trail?
I look in many different places, but one tool that helps A lot is strava maps. Never ridden the Baldwin trail but maybe I should some day
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🚴🚴🚴🚴
You missed the best coffee place of Inverness. The Cattle Dog Coffee Roaster. I half a mile from red train wagon.
Oh man, I will have to do this video all over again!!!
70 miles… good grief. That’s almost one day of the MS150 🤪
Thanks for this video. Is this trail pretty well traveled on the weekend? I'm curious about your thought about safety for solo rider.
This trail is a little desolate but I didn’t feel unsafe. Maybe the West Orange Trail in Winter Garden would be a better option if you are more comfortable riding in a more populated region.
@@TheRideXperience thanks...I definitely have West Orange on my list...in fact, looking for info on that one is how I found your channel!
Did you ever end up riding the trail? How did you feel re: safety as a solo rider?
How long was this ride?
I will have to double check my Strava, but around 3 hours
too bad , you did not do any research for your vid, so sad you did not magically find the restrooms, ect. so sad.
